Settled Dust Edition (?)

/Mu we fucking did it

NOW we wait for Fagtano or P4K to see this shit and celebrate in the mean time.
Discuss and stuff, but most ideas are closed for change unless absolutely necessary.
(Like the recent album cover change)

>”Vinyl when?”
This would be rad af, but unfortunately it’s highly illegal and we dont own any sampling rights.
Maybe in the late future.

But regardless all the old threads should still exist in the archives etc.

Thanks again everyone.

this
>>
Question for everyone.

Why are you guys pushing the original cover so hard? Just wondering.
>>
>>70682818
Honestly I hate it, I like the more aesthetic cover
>>
>>70682818
Purple cover sucks. It's just the loud minority.
>>
>>70682839
You hate the new or old one?
I find both aesthetically pleasing.
>>
>>70682869
The grey one is way better than the purple one, the purple one is as trashy as TLOP's cover was
>>
>>70682884
Well, regardless the purple one still managed to destroy the 200 free download limit in less than like two hours at like 1AM and blow up enough to reach Fantano.

They're both good in my opinion, but there's obviously a divide when it comes the cover. The previous threads have shown that too.
>>
>>70682884
>>70682954
>>70682866
Why should an album of this nature have a bland but aesthetically appealing cover?

The trashiness of the TLOP cover is perfect for this.
>>
>>70683146
Because TDOP is a classy lady. You gotta treat her like such.

>>
>>70682818
I just got used to the purple cover and wanted it back, but looking at how nice the bandcamp page looks with the new cover, and just how well it works paired with the music, was enough to make me love it
>>
>>70683924
Ah okay, thanks for explaining at least
>>
>>70682866

Purple cover relates more to the original. The TLOP cover design is iconic at this point. Also it's way more attention grabbing. You immediately know it has something to do with Kanye when looking at it. If you want Kanye to hear it, you need the purple cover back.

>I miss the old Kanye
>BAM BE DAM
>>
>>70684504
But it DID have a vinyl pressed of it.
If this is never pressed on vinyl, why not cassette? There are hundreds of vaporwave albums that have been released on cassette with obvious samples, including Late Night Delight, which uses very identifiable Michael Jackson samples, and is very often repressed.
>>
>>70685176
Do you want a list of direct samples or a list of the tracks that were put together?
>>

>>
>>70685292

>>
>>70685358
christ, okay you're gonna have to give me some time.
>>
Why not distribute this on cassettes?
I wasn't involved in this project but I could record this onto c90's all day and all night and mail em to anyone interested.
>>
>>70685655
how much would that cost you?
>>
>>70685670
Idk, whatever it costs me to power my tape decks. Which is nothing cause my landlord pays utilities.

Real talk I'd just need blank cassettes. I could A) Buy them in bulk for cheap, but slower shipping
B) Buy them on Amazon, they cost maybe $2 CAD a pop but ship faster
C) Plunder a thrift store for cassettes, erase the original recordings and re-record

None of these ways are prohibitively expensive
>>
>>70685780
Well shit I mean, I think a lot of people would legit want this if you really wanna make this happen on your budget.

email [email protected] so we can really plan this etc
>>
>>70685823
hahaha fuck it let's do it. I have exams this first half of this week but I'll definitely drop you guys an email within 24 hours.

Note that this will be pretty lo-fi. I have a background in live sound but I haven't fucked with mastering and what not. I'll basically just be feeding the output from the FLAC files into the input on my decks and pressing record.

I'd be using ferric tapes with Dolby B reduction, unfortunately I can't afford a Dolby S deck until I graduate.

I'd record some on chromium dioxide (better dynamic range, less noise) for any of you cocksuckers that were actually involved in the making of this master piece. Unfortunately chromium. is a bit expensive to just mail to anyone.
>>
>>70685932
hahaha holy shit im gonna piss my pants
ill start making the cassette covers etc right now on a template and everything

I also got school shit to do lately, like a lot of it
we'll talk more about it in the email, like who made the work, who paid 7 fucking dollars for it, who asked for the release (ferric) or whatever y'know

>>70686124
Yeah it showed up on my rym and I thought it was just a meme but it sounds damn good. The harsh noise section isn't my fav but the rest is just some good plunderphonics.

It's got like an Avalanches fucked with Kanye fucked with Kid Koala fucked with DJ Shadow vibe fucked with clipping vibe to it.

Weird Drum Patterns
Choof
Kami Sutra

now for (identified) album art:

King Death

Foxconn
(and Tau-9 obviously, but I'm not counting twice when I give the number)

so thats a total of 16 people so far, not counting all the things that stayed anonymous

im still waiting to see what the first media outlet to pick up on this will be, its gotten too high ranking (at least on rym) and far reaching to not be at least mentioned
>>
My good tape-deck LITERALLY just died. It's whining like a mf, think the belt is gone. Whatever I can buy a new one within the week.

For now I'm doing a little trial on my 4 track. I won't lie, it's some pretty lo-fi sounding shit but it's actually totally listenable. If I was recording with my actual tape deck it would be nearly indiscernible from a disc save for the noise sections.

>>70687646
absolutely. for the real deal I'll record off of FLAC and actually try to get the levels right. I'm just trying to see if the noise sections will even be tolerable right now, the tape I have in the machine isn't even long enough for the whole thing.

>>70687674
I'll probably just mail them anonymously to those who want them. Maybe put a couple copies on the seats of city buses or some other silly shit. No intent on selling other peoples (your guys-es) work

this is the beginning of some real shit right here

what we can do is like be really edgy and not put ANY credits on the cassette cover, but put the link to the bandcamp and let ppl have to look up what the hell it is they found
>>
>>70687946
yeah I was thinking about that, in a selfish way I want all our info on there for noteriety, but I think it's indeed more striking to just have artist names, tdop badncamp and twitter

yeah or literally ONLY put the bandcamp twitter etc, that way its like a mission for people to find out what the cassette is all about

>>70687919
I'll consider leaving them around campus and what not but part of me thinks it would be best in moderation so that the people who find them would be the lucky few. Definitely leaving one on a shitter in Tim Horton's tho.

About pic related, the noise sections are definitely a bit harsh.
For the real thing I'll be using
>A disgustingly good preamp
>FLAC source
>An actual tape deck
>Dolby B

And it should be totally listenable
>>
>>70688066
>>70688038

>>
>>70685261

Late Night Delight and every other dime-a-dozen Bandcamp vaporwave release gets put out on cassette because it's cheap/fast and because nobody from MJ's fucking record label is paying enough attention to stop them
>>
>>70688086

Father Stretch My Hands pt. 3 is seriously amazing and will probably be one of my favorite tracks of this year unless Mark Kozelek's album is better than benji

>#6 Plunderphonics

Wouldn't be if there wasn't so many anti-vaporwave retards on RYM

Macintosh Plus - Floral Shoppe is a masterpiece in plunderphonics as an example but there's too many faggots on RYM to understand this.
>>
>>70690522
this may bw true, but the album is hardly vaporwave only fsmh pt3
>>
>>70690603
yeah I know this isn't vaporwave, but vaporwave is definitely a sub-genre of vaporwave

Vaporwave is probably one of the best movements in plunderphonics and there is a far too many autists that downvote anything to do with vaporwave and its really brought down the ratings of vaporwave records that should be considered amongst the best within the canon of Plunderphonics.
>>
>>70690666
I mean vaporwave is definitely a sub-genre of Plunderphonics btw
>>
>>70690666
I don't know how much scorn this post will get but I legit think Eccojams Vol. 1 is a top 200 if not top 100 album
>>
>>70690684
mhm it is
>>
>>70690753
I agree, I was disappointed to see it drop out of the 2010 Top 100 but it is a plunderphonics masterpiece too. Now that a lot of comedy remix albums are getting praise from critics, hopefully we start seeing praise to minimally-edited, heavily-sampled but conceptually-charged music like vaporwave records. James Ferraro records also deserve more praise for this reason.

I was in the first thread but am now just checking back. What's the significance of the mcdonalds stuff on the first track?
>>
Ok just listening to this now.
6 minutes in I'm honestly impressed. This section sounds like, vaporwave-y plunderphonics, and everything up to this point's been pretty amazing really. Good job guys.

Just listening to this now... Does anyone know anything about the track that samples Devil in a New Dress? I've been obsessed with that song since I first heard it. I'd love to know anything about how the TDOP version was made
>>
>>70693585
I didn't work on the DIAND part specfically, but I'm the first 5 minutes of Ultralight Wall. what ya wanna know?
>>
>>70693623
Wow I really like your part as well. Mad, mad respect. I just wondered where he got the idea from. I love DIAND so much but I always felt that other people weren't as enthralled in that track as I was. I thought it had major potential to be sampled.

The sample used in DIAND itself is so awesome so to see someone now sample DIAND is really cool. It's like they made a song based on a sample, from a song based on a sample. Super neat.
>>
>>70693672
oh thanks so much! If I recall correctly someone posted the mcdonalds verse and everyone lo'd hard, so we someone got a track together to go with it. All threads are linked up there or in archive, so check the 1st or 2nd thread for the specifics. I remember it was one of the first things actually written for the project. And I agree, I really really like DIAND as well so it's awesome to hear it used really simply but effectively.

Track 4 of Father Stretch My Hands Pt 3...
You've got like a drum best going on a long crescendo, but there's this choppy, almost oscillating sound in the background. I have a hearing disorder but it sounds to me like a human voice chopped up and played many times a second?
Like someone saying "ohohohohohoh" really fast, albeit quietly of course. What the hell is that sound? Like I said I think it's a voice but I'm sure an analogue synth could make a similar timbre
>>
>>70693823
right, so that's from the same song originally sampled by FMSHPT1/2, and Ye uses the exact same bit I did. It's (looking at my ableton file now) got all the low end taken out, and is affected by a auto pan with a constantly shifting frequency rate, to give it weird harmonics while preserving the original sample. There's also some reverb, but not much. It cuts through surprsingly well even though the mix is loud as hell.
>>
>>70693927
OK cool, super interesting sound. I'm really interested in production but don't have the time, it's really cool to hear how your tracks were made. Thanks.
>>
>>70693963
no problem man, it's always lots of fun to talk production. glad you enjoyed the album
>>
>>70693981
Yeah I would go crazy doing that shit trying to perfect it. I used to do live sound for a while which worked because you're on a time limit so to speak. The band is gonna play and you have that much time to make them sound good. Pretty stressful and taxing shit tho. If a guy plugs into the wrong amp it becomes your fault lmao.

Anyway, if I sat down at a computer or an MPC 2k I would just sit for hours trying to perfect something and not be able to make something.
>>
Just wanted to say that this is a great album, good job u guys. AOTYSF
>>
>>70694074
you know that's how it usually is for me too, but when you're kinda assigned a topic to write for it's easier to interpret rather than create an idea from scratch. I still do that with my solo music but it's easier to get started this way. For me all my parts were just applications of my different personal styles to Ye, a normal beat, a weird post-rock build, some ambient pieces. Writers block sucks man, I totally get it. Also awesome you've done live sound, I'm so intimidated by that haha. I've done home studio work but nothing's like live sound, mad respect
>>
>>70694170
>post rock
Yeah yeah, was totally getting a lift your skinny fists vibe from the drum crescendo in father stretch my hands.
And yeah live music is a bitch. I wasn't involved in it for that long, just a few years. The people in that line of work are autistic cunts who have no idea how to communicate. I was practically a translator between my spergy coworker and the performers.

Like some girls would have a dance piece and my coworker tells them about how he's going to boost such and such frequencies through their monitor and apply some compression or whatever.
Like dude, just play the fucking track, increase the volume to they can hear it. It's a monitor. For dancers. They have no idea what "boosting the waveform around 200hz" means and they have no reason to care, baka.

How long have you been playing / making music for?
>>
>>70692514
No reference in this. I'm honestly starting to think we'll get a full video. I mean, what else has come out in the last week for him to review?
>>
>>70694257
ha, I was aiming for swans but it's kinda lost because I can't just scream "your name is FUCK' in a Ye remix track, but yeah general post-rock is what I was going for

BIG LOL, yeah, I mean there's unpleasant people in all areas of the music scene, but that + clubs makes it much I imagine. Taking music seriously also means you know when and where to give a shit, i.e. like you said, don't sperg out over the mixdown of a lil uzi vert track or whatever

I'm 19, and I started doing deadmau5 copy tracks when I was 12, so officially 7 years. I only really got in to forging a real original sound around 14 after I got into boards of canada. Been going steady ever since, played bass & drums in a phil elverum ripoff band a few years back, recorded local high school bands until I graduated. All I know is a combo of experimentation and reading reddit/gearslutz
>>
>>70694351
Cool, we're similar ages so mad respect for having that kind of talent so young. I'm a huge BoC fan, I've been considering picking up a synth to try and fuck around and emulate their sound but I literally do not have time or even the space to put any equipment
>>
>>70694379
oh I feel that. I got a rack synth and a few pedals and even that's hard to fit into a dorm. It's so worth it though. I was lucky enough to have a rich uncle get me a moog when I was 15 , and I can tell ya it's so beneficial to understanding everything about music, from mixing to recording, etc. but again, I'm one of the lucky ones. Glad to meet another BoC fan, they've been such a huge influence on me in every facet of my artistic being. Do you make music at all?
>>
>>70694430
I barely do. Me and a buddy down near by will occasionally get drunk and make shitty, pretentious tape experiments with my 4 track recorder and his guitars. It's nothing serious but we're both in pretty stressful programs so it's a good way to relax when we have the time. I really wish music programs in school just let kids fuck around and experiment with making some crazy shit, we'd probably have a lot more musicians
>>
>>70694483
nice having a 4 track, It's so refreshing to record old schoo, laptops hurt my eyes after a while. Luckily my major's pretty lecture-intensive so I don't have many papers/project, so my free time can be all music if I want to.

And you know, I totally agree. my high school wasn't like that at all, but I still would sneak around the band room and record all the instruments on my zoomh1 anyway because, well, fuck it I wanted to. Some of those drum sounds might have made it onto TDOP actually now that I think about it!

also tape is in the middle of going from over to underrated, so any tape experiments you do are guarenteed to be fucking awesome
>>

THIS ALBUM IS FUCKING SHIT

First of all, nobody outside the internet fucking cares about this shitty, childish project, and it is never going to get popular

The "I keep having this dream" meme is fucking played out, stupid and senseless, and may I add it sounds corny and childish as F U C K

You are all idiots wasting their time when you could be doing something of actual relevance with your life instead of sucking an artist's dick by SAMPLING HIS MUSIC

HOW CAN YOU NOT REALIZE HOW SAD THIS SHIT IS?!

This looked cool, but I have to say I was underwhelmed. Pretty meh. Not that high on the list of best /mu/ made albums. Well done for all the effort though, still hope Fantano mentions it on It Came From Bandcamp

>>
Pretty boring desu.

And I find the fact of coalescing the short tracks into 17 minute monoliths with silence between them really shitty senpai.
>>
>>70697776
Good luck, anon. Hope you can power through it and get some well-deserved rest.
>>
As some one who worked on the album i think we do need to stop over exaggerating this, all those high ratings are from /mu/tants, given to the public i doubt it would be too well recieved and if Fantano does review it (which he wont in a full video) i doubt it would be too positive. It's a cool project that turned out well but we cant get too big headed

But seeing as it was made disjointedly in a few days with 16 people with the pieces being pushed together it is impressive, would like to see what you all can do on a longer time frame
>>
Objectively inferior to every Meme Friends and Hanging Dong album
>>
>>70698308
we're just celebrating an outcome we absolutely didnt expect senpai, no harm in that

It sounds great for what it is, but Yeezy isn't going to be listening to this, the public isn't going to pick up in this. It was made in a few days for Christ sakes, it wasn't in development by a bunch of maestros for over a decade. It was made by fucking mutants

so

454 - 200 = 254 downloads since the buying of new downloads

total purchases I made for the free downloads
