Still a damn good kit, and a perfect representation of the suit. If I ever get more space one of the first MGs I'll get will be of this guy.

Thanks again to those that recommended me this kit. I had a blast assembling it and the actual figure looks great. All the hands make him really fun to play around with, and the fire effects are awesome too. Hopefully it looks alright for my first kit, although I had no idea how the fuck to do panel lines. Wasn't sure what to line and what not to, or how thick I should try and get the ink on. Any advice in that regard would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on how much color you're using. Gunmetal is a goo secondary color to red, but gold is good for small highlights.

Hey, I just finished this, and it's my second kit ever. It really is super articulated.

I think you did well. I think your panel lines came out pretty nice, in my novice oppinion. They're really clean. I'm still getting better with washing so I feel like mine are always a little gross, especially on lines that aren't grooves, but rather just height gradients. I'm not sure if there's a term for that.

Just finished snapfitting the Catsith, I'm honestly surprised by how solid it feels: not a single loose joint. Even the loosest joint (one of the feet) feels not-loose, if that makes sense, plus it balances well, even with all the shit at the back.

Are the rest of the Reconguista in G models like it or is it just a stroke of luck?

Just finished painting my first Gundam. Really proud of how it turned out. Made some mistakes. Learned a lot. I'm never painting with Tamiya ever again, at least not for models that require so much hand painting.

Also, when I was doing the panel wash clean up, I found that my q-tips were being destroyed very quickly and the fibers were separating from them almost immediately. Is that normal? All the videos I've seen show the q-tips largely staying intact.

Being about the same price, you do get a bit more with vanilla Barbatos (mace, sword, alternate arm). Both are good choices though, enjoy them!

I actually just got a bunch of Vallejo in the mail yesterday. I'm excited to try it.

I'm used to painting with Reaper paints for DnD minis. Reaper's really hit or miss with airbrushing unfortunately. Even when thinned heavily it has weird sputtering problems I don't get with any other brand of paint.

Being so familiar with hand painting all of my models, it was really frustrating being so handicapped by Tamiya.

The air line is fine for airbrushing (you may want to add a drop or two of thinner to them though as "prethinned" doesn't necessarily mean correctly thinned). The game and model color lines are the ones that airbrush like shit. I brought up the alcohol thing because it basically turns vallejo into sticky gum.

Not the exactly the same kit, but ive herd a lot of stuff from build fighters if really good with posing. I do recommend you learn how to pannle line though. Watch some videos or something. It makes kits look SO much better, even if thats the only thing you do to it, and it isint even really that hard.

Eh, paint is pretty thick and you're using quite a lot of solid color so it looks worse than it actually is.
You need to get/make off colors so that you don't have all hard black or hard gray going together, different shades improve things immensely. The thighs are a good example of you doing a part well, the rest of it falls flat of that one point.
Are you ever gonna lay off of the Miku colorscheme?

I've only got like three bottles of spray paint and don't plan on buying more, so I'm gonna stick to that color scheme.

couple tips, gundam color schemes usually have a primary color (white), secondary color(blue), and detail/accent colors(yellow, red)
i think it would have looked better if you made grey primary, black secondary, and the teal for accents/details
the chest and face lacks some details, maybe add some black to the vents and the places that used to be yellow

I think graze derivatives would help ensure a little more diversity in custom builds. Pure grazes would require more scratchbuilding to really make them stand out and frankly, I don't think we have enough people here who could pull that off.

Daban seems to faithfully copy whatever the base model is, but they use shittier plastic. Can't possibly be worse than fucking Gaogao, IMO.

The "PG" Phenex seems to be a scaled-up MG Phenex, but they apparently did a lot of undergating (I haven't built it yet). The gold isn't fantastic, but if I build It I'll be repainting everything anyway.

The way I'd do it is I'd buy the Daban kit, then if you really liked it, and felt really let down by the Daban kit, consider investing in the original Bandai. I did that for the Infinite Justice. As a bonus you'll have experience building the original Bandai kit.

Building the Jesta Cannon right now. Plastic quality is not bad at all, but the injection isnt as precise as Bandai, obviously. The edges feel a bit rough and has some miniscule amounts of flash.

Polycaps are kinda meh, some are too tight, some just doesnt feel right for some reason, you gotta experience it to properly explain.

Start with cutting the part off the runner leaving a significant amount of the tree still attached to the part. Then clip of those part closer to the piece itself. This will minimize stress marks.

Use a sharp hobby knife to trim the nub as much as you can without risk of cutting into the part itself. A gouge is much harder to correct than a nub.

Follow up with sandpaper, gradually from medium to light to fine grit. Having said sandpaper attached to a precision tool will help.

The 1/100 NGs of yesteryear, specifically the SEED and 00 lines, are basically just large HGs. They hardly even bear comparison to the IBO 1/100 kits, which possess full inner frames, MG level part and color separation, and gimmicks far superior to their HG counterparts.

Honestly the only reason I believe that they decided to create a new line, rather than just call them MG IBO, is because of the extremely high level of interchangeable part between the kits.

Kitbashing HGs tends to be easy. Polycaps are mostly standardized even among kits from different series. Doing the same on a MG level presents greater challenges, because unless they also share very similar frames, like the Wing or SEED units, you are going to be doing a LOT of modding.

The 1/100 IBO line is a compromise between the size and detail of a MG with the ease of customization that HGs offer.
