Because of the realities of track riding if you do it more than once or twice a dedicated bike is a good idea, they generally live rough lives and the shit that makes a bike street legal (lights, turn signals, etc) get wrecked the hardest.

Plus it's a good excuse to go and buy that wrecked R1 with a salvage title on CL and turn it into a fire breathing monster for $10k.

Yes.

The recomended maintenence schedule can be relaxed if youre not beating on it, but you's still looking at oil changes every thousand miles or so and valve checks ever 2000 or so.

Depends on what you're doing with it. if it's going to be a cart track toy, go for it.

If you're going to commute on it and ride any significant distance, Id say look at something else.

I still wouldn't call an XRR "low maintenance".

DRZ400SM or WR250X are the obvious choices if looking for a streetable supermoto with good maintenence intervals.

XR650R is the bike to get if you want something you could consider quick, but you're paying for it with more maintenance. You will likely need to convert it unless you find one already done.

If you need something lighter and quicker then you start looking at 5xx EXC's and converting them. Or WR450F's if you cang et them street legal in your area. Here's where you really start eating it on maintenence.

If you want something with a lot of power the 690/701 is where its at but you pay for it with pigfat weight and KTM tier reliability.
