Does anybody use Eb standard as their main tuning? Thinking about making the switch from E standard, it sounds much cooler and the string tension is perfect with 10-46 on 25.5 inch guitars. Only problem is jamming with other people and playing covers and I can't be assed to change the tuning back and forward since my main guitar has a trem and the only other guitar I have is a hardtail I keep in drop C with 10-52s on

Retarded design, or pre set eq for the gain channel maybe, or cost cutting/space saving when they couldnt figure out how to use the same eq for both channels, or because it's called "dark" they dont want you to be able to brighten it up(treble or whatever at zero). Could also be that there is a volume drop during the gain stage and that coupled with the volume drop of a passive tone stack make it a noticeable drop.

All those point to retarded design. I mean, some amps and pedals will give an option to bypass a tone stack, but it's not a requirement. Could also be a stupid ginmick.
>>
>>70441572
Meh, I use that guitar to dick around with different tunings on since I keep my main guitar in E standard, I just gravitate towards drop C or open C most of the time to play Devin Townsend songs with

The black one against the wall is a schecter hellcat vi, a 6 string fender bassvi ripoff because I like to ape robert smith sometimes, one day I'll have a real bass vi

i went to the guitar store today because i'm looking to get a new guitar sometime in the near future, a guy who worked there was a straight up asshole when i asked if i could play one of their guitars. it was cheap as shit too, it was "$500" but "marked down" to $300. it felt cheap so i probably wouldn't have bought it anyways, but he was super angry when i asked if i could plug it in to an amp and play. is that normal? i ended up just leaving because he was an asshole

just realised I didn't answer your question. Jazzmaster cost me about 1500 from Japan at the time, spent more modding it. The tele I spent about 2k on. It's a legit guitar, but my jazzmaster is my absolute right hand man.

The tele I actually bought for my gf to have a small snuggly electric to play on, I don't use it much unless I'm testing wacky tunings and don't want to fuckup the jazz

Feels and sounds like a strat. Those are single coils, despite how they look. Nice chunky neck and feel, problem mainly is I play very excitedly and it's easy for some knob adjustments to get messed up. However, for people who are less energetic, this is far easier overcome. fantastic tone for some nice blues, and garage rock, I can see why Jack White likes his. I'll probably grab the red 2p or even the jetsons model sometime, as this one technically isn't mine.

I prefer my MBC-1 for playing, just in overall feel. You debating about buying an Airline/Eastwood? Or just curious?

if you're literally playing with 5 strings, I would personally toss the book aside.

my recommendation for the very earliest stages of playing is to not even attempt to 'learn' anything.

just fuck around on the neck. write a simple little melody by stringing 3,4 notes together in a sequence. maybe combine two strings and give that go. lay your finger flat over a fret, which strings sound good, which ones sound bad? trial and error.

I used to 'write' songs without even knowing a single goddamn chord. But I just knew music from so many years of listening, and could tell right away what worked and what didn't. Obviously you'll be at a loss after a couple hours and will want to know how things actually work, but part of becoming an artist is ignoring everything and just speaking through the guitar and forcing it to sound like something.

Anything even remotely resembling music at this point is a good thing! Have fun.
>>
Okay so I plan on getting new strings for both my basses (MIM Fender P Bass & MIM Fender Deluxe P Bass Special - an active bass).

I know for the passive P I want to put a set of LaBella Deep Talking flats on them to get that motown/soul sound, but am unsure of what gauge size to get.

For the Deluxe P I want something that will be brighter for slap and pop, funk music, but still allow me to stay in the pocket and be grooving.

I've never bought bass strings before; having only play on the production strings from factory (which what are they?) so any and all advice is appreciated.
>>
>>70446868
Have you tried no strings yet? It gives you all the sound of the bassist, but you don't have to worry about strings and rust.

Anyway, I don't really play with people, let alone a drummer. Are you memeing with that comment or being serious? there practically is no difference, easier to think of inversions as an element of voicing where you intentionally change the lowest note.

better example of voicing would be Cmaaj7 at the third, you can play

X 3 5 5 5 7

which is CGCEB with the B an octave higher

pretty much.

The defining feature of a 1st inversion is having the 3rd in the bass and a 2nd inversion it 5th in bass.

x 3 x 0 x 0 is still a root position C triad

0 x x 0 x 8 is a first inversion C

x x x 0 13 12 is 2nd inversion C

I've been trying to memorize what notes are where on the fretboard and I think that If I spends some time fiddling around with voicings I'll speed that process up a ton, simply because I'll actually apply the knowledge of where a note is to a concrete thing(chords) instead of just saying "Ok. fret 7, G string, D note" to myself.
>>

who are the two pretty girls over the Peavey head?
>>
>>70448656
voicing and inversion are synonymous. look at a piano keyboard. you can voice/invert the chord different ways by playing c4 e4 g4, or maybe e4 g4 c5, or g3 c4 e4, etc.

often people will play 7th chords across two octaves. like c4 g4 e5 b5. different stuff like that.

somebody's memeing you if they tell you otherwise.

Learning scales would be much simpler
>>
>>70448282
>such as?
learning to play individual notes
>>
>>70449179
Yeah, learning chord theory on the guitar takes a LONG time because the different interval between the G and B strings breaks up any regular patterns across the strings. When you get to know what notes make up a chord and where the notes are all over the fretboard, that's when you really start to find voicings all over the place.
>>
>>70449224
as i understand inversions are just putting the chord in different order from root 3rd and 5th, voicings are how the notes are spread across the octaves
>>

You can play barre chords right? You already know what voicing is then.
>>

ive been using Eb standard as my main tuning on one of my guitars for like two years now. its good times. for the record my other guitar is tuned to drop D
>>
>>70449697
i always slacked on learning the fretboard notes. i've done a lot of work memorizing the intervals though. turned out to not be so bad that i did that since now i use C standard tuning. all the intervals are the same, but the notes are different

Pretty sure the person on the left is a dude, Denny Laine, the chick on the right is Linda McCartney, Paul is offscreen. It was from a Wings album I have

Man those things are some of my favorites too, I think I'll pick one up eventually, they're pretty cheap as far as airlines go.

Is a voicing The three notes/strings you barre when forming the F chord shape or the 3 notes you fret when playing the E chord shape? I'm going to assume it's the first one since there was mention of 1-3-5

>>70449807
For me all I know are the E and A strings with a bit scattered on the other 4. I bet there's some type of "cheat" to memorize all the notes in a Key or just manually learning them key by key
>>

Played one in a high end shop that Carries a large selection and paired it with a 4x10 Deville and it was amazing. I might consider selling my Epiphone V for one but the Twin Tone is Chinese and neck feels glossy and the body is a bit uncomfortable
>>
>>70448326

inversions = stack the notes in the chord in a different order

voicing = theres like 100 different places on the neck to play a given chord, choose one to best suit what youre doing
>>
>>70450040
when i played in e standard the 3, 5, and 7 frets were the easiest to remember. then the 8 and 10. it also helps to be able to know what position is an octave up from one string to the next. i'm doing wild arpeggio variations now which is helping with that
>>
>>70450082
Glossy neck can be fixed but yeah the body looks uncomfortable. I trust some Chinese guitars honestly myself, I've had some good experiences with them, but I can see definitely not wanting to go for it.
>>
>>70450040
voicing is simply the same exact note/s played in a different way, in our case a different position on the fretboard.
>>
>>70450153
Since you play lower now do you "transfer" your thinking? As in "oh I'm supposed to play 5 frets lower if I want a B." I'll try the 3-5-7 frets and all notes and use them as references to learn the notes below and above them. I just know the octaves on the E, D and G strings

Oh so I can barre some notes at the 5th feet then play those same notes differently (not barred but in a shape) at let's say the 10th fret?
>>
>>70449320
how do you change the order within the octave? there is only one of each note per octave.

Recently traded a fender modern player tele that had god awful electronics for this old airline branded harmony bobkat
it plays pretty good for what it is and has a trustod which is cool. the single pickup sounds better then all the pickups on the tele did.
