guitar feels greentext incoming

>Be two years ago
>playing in senior year football game
>take huge hit to the side of the right arm on a play.
>arm goes numb
>can barely move it

2 weeks go by still can't move

>go to hospital
>nerve_damage.jpg
>not life or career ending, but still needs months of therapy to fix

After month 3 I can finally move it good enough to start playing guitar again

>can barely pick at 60bpm 1/4th notes
>basically have to regain all my picking speed
>all the metal songs I could play go out the window have to play slow blues and childrens songs for practice

Finally successfully played the Jester Race solo last week. I know it isn't a crazy hard solo, but it is one of my favorites to play and it felt good to do it again after almost 2 years. Also I know this is a shitty greentext I'm pretty bad at it.
>>
>>69345574
It was all right, anon. I'm glad you recovered.
I would probably end myself if i lost the ability to play permanently or something like that
>>
should i buy a bunch of cables from china?
at around 4 dollars per 3m cable, it could save me some money; currently i spend around 10 and they still break pretty often.
the patch cables on my pedalbaord are chink and i got them on a bulk for $4 and they're working fine after over a year.

He's a hilarious and grouchy old Jewish guy with a hilarious Canadian accent who does professional setups, repairs, and loads of other stuff and walks you through everything he does and why so you can learn to do your own setups and repairs. He's good not only for the educational value but he's entertaining as hell with his rants.

I don't want to sound like a shill, but Dave is the sole reason I started doing all my own guitar work really understanding the instrument better.

I don't advise it. You'd think that a cable is just a cable but I've had it where cheap cables have loose jacks and other nonsense.

I highly recommend you don't skimp on your basics. You don't have to pay a fortune but get a good cable, you'll have peace of mind and your shit will perform better. The only time I'd recommend cheap cables is you get some absurdly cheap deal or you already own them and they seem to be working decently enough. It was always a wild card for me when I'd buy cheap shit so I stopped.
>>
>>69345326
Is that a bass guitar tuned to EADGBE? do want
>>
>>69348185
It's a Les Paul
I did, the saddles are pushed all the way back and the low e and treble strings are sharp. Not too much but enough to say it's not intonated properly. I wouldn't give a damn if it wasn't for the fucking out of tune notes at the first frets
>>
>>69347836
I have two Strats, and one of them is absolutely brutal with 10s on it. They feel like 12s tuned to E standard and I'm not exaggerating.

I just roll with it. The guitar never did get "easy" to bend on but after the technique gains came from crippling arthritis bends the pain went away.

ERB tunings are symmetrical, all in 4ths, so I can move the same shapes anywhere on the neck and they work. With a guitar, you have almost all 4ths, with one major 3rd that throws everything off.

I am a big fan of the Elixir strings, they sound fantastic and last much longer than normal ones. Chords in the bass register sound like ass except if you keep the bass note there and play everything else an octave up (it's called "weite Lage" in German, no clue what it's called in English). Bass players do this a lot but it limits you and you can't really make use of all those strings in that case. The other guy is an idiot for thinking perfect 4th tuning is superior in some form, but I don't see how standard guitar tuning makes sense on a bass instrument.

Can someone help me out? I have been playing some songs on a classical guitar with nylon strings for a while now. I went to play those same songs on my electric guitar last night and it was a bit easier on me, I didn't have to push down as hard on the strings, it was just a lot easier. I don't know if part of it is the wider fretboard on the classical or the fact I seem to have heard some people on here saying that you have to push down harder on nylon. Have I been meme'd? I like the nylon and think it sounds good and all that but I am starting to wonder if I should try playing on a steel string acoustic. I just don't know if it would be suitable for what I am playing.

If you're going to keep playing classical stick with the nylon, steel acoustics have a different tone and you would do ok but it wouldn't totally sound the same

Yeah, me too. But as rhythm player, you need those delays to be right. My lead player bought a BOSS delay without tap tempo and when he switches from single notes to chords at various points, it can throw the whole fucking band off when the repeats are all out of whack.

I don't even really understand what the argument is though. Timing is everything in music. I'd rather not use a delay pedal at all than have one that doesn't add to the flow of the song.

What is the name of the song that starts at about 10 seconds in? https://youtu.be/e-yA_HZrKUg

oh so some detail on what I'll be using it for, pretty much all round, playing with some mates and just practicing aswell. nothing to intensive or anything
>>
>>69357854
In that case you'd probably be better off with a strat
>>
>>69356236
It is pretty expensive. I haven't got one but all the demos I've heard online make it look good. I would probably get the B7K but since you wanted an OD and you are using a passive jazz bass I recommended the microtubes instead.
>>
how do i learn to play black metal, where do i even start?
>>
>>69357826
I have that guitar. It has a really thick neck so make sure to test it somewhere first. That being said it is still my favorite out of all the guitars I own
>>
>>69358162
Learn to alternate pick, learn to also be able to play chords with a pinky, and, well, then you can try and figure out songs, or look up lessons.
>>
>>69358146

Honest I'd just get one of those cool ass Orange heads with the blend and the drive in or a Marshall Super Bass and drive it but I'm poor and shit.

I'm driving a solid-state Acoustic 270 head from the 70s so any dirt I stack on my bass through that really does a number to my bass low end.

I should just treble the fuck out of everything a-la Geddy Lee.
>>
>>69358201
what chords should i be focusing on?
>>
>>69358162
You're got to be a total retard to not figure it out on your own.
>>
>>69358300
Depends on the song. Look at this Burzum song( if you consider that black metal) . The main riff is just simple power chords.

Dial in the shittiest tone on your amp as possible and do nothing but alt pick as fast as you can for a few months
>>
>>69358186
ive got pretty fuckin big hands so the think neck should help i guess

I followed the guide by Fodera. My Bass now has the exact "Fodera"-low action. Feels and plays great.

I just found this pick that i used to use when i was 14 years old, i actually used to practice a lot and now i only sit down for 10 minutes and do nothing with the fucking guitar, i think it's time to step up my game

I posted this in the last thread but my parents are buying me a guitar for Christmas since i am no longer living with them and don't own a decent one. My budget is around $400. I play indie and progressive rock. what should I get?

In what sense m8?

Excactly that guitar. Mustang with p90s

There's no danger using a solid state amplifier's fx loop in order to record through an interface, right ?

>start learning guitar

There's literally no point in having people to play with if you can't even play on your own. It sounds like you're just making excuses. Learn basic chords and practice changing back and forth between them to build hand strength. Then start learning simple beginner songs.
>>
>>69345860
I actually respect his work, and his videos. I just cant stand his shitty attitude. He seems like the guy you could only be friends with for short periods and then you'd need a break.
>>
>>69359724
Well, the scene here is pretty much "musica de banda" idk how else to refer it, and small groups here play stuff like Ska or Reggae along with the always present metal players (very low quality ones btw). Mostly you'll only find romantic trios and bands because that's what gets the most money.
>>
>>69346075
Does no one see the irony of this post?
>>
>>69359954
Yeah? what do you play?
>>
>>69360005
Mostly dadrock, i actually played a couple years on one of those romantic trios with some friends to get some cash, but i hate that kind of music and got out and never looked back. I can't stand Joan Sebastian and Juan Gabriel anymore
>>
Has anybody tried one of those Marshall Code amps? Looks like the perfect amp for jamming in your bedroom and plugging into your PC to use with a DAW
>>
>>69359626
I like the general point/lesson he's trying to get across, but yeah, he's not very good. That first loop was painful, and his "improvisation" at the end might have been even worse.
>>
>>69359805
>>69359597
well, I am doing this but I'm overwhelmed by everything.

Guess I'll just stop caring about this
>>
>>69359980
True genius isn't appreciated in its time.
>>
>>69360230

It's very, very overwhelming at first, but trust me it gets easier in the long run.

Focus on being able to play shit right and being comfortable with your guitar now. When the "lmao myxodickolidyan 10th mode E# microtonal arpeggio inversion" shit comes along you're gonna want to be able to play that shit smoothly so focus.
>>
>>69360230
It's not easy. You're not gonna git gud overnight. Take it one step at a time. Like most things in life, you only get out what you're willing to put in. Keep practicing.
>>
>>69360230
Something I wish I was doing when I started playing is to just do basic drills every day to build up speed and dexterity, just doing really basic stuff like playing 1-2-3-4 on the first string, then 1-2-3-4 on the second string, and then 4-3-2-1 when you get to the last string, and then move it up one fret when you're back at the first fret. Playing to a metronome is also important, and making sure your left hand and right hand are synchronized.

https://youtu.be/6VApk-vvhp8?t=2065

This is one of the best instructional videos for guitar that goes through a lot of different concepts and drills, but some of it might be a bit overkill for new players
