can anyone recommenda newfag a pedal for metal bass? i did a little research and was considering a fuzz, overdrive or distortion.
>>
Aight so I've got a cheap shit bbe fuzz pedal th sounds shit with any reverb or delay, WHICH IS TERRIBLE because the only other pedals I have are a digitech delay and a dl4. I use the overdrive on my peavey classic 30 amp but that ain't cutting it plz no laff

So I got $300 amazon bucks. Thinking about getting a fulltone OCD bc at this point it's a meme that seems real and fuck I'm falling for it.

Also thinking about getting a zvex fat fuzz factory.

Am I stupid for comboing these two? Or should I switch the fuzz factory with a EH soul food?

No one denies tonewoods make a difference on acoustic instruments.

It's electric guitars where the difference is negligible.

>>
>>69819445
Science proves "wood changes as it gets old" and "stradivari used some mineral treatment".
Nothing to do with how that changes the sound precisely. Nothing to do either with the tonewood debate on electrical guitars.
The article is also particularily subjective and draws conclusions out of nowhere, the study itself is much more objective.

Can anyone tell me about the brand "stadium" for electric guitars? Pic related. From what I can see, it has a three tone sunburst body, red tortoise shell pick guard, white knobs, unknown material for the pickups, tremolo style bridge, a vintage tint gloss 1 piece maple neck & fretboard, with Grover brand name tuners. I bought this guitar in 2010 from a small time shop - aside from what I've shared I know else about it. Thanks
>>
>>69819684
>In their current state, maples in Stradivari violins have very different chemical properties compared with their modern counterparts, likely due to the combined effects of aging, chemical treatments, and vibrations.
That has nothing to do with even the tonal proprieties of the wood even, we're just looking at the cell walls and how different they are between shavings from a recent piece of maple and shavings from stradivari.

Building two almost identical acoustic guitars with different woods proves wood has an influence on the sound. Not this study, it's comparing maple against maple for christ's sake
>>
>>69819730
Random asian strat knock off, probably from a factory's over stock or they got in trouble with fender and they "stopped" but really just changed names.
>>
>>69819763
Yeah in other words tone wood is real
>>
>>69819766
Thanks - a few more questions for you if you don't mind. Do you happen to know this style is knocking off? E.g. 60s, vintage modified, etc. Also, is this a guitar to gig with or just a bedroom player in your opinion?
>>
>>69819363
just try and build on them. for example, you can use the first riff as the intro, use the second riff as a main riff and the verse, then find some chords that work for a pre-chorus and chorus, repeat the first part then maybe come back to the first riff, do a guitar solo, go back to the chorus after the solo and end on the first or second riff.

it's just a matter of experimentation, listening to music to understand the structures of songs and practice, songwriting is like anything else that needs to be practiced.

also the second riff is kind of drawn out, make it shorter and more to the point like the first riff
>>
>>69819269
OCD is a very good overdrive pedal. Nearly everything Mike Fuller makes is a solid and useful pedal. and his TTE (tube tape echo) is one of the best echoplex style delays ever made.

The Zvex fuzz factory would be my choice over the EH soul food. the fuzz factory is a LOT of fun, and you can spend days just exploring the various textures and tones you can get from that fuzz.

ps; Peavy Classic 30 is a decent amp - I could gig with one of those anytime, and HAVE gigged with them when they showed up as backline amps. it's a better amp than most of the under $300 stuff at GC or Sam Ash....

Me. Bassist. Much better tone. I don't like the standard roundwound sound on bass at all.

Also i think if you ever plan to use a pick you should use flats always for that application. For slap a lot of people like round steels for the clear POP sound, but i think the thunky sound of slap on flats is underrated. It's much more percussive and less obnoxiously uh, zingy, in a full band mix.

I feel you. I'm in an alternative band. I usually use flats for recording purposes. But in the live setting, I like the punch and zingyness. Cuts through a bit more and gives more of a hit. Godin does a lot of the pre assembly work for martin guitars while also making some beautiful guitars themselves.

Useful bass pedals:

>compressor (if you're only going to buy one buy this)
>A/B switch so you always have control of the wet/dry mix to maintain low end regardless of other effects
>some kind of OD or fuzz

Effects that sound good on bass:
>octaver or whammy
>synth/sub synth
>envelope filter
>some kind of delay

Chorus/phaser/reverb and even wah are best used to augment the above if you wish. I don't like any of these on their own.
>>
>>69823826
>Effects that sound good on bass:
>>octaver or whammy
>>synth/sub synth

These are very dependant on the context, I wouldn't use an enveloppe filter for 90% of metal for example.
Also in my opinion, reverb on bass sounds like ass most of the time, the low end will mud up and the high end isn't so interesting as it is on a guitar.

Improves coordination between both hands. It worked for me as a kid.
Just don't push it too hard, remember your priority is real guitar and not the game.
Also don't get the new one with 3x2 buttons, that will only teach you to never use your pinky, so get the old one with five buttons.

you've been playing for 11 years and this is what you brag about? is this all presets or something? are you just now learning how to produce music or something? it's quite painful to listen to. your bends need a lot of work and you should learn how to use vibrato properly. still better than most of the garbage that gets posted in these threads.

>what part of sound production do you feel you're having the most trouble with?
1.- Making drums sound real and with a heavy style. Like I said I use shitty midi drums because I can't afford Superior Drummer 2 right now and I can't play drums for shit.

2.- Making my bass sound clear without it distorting the whole song and making it become ear rape

3.- Mixing the guitar tracks so neither the lead track or rhythm track sound too muddy but not too bright either

Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rYsGCY4ftU
This is my audio quality goal.

Also

1. have you considered getting a torrent of SD2? i use that for drums as well. keep in mind that while the samples are better than what you're used to, it requires a lot of work to get them to sound realistic. in other words, don't expect it to sound professional out of the box.

2. are you applying any EQ to your bass guitar? if so, could you provide your settings? your bass guitar could be affecting your mix in a number of ways. based on that track you posted earlier in the thread, i can definitely hear your instruments are fighting for space. i can barely hear the kick drum over the bass guitar, so you want a good tip i learned years ago? this applies mostly to metal or heavy rock mixes, but do a narrow boost of the kick drum at 70 Hz. when you EQ the bass guitar, do a narrow cut at 70 Hz. fucking magic.

3. which brings us to this topic. when all of your instruments are occupying the same frequencies, the end result is a wall of sound. there are countless tutorials on the basics of EQ and compression on youtube. PLEASE look into that because it's the only way your mixes will start to sound better.

the production is quite nice in that video you posted. i like how high you set your goal.

You shouldn't even be playing guitar if you can't play over 250 bpm after a month

>I can't play drums for shit.
drums literally are the easiest instrument. they're so intuitive

I can play single notes at that speed

Whats /gg/'s opinion on Warmoth? Considering making a custom flying V or something instead of buying a Gibson/Jackson.

They're only good for fender replacement parts

and even those aren't fender spec

just know the the overall value of the guitar is what you can sell the individual pieces for if you want to get rid of it.

that said, you can easily build a higher quality instrument for less than buying something and modding it with custom specs (ie: this shape, these duncans, black with maple or whatever).

getting any parts used and doing some stuff your self for the final build goes a long way (get a used body and paint it yourself).

I can't do it. Not even a little. I can do basic beats with my hands, but the foot comes in.. i jugs can't. I couldn't even do the beginning training thing in the rockband vidya game
>>
>>69829404
really? that's weird, i was able to play most basic stuff when i got my first kit. but i've been practicing my air drumming for years (i'm not being sarcastic, it's a great way to practice)

since i know where the parts of the kits are, i just practice my coordination with air drumming

you should keep at it though drums are super fun

tbqh rockband is pretty good to learn basic coordination

Yeah. I felt like a retard. Everyone could do it besides me. Even my gf. Worst part was the songs i could play on a guitar i couldn't on the game. I ended up singing when i got drunk. Funny part is, i can't sing either. But the game said i was spot on. I think it's more of a timing thing than pitch with that. I mean, it must be

Good quality necks. I bought one two years back and it holds up.
Bought a fender custom body on ebay to go with it.
