I have a MiJ Tele with a 7.25 radius neck from the factory. I don't have tiny Jap hands so 7.25 feels way too cramped. if I buy a MiM neck that's 9.5 will it fit?
>>
>>68396031
MiJ neck pickets are wider than MiM ones. So no, it wouldn't.
>>
>>68396031
Radius has nothing to do with string spacing. What you want to look at is nut width and I'm pretty sure all fender have the same width

Emailed this guy when I was confused about what to stick in my OR15. You fill out a form and talk about what kind of sound you want to achieve with your amp, and he can make suggestions based on that.

Replacing tubes isn't hard. For preamp tubes (labeled likely 12AX7 or 12AT7 in your amps, are stubby little things), you can just pull the old ones when you need to change them, and stick new ones in. Wiggle them around, side to side, as you pull them out to make sure they come out easy.

Depending on your amp, the power tubes (I think labeled EL84 on your amp) might not be as simple. Often you need to adjust some voltages on your amp (biasing) when you replace power tubes, in order to make sure the amp will be running safely and that none of the components will be damaged.

Do some google work anon, and go to that website. You'll figure it out

JJ makes good stuff, but I wouldn't jump on anything right away. I would read up on the options you have from a few different manufacturers, read some reviews, maybe email that dude. Give it some time, consider your choices. I'd also read up a bit more just on the basics of tube amp operation so you know a little more about what the parts of your amp do, at least the preamp and power sections.

Best of luck anon, tube amp larnin' is a fun road to stumble down

Guitar sounds good, not sure if you were asking for guitar only advice but I'm bored and a drummer at heart.

First thing that jumped out at me was that you're alternating two very different snare samples which sounds very strange. Not sure if you were trying to emphasize one over the other but the timbres are way off and unnatural sounding.
Then you've got this tom pattern going on which sounds like something that would belong in a breakdown or bridge, not in a refrain and certainly not a verse. Just doesn't fit and takes away from what you're doing on guitar in my opinion.
>>
>>68397124
if you're going to do the whole 'lazy guitar part with a bumping rhythm section' then you can't use a stock drum track from garageband and have it repeat the same thing for the entire song.

i also think the drum track is a little too busy anyway, it should have fewer notes but more accents/punctuation like symbols and short simple fills. think john bonham on when the levee breaks.

a few guitar fills would be easy spice, and maybe a more interesting/present bassline. i couldnt even tell if the bass was doing anything beyond playing root notes.
>>
>>68397263
easiest thing would be to add a few high sustain tremolo'd notes, like a whole/double whole note and just use a quarter note rhythm tremolo and let it fade out, like bwanabwanawanawanawana...
>>
Seeing as the other anon posted a thing he is working on, I'll do the same! Currently in the process of writing a solo. Plan on dual tracking left and right guitars. The tracks are still the first thing I recorded so some of the playing might be off tempo in places. It also isn't mixed or mastered properly.

Every guitarist in my school wanted a jackson V

Every guitarist had a shredtastic shit-tastic badly intonated Floyd Rose locking nut Ibanez running through a Metal Zone and played nothing but sweeps and tapping.

And I do mean every single one. Even the only other bassist had a shitty 100$ starter pack Ibanez bass.

And of course the rich parents kid who had a Gibson Les Paul Custom but couldn't play his way out of a cardboard box.

moar theory is the answer. keep learning songs via sheet music. patterns/intervals will emerge and you'll begin to figure out the keys to tasty licks.

play with others, practice your improv. take a tip from based keef and keep it simple stupid. let the notes/accents/rhythm do the talking, not the speed.

Do any of you know what you call it when you substitute the V chord in a progression with the ii chord?

I know it works because the 5th 7th 9th and 11th of G major is the same as the 1st 3rd and 5th and 7th of D minor 7, for example.

We're doing basic chord substitutions in Uni and we've been tought tonic function and tritone substitution etc, but not this.

Cheers.

>>68402482

You meant D major, G major has F# in its key signature.
It really just depends on what the chord is moving to. If that V chord moves to the tonic, then I would probably leave it since a ii chord doesn't have a very strong pull since it has no leading tone.

Brahms has used a ii7->I cadence before in his music, it's not traditional obviously.

In a musical context we would probably see that seventh of the ii used as a suspension while the chords below resolve to C.
So in macro analysis I wouldn't have even called it a ii7, but rather just a ii while the melody does whatever it wants.

Just call it a ii7 in the harmonic analysis and call it a day.
Justify it the same way Brahms or Wagner did any of their music.

Interesting. Why would it be considered a suspension? I mean I get that the C is held from the Dm7 to the C.

The melody actually hits a D over the Dm7 before moving to E, if that means anything. So both the C and D notes at there, next to each other. That shouldn't really change the chord name, should it?

I was simply suggesting in most cases in classical music that I've seen(mostly from the Renesaince era prior to more common tonality, but before the loss of the rigid ruleset that drove the baroque and classical era) it would have been used as a suspension,
In this case, just pretend it's not very important, don't stress out about it too much.
Ask your professor if he wants it a certain way, he's there to teach. Your work shouldn't be a guessing game, but you'll find in music that there are more solutions than just one.

Everyone had a fucking acoustic during late high school, and most of them just played simple I IV V vi progressions when procrastinating (read : smoking the devil's cabbage).

Most people are going to simply tell you "learn scales and improvise," and while that's a huge part of learning to solo, it's basically like telling someone starting a new language "learn the alphabet and make up words."

In addition to learning scales and improvising, learn solos that you like or licks from a certain style. This is a hugely important part of developing lead technique and basically how every soloist learned, consciously or not.

I'm also a cello player, so there's less mind-fuckery when switching between the tunings.

Obviously as a cello player, I find fifths more comfy to play with rather than fourths and that retarded transition to a major third in the middle of your the original guitar tuning.

I don't care for playing covers so I never run into a problem of not being able to play something that was written for the guitar tuning.

That makes sense. I've spent a good amount of time with fifths tunings/instruments and appreciate its use.

I find fifths tunings are best suited for single-note, melodic stuff. "Traditional" standard tuning is very useful when you approach it from a chord perspective (especially voice-leading). That "retarded" major third actually makes many chord fingerings much simpler and more comfortable.

Apologies. I shouldn't have bashed on that major third that much.

It's just that when I was starting out with guitar, it frustrated me beyond belief because I was so used to cellos and I retuned to fifths when I found out that Fripp plays it (was always too scared 'cause I thought it'd ruin my guitar's neck or something).

I agree that to a certain extent, playing melodies with chords can be a bit difficult on fifths.
>>
>>68405439
It's extremely difficult.
Bach only wrote a handful of Fugues for the solo Orchestra instruments.

And the one that triggers MIDI synths. Sometimes the tracking is really disappointing in the low register (especially on my low C + shortscale), but on the higher strings, it tracks really well.

That's basically all my gear... and two expression/volume pedals.
>>
>>68405439
No worries. I have a bad tendency to come to standard tuning's defense, even though I constantly mess with tunings and different instruments.

I actually really enjoy attempting chord-melody stuff with fifths tunings, and I wasn't trying to be overly negative. But I still have a hard time avoiding excessive parallel movement or awkward interval jumps (compared with standard). I really love the wide interval chord voicings that are possible with it.
>>
>>68405776
Same here. On several occasions, I have attempted to convert standard stuff to the fifths tuning, and sometimes the sacrifices or changes in the way you climb the scales/licks, or invert the chords make up for a very fresh sound and perspective.

I've been shopping around for a new smallish but still capable of band practice level volume with some headroom for a while now. Tried pretty much everything the stores in my city sells in the 100-300w range, combo or head.

Decided on pic related. Gallien-Krueger MB200 head. A close first place for my favorite tone of the lot in the general price range. Near second place was the Traynor 200w head. Traynor is a Canadian company that doesn't seem to export out of the country much. Traynor is a good company worth checking out if you live in Canada.

Anyway, the GK thing is teeny tiny. 7.75" x 8" and weighs two pounds.

So guys I need an honest opinion. Do I really need to know "real" chords to be a great guitarist? It's hard to remember them all but it sounds good when I just put my fingers in random places on the strings. Are chords a meme?

I wanna get one of those and turn into a 9 string like the guitar Matt Pike had.

can anyone tell if there's a bass guitar playing in this song starting at about 10 seconds in?

I would go with single coil pickups, bright amp + slap back echo.

What semi-hollow do you have, your pickups might be too warm sounding.

I meant hollow, not semi-hollow but it's a Washburn j3.

Which pedal would be best for slapback echo?
Would an MiM Tele be a decent guitar choice?
>>
Hey everyone I'm looking to get space rock (similar to hum
Or duster) sound out of my gear. I currently have a Gibson sg and a fender deville, I don't wish to buy another amp or guitar; what pedals do you think would aid me in this pursuit here are the pedals I currently have:
Sans tabs amp
Eqd Jr disaster transport
Way huge swollen pickle
Mxr phase 100
Mxr blue box
>>
>>68408130
Guitar i like passives better but that is partly because i rarely play with distortion. Bass i have had both good and bad experiences with active pups, my opinion depends on how well the actives play with any given amp.

>>
>>68408596
It's going to be a little hard to get that sound out of a J3, the mim telecaster would be perfect though.

As for a pedal, I like the Danelectro Spring King since it actually uses a real spring reverb instead of a digital approximation.

what is a great (tube preferably) amp for cleans basically? like a dark tone, something really warm. and good with pedals

just a few tho. im getting a mxr analog chorus, mr black supermoon, and a mad professor golden cello overdrive/delay for just the amp.

Either you're slightly out of tune or your intonation is off. Also most of your bends hit a little sharp or flat. But the quick bits are clean and the composition is pretty good, definitely worth making a song out of

Fuck it, why not?

Friendly reminder: the kiddies who post in /gg/ threads have nearly ***zero*** experience concerning guitar. Playing, repair, new player recommendations, etc. The average age in these threads is around early 20s: green as shit grass.

If you have an actual question this is probably one of the most uninformed & least knowledgeable places you could ever expect a proper answer to come from.

Be weary of any advice given here as it's amateur & perfunctory at best.

Have a nice day.

Also, friendly side note:

Anyone posting their gear here has made a decision (either consciously or unconsciously) that playing guitar is nothing more than a meaningless hobby, something along the lines of stamp or coin collecting. Their uninformed opinions and amateur advice are firmly rooted in this unserious mindset, music being secondary to the compulsion to accumulate and publicly display their "enviable" possessions.

4chan is considered poison by most mature adults and is rightly shunned publicly for its immature, juvenile, and sometimes vile content. Lorde and the bassist from DIIV immediately spring to mind, both being heavily criticized for posting on 4chan and for their seeming willingness to be connected publicly to /mu/. No one with any real goals or aspirations would risk being contaminated with an association to this website, thus no serious musician would chance being recognized by posting their gear here. The only people who would be willing to subject themselves to this possibility would be the kind of hopeless, self-defeating troglodytes that routinely post on 4chan because they know they don't have any other options and nothing better (or more important) to do with their time. If you're posting on this site then you should be very familiar and thoroughly acquainted with this standard model 4chan user. There's no deliberate or pragmatic pursuit of knowledge or skill in these threads, just inane, unending circle jerking around gear, attention whoring, and fishing for replies.

For example: Aussiefag has been here for well over two years accomplishing absolutely nothing except for *getting some attention for himself*. The sad truth is that he has nothing else, this is his legacy: replying to other losers in /gg/ threads because his life is obviously devoid of any other social interaction.

If your goal is to wind up like this then posting gear here ad nauseum and avoiding actual musical discussion is definitely a good place to start.

Carry on.

I had to take out guitar and look at my hand to see what I do for this as i wasn't sure. It's both, depending on speed. Fairly slow picking was all fingers, then more wrist involvement the faster I got. Picking as fast as I can is mostly wrist. I don't know if that's bad technique.
