I posted at the end of the last thread so i'll ask again
Super noob question here, so today I got a Boss DD-3 that i ordered a few days ago. It was used and came with no power adapters so I used a spare that had the same volts, when I plugged the pedal in it made a horrible feedback thing on my amp and so I turned it off to try to fix the problem. When I went back to test the pedal gain and had everything plugged in the pedal would not turn on and now I get no response for it. What should I do?

I have the Boss DS-2 which is pretty classic, get the DS-2 over the DS-1 as they're identical but the DS-2 adds the option to add some extra mids to your tone, you can also get one pretty cheap second hand

If you have more cash the DOD Boneshaker is pretty brutal sounding

Another classic is the tube screamer, some people also recommend the Blues Driver but I think its a little light

If that's a picture of the actual guitar, it looks like it's in good shape, but there's no telling if the frets, truss rod, tuners and electronic work if you haven't tried it.
One neck pickup is tonally limiting, and the lack of an adjustable bridge makes for shitty intonation and action.

You would think metal guitarists would need a "real" valve amp more than most other styles because of how absolutely shitty digital high gain sounds.

So if anything that just reinforces the point

>>69747872
Not used the 4x one, nor can I say I've used many different delay pedals, but I can say that I am very impressed with the Flashback, it was pricey but comes with loads of different modes and options, I do think that setting any of the knobs even a little based 12 o'clock does tend to make the pedal dominate over any other effect you many have on at the time, but otherwise its a very versatile box of tricks

I love my x4 but it has it's flaws. The digital knobs are all squishy and the toneprint app is a bit shite. I'd love if the looper was more capable of glitching stuff out like the line6 but it's pretty sensible. Mind I have the Alter Ego, so ymmv.

As far as any electronics, if they are polar sensitive (look at the plug, is it keyed so it only goes into the socket one way?) , if you reverse it, it could destroy the board... Usually by burning it... So stick your nose in there and smell. If it's smells burnt, the problem is you switched polarities by accident.
>>
>>69747872
>>69747933
Quick follow up, there is one thing that drives me insane about the flashback, the switch you press to activate the pedal is soft, there is no solid click to let you know the pedal is on, I know thats personal preference but ever other pedal on my board click when activated apart from that one
>>
>>69747996
Impressive technique but it gave me a headache and didn't sound great.
>>
>>69748028
Doesn't bother me because the lights are usually pretty good feedback, but I can defiantly see how this would bug the shit out of someone else. Switches are a big complaint on TC pedals.
>>
>>69747996
Sorry to say lad but this anon is right >>69748043
>>
>>69748043
>>69748062
Why would you think the technique is impressive but not enjoy the performance? Technique means nothing and it's not even what I think about when I am playing. Maybe you should drink more water, it helps with headaches. Stay healthy my friends,
>>
>>69748060
Its weird, because it such a minor thing, but the fact its the only one on my board that does that, it makes it standout and I'll forever second guess myself when using it, and it's odd that TC would go against the industry when they know that it will only serve to not phase some customers but will actively annoy others, still, I'm sure I can come to terms with it
>>
How the hell do people play electric slide so cleanly? Try to play as deft as possible but still get horrible string buzz and off-pitches.
>>
>>69748008
It never smoked or burned, I even checked its battery and it seems and smells fine, I'm not going to dare plug it in again until I have the proper adapter but the First time I plugged it in at least something happened and it lit up and had extremely noisy results, the second time I plugged it in nothing happened, so I'm very skeptical.
>>
>>69748122
It's to do with how digital their pedals are. They use relays instead of switches, the buttons on the pedals just trigger the relay. It's how when you turn the pedal off it resets to default. It makes the pedals very versatile, but squishy switches and knobs are the tradeoff.
>>
>>69748117
It's because you're not playing anything very musical. It's just a demonstration of your skills. I can't do a very good job of putting it into words, but you're just playing the technically impressive bits of songs, not an actual enjoyable song.
>>
>>69748117
The figure taping and general shred you have going on is very impressive because we all know the sort of skill it takes to simply perform that action, unfortunately the skill is all for nothing if the end result doesn't sound good to the ear, I don't mean to attack you personal, musical enjoy is subjective, but just compare what you played to Eruption by Van Halen, He's using the same technique and arguably playing a much easier song, but when he plays is an iconic piece of music because it sounds right, whereas your performance comes off a little all over the place. You're clearly a very talented guitarist but I'm sure you know that some of the popular songs ever written are also some of the easiest to play
>>
>>69748180
Put a battery in it. I doubt you fried the circuit unless your power supply was a piece of shit. Make sure you've got the leads going in the right directions. I've embarrassed myself a few times that way.

/gg/'s opinion on BIAS FX ? Is it good or is it just a meme?
I'm a student living in a uni dorm right now so I can't crank up an amp, all I want is a nice tone to practice at home so thought about getting this BIAS FX software + a cheap interface, will this do?

Also planning to get in a band soon. I guess for that I'd need a real amp right? feels bad man, I have no money I can't afford both
>>

If you're not on a pirate tracker, they might not be legit. This may not be the right place to ask, and I've not downloaded anything cracked in ages; but yeah, interface is the priority as you can't usually download one.
>>
>>69748256
said it before but it holds true

clapton, one of the best guitarists in history builds his pieces around very simple riffs and solos that rarely stray out of an octave. I suck at it but half the art of guitar is simply knowing when to play

With that kind of budget, you have a lot of choices in hollows/semi-hollows. Hagstrom VIkings, Ibanez stuff, Epiphones, Gretsch, etc.

I have a question about pickups.

So I own this peavey predator with the pickup set up as in pic. I've been looking to upgrade them, and while looking I found a slanted humbucker by Seymour Duncan made specifically for Epiphone Nighthawks. When I took apart my Peavey I realized the bridge was actually two single coil pickups. So I'm wondering whether I could put in that Nighthawk humbucker or would that fuck up the wiring for the switches?

Yeah

If the demo version and the non-demo version have the same tones you can just copy the tone presets and the json file over

But if they differ you need to copy the tone preset then look at the preset.json of the demo version and add that tone's json entry into the non-demo version's preset.json

To add an entry you need to put a comma after the last entry and increment display order by 1(or just paste it if it's the first)

Here's an example

You may insist on having "the best" of everything — for instance, the best car, athletic club or medical care.
At the same time, you have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have secret feelings of insecurity, shame, vulnerability and humiliation. You're better off. All those shitty digital amps do is pretend to be the thing every guitarist really wants: a good tube amp. Just get a good tube amp to start with, dummy. You don't need 100, just one good one.

Is the Gibson Les Paul Traditional 2015 a meme? Its selling for 1250€

I would buy it but im afraid of getting ripped off
>>

it sounded fine, I just missed having an actual amp. Something about real knobs and caps is nice.

It sounded like the amp it was supposed to be copying. I don't know what else I could say. It's a copycat amp, not supposed to be something novel.
>>
>>69755464
Here's how you tell if it's a meme or not: you turn it over and if there's a year stamped into the back of the headstock then it's a meme.

>It's a copycat amp
I like how you can call it shit without even knowing it

hahaha jesus dude, you're the reason we're still paying out the ass for obsolete technology. I don't get why you're convinced that modeling amps are tailor-made for those people, and if you want modern metal tones that use tube amps then listen to Gojira or the newest Meshuggah album.

>>
>>69755649
>>69755696
Maybe should actually try A/Bing one of them with a tube amp while running both on cabinets instead of just assuming that they all sound like Line 6 red beans.

The anon who said about selling his Kemper for a new amp didn't say he hated it, he just thought that he wasn't using its purpose a lot, which is cloning tones from actual amps rather than emulating them from scratch a la most modelers.

In my point of view, Kempers should be used for live performances because it's easier to carry them around than a heavy amp head, which you keep in the studio for recording.

"Tonal equivalent" lmao, alright dude. Any band that actually has a decent following (i.e. not your shitty stoner/shoegaze/emo/whatever the shit you listen to) uses modelling amps.
>>
Not him but I bought a Kemper a few months a go because it was supposed to replicate my Mesa and my Twin. Long story short, it didn't even come close to either in a direct comparison so I returned it.

It's all good to fall for advertising and aggressive sales tactics but it's another thing when the product falls short in the field.

I can tell you Kemper is garbage from personal firsthand experience.

Did you create your own profile or did you download one from someone else? It would be better if you had done the former, which would require a lot of details on micing up the cabinet speaker to make it sound good.

>>69755772
Bill Kelliher uses an Axe FX for his live effects now though and their tone isn't very digital sounding.

>>69755815
Are you just going to laugh at people instead of bringing up a point? You should realize that tube purists like yourself also behave in the same way almost 99% of the time.
>>
>>69755831
Yeah, and the profile sounded like ass when compared directly to amp I was trying to model. It wasn't even close.
>>
>>69755781
What were you playing through? A big part of getting a good sound is going through a good set of speakers, preferrably an FRFR set up.
>>

yeah have fun chasing your tone dickwad :') maybe when you can actually play guitar you'll have something to say.

i actually saw a band play the other using line 6s and you know what? No one in the audience cared. It's almost like music is about... music.
>>
>>69755892
They didn't say about the Axe FX though and you consider it a fake amp. The Kemper's more likely to sound more shit because you're literally using a piece of recording as a guitar tone.
>>
>>69755941
>No one in the audience cared
Haa ha ha! You know what, I'm sure this is 100% true! I can see it now: an audience full of bored people listening to a bunch of retards play Metallica covers with their Line 6 Spiders! Haa ha ha ha, you sure proved you point!

>>
>>69756055
So one person vs. multiple artists who have been using tube amps for years. No one here's trying to claim that modelers are superior, they just work to sound as good as tube amps. You should follow that most modeling tones wouldn't exist without tube amps so of course the other one have to coexist.

>>69756032
Is your argument just going to be "haha fake amps" without any accomplishment?
>>
>>69756090
still no other examples? hmmmmm or are you just "trolling" ?
>>

>No one here's trying to claim that modelers are superior

>>69756100
>other examples
Other examples of what? You're argument is called an appeal to authority which is a logical fallacy. It means you don't have an actual argument. Let me know when that changes, ok?
>>
>>69756140
Are you just going to claim one person's post to prove that all modelers are bad? Do you even know how the Kemper works?

Your fault is that you think that everything you hear about modelers is just one big advertising claim and the only thing you care about what's in the amp are in the parts rather than the sound coming through the cabinet speakers.

>advertising
these bands use kempers live and some even on the album. do they do it just for the sake of advertising?? If they truly sounded like shit they wouldn't use them live. are you really that fucking dense?
You're just buttblasted because you probably saw your favorite act live and thought they were playing "real" amps but guess what, they probably weren't and if they were its only a matter of time before they switch.

Some artists like herman li even prefer kempers because they're more reliable tubes need maintenance.
>>
>>69756243

Your entire desire for gear is based upon advertising. You wouldn't care for Fender, Marshall, Strymon, whatever if it weren't for advertising. Shut up about and give a real fucking reason. Did you play through an FRFR set up? Or are you just upset you couldn't get a Kemper to sound good through your pair of babby's first computer speakers? Or did you use the headphones /g/ tricked you to buy?
>>
>fake amp fags are forced resort to paid endorsement lists and youtube commercials
lmao
>>
>>69756243
You've quoted the same anecdote for the fourth time and there's no audio proof about how it sounds bad, you've already failed in trying to prove yourself right.

If you think those artists using them for live purposes are doing it for the sake of advertising, then your definition of the word is screwed. Here's a proper example of advertising, if you even pay a little attention to Dino's live rigs, he never even uses those Spider heads for recording or live, only Vetta and now Kempers.

>>
>>69756348
>Haa haa haa ha! Gotcha! You're admitting they sound so much like ass that they're avoided in most recording situations! Haa ha ha haaaaa!

most producers still prefer using live amps. Mostly due to tradition or maybe the fact that they own all this expensive equipment and feel silly if it goes to waste.

Stop trying to move the goalposts just to insult things you don't like. I'm gonna have to quote >>69755631 again because those two examples are actually using those Kempers and not for advertising purposes.

>>69756382
You were trying to say that Kempers are automatically bad just because they're modeling amps, and we've already posted enough proof that they can sound as good as tube amps. It sounds like you're hearing that they're going to replace tube amps but that's too extreme to actually happen.
>>
>>69756404
>You were trying to say that Kempers are automatically bad just because they're modeling amps
And then you admitted that was 100% true. Tell the truth, you don't even realize you did exactly that, do you?

This is so great. Please reply.
>>
>>69756452
I never said that they were bad, everyone was telling you that high-end modeling amps that have their own dedicated processors are as close to actual tube amps and people use it for the sake of convenience. Of course it's not going to kill off the tube amp market because that's the foundation for all the tones in those things.
>>
>>69756452
>>69756480
the market is going to be 50-50 tube and amp sims in the next few years.

Think about the leaps and bounds in amp sim tech just this last year
Helix
Ezmix
Bias
Cab impulses

now think about the leaps and bounds made by tube amps this year--

yeah.
You're fighting the future. That never ends well for anybody
>>
>>69756497
You forgot about the Two Notes Torpedo Live, they're cab modelers for amp heads so that people would just plug them into the PA and won't have to carry and mic a heavy cabinet.
>>
>>69756527
I actually didn't know what they did, I just knew everybody and their momma used them. Neat.
>>
>>69756497
>t-t-tube amps are g-g-going away soon
>said the nervous man
>for the last 60 years
lmao
>>
>>69756554
the nervous man was right
tube amps get more expensive
modeling becomes more affordable and accurate
tubes haven't really improved much in 60 years.
I wonder what tube amp sales look like compared to modeling now.

Tubes are going the way of the combustion engine. A slow painful death because people are resisting change
>>
>>69756554
>>69756570
Then explain to me why solid-state amps never reached as big as tube amps. I'd honestly be devastated if Mesa/Boogie goes out of business even though I support modeling amps and they even have a licensed amp pack on Amplitube.

Mini tube amps are becoming a new trend for guitar players thanks to companies like Peavey releasing smaller versions of their well-known amps.
>>
I'd prefer SS amps do things that valve amps cannot do and define their own unique character and sound rather than try and copy something. It's like keyboardists who play with the same basic piano or organ samples.
>>
>>69756570
>the nervous man was right
