Actually the secret's out! Believe it or not they're pretty popular, and are sometimes even considered the definitive rock band of the 90s!
Is it 1991?
>>68359652
Incesticide is better than Nevermind and Bleach.
So is In Utero, actually.
Bleach is their edgiest album.
Your post is silly.
>having guilty pleasures in 2016
Honestly, I don't quite understand why anyone would ever admit to having a "guilty pleasure" when it comes to music.
When someone calls something a "guilty pleasure," they're saying much more than just "I like it but it's bad". In reality, they are putting themselves into one of two camps; neither of which are desirable to be in.
>1. The "ironic rockist" - this camp purports to be appreciating music on an intellectual or "deep" level, but shows enjoyment for something does doesn't live up to their poorly contrived notions of artistic evauluation.
>in order to justify this behavior and quell their cognitive dissonance, the rockist will choose to label the piece a "guilty pleasure" and avoid amending their evaluation process to better reflect their actual tastes.
>2. The "real" [insert genre] fan- this camp purports to be appreciating music on a "genuine" or "personal" level, but will prove otherwise through their actions. Much like the ironic rockist, they will achieve a state of cognitive dissonance when they find that they enjoy something not fitting in with the image they desire to project. They settle the dissonance through the justification of it being a "guilty pleasure" while assessing "well everyone has some."
>Oftentimes called such things as "hipsters" or "poseurs," these people are frequently concerned more with the image they gain in the eyes of others rather than the pleasure they derive from the music itself- that is to say, their enjoyment of the art stems almost purely from something outside themself, the art itself, and their sphere of control.

Friendo pls
i like lana del rey's early work but am a little insecure about being a fan because it's such a departure from my normal tastes
so i say it's my guilty pleasure, because it's so much closer to an outlier than an actual part of my taste
so i guess im a bit like the ironic rockist, although i certainly don't purport to appreciate music on an intellectual or deep level. i just like good grooves.
I'm into most of noise things, maybe some gazing, but i can't explain myself why i feel so ridiculously happy when i listen to visual kei, j-pop or rock, so yes, that would be my guilty pleasure
You are now aware that both of these albums came out 47 years ago today.

What's the weirdest performance technique/gimmick you've ever heard of an artist utilising? I once heard of a band called The Tubes, which had a female bassist or something. The lead singer would sometimes insert his microphone into her vagina and sing through it.
Has an artist ever used really powerful bass notes to induce a mass orgasm in the crowd? Or maybe been strategically poked in a G-spot with a rod at a crucial, climactic moment in the song, causing the vocalist to scream with even more passion and intensity?
good thread would read again
What.
>Has an artist ever used really powerful bass notes to induce a mass orgasm in the crowd
Sunn does this but it's more a physical and mental orgasm than a sexual one

Can we just talk about how good Teeth Like Gods Shoeshine and Cowboy Dan actually are,
They display and stir up a wide range of emotions and instrument knowledge and skill, they also contain some of the best free flowing lyrics ever wrote in a rock song. These two songs are masterpieces of modern rock.
>>68359026

Is music as an art form doomed?
>>68358930
Greece was never a unified state faggot. There were only alliances when the Persians attacked and the Persians got their asses handed to them.
>>68358950
It's a troll image.
For example, the next part of Plato's quote is him talking shit about the musicians of his day, who predated Classical music by about a millennia.

>Our music was once divided into its proper forms...It was not permitted to exchange the melodic styles of these established forms and others. Knowledge and informed judgment penalized disobedience. There were no whistles, unmusical mob-noises, or clapping for applause. The rule was to listen silently and learn; boys, teachers, and the crowd were kept in order by threat of the stick. . . . But later, an unmusical anarchy was led by poets who had natural talent, but were ignorant of the laws of music...Through foolishness they deceived themselves into thinking that there was no right or wrong way in music, that it was to be judged good or bad by the pleasure it gave. By their works and their theories they infected the masses with the presumption to think themselves adequate judges. So our theatres, once silent, grew vocal, and aristocracy of music gave way to a pernicious theatrocracy...the criterion was not music, but a reputation for promiscuous cleverness and a spirit of law-breaking.
