Looking to restring my first electric guitar

It's an ibanez gax 30 if that makes a difference.

What strings should I get? Mainly looking to play blues and rock/metal.
>>
>>71152395
If you break strings a lot, get 10s or 11s. If you bend them a lot and don't want to strain your fingers, get 9s. Play those for a while until you can figure out if you want to go up or down in gauge on any string. Personally, I like having light (but not too light) strings up top for bending (10-13-17) and relatively heavy strings in the bottom so chugga-chugga sounds nicer and I can hit chords harder.
No idea about material (other than don't use nylon on an electric, duh) and different winding techniques.
>>
>>71152459
Thanks mate.
I haven't broken a string yet I'm just a beginner but the strings on the guitar were a few years old when I got it.

Just found me a pair of free 12 string acoustics and am in the process of cleaning and polishing them up.

One is a Legend brand and the other is unmarked. I don't think they're anything special because the machine heads are pretty basic. I reckon they're about 10-15 years old, maybe more.

Ausfags. When do you think shops will start stocking these bad boys?
>>
>>71152516
Yes, in general it lists the thickness of the highest string and the lowest string. Those are a good start. Choose one (doesn't really matter which) and stick to it for a while.
I suggest trying to get like packs of 3 or 10 sets on ebay, that comes out cheaper than buying individual ones. If you notice them going out of tune a lot, intonation going bad (i.e. when you play a flageolet tone at the 12th fret, the note is sharp or flat compared to properly fretting it there) or them sounding like shit, change them.
Have fun!

Scales

E Pro by Beck is E minor for example. The first note is E. Doesn't have to start with the first note of the scale though.

Pentatonic you have less notes that give your a more rock sound. I like to make riffs with the major or minor scale.

Mess around with a few notes and make a repetitive phrase that sounds good to you. Maybe add a variation on the third or fourth bar.

I've always been against Les Pauls. Theyve always semed like the stock standard, vanilla, cheeseburger and french fries way of doing things.

But I realized I had this mindset and had never even tried one. So the other week, I went to the big city to one of those big guitar stores that have like couple thousand dollar LPs just sitting out on the floor. Here we are lucky to see $500 BC Rich's hanging on the wall. I do all my shopping online for that reason.

Anyway,. I tried this thing. And then a real Gibson. And then another and another.

I can't believe it but it's completely changed my perspective. I was able to try a bunch of different guitars as well and I couldn't find one that came close to suiting me. I bought this one. I just couldn't afforda real gibson, but damn this thing is amazing.

I was an ESP man, and I still am, but now just love LPs too.
>>
>>71154090
Nothing beats a Les Paul for those creamy melancholic lead tones. Body is too small for me though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTVnCyDoQlQ
>>
>>71154090
Epiphone has really stepped their game up. The biggest issue they tend to have is rough but still playable fretwork. I had a mid 2000s g400 and i couldnt intonate the high e, it wouldnt stay in tune, sounded pretty meh. I tried a 2016 g400 and it blew my mind, i bought it. It cost me $80 less than the 2006 or 7 one did.

Im honestly very surprised. Thinking about putting some gibson dirty fingers in and some gibson tuners, just cause i like tinkering, its fine now.

An Ibanez caught my eye, mostly due to it's finish but I read a few reviews and people seem quite pleased with it, it's about 350 euros so well within my budget, but fi anyone knows of an alternative I'd be grateful
anyone have experience with middle of the road priced Ibanez guitars? All I have now is a copy of an SG I got with my starter pack and while it's great for the amount I paid for it, I feel like I need a better guitar with more features

I am tossing up between an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro and the Gibson Tribute coming out this year.

The Epi is only about $900 but the Gibson is $1470. I've always liked the white custom but the real Gibson version is like $6k. The new tribute in honeyburst looks pretty sweet. Not sure if it's really worth another $600 pretty much.

Any thoughts or experiences of either instrument? Cheers.

Who makes quality, custom hardshell cases nowadays? I have a Kelly and the SKB plastic case it was shipped with is flimsy as fuck, the shape is pants on heads retarded and the actual mold inside the case is made to fit three different guitars so mine isn't perfectly still inside.
Would it be worth it to track down an actual Jackson/Charvel rectangular case? Were they any more solid than those plastic pieces of shit?

They're trying to justify owning a smelly animal. I can't understand it. If i want a dog, I'll just wake up an hour before i need to and shit in my yard once a day and pick it up, piss on the floor at least once a month, wreck a piece of furniture a year, and every so often I'll destroy one thing i really, really like. I won't sweep or vacuum my floors, ever, to simulate what it looks like at a dog owner's house that cleans 5x a day. I won't shower more than once a week to simulate the smell of a dog owner, and I'll sit bare ass on everything fabric in my house. And I'll still save $20 a month on dog food.

Really quite good. At super high levels of attenuation (like bringing a cranked 50W amp to quieter than the TV levels) you lose some high end, but to some degree that can be EQ'd out.

What they're really good for is allowing you to crank a 30W+ amp and get the volume to a somewhat reasonable level where you're still moving some air, but not leveling your house. I can get some nice power amp distortion and power section sag from my Traynor at a pretty decent volume where I don't need to wear earplugs.

All in all they're a good tool to have, and paired with a master volume, you can totally use a big loud amp in an apartment, just don't expect it to sound like it does at rehearsal. It'll sound good and be usable, though, for sure

If a pedal near the beginning of my chain has stereo output do I connect that to the next pedal in the chain with a stereo in? Or will that ignore the effects in between?
Sorry for the dumb question, I would try it if I were home
>>
>>71158428
Doom LARP still gets me lol. I just want actual people to jam with so that it doesn't need to be LARPing

A related question for you doom/stoner rock interested anons: Does it seem as though doom and stoner rock are almost disgustingly hip at the moment? I am seeing a lot of (dare I say it?) hipster looking folk fawning over various doom-y type bands at the moment, acting as though this is some sort of new amazing metal subgenre that they're underground enough to have stumbled upon. Whereas when I got into that kinda stuff like a decade ago no one gave a shit but regular ol' metalhead type people, no one was into it because it was fashionable. Not that there's a problem I guess, as it's good music and all. No problem except for cool old gear that no one wanted a few years back now being hot ticket shit, like old Sovtek/Traynor/non-Model T Sunn/ heads, weird 70's/80's HH guitars like Al-necked Kramers, etc.

Anyway, it seems like just in the last year or two it's really gotten big.
>>
>>71158506
Most stereo pedals are designed to work in mono if only one input or output (usually the left) is connected
>>
>>71158579
Sorry, I'm trying to run them in stereo, but one at the beginning and the very end of the chain have stereo in/out. Is it okay to connect one to the other, or will that bypass all the other effects?
>>
>>71158625
ok, tell me about your rig, what's the pedal and do you have a stereo power amp? if you don't have a stereo power amp then you're never going to get stereo no matter how you connect it up
>>
>>71158652
run everything in mono until the last pedal and that will run in stereo. you can't run a stereo pedal into a mono pedal and expect to get stereo out halfway down the chain of pedals

EHX Soul Food to bring out a more cleaned up clarity to that fuzzy sound from the Swollen Pickle, i don't know if would boost your mids though the Soul Food is really high treble sound to it, so a good EQ pedal should be on the top of your list to dial in any tone your heart can desire

I'm not gonna lie, I love baroque but your tune sounds like lenny kravitz playing a prince cover of a Bach piece.

My advice to you is to play very slowly and articulate your notes for practice. Let your bass ring for longer. Only play fast runs if you can actually play fast runs. Do you know what vibrato is ?

The burst is a lot more subtle in real life I should say, less coffee more caramel.

US strat in the £1000-£1200 range is an excellent guitar

higher than that is just wanky elitism

that much money for a guitar that will last you decades is nothing really

It looks good

I'm telling you, you definitely should be spending more.

Thanks, it's a real treat. Bought it for dirt cheap at this small music store, some guy owed them money and he paid them back with this.

I paid £375 in 1987

Something better

I think the new american professional series is pretty awesome, much better than everything else at that price point I tried
I own an older mexican and I still think it's one of the bertter strats I played no matter the price, but I played a couple of these american pros at a store recently and holy shit, at least for my hands they feel extremely nice, all the changes in the hardware, neck and whatnot are on point and it the pickups are damn great. I really consider getting one because I have the feeling they tried to overcome all the vintage relic authentic whatever bullshit and made a proper and refined modern guitar with that series for once

This thread is pure autism
>we can't have a picture from an anime in a thread about guitar
>we can't have a picture of a dog because a dog is not a guitar
>we can't have a picture of a computer being used to record guitar because it is not a guitar
>we can't have a picture of a guy who plays guitar because he is not a guitar
You faggots are so funny, if you had your strict guidelines followed to the letter then people could only post pictures of guitars and post audio of guitars. Commenting on anything wouldn't be allowed because a comment is not a guitar.
>>
posting anime is off topic shitposting, posting dogs is fine for like one fucking time if it's guitar related, you can post a computer being used to record a guitar because it's related ,and you can post a picture of a guy playing a guitar

reminder that avatarfagging is against the rules
