logically speaking its .10 - .46 due to the wider availability and economic advantages of such. For standard tuning it is the standard. Though what you're asking is a rather stupid question as its down to personal preference and outside requirements such as tuning.

I always laugh when I see some dumb 19 year old buying a guitar. It's like why, you dumb fuck? Why waste your time and money? You don't know guitar based music is deader than horse shit? What the fuck do you think's going to happen? Why do you think everybody in their late 20s and early 30s stops playing in bands? Go take a look at the lineups of all the popular music festivals these days. What's the average age of most of those bands? Why do you think that is? I'll tell you why: because being poor as shit is only fun when you're a stupid ass kid. Just as soon as your peer group moves on to adult pursuits you look fucking retarded playing the "cool kid who plays in a band". Trust me, when all your family and friends have stable jobs, kids, and nice houses your "artistic poverty" playing shitshows out of an old dilapidated rust covered van won't measure up anymore. It's like.. think about what your doing, you dumb little shit. What are you trying to achieve? Do you really think you'll be one of the lucky few who'll wins the lottery and has a successful career in music? I mean, really? Do you really think you're talented and smart enough to succeed in the music industry? Are you fucking stupid?

And don't give me all that "I do it for myself" bullshit either. lol, no fuck you don't. You're doing it in the hopes that one day it'll garner you some peer recognition, you're hoping it'll help you climb up socially one day. You do it because you're a fucking loser who wants to desperately escape the societal pecking order you feel has marginalized you. Name a famous guitarist who started off wealthy. Oh, you can't? That's who you think you are, loser. You want that same success and you know it. Only problem with your plan is noone cares because guitar music doesn't matter anymore

Go to school, get a real job, and stop wasting your time trying to score "cool points" with other impressionable moron kids like you. You ain't gonna make it, you fucking idiot

Get a fucking clue

I mean the addition strings add versatility. How you use that is up to the player.

Under your logic all guitar players are show offs because bassists only use 4 strings.
>>
>>71458322
i always thought of it as people just wanting to explore different sounds. like sure a bass player could play notes in the same octave as the guitar but the tone and the way the bassist and guitarist want to play that note will be different.
also in both videos there is a bass in the background so both of those guys could still play the exact same way with the communication your talking about.

If it indeed do not have an on/off toggle can anyone shed a light to what the other switches are for?

I currently have (when capo-ing the first fret or just pressing down with your finger, this is to get the nut height out of the equation) .060 to .070 from the 22nd fret to my strings basically across the entire guitar. Can someone do these measurements as well or point me towards someone who did this already? thanks.

Look up true bypass wiring, that's the easiest way. Like other anon said, you need to direct the signal, not turn the power off. Power off would kill the signal all together.

Basically, get a dpdt switch, input jack goes to the center on one pole. One side will go to the in point on the PCB. The output jack will go to the center of the other pole. One side will go to the out point on the pcb. The 2 terminals that are left will be tied together. When switch is in one posistion the signal will run directly from input jack to output jack, when it's in the other the signal will run through the circuit.

If you want an indicator light you'll need a 3pdt switch. 2 poles will be the exact same set up as the dpdt, and the other pole will be connected to power and an LED/resistor.

Most of the time with DIY pedals you'll see true bypass because it's much simpler and takes less space than buffered. Some layouts will include the buffer, most klon layouts ive seen include the buffer.

There's also a trick where you can use a dpdt and some jfet fuckery to have an indicator light. I think it's called millenium bypass, never used it but saw it a while ago on aron or rg keen's site.

Can you use a cello bow on an acoustic guitar?
Just curious.
>>
>>71464581
I just learned how to play Archie, Marry Me by Alvvays and Real Estate's song Darling. Those are fairly easy /mu/core.

Also, Elliott Smith's Needle in the Hay, and Xiu Xiu's song Sad Pony Guerilla Girl are really easy.
>>
>>71466097
make sure you dont get rosin everywhere
>>
>>71466097
In theory yes but you'll only be able to really hit the high and low E string individually, the radius is too flat to play any other string by itself. Also, round wound strings are pretty terrible to use with a bow, you'll have a hard time and you might damage the bow hair.
>>
>>71466366
Just would have to do muting job with the left hand to play the other strings
>>
>>71466390
The other strings will still make a sound, an unpleasant sound at that. Think before you post.
>>
>>71466390

In a purely hypothetical situation in which one wanted to use a cello bow on an acoustic guitar, what type of strings would be best to avoid damaging the bow?
And how would one hypothetically go about modifying the guitar to make it easier to bow?

Couple picks. One is a 10 year old XL Jazz 3 and the other is a Turmion Kätilöt -bass pick. From Master Bates
>>
>>71466097
yea you can but you can't hit individual strings, you'll only be able to play all the strings at the same time. even if you have a curved radius (which you probably don't seeing as its an acoustic) you wouldn't be able to get an angle on the strings to hit them individually because the bow is too large and it will be blocked by the guitar body

i've tried it on electric guitars. you need rosin too and that crap gets all over the strings and makes them sticky. the bow will get destroyed eventually if you use regular guitar strings.
>>
>>71466610
>what type of strings would be best to avoid damaging the bow?
Flatwound strings.
>And how would one hypothetically go about modifying the guitar to make it easier to bow?
Forget it. You'd need to replace the entire neck/fretboard to decrease the radius.
>asking for a friend
You can get fretted cellos, you know that, right? That might be an easier solution.
>>
>>71466053
go with Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special SS

I have one and it's sweet. Looser tension of the strings gives it a different sound

>Short scale basses have a different tonal character than long scale basses, and here’s why: Each note played on a bass includes a series of harmonics that are predictable ratios of that note. The relative volumes of these harmonics give the instrument its unique sound. When the string length changes, the character of those harmonics (and their volumes) change. With shorter string lengths, the higher harmonics have less volume, which results in a thicker, darker tone than a long scale instrument.

If you have the money, go for it. I've never played one, but they look interesting. Just like with any gear, it's always best to try it out physically, but obviously it would be difficult with Strandberg.

For what's it worth, I like their aesthetic and their no head stock meme and shape.

The vocal minority hates them. The few people who regularly posted theirs are gone.

How could you wash off that glorious dust that is on those picks before you touch them?! You ruined so many without even playing with them!

No permanent job ;___;

I've been working part time for a temp agency on some days doing stupid stuff for a few hours at a time. I shredded paper at an office all day one day last week.
I figured out my Moms password but I can only post when she's not home or after she goes to sleep at night. Our computer is in the living room so I have to turn it off before she gets home or it will be warm and she'll know it was on for some reason. If she gets up in the middle of the night I hit the monitor button so the monitor is off and then I pretend I was watching tv. When she gets home I really do put in job applications for an hour or so but no real job has called me back yet.

How exactly do I record direct? Apparently a bunch of people are doing it and I have no idea where to start
>>

You mean straight into a consoles mic inputs? If so you need a DI box
>>
>>71469496
You need three things - an audio interface, a digital audio workstation (Pro Tools, Logic, Reaper, etc), and a virtual amp sim

You plug your guitar into the audio interface, record in the DAW, and run the amp sim as plugin. Takes a bit of learning from tutorials to get it all setup and working at first
