these bands use kempers live and some even on the album. do they do it just for the sake of advertising?? If they truly sounded like shit they wouldn't use them live. are you really that fucking dense?
You're just buttblasted because you probably saw your favorite act live and thought they were playing "real" amps but guess what, they probably weren't and if they were its only a matter of time before they switch.

Some artists like herman li even prefer kempers because they're more reliable tubes need maintenance.

Look at axefx artists too anon posted. world class acts. People that have been playing for decades and toured the world.

You know nothing kid.

>>
>>69756290
so its all a conspiracy then? all these artist just say they use the equipment live because they have to but in reality they hide a marshall stack behind the profiling shit and play through real amps? get over yourself

Word of warning, such a cheap guitar might put you off all of them. I've heard good things about the Pacifica though that said.

Reposting cause everyone is just ass-blasted about amp sims in the last one:

I'm planning on fixing up my old Epiphone SG and sticking it into B standard. The problem is it has shit pickups. What would you guys recommend for playing that low? I've no idea where to start. Looking for it to be compatible with high-gain amp settings.

Thats old first of all. show me one where they have a cardboard kemper in front and a valve head behind it.
You can't.
Watch any live rig rundown video of big bands recently and you'll see a lot of them using modeling.

Better yet, don't believe me ask a guitar tech that works for some bands. The tech guy has no reason to lie.
>>
>>69756443
>you'll see a lot of them using modeling.
tends to be metal bands though doesnt it? but yeah, they're definitely becoming more common live
>>
>>69756453
Metal tends to be the genre where guitarists are actually open to change. Guitarists are by and large stupid traditionalists. Bassists have been using solid state solutions for ages now. Hopefully as the technology gets cheaper, it'll get more and more adopted, perhaps with a move away from modeling and more of a focus on unique SS sounds.
>>
>>69756453
Lots of metal guys yes. Which is crazy to me because high gain is the hardest thing to model. Even line 6 spider has nice sounding cleans but when you put the distortion on you can hear the fizzy digital fakeness of it all.

metalheads are also very particular about their tones
If its good enough for them I guess it must be pretty damn good.
>>
>>69756466
Nah man, it's either modern bands or old bands that have been making the same shit for 30 years now who are using modelling stuff
>>
>>69756466
this is true. Just look at gibson, why no cutaway access heel in 2017?? Least ergonomic guitars out there because of tradition
>>
>>69756466
ive long liked SS amps. theyres just fewer that companies built with being good in mind instead of being cheaper than tubes ergo there are less good ones out there but the good ones are fantastic
>>
>>69756479
I'm looking at it from the general pop perspective. Most touring bands use them, but blues dads and teenagers still think tube amps are the ideal thing.

>>69756481
Get an SG. They're like les pauls but more comfortable.

>>69756489
You're right. I think Orange did a great job with the CR120. I a/b it against an RV50 and it sounded wonderful for 1/5th the price.

I'd prefer SS amps do things that valve amps cannot do and define their own unique character and sound rather than try and copy something. It's like keyboardists who play with the same basic piano or organ samples.

I was going to troll on like a boss but Google has scrubbed away all the pics of the Lynyrd Skynyrd fake cabs that were used when they were sponsored by Peavey a few years ago.

All jokes aside music is nowhere near as relevant as the shit happening in politics and tech right now. The fact that Lynyrd Skynyrd can erase something slightly embarrassing from Google images is a seriously bad omen if you're opposed to the perceived reality they're trying to create with this kind of information control/manipulation.

Usually I'd stay and torture you newfag autists for a few hours but I'm caring less and less about this frivolous, shitty ass distraction.

Can computers analyze which notes are being played if you plug your guitar into an interface? I can image it's pretty simple if you only play single notes but how about if you play multiple notes at once? Is this possible in real time?

It would be cool if you could plug your guitar into an interface and play some a kind of simple guitar hero game with a real guitar.

>Metal tends to be the genre where guitarists are actually open to change.
Change in gear, not in sound/composition
See thrash metal (and no, Vektor doesn't do anything new, they're not the first ones to do tech/prog thrash), Raw/True Black metal, Old School Death Metal.
>>
>>69757361
>Do guitarists use several kinds of picks or just stick to one?
Most people stick to one, maybe changing between acoustic/electric
>Is it ok to switch it frequently?
Yeah, but most people get used to one, and changing makes it harder to play generally
>Wht are the best for the different picking techniques?
Lighter is generally best for strumming, and heavier is better for single note stuff. If you want more attack use heavier ones. Different materials feel different and have a slight difference in tone but that's up to your ears. It's also how you pick, and how much wrist vs forearm you put into it.

I use felt or gator picks for bass, tortex for more metal/rock stuff on guitar, and Fender picks for more folky stuff. I avoid nylon like the plague, but some people love it.

Ultex for rock/metal/bluesy stuff, great sharp attack.
Celluloid for jazz/acoustic as it gives a slightly softer attack. Fender taco chips.

There is no best picking technique, the closest is the one that you develop on a firm footing of good technique.

My guess is because a thicker finish is easier to work with/sand out imperfections, they're making these quickly so there's no time to make a thin finish that you have to be careful with. It does protect the wood better but for me it makes the necks feel more like plastic, nothing wrong with it just a matter of taste.

2k seems excessive to some guitarists because they have to pay for things like amplifiers and pedals and shit. If you get a 4k acoustic violin you don't need to spend money on anything else. The other reasons why guitarists complain about price is that they use multiple guitars. The average violinist won't have 3 different violins in different tunings or set up for different styles. Also the construction of electric guitars isn't as critical as acoustic instruments since the pickups and amp contribute so much to the sound. So manufacturing costs are lower and guitarists expect the prices to reflect that. But yeah, I agree with you that guitarists are cheapskates but they have their reasons.

not sure what you like, but i've always wanted a wine red LP

Btw this is not a les Paul.
It's a special model ii. Not even worth $100

Stop telling people this. It's better if you just let them live in ignorance. Fucked me up when I realized this was true.

It wears down the highlighted wire due to polarity
It's best to keep it in neutral so they cancel each other out
>>
i have money burming a hole in my pocket. what do i save for? a guitar or amp?
>>
>>69759551
Forgot to reply last thread but cheers for the comments on the Flashback. I'm after a versatile delay and being able to use a good pseudo-chorus/reverb sound along with a looper for practice purposes is making it a tempting choice.
>>
>>69764665
It's pricey but IMO worth the cash, it's Christmas anon, treat yourself

Hey dude, check out JustinGuitar.

As for holding it; the "click" moment for me was when i stopped holding it like a 2000 year old vase and just grabbed the fucking thing real hard.

oh no, a 2$ and thirty minute worth of soldering piece of equipment
how will I ever replace it

the fender solid state amps are ok. They tend to be a little under powered sounding IMO: you may not be able to get this amp loud enough to compete with a rock drummer without getting solid state distortion .

The overdrive on these amps I've never cared for but you may like it. These amp to my ear seem to work best for getting jazzy and country tones. Think 80s pristine clean sounds.

Also, you may find the reverb on the amp to be disappointing. If you can try before you buy, I would suggest that.

They do make for a good practice amp tho snd are pretty light weight and portable.

I really want an upright bass but I neither have the room or the money.
Can a fretless bass a good substitute for the same kind of applications ? I know it's not tonally the exact same thing, and the playing is completely different, but it seems to be the closest option.
>>
looking for a decent, cheap (ballbark of 600 bucks) fretless 5 or 6 string bass

mostly for prog metal or melodeath (eg cynic, death, obscura)

any suggestions? don't say "kill yourself" because I will
>>
>>69765078
why don't you get one of them electric upright basses like les claypool plays nowadays?

no idea how they cost but all you really need is vertical space. they're no wider than the average electric.
>>
>>69765078
Try looking for electric uprights, saw a guy playing one about a month ago. No body chamber so it was thin.

EUB are pretty much the same prices as UB, aside from super cheap chinese ones I wouldn't trust.
If I had the money sure, I'd even go for a 5 stringed NS like he has, but if I had money I wouldn't be asking questions.
Also the local listings on craigslist for basses and classical instruments are next to non-existant here.
>>
>>69765203
well I don't know if I'd bother with a cheap acoustic upright either. heard players say on multiple occasions that they're universally shit.

maybe this faggot can help you

Take a Schecter P copy, rip out the frets, fill with wood filler and sand. You got what you want in 2 or 3 days tops.
>>
>>69765231
A cheap resonance chamber may sound more authentic than cheap circuitry on a piezo.
That faggot's not helping me though, he's part of the reason I want to go low. (that and the huge demand for bassists in my city)

This is why I always recommend people not to strip their poly finished guitars and just spray a new color over the old finish.

Might as well keep going now, but it's going to look like shit. Try the Heat Gun Method.
>>
>>69765203
I had no idea about pricing, interesting.

Hey /gg/ im long due with my guitar practice and right now im learning how chords are built up and all that jazz with 1 - 3 - 5's, and i have a question.

I'm wondering if a root note has to be the lowest note in the chord or if i can say have a C chord but the E is actually the lowest note pitch in the chord.
>>
>>69765311
>I'm wondering if a root note has to be the lowest note in the chord or if i can say have a C chord but the E is actually the lowest note pitch in the chord.
Look up inversions, that's basically what you're describing, if you're playing a C chord, but from the E, you're playing its first inversion, if it was G, then it would be the second inversion, in that case there's no third inversion since after G you're going back onto C.

I am using a heat gun. Next is sanding. I don't really care what it comes out looking like but thanks for the advice/heads up. This is probably the only time I'll do a refinish
>>
>>69764520
nigger do you even Fender?

Strat on neck pickup + Fender tube amp = Sweet Home Alabama tone

A little too round for my taste, but it feels like comfort food
>>
>>69764277
Had a friend in HS do this to his black Les Paul Custom. I think he wanted to make it a sunburst or something. He gave up on it and just stored it away in it's case. Tried to get him to sell it to me but he wouldn't.

Electrics usually sound better acoustically with no finish, of course once you plug up, it doesn't matter.

Just sand the hell out of it. Depressions can be lifted out with water on a paper towel. Let the water soak in then sand.

Anyone have a good progression route for a budding guitarist? I got through with justinguitar's beginner course, and I don't know where to go from here.
