love the firebird look but still no idea what they're best played for

are they gibson's all purpose model?
>>
>>69578206
I'm looking at this model specifically.
http://www.ibanez.com/products/u_hb_detail.php?year=2016&cat_id=7&series_id=120&data_id=56&color=CL01
The single cut model comes with a bridge that I'm not too comfortable with, not sure though. Anyway, anything I should know with these? I honestly just want it to sound decent and stay in tune, with decent fretwork, etc. I don't expect the world from it. Electronics seem like a pain to repair/replace, again not sure.
>>
I posted in the old thread but didn't get any help. In my area a private seller is offering his 2005 MIM Fender Deluxe PowerHouse Strat (Carmel body, pearloid pickguard, maple fretboard, 12db boost via tone knob 2, etc.) with a hardshell case for USD 400 or best offer. From the photos it shows no damage and want to hear from others who have had it, or know about it.

Thanks
>>
>>69578408
The bridge on the single cut may be fixed, they fix them on Gretschs now.
>>
>>69578548
From what I read the bridge sits on a top of a block of wood and is only held in place by pressure. While the double cut bridge slots into the body.
The single cut looks better to me but I'd hate to deal with the bridge if it works that way.

This sounds silly and plebby because it is but is there an electric guitar buying guide?

I've been playing on a crappy Epiphone knockoff a friend gave me for about 4 years and I'm actually getting good enough and making enough money to buy a real guitar. I know next to nothing about guitar outside of the basic Strat, Tele, Gretch, Les Paul, etc. etc. and what my favorite guitarists play. Is there a way to educate myself on the strengths of different guitars?

>>
>>69579001
>Is there a way to educate myself on the strengths of different guitars?
Yes.
Don't buy into the marketing ploy of big companies, a Telecaster is as versatile as a Les Paul, or even an Ibanez RG.
The actual differences that matter are the electronics, the scale lenght, and the overall ergonomics of the guitar.

>Don't buy into the marketing ploy of big companies, a Telecaster is as versatile as a Les Paul, or even an Ibanez RG.

This is exactly what I've always been curious about. I play a Les Paul knockoff and the sound I use isn't even close to the glammy T. Rex / Mick Ronson sound people always call the Les Paul sound. I can get tons of different sounds out but I usually using a chuggier sound that I would usually associate with Bruce and his Telecaster.
>>
>>69579096
Rockstars are using guitars worth many thousands and amp stacks with multiple engineers, never equate your tone to them.

Your average Joe isn't going to get much more than thin bluesy lead and slashy strums from a telecaster.

>>
>>69579712
Part of it is to do with the fact that PRS 'true' american made guitars have seen a price increase in the retail market. The CE series (non-satin) is $2k and the next step up is the Custom series at $3.5k.., when you consider that, people wanting $2000 for a 2006 PRS doesn't seem so ridiculous.

The S2's have great construction, but they use the SE pickups and hardware. It's kind of a sham if you ask me. Even my CE22 is technically a 'better' guitar by PRS standards than their current CE series because they've changed the carve on the modern ones to save on wood and they are using old stock tuners.

>>69579747
It's a CE22 actually, just a bolt on version of the custom. Gives it more pop, it's a good sound just a little different.
>>
>>69579821

>>
>>69579889
Not great, I'm a rhythm player with quite shocking right hand finger independence. Definitely try without a pick though, you can grab grouped notes or chords with ease and snap them back after slides, pulloffs, muted strums or whatever you want. I can get some funky grooves but not much over the top to jam it out solo.

Again warning, your nails will bleed a lot at first!

>>
>>69579923

>>
>>69580194
Generally I strum with my forefinger nail and side of the thumb, then mute bass notes by laying my thumb across or my palm. Rest should fall into place? It's so hard to explain since I've just played like this for a long time.

Look up some folk/funk solo jams on Youtube though and see how they incorporate strong dynamics with just their hands to get some ideas. Try and play as aggressive as possible.
>>
>>69578673
>https://clyp.it/sisrxm4t
Try playing it at a much slower tempo (with a metronome) till you can play it articulately. The idea is good but you need to practice more!
>>
>>69580375
Thanks for the answers.
I've kinda had an idea of strumming from a teacher i used to play with, he played the Charango so he had some pretty superb strumming, i liked how he used the tips of the 4 fingers lined up and then used his thumb to give it the accent, pretty good stuff there.

Do you all only play heavy metal or something?

Nothing wrong with short scale basses, you lose a bit of low end and gain some punch which enhances your presence in the mix wall of sound. Can still serve your basic purpose as a driving or walking bassist just fine. And they're great when used higher end to echo or compliment leads if your song allows that kinda stuff.

Wrong, think back to the Hofner sound McCartney used to have in The Beatles. Complex lines and riffs that brought both melody and stability to their music. Why? Because he was fucking good, but also lack of low end and a tone that you most definitely could not achieve by twisting a few knobs with any old bass today.

Smaller scales can be utilised in a similar fashion.

How do I make my solos not suck eggs?

I'm trying to jam in C# minor and all I can come up with to do when I first pick up my guitar is to play an ascending 16th note sequence on a C# minor 7th arpeggio, then noodle around in C# minor pentatonic and shit. And it sounds like the same old boring uninspired garbage over and over again and although I'm targeting chord tones, it doesn't sound like <MUSIC>
>>
>>69582261
Touche.
Though I'm fine with that. Dave is one of my favorite artists and isn't nearly as overrated as dime.

Dean makes really good entry and mid level guitars that play well out of the box. Epiphones NEED a setup bought brand new in my experience. You can totally play a dean thats not setup, but if you do it right it becomes so much better.
Dean just can't market their non dime stuff for shit and they keep making ugly ass graphic designs every NAMM which diminishes their percieved value to non-rednecks.

>>
>>69582464
>They have some really nice modern designs but you wouldn't know because GC only carries the shitty flame graphics for teens and dixieland dimeshit
Most likely because that's what sells the most.
For the same reason you barely ever see any kind of odd models in guitar shop, like Bass VIs or that 5 stringed Ibanez BTB that's actually tuned to EADGC instead of BEADG
>>
>>69581555
>Has anyone here installed locking tuners on a guitar?
Yeah.

Is it a pain in the ass?
Not really.

People always talk about using them for tuning stability but I think their main purpose is to make changing strings easy af.

You just pull the string through the peg all the way, gently tighten the lock, tune up to pitch, and snip the excess.

One thing you need to look out for when you're buying them is whether or not you need graduated tuners based on your headstock.

I use a Fender mustang, which has a shortened scale... I really like it personally, it was easy to transition from guitar to and it works well in my post punk group. I dont find the low end drop to be too bad, since I cute my low mids to make the punch and low frequencies stand out.

I do want a regular scale bass eventually though because I dont want to be limited by playing a 3/4. If i were learning from scratch Id say make an effort to learn on a full scale

>>
>>69582654
People will probably tell you know, and maybe I'm biased because I like them quite a bit but I'll be honest.

Entry level - pretty good.
Mid level- honestly great value for the money
USA- from what I hear comprable to other usa made guitars
Dime- Ripoff. Seriously dime label guitars are apple or beats by dre you're literally paying a premium for ugly design and the name.
Some other signature guitars are ok but if you're shelling out a couple of thousands you can get a custom usa dean made instead to your exact specs.

If your guitar store actually carries anything other than dime give it a try

This is fun in some way, but not in a musical way.

>>69583901
I remember seeing that one. Truly a masterpiece.

The only thing I've ever been recorded on is this.
https://soundcloud.com/scrotum-deflagration/sets/regurgitation-of-bicyclette

It's just awful and at times barely coherent.

Close your door and use headphones.

And try not being a little bitch.

I bought strings there about a year ago.

Ola Englunds Dimebag fiddle is actually pretty neat even though I don't give two shits about Dime.

Also, aren't the Washburn Dimes supposed to be better than the Deans? What's the history behind what guitars Dime used?
>>
>>69584212
> After Dean guitars' demise in 1994 he signed with Washburn, going back to Dean again in 2004. Abbott co-designed a guitar with Dean just months before his death.

Thanks, it's my first day on the internet
>>
>>69584066
Are you worried about him hearing you and thinking you're shit?
Buy a headphone practice amp like a rockman or something.

if you're a beginner you're going to sound bad but whatever. if hes a musician he'll understand and if hes not then i'm sure he had something he was bad at once too

the singer who wrote most of the shit is actually a pretty good songwriter and has f.e. co-written some tv-show stuff a couple of years ago
guess that even showed through in a teen metal band a little

All you have to do is recognize that you are bad at guitar right now, will continue to be bad for a long time, and be willing to laugh about it if he ever mentions it. It's not a big deal. You don't magically learn an instrument over night and you don't learn it at all if you don't practice.

Been playing acoustic for about 7 months now and I'm almost done with Justinguitar's beginner course. What's a good beginner electric guitar?

Are you joking? This would be the most uncomfortable setup ever.
>>
>>69584600
Pretty much anything from Squier or lower end Gibson stuff, depends on what you want to play
>>
>>69584622
Scalpers? I see them at Roadburn a few years ago, 4 day ticket wan't much more than that.
>>
>>69584650
Wow, I'm an idiot. I actually was looking at resale tickets.

But yeah, I guess I"ll just wait for them to come back around.

are there any fuzz or overdrive pedals that don't yank up your volume like crazy?
i want a distorted sound that doesn't blow my windows out when i just want to sit in the sofa and noodle a bit.

rest of the ibanez lineup is fine but jesus christ gios are among the worst starter guitars

No way you got those measurements right, that's the size of a closet. One of those tiny smart cars couldn't even fit in there
