https://youtu.be/I9YlTBEBwIQ
>>
>>70827020
When I play slowly it reverts to the kind of technique where I try to do as small movements as possible, but when I play fast it changes into the vibrating thing and my hand is tensed in the recording there, I also need to warm up a lot to be able to play anywhere faster than 220bpm, and I also haven't actually practiced anything seriously with a metronome in a few years now, what I do is I put on a movie, or a youtube vid or even do it while listening to music since you can feel when you make a mistake, and I just play random runs, nothing pre-thought of, just going up down left right, wherever, but alternate picking it all

>>
>>70827266

>>70827268
>really fast mouse clicks
that's why you bind to a key or the mousewheel
regardless of that, tensing up sucks in terms of control and endurence
>>
>>70827130
Thanks. This helps a lot.

>what I do is I put on a movie, or a youtube vid or even do it while listening to music since you can feel when you make a mistake

I've heard a lot of fast pickers say they do something like this. Just to be clear, you do this practice unplugged and not really listening to what you're playing, but just feeling it out?

I guess what I was curious about was how you develop the technique for playing fast, when the natural tendency is to use a different technique when playing slowly.

I need to grind levels. Fast alternate picked scalar runs that sound like a baseball card in bicycle spokes is a sound I've always wanted to be able to achieve but haven't yet.

https://youtu.be/j4vxLHln7QE
>>
>>70827320
idk, it's very barely tense, the beginning there is played non-tensed at all, the longer I go the more tense it becomes
>>
>>70827360
>the longer I go the more tense it becomes
That's not gradually tensing up then, it's just your muscles telling you "dude please stop I'm gonna give out". Which is the exact reason people get guitar related injuries.
>>
post >yfw you realized women can't into guitar
>>
>>70827357
>Just to be clear, you do this practice unplugged and not really listening to what you're playing, but just feeling it out?
Yes, and in the recording there it is also all random
I also had this extremely autistic technique for some time, where I had to align my knuckles straight with the strings to play fast, this was due to practicing in a bad wrist position when playing slow, so whenever I needed to play fast I needed to change my wrist position, I managed to change it but I can't actually recall how
So when you practice slow do it in a really comfortable wrist position
>>
>>70827621
Thanks. Gonna put in some work on this.
>>
>>70827657
also I really recommend listening to loads of albums everyday, my songwriting skyrocketed just from that, even if I didn't practice songwriting that much
>>

read books

learn poetic sounding words and combinations

fiddle around with guitar chords and shit til you find what you like.

play solos from songs you like and use parts of them to make your own lead parts

it's all about finding your own musical inspiration and ways

you don't wanna be THAT guy that rips of other people though,

I need to get this peg into this hole. The original peg is lost in time so I'm debating two methods. Either I saw the new peg down and glue it in, or I deepen the hole and then glue it in. Possibly a mix of both methods.

I'm generally uncomfortable with the thought of putting a hole in my guitar though. The current hole is about half a centimeter

Could've been, I'm in college and I recently got into college and don't have a job so I have a lot of time in the day to consume media and practice at the same time, I end up listening to loads of albums while at the same time noodling non-stop on guitar, and if you count that as practice then it's atleast 6 hours a day
>>70830267
Hos down is absolutely abhorrent, those genre changes are some of the most embarassing I've ever heard
I also really like his solo on omni
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69zFCSToXzE
and the solos he did while he was still in born of osiris
most notably on dissimulation, which is the only solo of his I've heard where he played some beautiful soundin SLOW licks, usually when he tries to do that it ends up sounding very amateurish
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmn8hU_B4l8
also yeah the aviator solo is cool, it's also a lot easier than you think, I used to think the economy picking section at 3:03 on that solo was monstrous, but it's actually the easiest part of the solo

He sells some lessons in his store (http://www.jasonrichardsonmusic.com/), though the contents may just be exercise tabs and some explanations of his technique. He also sells tabs for all of his solos and his album.

I'll use your Omni transcription if you don't mind uploading it, it seems pretty fun to play desu.

Does anyone else have major problems with tendinitis?

I have it mainly in the back of the wrist, not the thumb.

It basically stops me from playing anything strenuous while standing up because the wrist has to bend a lot more.

plays generally like a standard guitar. for single line runs you have to remember to pick through both strings though.

your e and b strings arent octaves, so put one of them very very very slightly out of tune to get a chorus effect rather than just two of the exact same note

if you want to use thicker strings, you need to downtune to D or Eb standard and then use a capo to bring it back up, otherwise you'll have too much stress on the neck.

>>70833735
Yeah I agree. There is something a bit hollow about the cleans, but that's what I like about them. I don't really like the rich creamy cleans of a lot of passive pickups. Tehy sound a bit sickly and such a cliche to my ear. What got me onto EMGs was Metallica's clean sections in Sanitarium, Harvester of sorrow, the master of puppets interlude etc. The distorted sound isn't all that special to me, sounds pretty stock standard.

>>70829738
Cool chart. I don't really know much about pedals and what's good because the cube does pretty much everything I want it to. I got that wah on a real good sale, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with one. I have always just been fascinated with wahs. I'm not bothered with pedals in general. I'd much rather put the 500 bucks or so it would cost on a decent setup towards another guitar.

Also I have like this phobia of tube amps. I've always been sort of scared of them blowing up or suddenly going extremely loud or something going wrong and causing ear damage. Hence the Orange high-end solid state dream amp. I am a big fan of solid state. It just calms me down and they still sound great.

I also don't know much about cabinets and what sounds good to me so this stock standard blackstar generic whatever it is will have to do. I am one who will gravitate towards things used less often, not to be different, just to try to get a new and exciting sound.

I've been playing 6 years this year. I guess I should know a little more about my stuff at this point. I don't like going to guitar stores because of a couple reasons. They are all over priced here, they all stock budge to lower-end mid-range gear and well, I don't really go out all that often and just like to stay home. So I bought all my stuff blind online. I'm not too worried about how stuff sounds. In my mind, how it sounds is how it sounds and it doesn't really matter half as much as everyone makes out at the end of the day.

Since toan wood fags got btfo because science and their own ear proved them wrong they have since tried to to justify using exoctic wood with "muh aesthetics." Theyll make outrageous claims about how the guitar is the most beautiful guitar theyve ever seen. Bull. Fucking. Shit. I remember the most beautiful girl ive ever seen. I remember the most beautiful car ive ever seen. I could pick my tabby cat out of 100 tabby cats cause shes the most beautiful tabby ive ever seen, shes important to me. These dickheads, guitar isnt important to them. They spend more time on the warmoth and halo websites jacking off than they do playing. You could put any of their guitars in a lineup with other special snowflake guitars that use the same meme wood, same meme shape, and same meme hardware...and they wouldnt be able to see the differenece. So much for being important or uniquely beautiful. I still remember the chip in the neck finish of my first guitar, how my thumb felt as i passed over it when i was moving to the 5th fret. The only thing they remember is seeing the name on the head srock as it sits on their wall like a trophy. What a bunch of fucking loser you guys are, to slave your lives away to buy gear that you never use.

I wish they would do a gloss true black finish, but hey, doesn't really matter. I guess they want to remain easily recognizable.

If it's the cleans you don't like, try EMGs through a solid state. They sound incredibly clear. Because they are so hot, they distort on tube amps. I think (recalling from memory here) Kirk Hammett used a solid state randall to record something once years ago.

Thrash? What you talking about? Solid state amps can produce some of the loudest and cleanest clean sounds of any type of amp. Just ask pretty much any Jazz player. It's the distortion that a lot of people think let's them down.
>>
>>70833430
Yeah you did. It's a really low end modeling amp you should have just downloaded the software modeling amps and got an interface.
>>
>>70834471
I gurantee if some faggot here owned that they could set it down next to jerry garcias guitar and not be able to tell a difference.

I saw 2 shitheads that bought guitars from the same luthier in the area walk off with eachothers guitars. They both had elm tops and were pretty similar in shape, but one had a huge dark spot.

3 month later they realized it. One guy kept his next to his computer desk where he beat off, he didnt clean it off and he fucked the finish. Tried to take it back to the luthier, who checked a serial number he hid under the bridge, and from there he realized they switched guitars.

>Anyone who falls for the solid state meme is an idiot.
Well, that's your opinion and that's fine, but there is a lot to like about Solid States. I mean, if you want to fire up a tube for touring or recording, sure, that's fair enough. But for practice and exploration, using a solid state means you don't want to have to worry about servicing, warming up tubes, changing sounds as the amp warms, babying it and not worrying about cracking a tube by moving it while it's still hot or whatever else comes along with that.

There are great advantages to taking an solid state on the road as well as they are nearly indestructible. If you're willing to sacrifice some subjective tone for all that convenience, then you might just grow to like some of the sounds you can get with a Solid State.
