Album Info:

>What is this?
This is a project that aims to create an album of music from /mlp/. It'll be a compilation, potentially containing everything from originals, remixes, collaborations, etc. The past efforts never came to fruition, so we're trying once again. If you create music, sing, rap, create art, write lyrics, have ideas, or just want to participate, jump right in. Add yourself to the GDoc and/or please email [email protected] who you are, what you do, contact info (May include preferred email, YouTube, etc), and anything else.

>What kind of music is the album going to contain?
Basically anything is acceptable. This means complete originals, remixes, collaborations, soundscapes, etc.

>How do I submit my music/art?
Please submit a mastered/unmastered WAV or AIFF. Please upload it to a site that doesn’t compress the audio file (Like Dropbox and Mediafire. NOT Vocaroo), and then share the download link. You can also upload to OneDrive (https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=C6319434888276ED%21105. To upload, post your email in the thread or email [email protected], and we'll add you). If you don’t post in the thread, please email [email protected] so we know for sure you’re submitting something.

>What about artwork?
Yes, we can always use artists. Artwork may be needed for the album cover. individual songs, and anything else we come up with. Final versions of artwork will be submitted like music (see above).

>I HAVE MOAR QUESTIONS
If you still have questions, read the Google doc above, email [email protected], or ask in the thread.

Awaiting updates from soundguy

UPDATES Part 2

>>27415956
>Jump cover (EASY)
Twifi put together an instrumental cover of Van Halen's "Jump" and re-wrote the lyrics. We just need random anons for the "Bump!" shout similar to how "Jump!" is yelled in the original Van Halen tune. Tutorial to make it stupid proof: https://clyp.it/vktz2jql
• We need anons to submit somewhat high quality vocal clips of them yelling "BUMP"
• These submissions should be done through the onedrive in this folder. Please submit your files as WAV if possible!
http://1drv.ms/1QPCn8V
• If any anons would be comfortable doing the main vocal part please let us know
• We need as many submissions as we can get. Your voice counts. Yes you. The one faggot fapping to worst pony.

might come up with a riff for the alternative Cheesey song. i know alternative.
basically need a 85BPM kick heavy beat, then, either a bass and a piano, with guitar taking rythim (if you want a soft sound) or a bass and guitar with a synth lead (for a harder sound).

here's a couple of examples for anyone who is planning to help with this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTOC_q0NLTk Soft alternative
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpOSxM0rNPM Harder alternative
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQH8ZTgna3Q Hard alternative
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8OipmKFDeM here's what i'm feeling for these lyrics.

also, if anyone wants to add a couple of verses in place of those choruses that'd be greaat.

UPDATES!

Guys the latest preview for the trailer video is done!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRet7uNZGGE&feature=youtu.be

So far we have gotten permission for almost all these backgrounds. I am just waiting on a couple more emails. However I need you guys to approve of what we have so far regarding the background art and effects. We still need to do an intro too along with a blurb about where to buy/download the actual album.

As for the hype video I am nearly done with the fucker. It has been a pain in the ass getting the audio and camera angles right.

New lyrics for the changeling metal song

Cry your tears like all the rest
As you sink down into our depths
We'll chew you up til nothings left
You'll be empty, but full of death

Take a breath before we start
It's really quite an art
The way you're torn apart
as we consume your heart

I don't know if I should introduce fire, since the changelings flame on when they change. Our maybe singeing about darkness. How long should it be?

I'm actually super hype. It makes me very happy. A few things, however:

1. That Boom De Yada is an old version. Please replace it with this (better mix): https://www.dropbox.com/s/br7tq6zjst06jqw/boomdeyadaMix8722.mp3?dl=0

2. Feral's song was supposed to be https://www.dropbox.com/s/8a0axbcktc7zpnd/Feral%20FurE%20-%20Man%20Jesus%20Loves%20Children-Flavored%20Pizza.wav?dl=0, however, both work, really, so I'll leave it up to you to decide, unless the thread really wants the Children-Flavored Pizza song.

3. When Waifu Blues is playing it says "Dzahlus" instead of "/MLP/ Plays"

4. For the background on "Boom De Yada", you should probably change it to the current thread's OP picture. The one used in the video used what we believe to be a more or less stolen vector and the current one was made for us.

>We still need to do an intro too along with a blurb about where to buy/download the actual album.
I'll make the bandcamp today and post that. You can also include the YouTube (www.youtube.com/user/slashmlpmusic). Great work as always.

You've done a good job of making the songs go into each other. I have no qualms over that.
If anything, I have a problem with the amount of black space on Dzahlus' bit: just something needs to fill the black space.
An easy thing to add would be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrtfaG5mwgE as Wandering Artist submitted it to /mlp/ plays... yonks ago.

No.

And before I confuse you by accident: the black space thing and the Wandering Artist thing are two separate suggestions.
Something needs to fill the black space.
Unrelated, an easy thing to add to the play list would be Wandering Artist's thing.

My name's Anon
From the planet cybertron
If you meet me IRL
You'd be long gone
Every five minutes
I pop a boner
Either to loli, furries
Or my little poners
I got one waifu
And 200 disses
I let them all out
Toward's your own six misses
The buthurt is strong
And yeah, it runs deep
But not quite as much
As my affiliation with feet
So take a seat
Right there
And we can talk this out
I'll tip my fedora
Send you right >>/out/

I pop a one two
One boner
And one sqrew
Stuffed deeply
In my one true waifu
In a horses vagina
I pirate all music
From here to regina
My formulaic rhymes
Are quite sublime
To say the least
Your rhymes are like an infection of yeast

Call me anonymous
Fat as a hippopotomous
But I got a dis
In every locket
Eating a hot pocket
Telling you to stick your dick in a light socket!

Will need to fix the strings in the last bar, repeat the verses and give them a bit more meat, split the chorus, and probably find something to insert in the mid-high range.
I know the verse is extremely simplistic, but I know I tend to overdo it so I tried to keep it simple. Let me know what you think.

You won't see the light of day
When you try to run away
We won't curse you cold and gray
If you promise to just stay

You know at this rate
It's already too late
When all you feel is hate
That's how you know fate

Just keep your head down
Turn that smile into a frown
It's your feelings that you drown
When you surrender to the crown

If you don't want to be alone
And get rattled to the bone
Turn yourself into stone
And make this hive your home

if you see anything that doesn't seem like it'll work let me know

Right: believe it or not but I got the placeholders WAV files done (took longer than I thought) and went over your takes.
I think your first take was the best but the problem with all of them is that they all start well but, somewhere in the latter half, you make a mistake or you go out of time etc.
I know it sounds stupid that my sole criticism is "you made a mistake somewhere" but... yeah.
I think the problem is that, when practising, we all always start at the beginning but don't always finish. That makes the beginning well-practised and polished whilst the ending ends up less polished.
That said, I could always splice and edit what I've already got of you.

>>27485952
well, now that you point it out, I see was dragging hard at the end every time, it's those damn half notes, for some reason they fuck up my timing.
Here's some more takes I did today, they sound a bit better I think. They should be enough to get something out of them at least.

We had another thing going a while back although I wonder whether it's defunct. I don't know where the drawfag went.

>>27491349

>>
>>27491349
If you think you can find someone who can design a better album cover, I say go for it.
Here's a list of a few album cover ideas we had in the past if you need some:
>anon in equestria
>pony band at a concert >>27492113
>Anon hogtied with guitar strings
>>
>>27492113
Interesting. I never knew one was started.

>>27492207
If you are willing to finish something better than what I got then I think we are all on board.

>>27492282
I agree that the emblem is good. I don't think that needs changing. And it is already being used in the actual video. But slapping it on a grunge background and calling it our album cover may not sit well with everyone. That being said, I am willing to scrap my idea for a finished version of >>27492113 or SoundGuy's "Anon hogtied with a cable/guitar Strings" I aim to please the majority here.

>>27493130
I know Christina (the artist who did our emblem) would be willing to color and stylize >>27492113 with shades and the whole kit and caboodle. I need to let her know soon then. Or one of us can color it.

Someone might need to make an executive decision here.
>>
>>27493353

we need a bass player, drum player, and a pianist- plus a couple of accompanying voices so we can do some harmonies on the song.

Lyrics
Oh beauty is a wonderful thing
When have got it
when you walk in the room
Its no wonder you're the topic
Of what we sing
--
My love for you comes from what I see.
Oh yes, what I see.
--
Cuz
You're the rhyme to my reason
You’re the tickky to my tock
So I hope that soon on one day
You'll help me suck my cock
--
Like you should.
Holy shit I'm hard as wood.
[jam]
You’re the best of the best
You're the first, and the last
And when you come over here
You put me, at full mast
--
You know you do
[jam]
I'll rail you so hard you'll turn to glue
[jam]
Come be my sock
[jam]
Yeah, you know You'll like it a lot.
--
Cuz
The slit in front of your tail
Is so god damn hypnotizing
I would know because
I've seen you dressing
That’s why I'm now harmonizing
--
Yes I am
And, oh yes I was.
---
Cuz
You're the rhyme to my reason
You’re the tickky to my tock
So I hope that soon on one day
You'll come suck my cock

Let me cum all on your nave-
Cum be my pretty slave

[here should go either another verse then chorus, then jam out, or just a jam out]

There are a lot of rules of counterpoint, some hard, and some soft. And soft rules differ from teacher to teacher, but the hard rules are pretty much set in stone. Before we actually dive into the rules of counterpoint, I'm going to introduce some principles and goals.
>Good melody
The rules of writing a good melody apply to counterpoint, which I'll go over in fuller detail later. Each line must be satisfactory in its own right, and easily sung.
>Independence
Every line must feel independent, and stand out. There are tons of ways you can do this, and I'll discuss them later.
>Consonance
Lines must be pleasing with one another. You can have two really awesome, unique, melodies that sound like utter crap when you put them together.

Okay, these are some of the general goals. Next, will talk about the basic tools of writing counterpoint

>Oblique motion
This is when one voice moves and the other voice stays on the same note.
>Parallel motion
This is when both voices move in the same direction and the same distance. Ex. if the bass moves up by step, and the soprano moves up by step at the same time, that's parallel motion.
>Similar motion
This is when both voices move in the same direction, but don't move the same distance, so if the bass moves up by third, and the soprano moves up by any interval other than a third, then it's similar motion.
>Contrary motion
This is when the voices move in opposite directions, regardless of distance. This is important, because you want to have as much contrary motion as you can to create the feeling of independence of lines.

so much juicy theory...mmmmmm
>>
>>27530273
Next, let's move onto intervals.
>Perfect consonances
5ths and octaves. These intervals are the most consonant, and the most stable. You want to reserve these for the beginnings and ends of lines. You must always end the melodies in octaves, but with beginnings, there's some leeway.
>Imperfect consonances
3rds and 6ths. These are what you want your counterpoint to be filled with.
>Dissonances
These are pretty much everything else: 2nds, 4ths (sometimes), tritones, and 7ths. You don't start using these right away, so avoid them for now.

Alright, with that out of the way, here are some basic suggestions for writing good melodies.
Disclaimer: these are not the end all, be all rules of good melodies. Many MANY composers break these rules in order to create good melodies, but they're good suggestions nonetheless.

>Singable
Good melodies are easy to sing. Singable melodies are easy to remember, and stick in the listener's brain.
>Diatonic
Keep your melodies in a single key. Avoid straying from it.
>Range
Keep your melody within an octave, give or take a couple notes. Having a limited range makes it easier to sing.
>Skips/leaps
This is kind of a weird and somewhat ambiguous rule. When ascending, never jump larger than an octave, and never jump up a major 6th, or a 7th of either major or minor quality. When descending, you CAN jump down a major sixth, but not a major or minor 7th, and nothing larger than an octave. Also, you musn't jump by the interval of a tritone when ascending or descending. And with that, if you jump by 6th/octave, you must balance out that leap by stepwise motion in the opposite direction. This is called "recovering." So if you jump up an octave, you must take a step down. The reason this rule is somewhat ambiguous is because if you are doing a series of smaller skips e.g. a 3rd and then a 4th in the same direction, there's no rule about whether you must recover the leap with a step. At that point, it's up to the composer to use their ear.
>>
>>27530611
Still continuing.

>Stability
Begin and end on stable notes. You can begin on either the 1st of the scale, the 3rd, or the 5th, but you should end the melody on the tonic (1st)
>Contour
Melodies should have a contour with ONE highest/lowest point. You can have several high/low points, but there should be one point in the melody that is the peak/valley. Peaks are more common because it's generally easier to remember the highest part of a melody as opposed to the lowest point.
>Contrast
Melodies have a healthy mixture of conjuct (stepwise) and disjunct (skips/leaps) motion. Too many steps, and it becomes boring. Too many skips and leaps, and it becomes difficult. Melodies should mostly be stepwise, with some skips and leaps thrown in to be interesting.
>Exposed tritones
Don't write melodies that outline the tritone. It's kind of hard to explain, but easy to show. Say you are writing a melody in C major. The tritone is between the notes F and B. If a part of your melody starts on F and has stepwise motion going upward, you cannot change directions on the B. You must either go through the B using stepwise motion, skip over it, or change direction before it. So, to sum it up: there must not be a single, continuous line that spans the length of a tritone.

Okay. I think those are all the rules for melody writing. Like I said, many a composer have broken these rules. They are not set in stone, and are flexible, but they are helpful guidelines, and provide a useful grounding. There are other aspects to writing good melodies, such as motivic development, harmonic motion, rhythms, etc. but this should be good for now.

With that out of the way, I'll start a basic introduction to counterpoint, and I'll create an example to walk you through.

Counterpoint time. I'm going to do this measure by measure. It'll take longer, but I'll be able to be more thorough.

This is 1st species counterpoint. For every note in the tenor, we have one in the soprano. No more. No less.

Now, let's start with the ending. The rule is that you must end with an octave. Another rule is that if one voice is ending in Re-Do, the other voice must end with Ti-Do, and vice versa. Since the tenor ends in D going to C (Re-Do), that only leaves us with the option of having the soprano go from B to C (Ti-Do)

Moving on to the beginning. As I stated earlier, you can either start out the melodies in either a 5th or an octave. Because of the closeness of the lines I know the tenor is 8vb, but for the sake of the example, we're going to pretend they're in the same register I opted to put the soprano at the octave.

Rule: in 1st species counterpoint, ALL intervals must be consonant. No 2nds, 4ths, 7ths, and no tritones! The only intervals allowed are 3rds, 5ths, 6ths, and octaves.

With that in mind, let's look at the second measure. We have a G in the bass. We can have either a B, D, E, or G above in any octave. As you can see, we have seven options. We have the G below our starting note, as well as B and D and E. Then we have the G above as well as the B and the D. That may seem like a lot of options, but we can make our lives easier, and start eliminating some of these.

Let's go over one of the rules of melodies: skips and leaps. When ascending, we can't do a major 6th, minor 6th, or major 7th, and nothing larger than an octave. That means the B and D way up there can be crossed out, seeing as how C ascending to B is a major 7th, and C to that D is a 9th, larger than an octave. Next, we can remove that G above C. Why? Because the tenor is ascending from C to G. If both voices ascend from C to G, that gives us the dreaded parallel octaves, which are forbidden.

Rule: parallel octaves are forbidden, as well as parallel 5ths. Why? 5ths and octaves are very pure, open intervals. When they occur, they diminish the independence of each voice, and instead make them sound like one voice being doubled. So, do not do parallel octaves or 5ths. The ideal way to approach perfect consonances is through stepwise, contrary, motion. Similar motion is permitted, but not ideal, and even less ideal when moving from one perfect consonance to another.

Another note to eliminate is that G below our C. It's the same note as what's in the tenor, and singing a unison* destroys the independence between lines.

*unisons are also perfect consonances, and should be reserved exclusively for beginnings and ends of melodies.

So now, we're left with three options instead of seven. Pretty nice, huh?

I opted to move from C to the B just below it because it gives us a nice major 3rd to go against the tenor, and it's in contrary motion with the lower voice, which is what we're striving for.

Next measure: we have four options, or more realistically, three. I didn't write out the options that broke our previous rule, but there's a note that breaks a new rule. That F above the B. Moving from B to F is the leap of a tritone, which is forbidden. So now, we're left with three options again.

>>27531323
We could continue on our descent from B to A, but that leaves us a little problem. The next note in the tenor is the same A we already have in the soprano. That's not good. That kinda diminishes our sense of independent lines. Plus, if we wanted to go to the E, it's making a leap into a 5th, and that's not ideal. And jumping to that A up above follows the rules of melody writing, but it means we leap into an octave, and that's not very good counterpoint. We could go to the F. It's only a minor 6th above, but that doesn't change that the tenor is moving to the same note we're currently on. We could probably do better.

Rule: when approaching 5ths and octaves, the upper voice MUST approach and leave through stepwise motion. The lower voice is more free and can skip to and from octaves, even though it's not ideal. The ideal is to have both voices approach and leave via steps.

Rule: voices must not play the same note just played by the other voice in the previous measure.

>The ideal is to have both voices approach and leave via steps.
*stepwise contrary motion. This rule applies to 5ths as well. You want to step through perfect consonances and continue on in a single direction.

Let's move up to the D instead. That gives us the interval of a 6th, and is nice contrary motion to the tenor.

We can eliminate that upper A because we still can't approach it with stepwise motion. We could go to the E. It's only a step away, but we can't really step out of it. We'd have to go to the F in the following measure. If we go to the following measure, we see that there's an E in the tenor. It doesn't conflict with the E in the soprano of the previous measure, since they're in different octaves, but if the soprano would cause a dissonance against the tenor, so that option is out. We're left with either F or C. Both are equally valid.

Protip: it's important to see things two or three measures ahead so you don't get yourself trapped.

I decided to go to C. From here, we have some options. As we learned, we should approach perfect intervals via stepwise motion. Contrary would be ideal. So, that E is a weak link. We CAN go to it and step downward, but it's not a great option. We could skip up to that G. But what about that B? It's a 5th above E, but what about the following measure? Could we move C-B-A and produce a line that's consonant with the tenor? Well, if we look, after the E in the tenor, we have an F, and A is consonant with F, so that's a valid gesture. We could also Skip down to that G below our C. We have three options that would work just fine.

I decided to move to the B for several reasons. One, I can't hammer this point enough that perfect consonances should be approached and left be step, and I want to show it in practice. Two, the 5th is a nice contrast of interval from the 3rds and sixths. Three, since it can pretty much move to the A afterwards, we can push through one more measure without really thinking.

Alright, more options. Now we have the choice to retain the A, or move up in some fashion. We can't move down to the F, seeing as how we just had the F in the soprano, so we're left with no choice but to move in contrary or oblique motion, which is a good thing.

Let's consider our options. In the next measure, the tenor moves from D to G. If we retain the A, we can move up to B in the following measure, or maybe an E up above, but oblique motion is kinda boring. I don't like doing it unless I really have to.

We could move to the B. That's a sixth. That doesn't cause any problems.

What about the D? Well, it doesn't allow us to approach it ideally, and besides, we already have a D earlier in the melody. We're getting close to the end, and we should have some kind of climactic note.

What about the F? It's only a skip of a minor 6th, and we can recover it by stepping down to E since that will create a 6th against the G in the following measure, and it'll be the highest point in the melody, and it's all contrary motion.

See, the benefit of understanding the rules frees you up and allows you to make musical decisions.

Since we know how to treat leaps and recoveries, we can write through two more measures, leaving us with just one measure to work out.

We could retain the E, but oblique motion is boring.

We could move up to the G. You'll need to leap down from it, but it recovers just nicely. Thing is, we already have one climactic point that was approached by a leap no less. It might sound awkward having a climax, and another one immediately after. We could make this note the penultimate point, but we don't have to.

We also have the option of moving down to the C.

We're once again left with a musical choice.

No problem. Just doing what I do. Here's a basic recap of the hard rules of 1st species counterpoint, with just a few that I didn't go over in the example.

1. Both lines must follow the rules of good melody writing.

2. No dissonances.

3. Perfect 5ths and octaves must be approached and left by stepwise motion in the upper voice, though contrary stepwise motion in both voices is the most ideal.

4. Lines must start with perfect consonances, and end with octaves or in unison preceded by either a minor 3rd or a major 6th.

5. Voices must not cross over one another.
5.1 Voices must not repeat the note of the other voice in the previous measure.

6. Parallel octaves and 5ths are FORBIDDEN.
6.1 You may do parallel 3rds and 6ths, but no more than three in a row.

These are the hard rules that you must follow when writing 1st species counterpoint. The only one that has some leeway is 6.1. Some teachers say three in a row, some allow four.

One more thing: just like the rules for melodies, these are not the rules of music. These are the rules for writing music stylistic of the common-practice era. These rules get broken all the time, even in the time they were written.

If anyone catches anything that I've gotten wrong, or forgotten, go ahead and correct me.
I didn't think it would take this long, but I'm heading out. Maybe I could do a brief thing on harmony and voice-leading parsimony next time.

Okay, we'll need your help for harmonies. like the beach boys or Steam Powered Giraffe.
>>
This first part is going to be pretty basic.

I guess before we get into the rules and guidelines of voice-leading, let's talk about harmony. What is harmony? A harmony is a collection of notes. The harmonies we're interested in right now are triads, which are stacks of thirds built from a fundamental pitch we'll call the root. Above the root is the third, and above the third is the fifth.

If for some reason, you aren't with the program about what thirds are, thirds are intervals. We have minor and major thirds. Minor thirds are made by taking a note, and playing the note three semitones above it. The major third is the interval which consists of four semitones.
>C-Db-D-Eb-E-F-Gb-G
If our note was C, the minor third would be Eb, and the major third would be E.

So, if triads are stacked thirds, what kind of thirds? There are four triads you can make with major and minor thirds: diminished, minor, major, and augmented.

For the following examples, the root will be C.

Starting with the diminished, it is two minor thirds stacked on top of the root (C-Eb-Gb). If you count up the semitones from C to Gb, you'll notice that Gb is six semitones above C. This is the interval of a tritone, more specifically, this is a diminished fifth, since it is one semitone smaller than the perfect fifth.

Minor is similar to the diminished. The third is a minor third above the root, and the fifth is a major third above the third (C-Eb-G). The fifth in the minor harmony (and major) is a perfect fifth above the root (seven semitones).

The major triad is built similar to the minor, but is reversed. We use a major third first, then a minor third (C-E-G).

The augmented chord is like the major chord, but instead has another major third on top instead of a minor third (C-E-G#)

One thing I should emphasize about chord spellings is that you don't use enharmonic equivalents for notes. C-E-Ab is not a C augmented chord. A C triad MUST be some flavor of C-E-G.

With that out of the way. Let's look at chords and inversions. You build chords from the root up, but that's not how they always appear in music. The root is not always going to be the lowest sounding note. Whichever note is in the bass determines the chord's inversion. When the root is in the bass, this is called -surprise- root position. Whenever the third of the chord is in the bass, it's in first inversion, and when the fifth is in the bass, it's called second inversion.

In pic-related, I've shown you how these chords can show up. This particular voicing is called keyboard voicing, since the left hand is relegated to the bass, and the upper voices are in the right hand. The first three chords are in root position, the next group of chords, with E in the bass are in first inversion, and the last group of three chords are in second inversion. I did this to show two things:

1. It doesn't matter what's going on in the right hand, all that matters is what member of the chord is in the lowest sounding voice.

2. First inversion is voiced differently than the others. This is because of the rule that you do not double the third of the chord.

Inversions have special qualities and denotations. Root position, which are denoted with either a blank space, or 5/3 (telling you that there is a 5th and a 3rd above the bass) are the most stable inversion. First inversion, notated as 6/3 (meaning a 6th and 3rd above the bass) are the second most stable inversion, and second inversion, labeled 6/4 (6th and 4th above the bass) are the weakest inversion, and require special approaches. For right now, I'd recommend not using second inversion chords.

Oh, Pianoman...

I'm sorry but there are various problems with your sample:
1) Honestly, I was hoping for actual piano, not MIDI piano. That said, it's not strictly a requirement: you'd just need a VST or something to compensate.
2) There's a distinct lack of (what I believe to be) sustain.
3) Your playing is stiff. There are also mistakes although, with enough takes, they can be removed. I'm not saying this because you can or can not play part of the sheet music (my composing is shite; I'm not expecting you to be able to play exactly what I wrote), I'm saying this in general.

I really appreciate you giving it your all (you're the first to actually send us something) but, because of the aforementioned bullet points, I'd like to explore other options for the piano.
Put bluntly, we won't be using your performances on the song.

All that said and done, do invest time in looking for a realistic-sounding piano voice for your keyboard and keep practising: they're vital steps on the road to playing brilliance, sounding brilliance and just generally exuberating brilliance.
And thank you for trying. Trying is also a vital step.
>>

>Honestly, I was hoping for actual piano, not MIDI piano. That said, it's not strictly a requirement: you'd just need a VST or something to compensate

Sorry, I probably should have specified I'm recording from my keyboard, not an acoustic

>Put bluntly, we won't be using your performances on the song.

>>
>>27570718
You can get some pretty awesome sounding MIDI keyboard sounds though. Get familiar with a DAW, plug one of these free VSTs into it and have fun.

hey, if anyone can get me some lyrics for that metal song. i will record full, HD lyrics. and that would mean another song on the album, because everything else is done for that song.

literally, someone make lyrics that work and the song will be done.

the concept i have is 'Changeling Hive from POV of captive' but, as long as we got some metal lyrics, it does not matter, whatever strikes a lyricist's fancy.

Bad news guys, Christina cannot do the album cover art. Her schedule is too damn busy. She said she would try to find one of her friends to do it but still has yet to get back to me. If anyone knows any really good artists feel free to drop some names.

And Sound Guy, I know I sound like a retard saying this but could I please get that link to the page where they will be buying/downloading the album? Or is it not set up yet. I know the album isn't finished yet but I thought adding a link to the page were it will be released would be good to have.

And I wanted to ask you, should I post the hype video on my channel too? I am not trying to take over at all but it would get more views alongside your channel. Also I would post a link to your channel as well. We have roughly 30 days until the album is released so I'd say posting the hype video right around this weekend would be good to do. What do you guys think?

Well, bummer. That's another one.
I'd ask how much she's done but I feel that wouldn't be fair on her, considering that she did do the emblem.

I got no names to drop. I don't know a single artist.

>should I post the hype video on my channel too?

I'd say go ahead simply for more exposure but... maybe your audience isn't the crowd we're catering for?
I don't know. There'll be downsides beyond your concerns that you may or may not be inconspicuously monopolising on all this (or whatever it's called).
Apart from video and banner/logo/emblem/thing, you're not. I'd say it only appears so because little else appears to happen.

Dunno what Harmonica >>27603580 means by "monopolising", really. I don't know how you can monopolise the album made by few dosens of musicians by making hype video for it. >Why do you even think that he's trying to do whatever you're thinking he's trying to do?
I don't.
Weim asked whether he should post the hype video onto his channel.
He then followed it with the disclaimer that he's not doing this (or anything) in an attempt to "take over": he simply wants the hype video to get more views.

My point, with me being completely anal-retentive and speaking in the strictest of senses here, is that there will be (speculative until proven otherwise) reasons why he shouldn't beyond what he's already ruled out in his disclaimer.
I realise this is a flimsy argument at best but it is the only thing I can say on this matter other than that he is welcome to post the hype video on his channel.
All that said, I have already made the assumption that these reasons (e.g: might be wrong audience) will be of negligible/insignificant consequence. I'll leave it up to others to think of any possible hangups.

>So far Weim was nothing but VERY generous, helpful and hard-working
>We all are ok with posting collaborations that was headed by me on my soundcloud, but for some reason Weim can't post his work on his YT?
Weim is very generous: he's got a team working under/with him doing stuff for us.
He is helpful.
He is hard-working and visibly so: more so than the most of us, myself included.
I am not trying to create/enforce any sort of double standard.
I am not trying to cast doubt on any of his actions.
At most, I try to play critic or devil's advocate and consistently do a bad job of it.

...
Also, is it just me or has the thread shrunk from 370 posts to 60 posts?

Assuming you're >>27600380, here are some lyrics I wrote up. You'll probably need to change them up a bit to fit the song, even remove a few parts. Feel free to ask me if you need parts of it rewritten to fit. I can also try something else if they don't work:

(Verse@1:08)
Wrapped in slim I feel,
Beasts crawling over me,
Sharp horns and feet,
A buzzing as large as a sea.
Coating me in a hunger,
I’ve never experienced before.
Something’s inside,
I’m being eaten away.
Where am I,
Could I not run?
So it seems
Being trapped here,
Is it for all eternity?
I push and pull, but my arms are weak,
Bound by this sticky grease.
And then, before my eyes,
The cocoon darkens,
As a figure flies before my shell.
And a sinister laugh tells me.
This is about to become my hell.

(Chorus@1:41)
Queen, try and suck my honey,
And leave me dead and dry,
But the moment you bite,
The moment you feed,
Unfortunately, you’ll find,
That there’s nothing left inside.
Too bad you’ll see,
That there’s no more love left in me.
So, go ahead and do your worst.
I’m already as angry as can be.

(Verse@2:22)
Suddenly, the surface tears open,
And the monster shrieks there before me.
Horn as rotten as her flesh,
Holes in every limb.
Hair that reeks of mold.
Skin rotting and black.
But I stare into her eyes,
And there’s a woman I perceive,
Who thirsts not for blood,
But for an emotion that drives humanity.
Her teeth come down,
And impale my flesh,
Hoping for a meal,
In a desert of a body.
The sucking like a magic,
Pulling from the depths of my soul.
How unlucky for us both,
That her teeth will only feel loath.

(Chorus@2:55)
Queen try and suck my honey,
And leave me dead and dry,
But the moment you bite,
The moment you feed,
Unfortunately, you’ll find,
That there’s nothing left inside.
Too bad you’ll see,
That there’s no more love left in me.
So, go ahead and do your worst.
I’m already as angry as can be.
>>
>>27607214
(Break@3:43)
Eat me.
Suck me.
Bite me.
Kill me.
You’ve taken everything,
Destroyed all that I loved.
Desecrated this land
And everything that stands and breathes.
Leaving it in pieces,
A ruin of what once was.
And you hope to expect,
That still something is left in me.

(Chorus@5:06)
Queen try and suck my honey,
And leave me dead and dry,
But the moment you bite,
The moment you feed,
Unfortunately, you’ll find,
That there’s nothing left inside.
Too bad you’ll see,
That there’s no more love left in me.
So, go ahead and do your worst.
I’m already as angry as can be.

Wrapped in film I feel,
things i just can't believe are real
Shadows that creep all over me,
back and forth in anarchy
Thorny hooves and empty husks
Buzzin 'round from dawn to dusk
Loud as raging waters
Never stopping, growing louder
Something else in me
eats away my sanity
Where am I,
Why can't i flee
They have me trapped in here
For all eternity!?!?
I push and pull, but my arms are weak,
Bound by this sticky grease.
I hear it cackle more than cry
and my prison darkens as she flies
she lands outside my prison cell
And laughs at my new hell

i don't know if these lyrics will match well with what you were going for but i decided to give it a try anyway. everything just sounds better when it rhymes

these are good sounding, but i think my time of screaming vocals are gone, i sing happily, like the beach boys, my voice simply isn't dark enough to sound as metal as the song needs,

that isn't stopping me though, but if there is a lyricist with more experience screaming vocals then i want them to do it.

okay, i've made what i could with the lyrics sound guy gave me, and i got to fucking around and figured that i can make myself sound exactly like a changeling. so- can we get some lyrics from the perspective of a changling?

the lyrics are not ryhming so the entire thing is discordant, but i guess- listen to the voice, kinda a demo for how i can make myself sound.

also, please don't laugh, because this was not intended to be anywhere near a final vocals, it's actually the first stage, where i basically put the vocals where i need them to be in the song to lay everything out, and then i sing atop them with much more effort.

TL:DR please be gentle. there's a reason for everything being so damn discordant.

Damn, this is evil. I expected there would be a bit more... Singing, y'know. At least music implies it, it's not Burzum or even Satyricon, we need to be more like Alice in Chains or if you don't like that direction, southern metal. This kind of stuff you pulled off could work to if you could sing like that: find Injustrial - "The day we die" or "The faceless scourge"

Here you go

All of a sudden torn from my womb
The creature shrieks for my doom
Horn as rotten as her flesh
A forked tongue, and fangs to gnash
Hair that reeks of mold.
And stares me dead and cold
A pretty little liar i can see
About to rip out my humanity
More pain, more torture, more blood
It's my heart she wants to flood
But her teeth come down on stone
My muscle turned to bone
Her hunger she wants quenched
From the desert body of a wretch
She sucks so smooth and hard
With her magic my body's marred
Pulling from the depths of my soul.
How unlucky for us both,
Instead of love she finds loath.

>>
>>27624535
The low voice is good. If possible, a little more annunciation can help, as some words get slurred together (then again, this is metal, so it's not uncommon to not be able to understand the lyrics at all). The main critique I have is when you do your high voice. It sounds kinda silly, and it's possible it may not fit those few parts. Can you tone down the silliness just a bit or is that how your voice just does things/? If not, we might want to find someone just for those few high parts. Also, when you complete this and are ready to do the final takes, just make sure you do multiple takes for double tracking.

i like the alice voice better than the second voice you did. I think maybe if you mix in a little screaming into your voice that could work a little better. if you use filters maybe try what linkin park does with the slightly echoed voice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2H4l9RpkwM
>>
>>27629152
Is that you playing? That's some very fine guitar work going on there, and even though the audio itself is, as you said, demo quality, the guitar itself sounds great. Some lyrics, melody, and singing can use some tightening up, but that's implied. Is this just for fun, or do want to try and get it finished before the album deadline?

>>27627992
Your happy voice is nice m8. That alice in chains voice could fit well with some double tracking and light distortion.
>filters
what kind of filters/modulation? and just in case you don't know, make sure whatever final takes you eventually send are both the modulated and dry vocals. Effects and whatnot are typically done on the mixing engineers side
>>
>>27627992
Modulation is fine in the end but i'm gonna need clean, unprocessed vocals to do a mix, so we need to make you as close as possible without effects. Ofc, i will need to hear your processed vocal track too to use as a reference of what you want to get in the end. Here's the links i couldn't posted earlier from my phone btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqEskcK8PPk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJOmAE8077Q Maybe you could go this way.

Alice-in-chains vocal seems fine but i guess i need to hear it over the music.

So, i trust you to decide what will be most comfortable way for you to sing it, make a proper demo and let's dance from there. You're doing good so far.

Well, I didn't expect this kind of commotion.

Functional sheet music: http://www.mediafire.com/download/eqapg41g8156vrr
Pretty sheet music: http://www.mediafire.com/download/z7g9cxrmio1oxjd
MP3 of the MIDI: http://www.mediafire.com/download/mwvipgg2p2emjv6

As always, take liberties where you don't think you can play what's written: my composing is just that... "demanding".
Also, take liberties on the actual fingering: I noticed, when I tried, that some of the fingering isn't as comfortable as some variations.
Also also, the dynamics didn't come out in the sheet music: all those semiquavers (16th notes?) were tabbed as alternating loud-quiet. Play that or as it's written or only half the notes or what have you.
Also also also, bar 93/94 or so, instead of playing what I've called the old outro, play bar 93 as a simple G, bar 94 as a simple A and finish it there.

>Is the bass part hard?
No.

You mean... you mean you don't know?
Well, shit man: Dzahlus had you down as mixing this thing so I'd assumed he'd already spoken to you.

Right, the low-down: Dzahlus and I have been making a song for the past couple of months.
Dzahlus did the lyrics and will do singing.
I did the compositional side of things.

Instruments:
Vocals - Dzahlus
Piano - Currently, MIDI with Arachno soundfont (do I need to ask for permission from the maker to use it?)
Electric guitar - Anon
Violin - Hopefully Engie (if only I can get senpai to notice me~!!)
Cello - Originally ElectroCelloFag but now he's ElectroCello-less so he's just Fag now... Position's open
Bass - Either Anoridan's significant other, Anon or me
Drums - Apparently Wootmaster

So far, only piano and electric guitar's done.

So, uh... are you willing to mix another one of Dzahlus' songs?

Anyway. The guitar part is is really really really good. Seriously. You make me want to sell my guitar.

However, the voice part is a little off. Some notes here and there a off by a little and the lyrics could use some work. I think it would work better with a lower pitched voice. But whatever mayne its your song.

Overall the guitar part is really fucking good but the singing could use some work.

Yes, ofc. i'll mix it, I'm just not sure this thing will be done before release. And i let you handle all the production - i'll just render and mix whatever comes my way. I expect you to be thorough. Especially about Dzah's vocals. Make him deliver vocals that are as in-key as possible. He needs his exercises.

Few notes;
Piano: if it's a _piano_ soundfont, chances are we're better off using stuff i have, so don't worry about rendering it, just use sound you have as a placeholder.

Cello - we can try and reach Ziggeh.

Woot delivers very slow, if you're willing to wait it's your call. But we always have samplers.

>>27641067
Nice tune, overally. Make it happen, guys.

>What's this? DEAD ANONS UPDATE!?
Yes, there is finally a dead anons update. So, this is basically the general sorta final composition. This is not mixed, so don't look at that. There are also small things like delays, reverbs, fixing small timing issues (vocals and guitars and whatnot, especially at that ritardando at the end of the heavy stuff), how long instruments sustain into different sections, etc. I'm also going to be muting some notes in the horns and strings chords that don't add anything May or may not add cinematic hits during the part where the drums come in (around 1:15 or something). Enough talk on my end. What do you all think?

Me and my other friend recorded bass part. Gonna look at it tommorow and upload it.

Also, we've recorded sax sample for Plays2 today. This was the last part.

>That's a lot to get
Like any of my plans, all the composition work is done beforehand. All that's required is performers.
I simply hope this one doesn't befall the same fate as all my other plans.

>Anoridan, I, or any other anons with good samples might have to help you out
At this rate, it'll be the crutch I need to fall back on, as much as I hate asking and as much as I want people and their performances, unadulterated from the touch of synthetic imitations (and other reasons I hold on to on the basis of principle but I shan't insult your offer any further).
I'll take you up on the offer if Anons and namefags fail to deliver.

>>27643889
>I expect you to be thorough
I have the raw files of Anon's guitar. I'll go over which ones are suitable to send to you.
>Piano
If you are going to do the piano, that's fine. It means I don't have to track down this David Deutschmann fella who made the soundfont I'm currently using.
On the other hand, I had been juggling notes around to try to improve the sound.

>Cello
Ziggeh is ElectroCelloFag. He has explained to me that it is highly unlikely he's able to play anything cello or cello-like in the near future.

>Woot
Right... I've talked about contingency plans and crutches already.
If he doesn't deliver or doesn't have time... yeah...

>>27645553
>Yes, there is finally a dead anons update
HUZZAH!

>What do you all think?
I'm surprised there's more singing and whatnot. Haven't heard more than half of this.
I question the drums: with the drum rolls and off-beat-triplet-doodahs, whether they fit.
The drums might fit better after everything's mixed, though.

>name
Summarise what the lyrics of the song is about and use something in that summary as the name?

>>27648745
>Me and my other friend recorded bass part. Gonna look at it tommorow and upload it
I eagerly await the bass.

>Also, we've recorded sax sample for Plays2 today
Ooh... I remember you said you more or less dropped the sax.
Or, at least, the sax solo/improv.

I feel ya. It'd be nice if people reliably delivered on this board or irl. However, we should probably start picking out samples, just in case.

It has more vocals than i remember.
Like every part of the song except for the horns/trumpet at 2:04.
