maybe a ring mod with a lot of distortion and a really fast LFP somewhere? Eric Barbour posts a lot of schematics online using odd tubes like a sheet beam tube that uses control voltages to deflect the signal between two anodes in the same tube, maybe search for those. I know a lot of people have copied his designs for shits and giggles, get in contact with some people who've made his pedals and beg for advice.

I agree fully, we normally don't even play any kind of shows, it's usually just in our shitty studio alone where most of our music gets played

I genuinely have no problem with this though. I enjoy making music with my best friend and I think I can speak for him and say he does as well. It's just fun and I feel like doing much more than that i.e touring and amassing any kind of a following would only dampen my enjoyment for it. and I won't even claim that we make music that is innovative or incredibly good, we think it sounds cool and I think that's good enough

more strings=more tone
the louder you play, the better others can hear you and understand the nuances of your art
you may not be good now, but if you give up you'll never be good
you don't necessarily need to buy the best equipment right off the bat, its something you should work towards
you can use pedals when you're learning but don't rely on them to sound good
you should have fun but also have a strong work ethic to make sure you're progressing

Here it is, kids: 7, 8, and 9 string guitars are the result of kids playing in their bedrooms for years and years all alone. The poor kids in these videos ( https://youtube.com/watch?v=RyqW4WkyX6Y )( https://youtube.com/watch?v=wd065h2kH_E ) overly technical "playing" is unfortunately just a compensation for the lack of a bass player. It's sad because the point of music is communication and the most enjoyable form of this communication is a concert (where people gather to share the musical experience). The only people who'd be interested in this kind of guitar wankery are other isolated bedroom-stuck 7, 8, and 9 string guitar troglodytes, so it's YouTube and the bedroom again, and MOM WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY HOT POCKETS?!?

Seriously though, it's a symptom of extreme social detachment, and goes right along with a lot of other unhealthy things like playing video games as an adult, masturbating to internet porn, etc. You'll also notice all these bedroom "pastimes" require a good bit of rapid hand/finger movement.

Playing music shouldn't be the equivalent of mashing buttons on a video game controller or furiously jacking your tiny dick, which is obviously what 7, 8 and 9 string guitar players believe.

>>
>>70848825
I think I just got unJUSTed on ERGs.
>>
>>70848897
In that case you need to match the amp's speaker impedance selector to the speaker load. It's not criotical in transistor amps but tube amps need to have the speaker connected to the right tap on the output transformer.

If you really desperately want to know why, I could explain further.

>>70848956
I'll see if the amp even has a selector. I'm not sure that it does. I don't want to melt my OT so I'll just wait to hear the amp if I have to.
>>
>>70848980
If there's no impedance selector then you should only use an 8 ohm cab with it, a lot of Fender amps are like this.

If you want an analogy for running a tube amp with the impedance selector set wrong, just run your microwave for a few minutes with no food in it. The microwave delivers power whether there's a load (food) there or not. The tube amp delivers power whether there's a load (the correct speaker load) or not. And they both make a very similar electrical burning smell when the transformers melt.
>>
>>70849089
I'll default to the safe option here and just not mess with it then. It's weird though, because I see so much conflicting info on this topic everywhere.

Lots of "it's fine if you're within your amp's impedance times two or halved. Though it changes the sound and it will wear out your equipment faster."

Thanks for taking the time.
>>
Anyone know anything about the new Squier Bullet Mustang? Good for someone just starting out?
>>
>>70849177
People talk complete shit about tube amps all the time. The fact is that if you don't have the impedance set correctly then you risk damaging the tubes or arcing the transformer.

Marshall used to recommend using 16 ohm cabs because the tiny extra impedance of the speaker lead makes less of a percentage difference to the output stage with the extra transformer secondary windings. So fucking about setting the selector to 4 ohms then connecting a 16 ohm cab clearly isn't the best idea.

>>
>>70849386
Get a better job.

Other than that, just try out some cheapo used guitars at a store and grab one that doesn't suck ass.
>>
>>70849177
Some transformers are more forgiving and will allow it to a certain range, like maybe taking a 12 ohm cab in place of an 8, some wont. Its not an issue of wearing out faster, the little wores that make up the winding will overheat an break. Ive heard of catastrophic failures that blow the the power stage all the way back to the filter caps or rectifier.

You might be fine, but to find out if you'll be fine you'll have to try it. And youll find out in less than a second sometimes you're not.

>Neo-4chan users don't know what b8 looks like, no matter how obvious.
>>
>>70851828
It's a preamp transformer, enough current for five tube heaters and a bit of HT. Not big enough to run any kind of push-pull power amp.
>>
is it ok to use a regular overdrive pedal as a boost? like i have my boutique tone overdrive that stays on always, and then use something like a ts808 to boost volume and maybe add some more tone but no extra distortion
>>
>>70851850
This bait?

Seriously, I agree and Im trying to convey to stop responding to obvious idiots and baiters. If they really are that dumb, ignore them and let them continue to live in ignorance.

A little sage goes a long way for these idiots.

yeah good luck with all that
>>
>>70851887
if you dont mind the sound of it sure

even if you just turn up the level on the pedal, you're still getting certain tone from the pedal

>>70851931
absolutely

the reason being you're not actually touching a lot of it, as opposed to touching a flat surface on a regular neck. it also lets them finish it with a thicker coat, so there's added protection that you dont get with a really thin finish like on a lot of satin guitars

sup, fa/gg/ots?

i might not get a real answer but here goes:

what's your "go to" scale/mode to practice before jumping around with other scales/modes? i've been trying to practice songs and learn some genres, but i keep getting stumped on forming chords/arpeggios because i'm jumping around different scales.

i'm thinking about sticking with GMaj/Emin before i start to jump around.

thoughts?

Stratocasters are the best guitar, I don't know why any other guitar makes exist. All guitars should be Stratocasters.

Playing through a tube screamer is literally the same thing as playing through a jcm 900. The only difference is the tube screamer osnt completely awful, it doesnt sound like a jcm 900

>>70852025

>>70852086
i'll bite. i'm a strat player, but it really comes down to what the player can do with the guitar/rig they have. clapton can sound like clapton no matter what he's playing.
>>
I have played guitar for 15 years. I stopped for 5 years and picked it up again, buying nice Dean with 'd' neck. Before I had B.C. Rich Warlock and Jackson (don't even remember which model but it was easy to play).

However, now when I practice my thumb and related areas are getting fucking painful even when playing normal power chords. Issue is that I never ever had this when I first started to play years ago. My playing ability has almost returned in one month of playing (almost is relative) but the thumb pain is troubling me as I clearly remember I never ever had this issue even when I picked up guitar first time when I was young and played with various instruments before.

Could the neck shape cause this issue?
>>
>>70852086
How am I supposed to play death metal on a strat???

>>
>>70852318
I learned all the diatonic scale shape in the key of C, using fret markers as a reference point, so changing key throws me off a bit.

I can do it, but it takes effort so I just default to noodling in A minor.
>>
>>70852495
yeah, that's the problem i was trying to describe in my post. changing keys and whatnot. have you tried other modes?
>>
>>70852411
You know that pic that gets posted here about close your thumb in your fist and move it down?

You got carpal tunnel. It wont go away, but if you keep playing will become less discomforting. Take breaks and dont stress it too hard.
>>
>>70852584
I'll occasionally change the root note but play the same shape if I want to play in a mode. I rarely play modes in other keys though.
>>
Viper fag here. Day 6 of waiting on this in the mail. Probably come Wednesday or Thursday.

Picked it up for a thousand australian dollaridigeridoodars. They're usually up around $1600 bucks.

She's coming.
>>
>>70852625
That actually makes sense now when I think about it. I have worked very hard with computer since I stopped playing guitar. My left hand is probably fucked. Thanks for the info, I'll look into that. When I was younger I didn't work every day for 8+ hours on computer...

>>
>>70852783
it all comes down to what you wanna do
if you wanna play dirty and it sounds good to you even if you know your playing isn't 100% accurate, it's not a fucking crime
now if you wanna play clean and it sounds like shit and you turn up the dirt to cover it up, that's completely retarded

One way to get better:

Record your every session on computer. Use metronome every time you play or record.

It hurts to listen all those little mistakes what even the slightest move of your pick does but eventually you'll get more robotic precision.

Take one song what you like to play and record it once a week for example. Then after few weeks review your progress how clean it is. Compare it to the original recording.

(just ideas and this is something what I'm going to do as well)

That's nice. What bothers me is that I bought a new guitar and it has tune-o-matic bridge. However in every promo picture the tune-o-matic sits nicely on the surface of the guitar like in picture of yours but my bridge is lifted up and the 2 big screws in the middle are so fragile looking. This really boggles my mind what happened at the factory (South Korean, neck-thru, mahogany etc, it wasn't cheap guitar). I understand the bridge is adjustable for sure but why it's not like in the pictures.

It's not expensive at all to completely replace a tom if it's really that bad, but that sucks that it was low end to begin with. If you want to get a guitar to work on, they are great as you can spec them up to higher models and get relatively a very similar guitar as all that matters is the wood/finish whatever. I have bought a lower end M-series in the past and want to spec it out similar to an M-II down the line (I'll probably just end up saving for an M-II).

>>70853006
