I liked the movie a lot. It has a sense of almost youthful energy to it. SSP is less annoying at least for me. Jugglar is more of a troll than outright antagonizing here. The team up is also fine and does the job.
It's a better end to Orb than the TV series proper, like how X's movie was a more definitive end for X. If this is the way Tsuburaya wants to go, I have good hope for the Geed movie if they do one

Even Orb's fusions with Seven as a component are pretty heavily armored. Solid Burning is more blatant about the "armor" bit though and is pretty mechanical-looking.

What an Ultra is "made of" has always been pretty ambiguous. Their bodies are kind of both clothing and flesh and mechanical-looking bits like beam emitters and Color Timers are treated as "organs."

I'm surprised to find that for a show that's more based in pre-existing lore, Geed seems to be shaping up to be a good place for people to start into Ultraman.

Episode 0 catches you up on the DEEP LORE about Belial and Zero, so yes, you can watch it without prior knowledge about the Ultraman franchise.

You can watch the Episode 0 preview, as it runs down some of the relevant backstory about Zero and Belial, if you're new. You really don't need a lot to get into the series thus far other than knowing "Belial is an evil bastard".

You can also watch the movies that episode 0 deals with yourself, because they're really good. That would be the Ultra Galaxy Legend movie, Ultraman Zero: Revenge of Belial, and Ultra Zero Fight.

Just finished Ultraman 80, then watched the 80 episode of Mebius.

The show is weird in that it's almost in segments. The first half is amazing, then it goes down to "solid and fun," then takes an enormous nosedive in the last batch of episodes into "stupid and not interesting" with a few good eps sprinkled in. Then the last 2 episodes kick it into high gear and are awesome. Overall I really do have a soft spot for the series, and am very glad I got a chance to watch it.

The Mebius episode is a perfect way to truly end 80's story, by showing how much influence he had on his students. I reared up when they saw him again, even yelling "That's him! That's our Ultraman!" It tackled 80's regret on quitting teaching, and it felt like a great cap to 80.

Also, with the amount of kaiju and seizing abusively re-used nowadays, it's a shame 80's monsters don't get some time to shine.

King Galtan would make for a good big bad in an Ultra series, considering he went to war with M78 and almost killed their princess. Also Plazma and Minazma were pretty great final bosses for 80, and I'd like to see them get recognition as heavy hitters.

I've noticed that all of the Showa Ultras get fairly regular representation but Ace and 80. I wonder why that is? On the Heisei side, Max and Xenon are also pretty much forgotten despite Max's series being really popular.

So I just finished watching Nexus for the first time. Goddamn that was a trip, I wish it got the full planned course, but the ending was pretty much perfect for how it wrapped up all the characters's arcs regardless.

As a kid who grew up with Dyna over Tiga, I'd say that there is a good balance of serious episodes and light-hearted episodes. Asuka was very charismatic and does develop with rigorous challenges and lessons that are much straightforward as opposed to Tiga's which were more thematic. There's just an element of genuine "cool" when it comes to seeing Dyna fight and learn at the same time.

Zero has grown a lot as a character over time. I used to dislike him for being an out of place boisterous shonen protagonist type, but he's mellowed out into a more level-headed (but still kind of cocky) young hero. The only problem is that he's still susceptible to being a Sue at times with lots of upgrades and powers thrown his way.

Which is nice that he's been kept to his own side stories before now. He's also been kept from full-Sue territory just because his own cockiness and stubbornness get him into just as many problems.

It helps that he has access to none of his forms in Geed and has to rely on his basic skills while also being held back a bit by Reito's relatively weak will. He's still formidable, but he can't just whip out Ultimate Zero whenever he wants to curbstomp whatever it is now. Gaining access to Beyond will likely be a turning point for both Reito and Zero as characters.

Zero specifically says that he's too weak to fight again when the Darklops come back, and wants to take a back-seat to Geed for the time being. I don't think Reito's timidity has anything to do with it, since Zero straight-up hijacks control of his body as he wants.

It's a little different than when he was merged with Taiga. Taiga was a cunt and was actively resisting the bond at first, which is why Zero couldn't just body-jack him and was small when he forced a transformation. Reito is timid, but we can already tell he has a good heart though simple stuff like caring about his family and throwing away that banana peel and he doesn't seem to mind Zero riding along.

As someone that's seen the entirety of the franchise Dyna is hands down the best entry, Tiga had a lot of super serial moments and a lot of the monsters were copy and pasted from older entries while Dyna took more effort for more unique monsters. Gaia is a very close second place overall in the franchise.

Well ganma weren't that unique, a bunch of them were just clothes or armor thrown on top of the regular mook suit. Drive also had three "base" roidmudes that were killed many times over in place of actual unique roidmudes.

There's a big reason it can't be M78 though. Zero only showed up after Earth had already colonized other planets via ZAP Spacy. Even if King had purposefully rolled back Earth's technological state, there'd still be a bunch of human-crewed ships out there, and at least one would have run any sort of blockade to see home again if they were out there.

I could also point out that Zero arrived through one of his dimensional portals via the Aegis, rather than just flying in.

There was also no sign of Rei in the battle in the beginning against Belial, and last we knew he was headed to Earth.

It's all circumstantial, but the simplest explanation IMO is that it's a parallel universe still, just a neighboring one instead of a distant one like the Saga and Ultimate Force Zero ones.

I will admit though that if it is the M78 base universe, it would have given a very good reason for King to intervene before the Land of Light got taken out too, and a reason why Belial was bothering to try and blow it up in the first place other than because he could - even when he was in another universe, his entire plan there revolved around building up a force to take on the M78 'verse.
