So /gg/, I'm in the market for a fretless bass, anyone here have any they would recommend? I really only have the budget for something entry level, thinking about getting a Cort B4 that's listed for $400 right now

pic related, looks decent but I know little about Cort apart from them being Korean and making a lot of instruments under different brand names

Squier made a VM fretless jazzbass a while ago. It was pretty nice, especially if you're trying to cop those jaco feels.

deluxe bass big muff has a blend control as well as a low pass filter for the clean and a high pass filter for the dirty parts of the signal. It's an extremely tune-able sound.

Consensus on the new American Professional series?

I'm torn between getting one of the few AM Standards left or a spanking new American Professional.
>>
>>69585209
Something with a blend knob. Otherwise you lose low end frequencies. How much dry signal you need to keep depends on the quality of the pedal. That is the reason bass OD and fuzz pedals can get expensive.

There other way is to your an a/b pedal in to sub synth to amp, and then run the second line through your other effects. That is something to consider if you use effects frequently.
>>
>>69586184
*the other option is to run an a/b pedal... sorry that sentence got so mangled.

Get the American Special line. I've got an American Special Tele and love it. The neck shape is more modern and comfortable and it has jumbo frets, and once you've played a guitar with jumbo frets you'll never want to go back.
And the Texas Special pickups sound great.

Reminder that there are certain people in these threads who crave attention and feed off of the attention they get when you reply to them. For that reason they like to shitpost and start arguments and keep the arguments going because it all fuels their need for the attention.
This is just a reminder not to respond to them at all, not to give them the attention they want, and just ignore them. Also, just a friendly reminder, replying to them to tell them that you're not going to reply to them is still replying to them, and you shouldn't do it.

silly question but;

can experienced guitarists play and fingerpick complex sheet music they've never seen before? because I imagine it as players slowly build up the picking patterns and muscle memory required with each piece by practicing beforehand. but can really good players just pick up and play flawlessly or close to it?

let's hypothetically say the sheet music is extremely difficult with varying tempos throughout etc.
>>
>>69587838
Yup, you don't need any muscle memory for sightreading, that's only when you're trying to perfect the piece
>>
>>69587838
My teacher could grab sheet music he had never seen before and play through it perfectly the first time around. So yeah.
>>
>>69587407
What tunings are worth on that?
>>
>>69587982
I'm going with EBEADGBE
>>
>>69587838
Yeah, they can. It takes work to get there. Some just attempt to get through it and then work on difficult parts, some people can play it flawlessly(or atleast be convincing with it)

Varying tempo isnt precise on any piece ive seen that isnt a midi file, itll say moderato then allegro or whatever, tempo is generally set by the conductor, if youre playing by yourself you set it. Its not a set tempo, is a range. The only music i saw tempo on back in the day was marching band, which had no tempo changes, and 99.99% of that was 120 bpm just to signify that it was a march.

I watched my MD go through a package of music he got in the mail when we were looking for something different to play. He went through at least a dozen sheets he saw for the first time, and played each one incredibly on piano, both hands.

It also helps if you have perfect pitch and have heard thr piece performed enough that youre kinda familiar with it. If you can predict the bass tone and timing then you can put more focus on the melody.

I havent read sheet music in a couple years, and i was never great at it, i could get timing down perfectly, but i never practiced enough.

yeah. feels pretty small and narrow with everything very close and in front. there's no depth and sense of space at all, very cramped.
also the replaced drums feel really unnatural and there's a couple of editing fuckups
as anon says this could be pretty strong since the tracking is good and it has quite some power, but the mix needs to transport that instead of tiring the listener. can't imagine listening through a full album with these kind of mixes

Bought one of these today(not the autistic version though) and have been completely floored by it. I dropped the action a lot, adjusted the pickups, and thats it. Didnt have adjust the truss rod, intonation, didnt have to sand down the nut. Its holding tuning very well. It sounds and plays really nice. Not at all what i was expecting for just over $300.

I will say, fret finishing is kind of shit on the edges of the fretboard. You can feel the sharp nubs bad in some spot. Nothing a file cant fix.

I thought for sure id need new tuners, but these are working fine. Might still get some new pickups but we'll see. If i do itll probably be some gibsons or some kind of paf.

I bought a different g400 like 10 years ago, for $450, garbage. Felt horrible, played horrible, no set up could save it. I think they were being made in indonesia then.

my problem isn't with songs per se, but the actual act of writing the lyrics themselves; i can eventually get a song through with some Pavement-tier noodle solos. the original goal of my bigger projects was a subject-heavy singer-songwriter string of records, but virtually all of the songs i've made the past ~3 years have been instrumental stuff

It's legit, all the thinlines with the long style logo are like that since the tele headstock is pretty limited in space so straight from the factory it's cutting it close. The blocky letters make it THICCC. Definetly check the "Made in-" and serial numbers

Im part of the glorious hybrid society, my Music Man has a really good clean and my Super champ has an all tube channel and all solid state, I use the tube to allow pedals more room to wiggle around and solid state if I'm playing some really warm and clean stuff. (Channel 6, 7 and 16 are wonderful)
Some solid states are really great too, my buddy has a 70s super Reverb for gigs and a frontman 212 for practice and it holds it's tone. My peavey solid state has a real Reverb tank and it sounds amazing, I might lend it to my brother before he wants to buy a tube amp. I was thinking about the CR120 over the OR15 because of volume.

> two best friends wanting to start up a pop punk band and invite me because I had a Squier bronco bass for small home recordings

> join because I'm not doing anything musically important and I'm pretty skilled

> he's pretty good and has consistent technical ability due to lessons but can't improvise any style that isn't 70s hard rock like a straight rip off from a Jimmy page solo and only theoretical and musical knowledge is TAB

> wants to be a frontman but singing voice is shit, I end up replacing him as a lead singer and starts getting pissy

> drummer is really versitille and we jam a lot to different rhythm styles from funk to heavy fuzzed out stoner

> bring my guitar and my digitech drop that can go a whole octave down and sound like a bass to practice to write rhythm guitar parts

> start jamming with drummer playing lead and we go into a 25 minute Santana style Latin Jazz fusion that evolves into Paul Bloomfield styled blues jam to janky Hendrix blues and finally to a surf jam from Pipeline To Wipeout, other guitarist just sits on the couch in his phone the entire time

> go home, stop getting texts to come practice, a month later ask drummer what happened? He says the other guitarist doesn't think my style fits the type of music they're trying to make so they're dropping me but drummer invites me to jam one on one.

My phone and notebooks have 264 different song ideas all but 7 are only instruments. I'm trying to find a way to fit in melody first that'll flow with the notes and chords but it's tough. A lot of the people I've worked with have a good melody here and there but the lyrics lack substance and are generic. I need to find good melody exercises or artists that have consistently popular melodies that I can rip off

Don't fall for the stupid hand strenght bullshit. You'll hurt your hand more than anything else.
All the strenght in your fingers come from your forearm.
The reason your pinky usually doesn't "have enough strenght" is because you don't use it, it's more a question of muscle memory than muscle strenght.

Been playing my MIM Strat for about a year. Wanted to try a new sound with humbuckers, bought a Schecter C-1 Platinum.
It actually seems like there's more hum on these active EMG pickups and I have to be super careful about muting strings. Is it just because I'm still shit at properly muting?

>My hand got totally fucked up. Guitar has proven to be a generally helpful therapy tool for it.
Ah, sorry mate, thought you were another of these tools who fall for marketing ploys.
Good luck with your recovery.

>>69595956
The lack of hum has nothing to do with whether the pickups are active or passive, it has to do with whether they're humbucking or not. A LP won't have any hum, but still has some passive pickups.
iirc the EMG81 you have in your bridge position is kinda famous for compressing a little the tone, so if your muting technique is not perfect, it'll be heard.

>>
>>69595380
Put string through hole leaving enough to get 3 wraps(2 is ok for thicker strings, i do 4-6 on unwound strings). Bend remainder that will be cut straight up(90 degrees to headstock face), bend the other side in the direction it will wrap around the peg. Hold the string on the playing side close to the tuner to keep tension on it(important step), starte tightening it, make sure that the string goes around the post under the last wrap you made.

The bends make it hard for the string to move out of the tuners hole

Wrapping it with tension makes it wrap uniformly so it doesnt shift later.

Making each pass lower than the last pass will give you more angle against the nut. It also will keep the string from moving on the post because there will be upwards tension on it from the same angle

Been doing this for 8 years, i tried a bunch of different methods in the 6 years prior. This one is easy and i have not had a single issue with tuning stability since i started using it.

You're disruptive and uncooperative. You can't regulate yourself, you dwell on issues that interest nobody but yourself, you're argumentative, you're a bigot, and you're immature. All you've done in this thread is make excuses; you've never made any attempt to understand the management or other member's points of view, or to reconcile your past behaviour. It's hard to tell whether you're stubborn, or legitimately cannot form mens rea in regard to your transgressions; are you a very clever troll or blissfully unaware of how obnoxious you truly are?

That's why you're banned, not *just* because you're a tripfag. It's just easy to generalize your behaviour (listed above) as 'tripfag behaviour', because it is, in fact, quite in line to stereotypical tripfag conduct.

Now, you seem to be quite capable of evading bans. If you want to evade another ban and return to the discord under a different name and become a contributing member of the group, then you're welcome to do so. But if the management discovers that you are a banned individual who has gained illicit access to the server, then they are required to ban you summarily. Judging by your inability to learn from your mistakes, I doubt you will be able to alter your manner in such a way to conform to the (relatively low) standards of conduct in the server, and you will most likely be banned again.

Consider this message to be the formal judgement and reasoning of your ban(s), and the rejection of your appeal(s) thus far.

Don't send me any more private messages.

He kept posting "thumbs up" emotes and emotes of the score "100%" to demonstrate how good i am. i did not even ask him what he thinks, he just complemented how good i am spontaneously.

That was before he knew i'm crazyaga. we had fun and had a good time.

After he knew i'm crazyaga, he just banned me. this just proves i was right all along

You don't seem to actually get what others are feeling, so I'm exposing the facts clearly in order for you to understand.
People don't hate names, they hate you. Look at cortfag, nobody's whining about him, because he keeps his posts on topic and provides meaningful discussion.
But you ? You've been nothing but execrable. Every post you do is an attempt at getting the attention of people, as if it was some sort of popularity contest. You talk about being the greatest, being musical, while having only released a few bad produced, bland tracks on soundcloud. You talk about being a nice person, but you can't see what you're doing wrong and blame it all on others. You talk about being "highly intelligent", but can't even stay on fucking topic.

Seriously fuck off.

are HH teles a meme?
>>
>>69597959
Did you change your tripcode to evade a ban here?
>>
>>69597969
nope.
https://youtu.be/5W_i4kF-9pg
if i'm not wrong the lead guitarist here plays a hh tele and he plays like a boss (at least i think he's cool)
>>
>>69597969
i like an hs tele, minibucker in the neck and a regular tele bridge pickup
>>
>>69597995
thanks, i just saw those 72 MIM thinline teles the other day, and now see EVERYONE playing them. i wonder if i'm missing out.
>>
>>69597969
Bodyshapes will stay body shapes to me, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with sticking humbuckers in a tele or sticking single coils in a les paul shape.
It's more a matter of ergonomics imo.
>>
>>69597948
And all of this claims did not apply when you haven't knew it's me.

We had alot of fun when i was there with a name that is not crazyaga. but just when i told you i'm crazyaga you decide to make all of this unbased claims against me.

>disruptive
I started alot of music related discussions in the discord. i admit i posted some off topic things in the general chat, but so did other people, including you.

>uncooperative
I literally participated in multiple jams with other people in the discord

>you dwell on issues that interest nobody but yourself
You could tell me to stop. you know, when i started to talk about personal issues i am dealing with, another person in the chat was there, and he told me "just go on crazyaga, there hasn't been any post in hours aniway". So the person i was actually talking to said it's fine to keep posting what im going through in my personal life.

>you're argumentative
Having arguments is a natural part of discussions. everyone have arguments, what the actual fuck are you even trying to imply?

>you're a bigot
What the actual fuck? i never posted anything that was even remotely "bigoted". how the fuck can you even make that claim?

Let me tell you something. the way you banned me was not justified in the first place. and yes, i argue with you right now because i know i'm right. your reasoning is incredibly flawed and unjustified, and it's full with claims which are downright incorrect.
>>
>>69597969
Teles in general are a meme; get one thats HSH with the 24 fret reposition and a floyd then spray paint it black and paint blood splatters over that, itll be no more of a meme then the standard tobacco burst and maple fretboard.

I wouldn't mind joining a discord chat about guitars. Can I get an invite or is it some private thing for only a few people?

>bigoted

he's right though

'religion is a detriment to society and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot; i'm right and you're all wrong'

iirc that was the gist of one of your many rants, not a lot of atheist bigots around but u definitely are one.

>Let me tell you something. the way you banned me was not justified in the first place. and yes, i argue with you right now because i know i'm right. your reasoning is incredibly flawed and unjustified, and it's full with claims which are downright incorrect.

and i think this is what he means by uncooperative. pete is a pretty reasonable guy, if you had just owned up to ur shit in the beginning and promised to be cool he probably would have let it all slide lmao. the fact that he even wrote all that shit out for you amazes me, although i do concur. crazyaga you have a bad habit of being unable to examine your actions from an outside perspective, and you also have a very selective memory, which you dont hesitate to use in these little 'i dindu nuffin' posts. like, look at your post. 'YEAH LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING IM RIGHT AND YOURE WRONG'--do you actually think that attitude is getting you anywhere? u need to check yourself dude

Ok, going into a clean amp:

MXR 5150
Friedman BE-OD
Mad Professor 1

Which one would you choose for the best hard rock and metal tones that cut through the mix in a live setting?
>>
>>69598161
Saying that religion is detrimental to society is not bigoted, it's an accurate statement.

I respect people from all ethnicities, and i think religious people can also be incredibly nice and kind people. yet i think that religion, as an ideology, had a very negative effect on society. right now as we speak, there are countries where gays like me get executed just because of religious beliefs. there are people who got radicalized because of religion. there are people who become more likely to commit suicide because they think there is an "heaven" at the after life.

So no, it's NOT a bigoted statement
>>
>>69598185
haven't tried any of them but from what i've seen off demo videos the 5150 should be the best one
>>
>>69598185
From what I've heard of it, the MXR5150 sounds pretty much like a 5150, which is perfect for metal.
The Friedman BE-OD might work nice for metal if you overdrive the amp a little bit, kinda like the old tubescreamer into overdriven amp combo.
>>

And btw, i did not just say "i dindu nothing XD".
I articulately explained why his criticisms against me are incorrect.

How do I learn how to string together good sounding chords on the fly?

Also, how do I improve on my strumming technique in general? Strumming is my weak point
>>
>>69598273
It's actually going to be a SansAmp ParaDriver DI, so not really an amp at all in actuality.

scale shapes. after memorizing basic scale shapes just learn about intervals and you're off to having basic chord voicings. it also helps since you know where to fret wherever on the fretboard to make a chord.
>>
>>69598310
get 4chanX, you can click on one of tripfag's posts and filter it easily.
>>
>>69598332
what is the next level of this after intervals? knowing more scales like the modes to do that with?
>>

>How do I learn how to string together good sounding chords on the fly?
Learn inversions and different extended versions of chords as well as a few simple substitutions. For example, the chart on the page may tell you to play C#m7, Amaj7, F#m7, G#7b9

Instead, or in addition, you can play C#m9, Amaj9, F#m7, Cdim7

or any inversions of those

Also practice playing diatonic chords as triads and extended versions. So in the key of C Major, for example, learn

C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am, Bdim, C

both moving the shapes along the neck, and in any one position that you choose.

Then do the same for

Cmaj7, Dm7, Em7, Fmaj7, G7, Am7, Bdim7

The formula for chords based on major scales is

I ii iii IV V vi viidim

and

Imaj7 iimin7 iiimin7 IVmaj7 V7 vimin7 viim7b5

for extended harmony.

Also mess with changing any chord at random to a dominant chord and see if you like the way it sounds.

For working on your strumming, maybe practice some funk rhythm stuff

>>69598293
Practice different patterns to a metrnome. If youre just strumming chords in a band its more important to fit in with everything else than having something unique, if you can do both great but dont destroy the rhythm trying to show off.

Learn what chords are in a key. Say A minor, the root will sound good with Am, Am7, Asus2(depending on the song it might be too poppy or too ambiguous), and a bunch of others, but generally the root should be pretty simple and then you can get weird from there. And you dont have to necessarily change chords. Same key, say bass player goes from C to A, you can ride Cmaj for both because C major contains 3 out of 4 notes you can use for Am7(C E G vs A C E G). Another thing you can do, if bass player is going from A to F, you can start out on Am then go to an Am6 inversion(A F A C) that would actually make it Fmaj/A(f major over a) in that instance, which would add some cool tension.

Its really open ended, and you can experiment by changing one note in a chord shape, or playing the same note in each chord, like going through a Gmaj Dmaj Em Cmaj progression but playing a D on the b string in every chord.

Build the chords out of the scale, if you want to change keys you can easily do it by finding smiliar tones between them

I'm writing a song similiar (read: plagiarised) to Babe I'm gonna leave you for a school project. I'm trying to have the same "spanish, mysterious" feel to it, since I'm in a Group with two pop-tard normie chicks, who both sing and don't play any instruments, so I'm the only one with actual musical knowledge.
Any tips?
>>
>>69598549
Actually me, same. I have so much to learn to even be a competent musician
>>
>>69598551
>spanish, mysterious
When I hear that I think of Phrygian, Phrygian Dominant, Harmonic Minor, and Al Dimeola and Paco De Lucia.

Also making the V chord major rather than minor when playing in a minor key.
