an arpeggio is a broken chord. the 7th arpeggios you see in that picture include the 7th note of the scale, and are the same as a broken 7th chord. all the notes in an arpeggio are in the scale, because all the notes in a chord are in the scale and only for that reason. i find it useful to practice both 7th arpeggios and arpeggios with just the 1, 3, and 5
>>
>>70426310
they're a chord with 3 notes. a chord is defined as having at least 3 notes playing at once, so triads are the smallest chords
>>
Hey guys. I literally just bought a guitar and I'm tuning it. I managed to tune every string except for the second to last, which sounds off to me. My tuner says it's tuned to B but it sounds a little weird and isn't as taut as the other strings. Is it fucked?

I haven't played one in years but I remember them having really cheap necks that you find on the cheapest made in china guitars. It's like they're made to look nice but are much cheaper in build quality.

chinese mafia type group.

triads are 3 notes.

so a major triad is made up of these intervals

1-3-5.

so if you wanted to play a D major chord you would first check the D major scale to see what notes is in it.

D E F# G A B C#
1 2 3 4 5 6 7

take the first one(D) third(F#) and the fifth(A) and you've got yourself a major triad.

heres where the fun begins.

you could stick a 7(C# note in this case) on that major triad and make it a major 7th chord. cool huh?

Also, tune the B to the G string's B (4th fret) if it's an octave low, you'll know. Unless the G is low, too.

Well, the factory was cutting hours and shit. The boss guy goes around undercoverbbwith employees, they tell them usual sob stories about thier lives and woes so ya feel bad. One guy tells him he has another job lined up, needs to quit. At the end guy takes off disguise. Tells people how happy they are to have dedicated employees. Promises them bonuses, raises, etc. Part that killed me is they convinced the one guy not to leave, promising him these things. Then they FF 3 months or whatever, never delivered anything they promised. Guy missed out opportunity on new job cuz he stayed at peavey and everything and they were going to close the particular factory they shot it in. When they asked the boss guy wtf, he said "they can't afford it, that's business"

I put a piece of card on the strings by the bridge and played percussively with a whammy bar. It's weird as fuck, but it's already been done. At least the card-mute thing has, I added in the percussive playing for good measure. True innovation is nearly impossible by now

Yeah, the main whammy-percussion track is on the left, I did a 'lead' attempt on the right playing with a pick

Here's the same sounds but with some simple pentatonic stuff, kind of playing into the oriental feel of the timbre:

regarding this: >>70424866

You actually can play a bass in classical guitar position easily. It's just a matter of holding it at around a 45 degree angle. Reach is not an issue. I always play this way seated. I started doing it this way because when I play standing I prefer to have the bass at that angle as it reduces left arm fatigue, at least for me. The classical guitar seated position allows bass to be at same angle I play standing up and roughly same position in relation to both arms.
>>
>>70428621

in reply to this: >>70424919
>>
>>70428621
When i decide to play my bass i hold it classical seated position. But generally only play shit like 7th fret upward. Dunno why. Maybe because i usually just play guitar parts on it, or make up meal/doom riffs like a guitar part. Throw the low open notes in to make big low booms and shit. sounds kinda neat i guess.

As for the percussive whammy bar, just loosely whack the strings with it and let it bounce sometimes.

you could totally play chords but incorporate your little twiddely bits as well.
Frappuccino does this a lot(as you probably know)

this means that you could get them melodic notes but also have the base chords there which means you can play it by yourself instead of having to record 2 different tracks consisting of chords and riffs.

You just need to set goals on what you want to achieve and do drills to improve your technique, identify what you want to learn and learn it. And if you're going to learn songs then learn all of it and not just snippets of it, memorizing songs is sometimes harder than actually playing them.

It took me years of playing until I actually realized what I wanted to play, before that I was just noodling around, and when I started doing drills every day I got over the plateau I was stuck on almost immediately.

>>
>>70434586
No him but Fleetwood Mac's Rumours is composed of tracks with barely more than 4 chords
>>
>>70434586
hmm, let's see:

1. Tik Tok by Kesha (3 chords the entire song)

2. The Sign by Ace of Base

3. Walk Like An Egyptian by the Bangles

4. Call Me by Blondie

5. Just Dance by Lady GaGa

the list LITERALLY goes on, and these are just the ones from the top of my head.
>>
>>70434586
Serious dude? most top 40 hits are 4 chords
>>
hey m8s, I'm playing western guitar and I'm thinking about getting a loop pedal to play record chords and then solo over it. My guitar has a pickup built in, if I want to use a loop pedal, do I need an amp? (I know this question is probably retarded)
>>
>>70434930
yeah you need an amp.

the pickup will "pickup" the vibrations and oscillations from the string and transfer it through the cable, first to the looper pedal then onward to the amp.

Not exactly ON the mesa, just two heads on top of each other. I highly recommend both amps, the TA-15 is great if you need some versatility and low wattage options with the ability to get fucking loud, and the Bassbreaker 7W is fantastic.

the con is that both amps have no effects loop or reverb, but I run everything into the front of my amps anyways, leave it JUST barely on the verge of break up and let pedals shine through.

Old school thrash/black and minimalist clean improv stuff.

No pedals or effects. I run straight into a tube amp and use the drive on that. I need pickups that won't buzz so loud on the bridge position.

First, we have the feisty little, dual humbucker, Bullet Mustang. With a ‘C’ shaped neck with a rosewood fretboard, medium jumbo frets, and a six, saddle hardtail bridge. A little guitar with a big, big sound! Comes in Imperial Blue, or Black FOR ONLY $149.99!
Part of the Affinity Series comes a dual humbucker Jazzmaster. Stripped back to a master volume and tone, with a simple 3-way selector switch and a six, saddle hard tail bridge, this fat sounding offset keeps it uncomplicated to find your tone. Choose between Arctic White and Black. $199.
There are two models of Deluxe Jazzmaster. One with a stop tail bridge and one with a standard Jazzmaster tremolo. Both come in Candy Apple Red with gold anodized aluminum pickguards, authentic sounding Jazzmaster single coils, and a comfortable, satin finished, maple neck. Probably the most affordable way to get into that classic sound. $399.99.
Lastly is a glorious Vintage Modified Baritone Jazzmaster. Loaded with a pair of JM-101 single coils, a fixed top loader bridge, it comes in all black with matching headstock – it’s sure to turn heads with both it’s tone and looks. $449.99.

There's this national brand's all-tube head that has a Bright/Deep switch, when it's turned to Deep, the EQ is turned off and it acts like the Gain channel.

Why the fuck would they design the amp so that the EQ is turned off in one of the channels? Seems fishy to me. Really makes me think...

I was in this exact situation 2 weeks ago and did a lot of googling about this

THE standard is The Real Book
There used to be an illegal version of this (artists didn't get money from the sales) but the sixth version is completely legal

many people complain about songs not being in the sixth edition anymore but it's pretty much the standard nowadays

so I recommend buying the 6th edition of the real book to study (easier to read, less mistakes) and take it to jams and download the 5th (the last illegal) edition to print out any songs that are missing

you can download vol 1, 2 and 3 of the 5th edition here http://www.swiss-jazz.ch/partitions-real-book.htm

Sup guys. Just bought an SX Short Scale Jazz Bass.

Has anyone tried Wilkinson JB pickups? Is it worth swapping them in for the stock ones?

Also, other than the link in the OP, can you recomend me some good bass lessons/books/tutorials.

I wanna learn how to slap like it's 1970.
