okay if you spend like $1000 on a guitar, how much should you pay for an amp?
i'm assuming buying a more expensive guitar would require buying a better amp to really make the most of your expensive purchase.
like you wouldn't watch a bluray on a crt
>>
>>70704793
why would you buy shit tier canadian whisky?
>>
>>70704842
You should spend more on an amp than a guitar. The guitar has almost no affect on sound compared to an amp.
>>
>>70704865
I agree with your first sentence but prepare for toanfags getting buttblasted at you
>>
>>70704842
90% of electric guitar sound is the amp + effects.
The guitar should mainly hold tune and be properly made/set-up. Well the pickups also kinda matter
>>
>>70704842
I think having a nice amp is more important. You can spend $5k on a guitar and play it out of a shitty $50 amp and it will sound just as bad as a $100 guitar. Now, if you play that same $100 guitar on a $600 amp it will start to sound pretty good.

>>70705058

>>
>>70705032
Craftsmanship, playability, wood quality, potential investment, brand name, etc. Around $1000 will get you the best guitar you'll need. But definitely get a nice amp to go along with it
>>
>>70705070
>a good set up from the factory
a good setup, fretjob aside, is either 30$ or an hour at most

guitar bodies are simple, even the cheap Ibanez S feel great

Nah mate, started playing bass at 19, guitar at 21, was leading worship a year later. Probably took 3 years to really feel comfortable around other musicians that I could hold my own.

All depends all your goals, learning diatonic theory will help not only your compositions but also your lead playing because you'll understand why certain tones sound better over chord than others

You're gonna need a router and a drill.Basically remove bridge and drill new holes for jazzmaster thimbles and bridge.

Then find a template for jazzmaster tremolo cavity, print it out, trace it and make a template from mdf. Then rout it out

If you don't have a router you can ghetto rig the cavity by drilling a bunch of pilot holes with a forstner bit and clean it up with a chisel until you have a cavity that will support the tremolo.

Not worth the trouble and not particularly cheap if you don't already have all those tools imo

You're a different case, church gets you to a top rank player. I love playing with black musicians because a lot of them learned to play in church, or at least spent a lot of time with it. The most talented musicians ive ever played consistently with all came from church, except the bass player who played upright in concert and jazz band for 10 years.

the sitar is difficult, takes a long time to get good at, and if you do get good all you can do with it is either go full raga and play indian music, or you can add some random background noise to the very few pieces of music that call for them

>>70711367
hehe effects :)
>>
>>70711367
This isn't my cup of tea so take my suggestions with a grain of salt.

Too many effects makes it too muddy. What is that a phaser through the whole song? Well placed effects can be great but the music has no punch. Like someone forgot to turn reverb off.

Dialing in a more focused EQ will help too. I didn't listen with headphones so I don't know if you did this, but isolating the tracks and panning them can help immensely.

I won't comment on the quality of the music itself though, I'll be too biased against the genre.
>>
>>70709596
They need to up their endorsement game. They used to be THE metal company but now Dean and Schecter and Ibeenhaz have taken that light.

Fender may be just letting the brand die though, who knows.

Their guitars are great, assuming you like metal but you know, they aren't marketing towards the metal crown like they need to be.
>>
>>70711448
Well, thanks for the feedback. I think it's the recording equipment itself rather than the FX which make it sound muddy. I also haven't used the reverb.
>>
>>70711367
I fell asleep
>>
>>70711367
Get someone who sounds like John Garcia on there and shut off the phaser and it'd be pretty dank. Also drums could be louder.
>>
>>70711489
Unless you're recording with a tin can, you should be able to get a clear piece of music. I'm not saying you had reverb, I'm saying that the effects muddy your sound and make it seem that way.

You can keep the effects but you have to be smart about EQ, panning, compression, levels, and all of that jazz. You have to strike that balance.
>>
What are some pedals I should get? So far I have really only one useful pedal, a big muff.
>>
>>70711530
Well, I personally like the phaser, maybe I should use more subtle one though.
>>70711552
Thanks for suggestions, not sure though if it's possible to get it right using Guitar Rig software but I will take a look.
>>
>>70711575
I like phaser too. But it gets old after 5 and a half continuous minutes.
>>
>>70711608
Than maybe I should use the more subtle one. I think it makes it sound kinda trippy which I like.
>>
>>70711647
It'd be better if you just used it less. You don't have to cut it out entirely, just save it for certain parts.
>>
>>70705058
Nah way dude, just keep at it. Surround yourself with (nice) musicians who are better than you. It should drive you and inspire you to become better and learn new things on guitar. Also, just try and play music with other dudes you get along with. If they have little tricks that they seem to do often that sound cool, ask them to teach you how.

For generic, utilitarian use, a nice preamp pedal is great. Loopers are almost necessary for practice and can make cool gimmicks live.

Beyond that it's up to what you want to sound like and what your amp can't deliver on that front. Chorus and delay pedals can be surprisingly fun.

So some little chick with a pixie haircut told me that I'd be hot if I played bass. Well, she didn't actually say it, but I could tell it was what she was thinking. Anyhow, I ended up buying a Squire P Bass is "I'm thirty-five and alone red", and a Vox Bass 'headphone amp'. The hiss seems really significant if I put the gain anything above about 3. The notes sound like what I imagine bass notes should sound like, but the hiss is pretty annoying. I also picked up a used Peavey MicroBass, and it doesn't seem to have the same hiss as best I can tell. Could just be its less noticeable without headphones? Any who, does that seem normal, or should I take back the Vox?

My build: http://pastebin.com/wkPtJm80

Only reason I'm posting on /gg/ is because I have gotten help before with advice for my setup.

My setup: Desktop>Focusrite>286s>Sm7b
>>
>>70714057
I use a Focusrite Pro 24 clocked externally from an Octopre and it's perfectly stable right up to 96kHz. Are you running a lot of other devices on the USB bus? If the USB bus runs out of bandwidth then digital audio will drop out immediately. Also, is your computer slow?

Disconnect all other devices from the USB hub, then buy a faster computer.

I only have 4 usbs plugged into the hub (universal power supply, keyboard, Mouse, and Focusrite). I have 4 usb slots that are not being used.

Computer isn't slow at all.

Maybe try a different USB port on the computer. I'm guessing you've got the latest drivers installed? What sample rate are you recording at?
>>

Same as the blues, friend

I notice it happening in OBS and discord (sometimes on that 2nd one).

Sample rate: 44.1khz in OBS.

Also I notice if I go into the focusrite usb playback properties, I can't use the 1 channel formats at all because it just omits static.

>What's the real difference between the Ibanez Prestige and Premium lines?
Premiums come from Indonesia, Prestiges come from Japan. Supposedly Japan has the best quality control, but I've never played a Premium to make a comparison. The biggest difference is gearbois will jizz a lot more over the Prestige name, and as I'm sure we're all aware, branding is the biggest factor when it comes to price

>I own an Iron Label RG, how is that different from Premium?
Iron Labels are specifically built with metal players in mind. Most of them are HH with no tone knob and a general metal aesthetic. It's also closer to Standard Series quality, just with better pickups and bridges

Plug into a different USB port on your computer and report back.

The Pro 24 is a firewire interface and Focusrite say that it works best with firewire interfaces that use a Texas Instruments 1394 chip (no, really, they actually specify that shit). I take that to mean it doesn't work well with other interfaces, maybe it's an issue with the USB hub not wanting to talk to the Focusrite properly.

When you plug in a USB device it's meant to "negotiate" the amount of bandwidth it requires on the bus, then the host hub allocates as much bandwidth as it can up to the amount requested by the device. I had shitloads of trouble getting Eventide pedals to even detect on a cheap USB hub, bought an Anker USB 3.0 hub and all my problems went away instantly.

>Anker USB 3.0 hub
might try that.

Plugged it into my SuperSpeed usb plug. It's working for now. I can't really trigger it to happen. If I record or stream in OBS for a while, that can trigger the static to come back, but Idk when it'll happen.

Believe me, I was tearing my hair out until I got a decent hub. Ended up buying three Anker hubs, USB detection hasn't failed once on them and everything just works.
