Ok ni/gg/ers, what should i get for my first pedal?

Options:
>MXR analog chorus
>Ibanez tube screamer mini
>Dunlop fuzz face

Current gear: squier classic vibe tele + peavey envoy 110 (pic related). play mostly 60s/70s rock and roll plus some country/blues/folk stuff on the side. looking to spice it up a bit.
>>
>>68291682
fuzz is a good idea for a first pedal. more fun than distortion
>>
>>68291682
The chorus would fit the 60s/70s stuff nicely but a flanger or phase shifter would probably be even cooler. If I were you I'd go for the tube screamer or fuzz face first to have another kind of distortion sound available, or as a boost for solo work.
>>
>>68291742
>>68291745
i was leaning towards the fuzz, not a bad idea.

my amp doesnt have any obvious 'effects loop' outputs in the back, it has a 'remote switch', 'preamp out' and 'headphones'

is it even pedal compatible? i think it's a tube amp. it's really old, i got it for less than 100 bucks secondhand.

If you had to pick only one of the following:

- Envelop Filter (Wah)
- Phaser
- Flanger

What would it be? why?
>>
>>68291818
Distortion effects usually go in front of the amp, so you go guitar > fuzz > amp. All you need is a second cable and either 9V batteries or a wall wart for the pedal.
>>
>>68291826
Wah is nice but overdone at this point.
Phaser is cool but not very versatile (at least the Phase 90 isn't).
Flanger it is. Some modifications and you can have crazy pitch shifting effects at the push of a button. Usable for wide range of genres and styles.
>>
>>68291856
Listen to this Auto-Wah though.

>>
>>68291682
Get yourself a decent overdrive such as a Boss SD-1 or an Ibanez Tubescreamer. A good overdrive can make a shitty amp sound slightly better if you can dial it in right.
>>
>>68291895
Ehhhhh
Doesn't really appeal to me but if you like it, go for it.

>>68291922
ds1? that one seems pretty affordable but my amp can do overdrive pretty well on its own. was really looking for something unique like the chorus or fuzz
>>
>>68291624
>>68291602
ok this is pretty cute so far

those anime pickguards are still cancer though
>>
>>68292045
The DS-1 is really harsh and metallic sounding. A really heavy distortion or fuzz might not blend in that well with a solid state amp like that peavey. A natural sounding overdrive like a Tubescreamer will sound ten times better.
>>
>>68292045
The SD-1 is about $50.00 USD. I own it myself and it's not a bad overdrive pedal for the price.
>>
>>68293012
which tubescreamer? also do you think the mxr analog chorus would work with it? im really intrigued by the possibilities, feeling like i could do some late-70s stones style stuff with it.
>>
>>68293030

none of the above

you should get a delay pedal and I can give you 2 solid reasons why

1. it's the best effect
2. it will make you a better guitarist

playing with a delay will keep you playing in time and will help you learn to harmonize and "play along"

a chorus will be boring, a tube screamer is a big no no without a tube amp, and a fuzz face is so subtle, again basically bad without a cranked tube amp

that's all

delay delay delay
>>
>>68293012
DS-1 is a great starting pedal since it's only $30 however why even work with the DS-1 when you could be working with the DS-2 it's better and doesn't sound nearly as bad?
>>
>>68293218
what does a delay pedal do/how does it work

Is it another guitar thread? You guys discussing your "instruments"?

Riddle me this, you rock niggers: why play a cumbersome, medieval bow and arrow of an "instrument" when my Keyboard can perfectly mimic guitar "music"?

>dials in Patch 143 (electric guitar). fingers tickle out an amazingly intricate descending pattern at lightning speed

I craft beautiful soundscapes endlessly with ease. My fingers are literally gods, creating universes of sounds with ease.

>blasts out a massive chord, roaring trombones with left hand. Right hand spins a web of ethereal raindrops and bells

Anyways, I'll let you "guys" keep talking on the internet about guitars. I have better things to do.

>gets 3rd blowjob since starting this post. So many blowjobs it hurts the penis
>>
>>68293266

delay pedal is like an echo. so when you play scales you can harmonize with yourself, kinda like 'row row row your boat' if you know what i mean

here's a good example of delay. i know the wall is a meme no flame

It will make you sound like a better guitarist because it fills out your fuckup spaces.

I currently use an off-brand strato plugged to my computer with a 6.35 -> 3.5mm adapter and I'm looking to improve my sound. What does /gg/ think will make a better improvement: buying a proper audio interface with 6.35mm input or getting a better guitar with at least some humbuckers?
I know I should eventually get both, but I'm a poorfag and will have to work one step at a time with this.
>>
>>68293418

that too, but I believe practicing scales and arpeggios, or just improvising with a delay is more fun than playing with a metronome and every bum note you throw out will come back and bite you in the ass a few times
>>
>>68293338
sounds neat but it's not really applicable to the type of music i play

pink floyd is dope but i dont play anything nearly that progressive

i was more interested in something to put a little edge on my tones, maybe thicken things up a bit/help my cut through on lead. when i have that peavy set to lead and bright and go to the bridge on my tele it can really cut, but it's twang is on steroids. i want something to fatten up the bass and make it a little raunchier, or use a chorus to thicken up the higher register

>>
>>68293463
I'm leaving for uni soon and will only get back at the end of the day, so a sample will have to wait until tomorrow, but I'm aware I'm a pretty shit player. The reason I'm considering a humbucker guitar is because I really came to dislike the strato's characteristic sound and it doesn't really work with some of the high-gain stuff I like to play, not because I believe it will magically make me a good player.

And it barely matters, but I do have an amp, I just don't use it often.
>>
>>68293486

For tube amps that cost less than a couple grand
>>
>>68293518
Yeah, I mostly use the neck or neck/middle configurations nowadays, but having a strato and not using the bridge pickup for the strato sound feels somewhat wrong.

My playing is all over the place since I'm self taught and only play alone. I know basic scales(major/minor, pentatonic, blues) though I can't do much with them; the basic chords, including barres, though I suck at strumming and keeping rhythm in general; and I can play some fast-ish power metal leads/solos at ~80% of the tempo. Can't really work things out by ear yet either.

Gotta go now, I'll check the thread when I'm back and try to record something.
>>

if you can possible save up for a classic vibe for a fender mim then you definitely should. no reason to buy an inferior guitar if you don't have to. $250-$300 used is about as cheap as you'll find something that sounds good and that you'll continue to enjoy playing.

i have the classic 50s vibe butterscotch tele and it's pretty sweet

good twang, decent sustain. tuners are decent, feels good in the hand. heavy though, like 9 lbs or something like that. a strat feels like holding a newspaper next to the cv tele lol

i don't see the point of switching between the e and a string to play the low a though...

literally the only notes in that lick are low e, f#, g, g# a, b, and mid e

just learn face and every good boy deserves fudge and it makes your life so much easier.

no lol. People are always making shit up to sell off their old shitty gear. 90s/early2000s squier affinities are legit some of the worst guitars I've ever played.

Beginner here, is this guitar ok? When should I upgrade and how much to spend? Left-handed btw
>>
>>68295697
You're supposed to let the strings ring out; the unison is intentional.
>>
>>68295806
Do you have a fuzz/distortion yet? Seems like that would be the most useful. Or the chorus pedal if you play Post-Punk/80s style clean shit.
>>
>>68295817
when you play open mics and people say 'wow your chops are really tight man. why are you still playing that pos guitar?' then you can upgrade.

any upgrades before then and you're just doing it because you want a nicer guitar, not because you deserve it. which is fine, i did the same thing except saved up to buy a decent guitar right off the bat and then never upgraded (mim strat) except amps
>>
>>68295817
Knowing Cort QC, it can be either decent or mediocre depending on the finish quality.

do you guys think it's worth trading a seagull s6 dreadnought acoustic for a mim strat?

You just have to stay away from meme models (aka ones used by famous rockers) if you want to find a decent price on a good Gibson. If you want 335-ish tone on a budget look at the Midtown, ES-135/7, Howard Roberts. Usually any other semi-hollow in the same quality range will be just as expensive.

I'm probably going to be moving around a lot next year but I still want to play my bass.

Transporting my bass is no problem, but an amp... those are heavy and big.

Anybody can rec me some sort of headphone amp for bass? I can't use a DI-Box, can I?
>>
>>68302482
Put the soft flesh and jawbone under your chin against the top horn of your bass/guitar.

>One note sounds the same every time you hit it
>Pitch sucks
>Dull presets, only mimicing real instruments
>No harmonics, no different playing styles

Buy a hammond if you want people to take you seriously

sup /gg/ayboys, just purchased a guild les paul, ripped all the hardware off it and slapped in some naughty shit. Sounds fantastic and helps ease my regret of no longer owning a Gibson because it cost a fraction of the price my studio did.

High A is enough of a pain in the ass on it's own. You'd need a short scale and a custom string to even consider high D.

Why the fuck did I fall for the BIAS Amp meme? This thing is shit, I'll just stick to my trusty POD HD. It's a shame for all the money I spent.

Gonna build a really simple little 4 string guitar. It'll be like a CBG except i'm gonna build the box myself instead of buying a box. Should I add pickups and if so which pickups should I use?

Stop listening to retards. I love this thing. I'm waiting for the used prices of the 500x's to come down a bit and then I'll upgrade.

8+ Strings have been a thing since forever.

I really want 6 string babies to sod off.

People like you are why I wish 4chan had a downvote button.

Just get a fucking bassist to play with you you fucking autists.

Thats quite a reddit thing to say anon :^)

>stop liking what I don't like!

Maybe some of us don't need a bassist, did you ever think about that?
>>
>>68300666
But then you wouldn't be able to bend strings.
>>
>>68304450
You could if you set it up correctly and not like a retard.
>>
>>68304057
More people involved just means more cretins who don't play like I want them to play.

There is literally no reason for an ensemble to have more than one person for each of the three instrumental types wind, strings and percussion.
>>
>>68304491
You could, but you'd still get a delay, and then a bizarre clunk... and then you'd be able to bend.

>>68304653
Ew gross, could you play with that?
>>
>>68304677
Absolutely. Never having to tune again sounds awesome.
>>
>>68304724
Sounds awesome to an absolute guitar noob who doesn't know shit about the importance of tuning.
>>
>>68304724
I dont know why you would do that, most decent guitars stay in tune for at least a week if they are set up properly, and that would kill resale value to put in any guitar, unless im missing something.

Also, wouldnt the intonation be off because of the saddle moving when you adjust tension?
>>
>>68304776
supposedly the intonation is improved because the tension on the live length of string is constant, rather than increasing up the neck.
>>
>>68304057
>Not playing tasty jazz licks on an eight string
It's like you don't even want to have fun.
>>
>>68304774
>The importance of tuning
???
>>68304776
The saddle doesn't move when it's set up correctly, and it'll hold tuning for months if you want it to. Also,
>caring about resale value
Playing an instrument hurts it's resale value too, better not do that then
>>
>>68304724
I meant the awful pause between bending the string and then actually hearing the pitch change. Don't get me wrong, it's revolutionary if you don't play rock or blues. In fact I wish someone actually had the fucking intelligence to come up with this design seventy years ago before bending became established in guitar culture, then we'd all use EverTune (once they've made it less ugly) without there being any downsides (due to string bending not having come to pass).
