What, are some of the quality amp brands?

I am looking at a Gretsch guitar right now if that matters

It was said in the other thread, but you can't go wrong with:
Vox AC15
Fender Blues Jr

For blues/rock stuff you're probably best off with the Fender and Vox.

>HE'S CONFUSING HIMSELF AGAIN

Since you seriously seem to be lost and retarded

Gibson has a large back angle on their headstock with no volute on most of their guitars, when you drop a gibson it is ALWAYS the first thing to go because the angle is (pointlessly) severe

it's not that the string has break angles you retarded fuck, break angles are necessary, it's that gibson's retarded design introduces TOO MUCH of one by angling the headstock way WAY back

lol holy shit you're so incredibly dumb, you're so dumb, i can only imagine the first time you tried to adjust something on your guitar that you just shit your pants in fear and confusion

>>
>>70692044
>>70692039
Dude. Its literally just the strings putting tension on the weakest part of the neck.

Its a fact.

Gibson was talking about it at NAMM and added a bunch of wood there (something Schechter did a long time ago) to strengthen the weak point.

The other way to strengthen it is to lower the angle.

You clearly have no idea how physics works.

Just bought a Super Sonic 22 head. What's a great 2 x 12 cab that I can buy for it? I've never had to get a cabinet before.

Got tired of dealing with a single tone knob and no other features on my Tiny Terror. So I'm selling that.
>>
>>70692443

Anything with the right speakers, really. Big ones of quality that come to mind are Avatar, Emperor, or a matching Fender.

Look up speakers more than cabs. Celestion Greenbacks go well with those.

WHats your budget? For $400-$500 you can get a nice used 2x12 with V30s like Dr.Z's and they come in Blonde so they'll match with your Super Sonic. You can also order a custom Avatar, Morgan or Jet City cab for under $500
>>
Hey guys. So I've got a Fender P-bass clone from some generic company. Would it be stupid to sand their logo off the headstock, apply my own decal (with my name or some shit), and paint the rest of the bass?

I'd like to turn it into something cool, and it's some generic clone with no real value, so I don't feel bad about changing it like this. I'd probably paint it cherry red and buy a pearl pickguard.

I'd also like to redo the electronics in it. Pickups/etc. are fine but the bass seems to drop audio sometimes regardless of what cable I use. Is this a problem that is solvable by redoing the solder? It's a generic clone so I'm sure its done in the shittiest way and the solder is old, but I haven't checked.

It's worth doing to learn more about your instrument. Don't be disillusioned to think that your knockoff partscaster is anything but a knockoff partscaster, however.

New pickups, pots and output jacks are a pretty easy change.

CTS pots and switchcraft jacks cost a bit more than chink stuff but last much longer

Friendly reminder: the kiddies who post in /gg/ threads have nearly ***zero*** experience concerning guitar. Playing, repair, new player recommendations, etc. The average age in these threads is around early 20s: green as shit grass.

If you have an actual question this is probably one of the most uninformed & least knowledgeable places you could ever expect a proper answer to come from.

Be wary of any advice given here as it's amateur & perfunctory at best.

the santana body is definitely a differnet shape

I don't see Santanas go for less regularly, they go in the same price range

Santanas have a shorter scale length, so it takes less tension to bring them to tune, making the strings slinkier and easier to bend

Does the shorter scale length change the way the instrument sounds at all? On reverb the Santanas in the color I want are going for 495 and the Custom 24s for 550 with the PRS tremolo and one for 497 but 44$ shipping with a floyd rose. I'm debating whether or not I really want to pay more to get the custom 24 without the floyd or if I should just get the santana.

>Does the shorter scale length change the way the instrument sounds at all?

Slightly. Shirter scale is better for higher notes, longer scale better for lower notes.
>>
>>70693475
yes, part of the reason a strat or a tele has a bit more snap/spank/high end/whatever is because of scale length, they're .75 inches longer than a Gibson. they also hold up better for lower tunings when they have a longer scale

floyd rose bridges are incredibly annoying imo, i wouldn't mess with it

That does make the longer scale sound better. I want the option of trying out lower tuning. I've heard that the floyd rose is harder to deal with but I'd also like the option of being able to go hard on the trem bar without going out of tune. Still, I'm leaning strongly towards the PRS trem instead of the floyd because of how much easier it will be. It's going to cost an extra $29 to get it without the floyd though. The seller with the one cheaper floyd unit only has like 7 ratings though while the one with the more expensive one has over 1,000 good ratings as well as a floyd one for the exact same price.

I have to return the PRS I got used from Guitar Center because the truss rod in it is fucked and for some reason the intonation on the 6th string just cannot be set right.

Same. I asked about peoples opinions on a Modulus Funk Unlimited 4. As soon as I said $6,100, I was told it was a waste...

It did lead me to discover the Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray Neck Through. Looking at a 4HH in Pacific Blue Burst for $2,200.

The Modulus I'm looking at is in Black Cherry Burst with Quilt Maple. And a Lane Poor pick up. That pick up alone is worth more than most Squires...
>>

I asked about graphite necks before, and no one responded. I'm just getting into the high-end market, though.

I was interested in putting a graphite neck on my Ibanez GSR205SM. Got it for about $320, and really enjoy it. However I've had problems with neck warping, fret buzz, and dead zones. Same with my other Ibanez. A Iceman ICB550.

I kind of want to get a Modulus because they were designed around the Graphite neck, not the other way around. Additionally, they have Lane Poor pick ups, and BadAss II bridges. I've never heard of anyone having the neck warping, fret buzz, dead zone problems with a Modulus.

I'll look into Lightwave.

The previous suggestion I got was Dingwall... their used basses are about as much as a used Modulus, so not good reason to get that instead...

Def go with the Fender. The Hofner is a great bass and I never played one I didn't like, but its a bit of a one trick pony in terms of usable tones. That is of course you want the Hofner sound, and you really only wanna use Flatwounds with one. The Mustang will probably have a wider range of usable tones and will probably be a better bass in the long run.

I haven't tried the neck through model but I have played the bolt on HH one. They are pretty versatile. The necks are big so if you like that then you will find them comfortable. I prefer the older stingray pre-amps but the new ones have the centre notch which is handy if you don't want a strongly coloured sound as the older pre-amps are more aggressive imo.

>putting a graphite neck on my Ibanez GSR205SM.
That's kind of a terrible idea imo. The neck pocket is probably poorly cut to begin with, which would just (probably) translate the "weak point" in the bass from the neck to the neck pocket or somewhere else.
Also I don't want to sound like a dickhead but if you've had neck warping issues on two basses maybe it's the way you maintain them that's at fault.
That said, I have a GIO and they're made out of ass.

>>70694348
My local music store has a really shitty choice too, loads of expensive gibsons/fenders and just "metal guitars" esp/ibanez/schecter models.
They don't even have Squiers so I'm guessing they don't have a clue to what they're doing.
Their bass stock is 1/4 the size of their guitar stock but more diverse somehow. The most expensive bass I've played was an Ibanez SR506, clocking at an exorbitant price of €600

It was my Iceman ICB550 that had the bigger problem. I'm not sure if the neck on my GSR205SM is warped or not, but its starting to get fret buzz in frets it didn't before.

So, I've recently started learning guitar (I'M A COPMLETE NOOB), there's one thing that confuses me a lot: Why there are dozens of different chords with the same name?
>>
>>70698395

A chord is made up of at least three notes. You can achieve those same 3-4 notes in multiple places on the fretboard. Just because it's a different octave or in a different place doesn't mean the same group of notes isn't the same chord. Dig?
>>
>>70698395
They are made up of the same notes and played at different positions on the neck. Notes are repeated throughout the fretboard. Its the same exact chord played in a different octave.
>>
>>70698416
>>70698428
Dig, thanks, senpais.
>>
>>70698395
I have a similar question. So if I tune my guitar down to, say C standard and play what would normally be, for example, a G chord. Is this the same chord still? The notes are obviously different but it still sounds similar.
>>
>>70698573

The chord voicing is the same. However, what would have been a G major would then be an E major.

He's right good luck selling a second hand Squier for 400 and not waiting 8 months to sell it. I wouldn't sell it to him because he's clearly chode but if I got 350 I'd be ecstatic.

The new line was marketed in a way that annoyed people but in my short time playing one it seemed like a nice guitar for it's price point. My vintage duo sonic is my favorite guitar I own.

what i didn't tell him is i would have taken 350. I'm more after getting trade value for this

PS if you're in the LA area and have a tiny terror/sovtek mig 50/or some other confounded bass tube head i am trading mentioned fender

Guys, I need help. I want a nice little cheap practice amp. What should I get? Orange Crush 12 or Fender Frontman 25R? I can get each one for 50 euros, used. I'm really looking for a nice clean mostly, a decent distortion would be nice, but not really necessary. I also have a DS-1 for my distortion needs, so yeah, a nice clean is my biggest concern. What would you guys recommend from these two? Thanks!

I had to come share this:

I was just helping my neighbor do some work on a dolly (read: this old man entertained my millennial ass as I made a fool of myself for an hour and a half not knowing what a wrench is), and he asked me if I could take a look at some electronic stuff his brother left him.

So, I shit you not, he whips out an original 60's Fender Bassman tube head with the 2x15 cabinet and an original Mosrite Venture, all in used but great condition. The wrap on the amp and the finish of the bass could use some TLC, but fuck man.

Luckily, I convinced him to clean them off, get them to Sam Ash for some refinish and legit appraisal, and to get them out of his dusty, humid garage. He says he wants me to come by and give it a test run once it's all set up. Fuck man, owning a house in a neighborhood where you're everyone's junior by at least 15 years is great sometimes.
>>

Fender for cleans, Orange for OD, pretty much as a rule. There are exceptions, of course, but especially at that bracket I'd get the Fender for the cleans.

Yo so I've been playing guitar on and off for like ten years but the F chord / Barre chords are still fucking me over.

I'm not planning to buy anything less than 7 anymore, they feel the same in my hands as a 6, but with more options and voicings.
Same with 5 string basses.

If you think someone's a worse player because he doesn't use the same amount of strings as you, regardless of your choice, you're a cunt.

It is, objectively, both give more options on the same position.
Subjectively, I think both are as easy to adapt to as their regular counterpart.

Also I'm not the guy playing a 7, only got a 6 right now and I'm going for an 8 in a few months.

>>70702399
>the difference between a 5/16th and another sized wrench on sight
oh yeah boi reading what's written on the wrench is hard
>>
>>70702493
realistic application is the difference

90% of tunes don't require a 7 string guitar, and a ton of 7 string tunes can be done using a downtuned 6

can't say the same for basses
>>
>>70702515
Maybe he writes his own music? I don't really see the downside of having an extra string.
>>
>>70702535
not saying there is one, I just dont think it's the exact same thing as having a 5 string bass, which as a gigging bassist is pretty much standard if you have to cover everything
>>
*plays indie pop*
ugh what wrench size is this...
>>
>>70702556
Probably depends on the type of music. I think 7 strings are becoming more and more common in metal.
>>
>>70702515
Oh I see what you're talking about. You're absolutely right.

>>70702535
Downside is just limited choice and a little extra muting to do.
I'm just extending my range for the extra chordal voicings and the way I play.
You also get to play in more keys with a capo.

Tell me where your ego touched you so we can begin the healing process of you getting the fuck over yourself.

>>70702493
I have to remember that the people on this site are autistic and can't tell the difference between hyperbole and literal statements.

I don't literally not know how to wrench. I am not literally incapable of reading. I was using slight exaggeration for entertainment's sake. The literal events that occurred were that he asked me to hand him a couple different wrenches and sockets, and I had to take more than a couple seconds to find them because I could not discern the exact difference between them without reading the inscribed descriptions. In this capacity, I was certainly less experienced than the older, more experienced craftsman who found the situation comical, as I am IT/compsci major with 8 different certifications but it took me nearly a minute to find a wrench.

I hope the level of literalism I used was sufficient for your mental handicap.
>>

Are floyd roses really that much harder to deal with than a standard tremolo? I'm trying to choose between two of the same guitar with the same prices one with a one of the cheaper licensed korean floyds and one with a prs trem which from my understanding is supposed to be better than other brands of trem.

My main concern is extra difficulty in tuning, restringing, and setting intonation. But I am also concerned about tuning stability. From my understanding the korean floyds aren't as good but it should be easy to drop in one of the better floyds which I wouldn't be opposed to doing.

Also, is it true that the Edge is better than the floyd?

>using a downtuned 6

You lose your high e string detuning. Or whatever. You can tune to b standard or drop a and keep your high e, or tune gcgcgce for some cool stuff. There rrally isnt much downside to a 7 string.

>heavier
Nah, plenty of 15 pound led payls around

>strings cost more and sets suck
True, use just strings or something. Curt mangan us good

>harder to play
In your mind. Dont ride up your low e and you wont have to worry much. If youre sloppy, youre sloppy regardless if the guitar

>djent
Yeah. Doesnt mean I have to use it that way.

>hardly anything uses that tuning
For pop rock shit, sure.

Worst part for me is limited pickup choices. Maybe I dont want actives or high gain bare knuckles.

But why do I have to justify my style or purchases to /gg/?
