So I've been playing guitar for about a decade now and recently started getting interested in mathrock and shred guitar stuff, where is a good place to start with Ibanez guitars? Like are the high end Rg models supposed to be what I'm looking for or what?
>>
Acoustic fingerstyle player trying out electrics for the first time here. How can I avoid muddiness? I try turning up my treble and mids but my basslines are still muddy as fuck (granted I play with my bare fingers, my natural nails are too shitty for steel string). Using fingerpicks helps a lot but I hate the feel of them. Suggestions?
>>
>>69732395

>>

aww i love the bass my thumb gives me. get a bright single coil guitar
>>
>>69732395
I've owned their Iron Label guitars before, 2 of them. And I've played their higher end stuff too.
Their RG and S lines are tailor made for metal and shred, so any one will do, and their top level stuff rivals or beats any top level stuff of other brands.
>>
>>69732411
Get a strat, not even memeing. Those single coils are going to give you the clear tone you are looking for.

If I was in your shoes I'd buy a jc120 clone (fender ultimate chorus, yamaha g100, etc) and use pedals. Modeling amps vary wildly in quality and though I haven't played the katana it's cut from the same cloth as some of my amps.

You don't get to tweak the pedals, the effects are either what you want or they're not. It's also not complicated at all, though some people assume it is because muh amp modeling
I also only use 3 presets, and that's all most beginners would really need

>>69732519
I've owned 2 of them. The first one was their original Iron Labels when they first started making them. I absolutely loved it and played the shit out of it. I ended up selling it to my best friend for cheap because he had some financial stuff come up and had to sell his own guitar. Otherwise I'd still have it.

And ever since they released the first ones, they've been improving them ever since, with new pickup variations, coil spliting, locking tuners, and more.
I've gotten myself another one and it's my main guitar I play all the time. Literally my only complaint and it's not even bad is that some of the fret ends were a little sharp, which could mean they weren't filed enough at the factory, or the wood shrank at some point, which is normal. Just filed them up and it's perfect.

I've had an ibanez acoustic for ~13 years now, my low E string doesn't ring out or sustain like it used to, its kind of muted and isn't due to the strings. I'm admittedly pretty oblivious to guitar repair/maintenence. Im thinking it might be the polymer saddle, its a little worn down. Anything I can do to improve the timbre of my strings to a brighter sound? (I use cleartones and that helps a bit)

That was supposed to be Schecter, yeah? I was in the same place as you earlier this year, and I ended up buying the KM6 at first. There were definitely some quality issues from the factory. The neck pickup kept inching up so I'd have to screw it back down every 30 minutes and the frets just felt bad, kinda like they were clunky and almost "sticky". I also found the pickups were a bit more nasally-sounding than what I was expecting. Instead of trying to fix up the guitar I sent it back and bought an RG Prestige for a couple hundred more. Definitely made the right choice in the end
>>
>>69732718
In this vein, to the fucking retard who last thread thought I meant the Line 6 amps, you're fucking stupid as shit because I said the multi effects pedal.

You a bassist as well? These pedals are great. Literally all I need for a great tone. No big ass amp rig necessary. At practice I plug in to an FRFR PA speaker, and at gig I just go into the venue's PA. Its great.

I put the noise suppressor right before my preamp because, depending on the environment, the power source as well as the connections between the pedals can all be a little noisy, and this just helps to keep noise levels consistently low.

I've watched tons of his videos. He owns his own music store and is super knowledgeable. His videos like that come from his experience working in the industry and having to deal with that stuff, like importing guitars to his store, and writing checks to whom and all that.

I enjoy it because it shows that most stuff is made by the same people in the same factory, what you're paying for is the name, and how ridiculous people are for paying huge amounts of money for it.

You can do it with the physical interface, though. Hold the exit button and turn the treble knob. A firmware update added this years ago. Have they not explained how to do it in the manuals that were produced after the firmware update?

There are actually a few different things that you can modify by holding the exit button and turning knobs, but I never actually use them because mine is always connected to a computer. I'm sure you can probably find a list pretty easily with Google.

Protip: You can do a factory reset by holding the "Exit" button while turning the amp on.

It's a Chapman video, yes. But it shows him in the factory and you can see just how many other brands are being made in the exact same factory, of the same woods, by the same people.

Again, you're paying for the name on the headstock, that's it.

>bought an MIM fender
>turns out its a 'squier series' made in korea
>intonation wont adjust despite moving the saddles
>tuning heads are creaky and unsmooth, possibly rusted
>electronics sound pretty good though (idk why)

it actually has a hardwood body which is why i was fooled, most other 'squier series' have plywood bodies and are actually thinner than most mims/mias. yes i was too dumb to look up the serial when i bought it.

wat do /gg/? i got gypped, and now nobody else wants to buy the guitar after i tell them it's made in korea. should i put money into making it more playable or just write it off as stupidity and get another guitar?

if you've got your modes down though, practice them with an augmented fifth on the Ionian mode, so like in C you raise the G to a G#, as if you were playing in A harmonic minor but for other modes.
It's not the most useful scale but it can lead to some intersting results

If you're looking for AC/DC style overdrive, I like the Xotic SL Drive.

If you're looking for a little Dumble / Klon style warm "amp pushed to slightly breaking up" kind of overdrive, Wampler Tumnus seems like a decent pedal. Seems like you can push it into that traditional classic rock overdrive sound on the higher gain settings too. I haven't used it myself though.

Shiba Drive sounds alright from the demos I just clicked through briefly. _/(-_-)\_

I don't know man, I usually use arpeggios to outline Diminished and Half-Diminished chords. I think Locrian sounds alright over either one though but I haven't really experimented with it much, admittedly.

Anyway I'd usually play a Diminished 7th arpeggio over a Diminished chord and a Minor 7 Flat 5 arpeggio (Half-Diminished) over a m7b5 (Half-Diminished) chord.

In most songs you're usually not hanging out on a diminished chord for very long, so I think the arpeggios can quickly outline that sound before you have to move on to the next chord. I'm sure Locrian sounds great if you learn to use it well, though.

Here's what I try to do on diminished and half-diminished chords, respectively:

Fucking fantastic. the problem people have with it is that theres a hum, thats just a byproduct of how the head was made. it's noticible, but just barely. Otherwise, it sounds INCREDIBLE. Sounds just like a classic cranked marshall, and takes pedals well. responds great to dynamics and volume knob.

>Also what would be a good 1x12 cab for it?
Anything with a greenback, I prefer the matching cab (for A E S T H E T I C) with one, but I play it mostly out of a white EVH 212 that the gf has with Greenbacks. Highly recommend.

it's just practicing improv over and over until it becomes natural.

learn solos from your favourite players and learn whatever little tricks they use outside of the standard minor/major pentatonic notes.

go to youtube and find backing tracks to improv over.

improv solo over your favorite songs.

try to make your right hand phrasing more natural, take breaks in between small phases (don't let notes hang the entire time), try to put some more groove and swing in your right hand and just let it kind of flow. this especially will take a while to feel natural.

a lot of the classic blues/rock guys would change their idea or kind of progress around every 2 bars, listen to a lot of classic guitarists and it's very common.

you'll see a lot of improvement between 6 months to 2 years+

it's not a hard and fast rule but a new idea every 2 bars. don't think you have to do it every 2 bars but it's something you'll want to do say over 50% of the time. you can also do like 1.5 bars or 2.5 bars.

So in my quest to find a good general, all-arounder guitar, something led me to Michael Kelly guitars. Saw a video on this, their CC50DLX. Seems like it can do a lot of styles.

Has anyone heard about Michael Kelly guitars, are they any good? I'll be honest, the price is making me a bit iffy, since most of the "better" guitars I've found (American Strats, LPs, etc) have been over $1,000, and this one is $600, and most of their other guitars are around the $600-800 range.

See, that's what I'm concerned about. All these options, the upgraded electronics and Seymour Duncan Hot Rails, for like, $600? Is there a catch?

that wood body is so sexy though

there's a used one on ebay for 550$

might be your cheapest option because ebay has a GODLY return policy.

i returned a 60 pound work station and it cost me 0$ to ship it back and got a full refund

iirc LTD is a little bit of a different case from ESP since ESP is almost completely exclusive to japan
But usually they're bad because you're paying less, not because it's a subsidiary company.
Keep in mind, there's not just Gibson&Epiphone, Fender&Squier, ESP&LTD, these companies own more than that.

Gibson owns Epiphone but also Steinberger, Kramer (plus some other non-guitar stuff)
Fender owns Squier, Gretsch, Charvel, Jackson and EVH,
ESP owns ESP-LTD and Scheter (as surprising as it may seem)

Guitar pro file if available. I like those because it's really easy to edit them. It's rare that i will use any kind of notation without making some changes to it for accuracy and finger position and different fills i may want to do (i play bass). It's also handy for arranging parts that aren't originally written for guitar.

Are the fender tension springs that keep in the trem arm in place usable on a trem block like this? It looks like they'd just fall out. This is the block for a MIM strat.

Bassists generally have no talent. The guitar parts that most singers play usually require no talent, especially if there is another guitar player.

Most bassists you see sing are usually pretty good. Some canada core examples are Geddy Lee, Rob Wright, and Todd Kowalski. Or they pstly just play the root note.

Bass players are a weird niche, theyre usually either really rhythm oriented or really melodic, both of which can affect singing. Strumming chords is a little more complex than tapping a rhythm on your knee.

>Strumming chords is a little more complex than tapping a rhythm on your knee.
Depends completely on the strum pattern and rythm.
>>
>>69740640
Because it's bloody hard, simply put. Just like playing intricate lead is hard whilst singing, bassists have less leeway considering they're also taking the rhythm and beat responsibility. It becomes less about groove and more about autopilot playing.

Whenever you see a bassist on vocals you know he's a good musician.

nah fuck that, vocals are boring and take too much space imo.
I'm just saying, if you're strumming an intricate rhythm, playing on the dynamics and the notes at the same time, it's going to be harder than simply keeping the beat on your knee.

By learning Nirvana songs until you yourself want to blow your head off. Or find a girl to hire to blow your head off and frame it as suicide, if you roll that way.

Super noob question here, so today I got a Boss DD-3 that i ordered a few days ago. It was used and came with no power adapters so I used a spare that had the same volts, when I plugged the pedal in it made a horrible feedback thing on my amp and so I turned it off to try to fix the problem. When I went back to test the pedal gain and had everything plugged in the pedal would not turn on and now I get no response for it. What should I do?
