Just caught the end of the last thread so reposting

Opinions: https://clyp.it/dngy5p0a

The playing is pretty sloppy just wondering what you think of the progression/feel of it
>>
>>69331299
Can someone help me in terms of bass amps? "Trusted" or at least solid brands/models?
I know that I can't afford a bass tube amp so it'll be a transistor amp of some sort. I'd really prefer a 4-band EQ or anything else with good control over the mids.

My 8Ohm 410 cabinet can handle 500W RMS, so anything in the range of 500-300W I suppose? I often see 500W at 4Ohm and 300W at 8Ohm, that should work.
>>
>>69331338
pretty cool, if you cleaned it up a bit and ran it through some effects it could be a vinny reily kind of thing.

Solid state amps:
- Lighter
- More Durable
- Cheaper
- Good solid state amps sound great, espicially for "pure" sounding cleans

I'm seriously considering getting JC-40 some day in the future but we will see
>>
>>69331571
The only downside is that it's harder to find someone that will work on them when they go bad. Pretty soon I'm going to start hoarding Polytone Minibrutes because repairing them is more expensive than what they're selling for now.
>>
What the fuck am I doing wrong, I was just tuning my high Eb down to a Db and it fucking snapped. This has happened before when tuning my G back up from a 3 semi-tone drop. Are my strings becoming brittle? Are my tuning pegs too narrow? the break point seems to be right at the tuning peg. I haven't changed my strings in a couple months if that matters. Ernie ball 12 gauge on an acoustic / stock takamine for the G if it matters
>>
>>69331632
But from what i've heard, jazz choruses are amps that should be fine for literally decades
>>
>>69331648
could be a few things. the tuning peg might be sharp, might be because of old strings
>>
>>69331659
A lot of them develop a lot of hiss/noise doesn't bother some people but it bugs the shit out of me. I've had a couple of JC120s that had that problem.

That's the elusive Holdsworth/fusion lead tone. It's hard as fuck to replicate for some reason. You can get kind of close with low-medium gain, neck humbucker, rolled-off tone knob, a good amount of compression, and a touch of reverb or delay. But the attack of the notes is still too upfront. I don't know what they do to get rid of it. I think an anon suggested using an envelope filter a week or so ago, but I couldn't figure out how to get the parameters to work the way I needed them to

>I have a a SSH
Singlecoil neck pickup might be an issue. The bridge humbucker could probably work if you roll off the highs sufficiently

Anyway here's my attempt at replicating it with a virtual amp:

How good a guitar, amp or pedal sounds is up to you. it's subjective.

A sound which is bad for one purpose might be perfect for another purpose

What's a good 5 string bass to get for someone who's been playing guitar for a while now? I prefer something as versatile as possible, the ESP LTD basses look pretty nice and are versatile
>>
>>69331571
>- Lighter
Someone never touched a Peavey in his life
>- More Durable
No. The difference between SS and Tube is like the difference between say a 4WD car and a RWD car, it does not impact reliability. Some tube amps are basically tanks (like the 5150)
>- Cheaper
Again, on what basis ? A brand new JC-120 will run you for more than a 6505MH and a 1x12.

>>69332150
>>69332177
>I think an anon suggested using an envelope filter a week or so ago, but I couldn't figure out how to get the parameters to work the way I needed them to
I think that was me. I tried again to replicate it but just like you, I can't get rid of the attack.
Took example on holdsworth too, but since the humbucker I have in my guitar is rather high output, I can't get the same kind of overdrive either. Maybe parallel wiring is the way to go too ?
Also if you've look at holdsworth play closely, he doesn't pick a lot.
>>
>>69333578
If you want a 5 string with basically almost the same neck as a guitar, there's the Ibanez SR.
12" radius and ~4ish cm wide at the nut, so it has a very similar feel to a guitar.
The EQ will give you enough tone to go from funk to thrash metal with ease too.
>>
>>69333578
>I prefer something as versatile as possible
Sire Marcus Miller M7, without a doubt. If that's too much money then a Sire V7 would be considerably cheaper and also pretty versatile.
>>
>new amp is here but not allowed to so much as smell it until Christmas
Not even a testing session to make sure everything is actually fine. It's a hard life.

On the plus side it means I'm in the market for a juicy delay. Seen the RV-3 rec'd here sometimes for the added extra versatility, but anything I can find for under £100 used would be great.
>>
Bought a used 100w tube combo (shit make tho, "fame" brand)
I made the mistake of disconnecting a external cab while it was in Standby mode - the fuse blew and now, it only works when a external speaker is connected (the internal ones don't work) and is really quiet at that.
Does that mean I have to exchange the tubes or just half of them? Which ones?

Jazz, prog rock, avant garde.

I don't use any effects for the jazz stuff, but when playing with my band I use an OD, wah, delay, chorus, and tuning pedal. It's sort of a "bare minimum" setup but I can get pretty much any sound out of it.

Is it a 50's or 60's neck? I picked up the Sig T due to it having the slim taper 60's neck over the LP Traditional which has a rounded 50's, I can't adjust to the thicker necks due to I mostly play Fenders with Japanese necks. The knobs are Gibson gold reflectors it did come with the same knobs as yours initially.

Marshall MG30CFX, gets a lot of criticism around here but the clean and crunch are fine. Just make sure it's the new Carbon Fiber Series. Cranks louder than a bedroom and can be had right at $100 used. Effects are thin but I don't use them. Reverb is OK. Get a foot switch with it and it's a tuner. There are some others but hardly near that magic number.

Its a starter guitar, they're all going to be relative crap. If you're a brand new player that stuff is fine but of you've been playing for a bit id reccomend saving and buying something a bit nicer. Noise suppressor is the only one I absolutely need to get through a set. OD is next most important to make the tone tighter. Then reverb, delay, and tremolo for some leads

>>69339399
More specifically, scooped mids make it difficult for bass to cut through the mix. So it gets in to a situation of bass being inaudible or bass turned way too loud, in either case the whole thing sounds bad. Very general rule for live bass eq is to have mids at 12 o]clock and tweak bass and treble as desired.

It's alright in the studio because the engineer will have lots more control over the mix and can make it work. Although the engineer is probably going to tell you to turn the mids up anyway.

I don't have that much of an issue with overall noise in my signal, so I use the NS-2 in front just to gate the guitar and control feedback. And I know most people go NS2 -> TS9, but it seems to work better for me when the overdrive is first for some reason

Also I've tried running the NS-2 in front and through the effects loop at the same time like some people do, but I couldn't find a setting that would work for me when I did that. It either wouldn't gate enough or would cut out all sound

Yes, order matters, usually. If the kick was puth together specifically for your amp they should say which one is v1, v2, etc if it matters and they're reputable. Some require a special tube in 1 spot, or 2 matched tubes in the other.

also guitarpro's really fucky if you ever use the staff, half of the time I want to write in D standard for example, if I write a tab, the sheet won't match and will be as if I wrote a tab in E standard. Or you can get some complete gibberish when writing something in a specific key, like having a sharp, then a neutral, then a flat.
They're minor inconveninences but they really get on my nerves, especially if I spend ten minutes wondering why a specific note's written as if it was out of key when it's actually not.
Other than that, it's a good tool, I like it a lot for writing drum parts too as it's very intuitive.

It's a great pedal, really. You can get one for $50 used, it's a classic sound that's been heavily copied and used for close to 50 years. It's by no means the best at what is does, or the most flavorful, but it'll give you what you expect at a low price point. I didn't believe the meme til I got the tone wicker, now I find myself using it all the time. I don't even use distortion or overdrive pedals really.

Yeah I am aware of all of those, including the >>69341967 MXR but those are all either way too expensive or straight out unavailable here in eastern europe without importing them and paying ridiculous taxes.

Can you be a bit more elaborate on why you disliked bass preacher? That was honestly the one I was warmed up towards the most, everyone seems to like it on talkbass too.

That out of the picture, my choices are Marshall's ED1, waiting couple of months until a DOD Milkbox pops up in the ads, or trying one of the joyo's myself.

Ocasionally you can find an EBS multicomp used but they go for ~120 euros (130 usd). I can spring that much for it if I have to but I'd really rather not.

It's possible mine has a poor connection somewhere but I have found it to be inconsistent. Like every once in a while the compression didn't kick on for half a second. It was pretty also noisy. I need to open it up and have a look at the wiring to see what's going on. My experience does not seem to be consistent with others on this pedal.

I'm playing a mexi J bass, running through a compressor then the B3K, to a Kustom 1300 (which is a surprisingly clean amp) and Ampeg 410 and 118. I let the amp control the eq; I boost the bottom end, lay back the mids a tiny hair, and add a little treble. I picked up the B3K over the B7K because I didn't need more tone control than blend and drive, honestly. I keep the blend favoring the clean sound of the bass and adjust the drive for how much color I want. The amp's eq is mostly for the clean sound anyway, it just so happened that I very much liked the driven sound the same way.

I have a problem with picking fast. After a certain point I can't tell if I am actually picking the string as soon as I hit it with my fretting hand, or If I am just hitting the string randomly and the notes are being hammered on/pulled off. Is there any way to tell the difference?
>>
>>69343653
Record yourself and slow it down
>>
Ordered an Agile Les Paul from RONDO, got it set up, and it literally plays better than my gibson custom shop. Why dont more people order these?
>>
>>69343683
How weird does it look irl? It looked on the website like it's very wide compared to a les paul
>>
Anyone ever play a guitar from puresalem? It seems to be the easiest path to getting a lefty mustang. Is it worth the 800 bucks? I'm skeptical but figure it's worth a shot.

1. I did it because people in thread incorrectly claimed the opposite to insult me.

I was defending myself

2. Your assertion that people only brag about thins that aren't true is incorrect

>>

Give it a rest dude. Who are you trying to prove it to, us or yourself? 4chan isn't a place you come to when you want validation in your real life.
>>
>>69343943
I'm very confident about my own intelligence.
I just really hate it when people say things about me which are completely incorrect.

If people told you "You belive in korean shamanism", you might want to correct them, even though you are extremely confident you do not believe in korean shamanism
>>
>>69343998
I don't give a damn what anyone thinks about me aside from my mother and my girl. Especially people I have never met.
>>
Should I give up classical and fingerstyle and start playing music that girls like?
>>
>>69344072
I care enough what others think that i want them to know the truth, but i don't care enough to let their opinions effect me in a signifncant negative way
>>
>>69344103
fingerstyle is like the number 1 thing to impress girls
>>
>>69344103
Why not do both? I mean, "country" music as all the white girls in flannel like to think of it as, is incredibly simple. Hope you can sing.
>>
>>69343998
>If people told you "You belive in korean shamanism", you might want to correct them
no, because this is an anonymous imageboard, thus I don't have any image associated with my own person
oh, no, if only there was a way to drop that nasty identifying tripcode !

>>69344103
rev up those hands in the air because you sure as hell ain't touching a midi controller if you want to impress girls with some good old 4/4 EDM
>>
>>69344139
I did not claim that you in particular will defend yourself and say you do not believe in korean shamanism, i said that people, in general, might want to do that, because correcting false assertions makes sense.
>>
>>69344130
No, songwriting/singing is.

>>69344134
I can't write lyrics.
>>
>>69344139
>>69344152
And let me add this:
I posted anonymously before, and i still corrected false assertions people made about me
>>
>>69344157
Lyrics for that kind of music are fucking cake. Anyways, you don't impress them with originals, turn on the radio, take notes. Learn those songs and you're golden.

Also, classical doesn't work for modern country, at least in a solo setting.

>>

You're unreal bro, I have to assume there's some dissonance stemming from translation and difference in culture, but you're just something else.

You're in a losing battle. You can't fight true ignorance with argument, or even education in most cases. It can only be defeated by putting the answers in front of someone but not showing them where they are. If you would have just acted intelligent instead of clamoring on about it people would have seen it, instead you got on your high horse and went galloping through the thread shouting to high heavens about how great you are. In the end you didn't sway anybody, you just looked like an asshole.

You're defeating yourself.

Tel Aviv is basically a middle eastern new-york.

Have an example of good israeli music (a bit uncommon btw):

My parents told me they are going to buy me one gift for Christmas this year, a guitar or another instrument. It needs to be around $4-500. I play guitar every day and have been playing since i was a kid but never bought a decent guitar because i could just play my dads. what do i get?

Are you going to stick with guitar? Are you almost at the age where you'll be moving out? If so, I would get a guitar. Go try a bunch out, but remember. $500 will buy a decent new guitar, or you could with little struggle find a great used guitar.

The context of the conversation - i made this post showing a picture of Tel Aviv because i was asked if israel really is a first world country.

I assumed he was calling me ignorant because he did not believe israel is a first world country, which is sensible within the context of the conversation.

Taste in music is subjective, btw.

Squire Classic Vibe Tele's are pretty great and fall on the 400 side of your budget.

i have a classic vibe tele

they are p nice for the money, but i find the frets are really low/small. great for rhythm playing but annoying as hell to bend on

>>
>>69344594
Telecaster was my first guitar, and for a first guitar it was really great, but as I progressed I felt it wasn't keeping up with me. But then again that was because I wanted to have different shit to experiment with -- humbuckers, wammy bar, higher frets, etc.

Okay what is the deal with Rondo? I go there and it's like late 90's era web design a million guitars made by China and nearby countries, all super cheap.

Is that the trick? Rondo is basically a street side chinese vender of ripoffs, but they're based in the US?

>tfw I went from playing only death and thrash to fingerstyle country/pop

I get invited tons of bonfire parties now because people find out I can play their meme pop/country songs. Girls always come up and say how good I am even though I was a shredder for years and its easy as fuck. LIFE ON EZ MODE.
>>
>>69344688
fender made a limited run of them, called the fender jaguar blacktop. they float around the used market.

the smart thing to do is just buy a regular jaguar then get an aftermarket pickguard/pickups.

Congrats on outgrowing the teenage metal and shred thing. A lot of people just want to hear fun tunes they can dance and sing along to. Sure there's smaller audiences for more technical and complex songwriting but the more niche you go, the smaller the audience will be.
>>
>>69344841
If you want a p90 offset check out the new line of Mustangs too. If you can't find a jag that can do most of the same thing, it won't have a Trem though.

For instance, say on rare occasion I actually persuade a girl to go out with me and she wants to see me play bass, I could jump straight in to complex jazz for the 'wow that seems really hard' factor, but what usually wins them over is playing something recognizable and groovy like Santeria or some 311 or what have you.
