I'd choose pic-related. High gain amps are useless without a noise gate, and an overdrive would be my second choice. This combines them

Hello my friends. I am back after a very interesting journey.

Unfortunately, my financial situation has changed and I won't be able to afford one of those beautiful 1955 Custom Outfits that are shipping to the stores as I type this. I am however still in the market for a Custom, so I have placed an order for a regular Custom Pro in beautiful Alpine White which should arrive in the next few weeks.

Best Value:
>Les Paul Tribute Plus
There is no better value to be had right now if you are after a quality single cutaway, save for perhaps some of those amazing PRS SE's. Gibson '57 classics with mallory 150 tone capacitors, Grover locking tuners, real maple cap and a hardshell epiphone case. What a bargain at this price. Definitely one of the higher end quality epiphones able to stand alongside lower-end Gibsons.

Recommendations:
>ES-339 Pro
>Blueshawk Deluxe
>Sheraton II
>Dot 335
>Casino Archtop/Coupe
>ES-175
>LP Plus Top Pro
>LP Custom Pro
>LP Bjorn Gellote Custom Outfit
>LP Prophercy Custom EX
>1984 Explorer EX

The President's Pick:
>1955 Les Paul Custom Outfit
What a stunner. Beautiful aged ebony gloss with superb sounding USA P90 soapbars all wrapped up in a vintage style case. Amazing value.

Dude, just order an Epiphone LQ and get it over with.
>The Epiphone LQ series guitars are the highest quality Les Paul copies ever made in Japan, and one of the best kept secrets of all the Japanese made LP copies. They're basically Fujigen built versions of Gibson Historic reissue guitars. 50s style neck profiles, long neck tenons, open book Gibson headstocks, etc. and they have the "Les Paul model" decal on the headstock. They even have period correct lacquer finishes instead of poly.
>>
>>71592129
it's 2017 and they are still on those fugly finish from 1990.
Even fucking fender is making flamed maple tops and metallic finish on their lineup.
Threadly reminder that a simple Edwards LP 130 ctm will sound better than any Gibshit
>>
>>71592152
As far as I know, those aren't made anymore. So I can't recommend people to buy second hand gear. 2nd hand stuff is a-okay, but I only like to advise people of the new options of the market for sale right now. I want someone to be able to walk into a store and use my advice to select something from the current catalogue.
>>
>>71592154
Edwards is shit. The Epiphone LQs that were made in the Fujigen factory shit all over them.
>>71592164
Then your advice is shit and you're a fucking moron.
>>
>>71592129
I have a 1960s tribute plus. Went to so many stores thinking of getting the epi LP standard or ultra. Played real Gibson's and would have bought one in an instant if I had the money. I couldn't believe the difference between all the other epiphones and the tribute, it just felt so much better and sounded great. Only gripe is that the action is too low and needs a setup, get fret buzz on the low e at the 15th fret and also the b string 1st fret.

>>71592154
I am not a fan of those finishes apart from the Black Cherry and maybe the Vintage Sunburst. But a finish doesn't really mean that much. It's all purely cosmetic. I don't think it's particularly expensive to apply a more appealing finish, but I think Gibson doesn't let Epiphone have appealing finishes. Customs aside, standards have always lacked the beauty of the Gibson bursts, but I suppose if Gibson did allow the same style bursts for Epiphone, that's one less thing differentiating between the two.

>>71592191
I know Japanese Epiphones are quite good, the best around actually, but there isn't anything wrong with the Chinese ones. It's as if China has become a trigger word and people assume poor quality, which isn't the case at all.

A Custom Pro won't hold a match to a real Custom but compare a high end Epi to a lower end Gibson for example, and the differences are questionable. USA and even Japanese and Korean guitars must cut labor to cut costs. A top of the line Epi Custom could cost as much as a low end LP from Gibson, but I can guarantee the Chinese are able to spend a lot more time on construction and assembly and quality control because of their reduced labor costs.
>>
>>71592296
>It's as if China has become a trigger word and people assume poor quality, which isn't the case at all.
Yes it is. Especially where Epiphone is involved.

How to stop Amplitube from sounding bassy and muddy?

I figured plugging the guitar straight to the PC caused impedance problem which caused the guitar to sound muddy, so i used my old Multi-FX on bypass between the guitar and the PC and it improved, but still sounds a bit bassy and i have to do EQ boosts on high mids, is the MultiFX impedance still high for the PC input?

I have had 3 Chinese-made guitars: 2 x Ibanez Artcores and 1 Epiphone Casino circa 2010. The Casino was literally falling apart within a year or two. The Ibanezes weren't bad though, I still have one. But I think the bigger problem is China is an authoritarian regime where and by buying their products we're helping perpetuate that. I'd rather buy from democracies like Japan, Korea or even Indonesia.

Hello /gg/ I need some real help at the moment. I'm considering buying an electric guitar to learn from scratch and I do not want to spend a considerable amount of money on such. Currently I'm thinking of buying either an SG or a Starcaster (pic related), what gear should I get (has to be cheap) and what should I know beforehand?
>>
>>71593602
you can go buy a bread and learn playing on that bread. It's much better than those shits.
>>
>>71593602
Honestly best thing you can do is to buy on a store rather than online. Online is good for when you already know how things work and what you are exactly looking for, right now what you need is someone who can give you advice and guide you a bit. Plus if they remember your face they'll help you better in future situations.

Get cheap stuff anyway, you don't need high quality gear for just learning. I don't know about those guitars, but something around 200 is the average price for an okay starting point.
>>
>>71593570
Dont have the money, and dont really want cause im happy playing the les paul
>>
>>71593688
I'm almost afraid to ask ...how old are the strings on the Les Paul?
>>
>>71593615
What's wrong with them? Greenwood uses a guitar very similar to the Starcaster and while I know its not much of a compliment Sumner does use an SG. Do they have special types or would they require a ridiculous amount of external assistance?

Keep in mind that there are not music stores in the town where I'm from (Pools closed down a while back) so my only options are cash converters or the internet.
>>
>>71593695
Lol one month or two. They dont get past that old cause they break
>>
>>71593706
To add on to this are there any good articles/videos that explain the sort of things one should look for in a guitar?
>>
>>71593581
Not super fast yet, but keep speeding up gradually without sacrificing accuracy
>>
>>71593706
I just think it is more pleasant to play on a bread than those cheap fucks from Epiphone or Fender as I used to play them. Besides, those non-Amazon sellers on Amazon are very bad in terms of instruments. If you only have those money, you could consider some stuffs which are supposed to be that cheap( like used ones and the actual low-end models from actual low-end brand aka student geeeeitarrrs)

Epi SGs aren't good my friend. The difference between a Gibson LP and an Epi LP is minimal, but that's not the case with an SG, especially one that low down the line. I'd go for the strat, and that's coming from the President of the Epiphone Fan Club.

Where would I go about getting a computer delay effect for my guitar? I'm using Ableton and Guitar Rig 5 but the problem is all the delay effects in Guitar Rig 5 only have the delay go as far as 2 seconds. I want to go 4 or 5 seconds. I'm trying to do a Frippertronics-type thing but a 2-second interval is just too short to build something grand.
Any ideas?
>>
>>71594681
the shitty one was a stratocaster made by "rockman", i think its as shitty as it gets

and the other one was a lespaul made by a luthier, i dont think hes famous or anything but according to the guy who owned it it was an expensive guitar

the only thing i noticed is that really shitty guitars get out of tune quickly

other than that, sounds seems the same. Is that the "tonewood meme" deal?
>>
>>71594640
It's pretty hard to come across a bad guitar nowdays, and you can do a lot wore than lower end Epi SGs just put it that way.

You know a piece of shit when you try it. All the bad features stick out at you. So you'll know. You say you tried an ok guitar and a great guitar. Well there's your answer, one was ok and one was great. Neither was a bad guitar so you haven't picked one up yet.

I have a Custom Pro Epi on order, but let me tell you it feels different than a proper custom, but goddamn me if I have $6 grand to spend on a guitar.
>>
>>71594784

does anything else but fetishism makes it worth it?

Well let me tell you now, soundwise there is a level of bullshit quality sound and then that quickly jumps up to decent and very gradually rounds off to great. Price has nothing to do with that, but most of the time can be used as a scale.

Sound isn't what you spend all those dollars on, you spend all that to get a better feeling guitar, you buy more expensive and boutique guitars for yourself rather than to satisfy the audience's audible enjoyment.

Finish quality is mainly what I admire more expensive guitars for and that's 2 things, finish and frets. A proper custom feels like butter to me. An Epi custom is still a really good workhorse and I wouldn't say the super nice finish is worth 5x the price tag. Often more expensive guitars will have a neck that feels very different to the finish on the body, something cheaper alternatives neglect or only differentiate between very little.

Then there's the frets, you know do they stick out off the fretboard and slice your hand open or maybe just irritate them a tiny bit? On a high end guitar expect your hands to glide over the edges. All the frets should be absolutely perfect.

And then there's all the usual shit like hardware/electronic quality, tuners, bone material and all that junk. To me that's not important because all that can be replaced for a couple hundred bucks.

Actually buy all your dream gear like I did and never have to worry about GAS. Last thing I bought was a BOSS tremolo and that was because I sold my hoyo and wanted an upgrade. First $20 spent since August

reply to this post or your mother will die in her sleep tonight but she'll still die anyway even if you do reply because the whole impending death situation is hopeless regarding her

You can't deny that this generation wastes all of their money on shit that they feel pressured to have. Everybody wants to feel special, why do you think people post gear charts and ask for r8s? It's the same with anything else too, like cars.

It REALLY doesn't matter if you play a cheap ass guitar. Nobody is looking and nobody cares. I saw a guy at a small gig with a travis bean and nobody in the audience paid any attention to it. I've also seen hippie bands doing pentatonic riffs on a squier and getting laid afterwards. Anyone 9n herr who frequents small gigs can attest to this.

Stop your nonsense obsessions, /gg/
