Anyone have any experience with these? I was watching Deerhoof's Rig Rundown video recently and saw Ed Rodriguez uses one of these through a generic 1x12. Not sure if that's what they were using when I was saw them live in 2014 but their setup sounded gr8 then. They're $300 new and seem like the most practical thing for my situation.
>>

reddit is usually great for faq/intro-type info on a topic but for some reason /r/guitar is fucking stage iv cancer. never trust anything posted there.

cv tele's are fine but what are you playing now?

on a cv tele right now

i like it well enough but i find the strat body a lot more comfortable to play sitting down, whcih is my preferred setup.

Literally any overdrive since you don't need complex breakup or anything like that. The soul food (klon clone) is really good for the price.

Anyone ever tried to blend a clean signal and a boss HM2 ? I'm curious about it, but I don't have an HM2, I think it could sound interesting.
Why do so little distortion pedals have a clean blend anyway ? It's most likely not that hard to wire.

They started to suck after Taylor left the band.

As great of a rythym guitarist as Keith Richards was, he was an absolute prick to Taylor and was always jealous of his playing. Those three albums they did together showcased the band at it's tightest.

I read once that Rory Gallagher was asked to join the band after Taylor left and actually flew to England to rehearse with them. He decided not to after seeing how fucked up everyone was on drugs. Now THAT would have been a dream team.
>>
>>68377936
The Boss SD-1 is a great OD pedal for blues and jazz rock. I usually set the tone all the way down and keep the gain and volume at 12 o'clock on mine. You can get some awesome sustain with that setting.

It can be a little rough sounding with the stock components, but if you get the Keeley mod for it, it'll sound even better. It's not a bad pedal at all. I've had mine for four years and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.
>>
>>68378045
>he was an absolute prick to Taylor and was always jealous of his playing

i highly doubt that, from everything i've read about keith he was very happy as the rhythm guitarist, and actually wasn't very comfortable being a 'rock star' like mick was. maybe there was some friction at times, but that's pretty normal.
>>
>>68377936
>not p90 neck/humbucker bridge

weird but i prefer seeing this to another fucking faded lp. in addition to the ones already suggested a boss bd-2 would probably also work well.

Is worth shelling out $250-300 extra to get a Deluxe Reverb over a Hot Rod Deluxe/Deville? I don't really need the extra features with the latter and want something that's both reasonable for playing in a house and gigging eventually.

Anyone here familiar with amp modelling pedals like AmpliFire, POD HD etc.? Strongly considering trying something like this put, but after looking online, I see a lot of people claim that they'll only sound proper through a PA or a keyboard amp, as a guitar amp will colour the sound too much, even if you're just going in through the effects loop.
>>
>>68378577
THis is pretty normal and if you're asking if it's ok, it's ok
>>
>>68378806
I'm just looking if someone else here does it.

>>

It's not intended as multi effects unless you disable the modeling bit. It's like you're mic'ing up an amp and feed through another amp if you don't, of course it'll sound like arse.

My Pod X3 has an output switch for amp or direct. If you use the amp side and run the amp clean, it sounds just fine. You can also tweak it and run with no cab on the model and this works well too.
I have presets for both amp through and headphone through, I think just because some doofus got it sounding good through headphones, then plugged in an amp and got shit, he then blamed the POD for his fuck up, and the meme stuck. These can be very complicated or simple devices depending on how much effect is layered until it just sounds bad. It's just better to keep a simple signal path.

We all love Richards but the truth is he was a heavy drug addict back then, I wouldn't be surprised if he was an asshole at that time. Taylor did the right thing, although I do agree that the five albums they recorded with him are their best era.

>>68378045
I fucking love Gallagher but not even him could have saved the band at that moment of their career, they were meant to suffer the consequences of their lifestyle. Once they got over it they started making good rock music in the 90's.

If only Rory was still alive today.

As much as I like a properly set up Floyd Rose, floating trems can be a tremendous pain in the ass. Besides, you still get the fine tuning keys on the bridge, they stay in tune much, much better and you can finally do those sweet double bends without sounding like shit.

He's one of my favorite guitarists ever. Maybe he didn't get as much recognition as other contemporaries, but Jimmy Page could only dream about being as nearly good as him.

My favorite is probably Deuce, coming straight from Taste he was at the right place at the right moment. Calling Card has some amazing hits too, and there is something charming about Blueprint's raw playing. My father got me into him, he saw him live back in the 77 and still claims to be the best guitarist he has ever seen live.

>>68380479
I don't know, I love Keith but he surely had his bad moments too, and drugs don't help with that. I'd trust Taylor's on this, the band was probably going really down.

>>68381859
Yes.
What's up?
>>
>>68379026
That wouldn´t make kerry king not atonal. I would say makes it more atonal actually as fusion atonality tends to be well thought to sound in a way which at the end will resolve into key, which will make the off key elements related to the key in one way or another. Kerry king sounds just random shit unrelated to the key, which makes it actually more off key . Also, i really doubt he doesnt know his shit. Early slayer solos tend to be more tonal (check out the show no mercy stuff like the antichrist... and some songs in seasons in the abyss also).
>>
>>68382114
m8 if I have a few thousands saved up they're going for a car and a licence, not an instrument that's not going to bring me anything more than what I can get with a $500 one and a few handy mods.
>>
>>68382166
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nczS0YAtl5I

Kerry King is simply not atonal, being atonal does not simply mean playing it wrong key, it means avoiding any kind of tonality(it also tends to sound like you don't know what you're doing even if you do).
Kerry King always falls into some kind of tonality, some 12 tone rows accidently do it even.

Is it possible to lower the action on an acoustic?
>>
>>68382279
3 ways. Truss rod, nut and bridge. Truss rod can be adjusted, nut and bridge can be filed down or have shims added to lower/raise action.
>>
>>68382345
truss rod is for adjusting string relief, not action. you should always adjust action at the bridge on any guitar or bass, and most of the time you shouldn't even have to touch the nut.
>>
>>68382369
It's part of the action if the neck is bowed. I was assuming the poster wasn't a total and complete retard.
>>
>>68382345
Buy another nut to change it in wet seasons (when guitars tend to absorb water and the bridge is raised and so is the action). It is the easier way really.
>>
>>68382279
A couple ways, but you have to be wary that the guitar itself(woods all the way around) are correct.
Your nut might not be filed enough, requires particular size files.
Your saddle might not be low enough, taking some material off could help, requires knowledge and some fine sandpaper.(mark how much material you want off)
Your neck could be bowing a bit, take relief out or put some in using the truss rod.

If none of those helped, then it's a bigger issue.
Your bridge could be pulling up or too high out of the factory.
Your neck could have a hump in it due to lack of humidity, this causes the neck to rise up to meet the body which creates buzzing, sometimes higher action is used to counter this.

There's a myriad of things it could be.
>>
>>68382422
Or you could just buy a decent case and keep the guitar between 45% and 55% humidity all through the year?
>>
>>68382274
You are right, like the meme system with rules like passing through all other 11 notes before repeating or some shit like that. I meant general off key soloing, not atonality.
>>

Might be different for you, but "battle of the bands" events are probably the worst representation of local music, since they're run by shady promoters that prey on inexperienced musicians.

Are there any DIY venues or house shows in your area? That's probably going to have a more cohesive "scene" than what you'd find at a typical venue, especially ones doing BotB kind of things.

What're some good guitars for cheesy 80s shredding for recording/studio use, with a locking tremolo and a humbucker in the bridge? Preferably strat style with bright colors. Does basswood suck?

Budget: 600 gbp but if I could get away with less that would be nice.

>>
>>68384770
Pubs are smaller venues, but basically any venue that serves booze isn't considered "DIY," and in my experience, the bulk of local metal shows don't happen at pubs. Maybe there aren't any places like that around you, but usually there are and it's a matter of knowing where to look.

As for the second part of your post, you should be more willing to meet people in the middle. You'd be surprised at the depth of many people's interests. I have friends that play old school DM but are also involved in many other genres. It sounds like you're being too selective and it's not getting you anywhere.

The differences are so negligible they're not worth spending five times as much. I don't need a weird shape, I don't need some fancy wood tops, I don't need a little micrometers less on my action, I don't need some weird neck profile or radius either.
So yes, in some sort of way, a production model's equal to a custom built model, it's a plank with strings and pickups where you can play fancy notes on, anything more than that is nothing but details.

Both of these amps are sort of unreasonable for playing in the house, assuming you wanted power tube distortion. I've owned a HDR for 8 years, and never turned up the volume dial more than to 2/12. I do however also own a small Vox combo that can switch it's output level between 4, 1, and 1/4th of a Watt, and that does give a real nice breakup sound, especially with an overdrive pedal. Why not check out an amp with an attenuator?

Here's what happens next, they either pay for the guitar to be shipped back (lol, they'll probably refuse) at their expense or you open a PayPal dispute (or the dispute the charges on your credit card) and use the emails as proof of your side of the story.

They probably won't pay for it to be returned and you get a free guitar because both PayPal and your credit card company will side in your favor.

So I just started guitar and I'm learning to read tab.

What does each note mean? Do I strum it once at where it is or do I keep some strumming rhythm going?

Letter is the chord name. Rhythm you figure out by listening to the song

Each note is the chord your supposed to play, in this situation. This isn't a tab, this is just chords with lyrics to show the timing. The rhythm, the strumming, you gotta figure out on your own. Just listen to the song and copy it.

New guitars, /gg/? Just bought this thing. 64 SG Special. Pretty much nothing original except for the neck and body, neck finish, pickguard and electronics. Maybe frets? Still, a great guitar for less than a grand. Reverb is the bomb

An Sg will definitely be my next guitar but fuck me I'm broke.
Each time one of you anons posts a nice SG I get pushed a bit closer to buying one anyway and suffering through scratching by for a while.

I bought my MemeStang back for $250 less than what I first paid for

They're so nice! That's what I am doing with this one. Saved a while for it, also been squirreling away into a savings acct for whatever. Decided to spend my whole paycheck on this lol. Will save the next few, just won't go out to eat or buy anything else. Worth it! Gotta jump when you get the chance, or so I justified it to myself lol

That's a cool one! Is that the one from that manga/anime that gets posted here?

Hell yeah man, I think I'll take your advice.
I'll keep an eye out for good deals and if it feels right jump on it.
I struggled through ramen twice a day back when I was in college so it'll be worth for sure.

That's what I've figured. Seeing as a nice guitar is something you'll keep for a long time, what's a few weeks of being a hobo! Definitely post your find when you make it! Keep an eye on Reverb's "Player Grade Guitars" collection, they post great old and cheap stuff every weekday, that's where I found the SG (and my other old SG), it's a great resource

Just got a Vox ac30cc2, my first tube amp, and I don't know what tubes to get or how to replace them. Can some one help a musical retard out?
>>
should I get treble bleed for my new guitar?

i thought fretboard radius just applied to the curvature of the fretboard, not it's actual width

I'd be interested to hear how they are cause they seem suspiciously cheap
