To be fair, that's more like a problem with the quality of the games themselves rather than the series put into them.
A SRW with all obscure series but have highly-polished gameplay and presentation, and proper marketing strategy will do more for the series than one with all famous series, but is a soulless copy-pasted product. Of course that's not what those producers are thinking.
Maybe if Bamco gave the series some actual budget it deserves...

Neither is really playable. Not sure why Tengoku-hen isn't playable, since it should have the same engine and whatnot. I've also read that the triple route split on mission 35 in Jigoku-hen causes a crash, so I'm not even sure about Jigoku-hen.

Moon Dwellers, like 2ndOGs, is unstable to begin with, but also suffers from having to be reinstalled every time. The saves don't get corrupted, but all the installed data does.

I'd argue that they're quite possibly the best part of the franchise. They do a lot to flesh out the series (which is sorely needed - while I like the games, I'll be the first to admit that their writing doesn't exactly do much to present compelling characters). In all honesty, Gensokyo is one of my favorite fantasy settings, precisely because of the ways the side material tends to explore and utilize the setting's particular quirks (the various racial tensions and political maneuverings, the ubiquitous shinto influence, the central conceit that Gensokyo is the home of things that have been forgotten or disbelieved elsewhere, etc).

It has some interesting things, and Setsuko's OG plot is pretty well done, but the mid-game route split is horrifyingly bland compared to Land's version. It's basically constant Zeta/Seed spam, with the occasional guest appearance from the boring and/or annoying parts of Gravion.

If you haven't done so you should check out the recent Alternative Facts in Eastern Utopia release. It's another in world release in the vein of BAiJR and SoPM's mini articles which flesh out the world and various characters personalities.

It's pretty thoroughly entertaining and most of the articles have gotten translated between the wiki and Danbooru. It goes some ways to fleshing out the new cast and also revisiting some of the older cast and what they're up to.

I think you're confusing story with the quality of the writing. The games are full of entertaining individual moments and at times can be straight up brilliant.

No, Nero is not the problem. She's not amazing and her shtick gets annoying, but oh jesus she is probably the only good ally character in that chapter aside from Spartacus. Everyone else on your side is either super-bland like Jing Ke or an act of horrific character assassination like Boudica. The villains are miles and away better characters, all cool crazy dudes except for the problem that every single fucking one of them has to creep on Nero (It was funny when Caligula did it, but jesus guys, it gets old fast).

But no. The problem with Septem is that it has AWFUL pacing. Endless. Fucking. Pointless. Fights with random Roman dudes. You arrive? Roman dudes to fight? You go to Rome? Bandits who look like legionnaires. You sit down for 5 minutes? Roman dudes attack the gates. You leave to do something? More fucking roman dudes and like 2 golems. Its fucking ENDLESS, to the point where once the fucking wyverns get pulled right out of Altera's ass you're fucking cheering and rushing to get your Kojiro out of mothballs. This chapter was not written, it was extruded, like a turd made out of larping equipment and leather sandals.

It's probably closer to 2 years at this point. At this point I feel comfortable saying that the issue is probably not the text. From what I recall of that anons story, it sounded like they got a lot of the script in a readable form, the problem was organising a single editor to make it all consistent. That's not a fun job, because Alphas script is not only long, its convoluted since it has a lot of minor script alterations based on flags, like skill points, the various protagonists and rivals/love interests, and a bunch of other tiny changes based on things you can do. So you need to hand the different chunks out to all the volutneers, but you also have to edit them back together and make the whole thing, and all the different permutations, flow as a consistent piece. It sounds like a nightmare unless you like combining mecha fanfics from different writers into cohesive narratives as a hobby.

But I suspect the real blocker might be gideon not feeling like getting all that text to slot into the system of the game itself. His last SRW post was something about not being able to get 2 different bits of data to show on a mech screen at the same time in SNES Masoukishin, and given how the Alpha Gaiden patch, while great ,was riven with glitches like that, I can only imagine an even less formalised game like Alpha 1 will have ten times as many edge cases to fix, that would only be caught by continous playtesting, which means he would need to not only bodge the whole thing together but get people to test the fuck out of the thing on every single plot permutation.

Or he can translate 5 wierd JRPGs with cult followings with the same effort, and be the hero of the internet now that romhacking.net is apparently dying.

Sabers are in a weird place in the game. Outside of the extra classes, they're the only class in the game that has no cards below 3* in rarity. F/GO launched with two silver Saber's, and in the two years since, it added one more. Of those three, only Caesar is really notable, plus he's one of a minority of ST ones.

Basically, if you want a good Saber you have to be either willing to spend or extremely lucky.

Aeon Genesis finished translating Masoukishin around 3 months ago
I asked the translator (who is the same guy working on SRW A Portable and SRW 2) on why it took so long and apparently the old translator would finish scripts really quickly but the end result wasn't that good, so he decided to retranslate the whole thing from scratch which took him a really long time (since masoukishin has a lot of references and looking them up is time consuming)
right now masoukishin is in the editing phase with less than 12k lines remaining
all that is left is for Aeon to finish hacking the game (keep in mind he has been doing this since 1999 and currently he is a busy man and can only hack during his lunch break)
the translator might do another SRW whenever he gets some free time
last year he translated X-SERD and Vixen 357 check them out

Every single one of Haruna's units on her early splits are mediocre in comparison to Takumi's units outside of Kohaku vs Hisui. She also has Shirou when he's still like the worst unit in the game on her side. Its not really a content.

Haruna herself ends up good and the same goes for Shirou and Sakura but they're late bloomers. Lancer never really hits the line above okay as far as I'm concerned.

Indisputably yes. Siegfried barely breaks 11k attack at maximum, which is pathetic for a 4*. His skills are also pretty bad. Golden Rule isn't very good for NP gain, especially for someone with only two Arts cards. And Dragon Slayer is a complete meme. His entire niche is based around killing Dragon-type enemies, but he's outdone in that by virtually any Assassin since most of the time, Dragons are going to be Riders, thus he gets no class advantage. The only enemies he'll ever reach his full potential against are Liz, the Lancer Artorias, or Summer Kiyohime. The Lancers will probably steamroll him regardless and you'll never face Summer Kiyohime as an enemy, so Siegfried finds himself in the pathetic job of anti-Liz. His strengthen quests do provide him with a Buster buff and NP gain on Balmung, but it's not enough to make him worth using. Even Lily is better than him, since she has more useful skills and a good bond CE despite having even lower ATK.

Caesar on the other hand is very useful despite his lower rarity. Charisma and Military Tactics are always excellent skills to have, and Crocea Mors has good stargen since it hits so many times. This has good synergy with Incitement once he unlocks it. Plus, as mentioned, he's a ST Saber, which there aren't many of. Until Bedivere comes out, he'll be the best 3* Saber in the game. Naturally he's outclassed by higher-rarity ones, but he's the easiest to get if you have no better alternatives.
