***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== ACE PILOT GROUP BUILD (FINAL WEEK) ==

Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

Prizes include:
>1st Place: Any HG kit under $25 + an Action Base 2
>2nd Place: Any HG kit under $15
>3rd Place: An Action Base 2
(Note: Shipping is to USA and Canada only)

Group build ends on November 7th, lets gunpla!

Intermediate airbrush skillz
>>
>>14900215

Whats to airbrush? I just figured that was a matte topcoat.
>>
>>14900236

Some things need painting. Like the inside of thrusters in that kit you posted. I don't know if THAT KIT SPECIFICALLY needs paint there, but 9 out of 10 times they need the inside of the thruster painted. In order to remove seam lines you will have to seam weld then airbrush a new coat of paint over to really get rid of it.
>>
>>14900236
Kits in promo images are usually airbrushed, a matte topcoat wouldn't make it look that good.
>>
>>14900208
Literally just follow the painting guide on the back of the manual. All the paints should basically be mr.color paints and you will need and airbrush setup and appropriate respirator.

And yes, the ones in the pics on the manuals and box are 100% painted.

For their promo pics at webshops they sometimes just line and touch up the bare plastic.

The main reason airbrush threads are not encouraged is because he's filtered by many people for association with snapshit. So his threads won't appeared for many therefore results in even slower posts.
>>
>>14900769

I am not really a fan of Amazing Red Warrior. If you want a Build Fighters MG the Fenice Rinascita is basically perfect. If you want an RX-78-2 there's the 2.0 for all the goodies or the Origin for the latest engineering and posability.
>>
>>14900897
i'd go for the fenice if hobbywave had it in stock
>>
>>14900907
get the origin rx-78 or turn x both are great
>>
>>14900916

Turn X is kinda rare and expensive as fuck, so he might want to start with something smaller and more widely available.

Another option would be Gundam X/Double X. They're well-engineered, solid, gimmicks are well executed, they look good, and they're both somewhat cheap.
>>
>>14900674
>I feel like even with the newer people there's less of a desire to think things through and really understand the process and more just crazy overshooting
I actually do think things through, I just have very little practical experience.
>>
>>14900923
gundam x is bad and turn x is not expensive, only if you're poor
>>
>>14900937
70 dollars for a model kit is expensive regardless of income. it depends on how much a person values it.

I generally try to do HGs and bootlegs before MGs and PGs, as practice.

Can any gun guys tell me where wear builds up the most on a pump action shotgun? I'm looking to weather this shotgun a bit, but I have no experience with firearms.

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10368098
>>
So, I fucked up.
A while back I went to a hobby shop out of town and bought some kits and a tamiya brand topcoat to see the difference between what I have available locally. Looks like I grabbed gloss instead of matte and all I have left to topcoat next are a Gouf and Hy-Gogg which don't really seem like the shiny types. I got an MG Kampfer, but I was saving a "wet look" for that to see how it works.
>>
>>14901250

This is something you should ask /k/.
>>
>>14901250
Along the pump slide, trigger and handle. Where else would it wear? Anywhere that comes in contact with moving parts will experience wear and tear.

>>
>>14901295
It's going to be used in a GM Ground Type custom, in the jungle, so I don't want it to be pristine.
>>
>>14901257
If you're panel lining, should you glosscoat or mattecoat?
>>
>>14901306
gloss
>>
>>14901306
Gloss, but you can also do a final topcoat as gloss for a kit if it's meant to look shiny.
>>
>>14901250
The slide rail for the pump will obviously scrape down to the metal over time, as well as the slide for the ejector. The trigger guard and trigger will both wear down around the edges from hands/gloves running over them thousands of times, as well as the rails on top and the stock is bound to wear no matter what with plenty of inward scraping along the end
>>
How do you guys get into pla plating gunpla? My imagination must be fucking terrible because I don't even know what to do with it.
>>
>>14901306
Gloss, so you can wipe away any execs or spills. If it spills over on a matte coat, you won't be able to wipe it away.
>>
I figured out a new cheap source of sprue cutters. You can buy cheap pairs of flush cutters from your nearest hardware store and run the back of the cutters over a file until they are perfectly flush, then sharpen them with a but of 600~ git sand paper.

For some reason when the land combat gundam was released and they showed it's connection to the waterproof gundam I went on a limb and suggested it might get a model. Sadly it was pbandai. Now we have that orange prototype guncannon and possibility for the standard prototype gundam around the corner. Although they changed the origins prototype design for some reason when I came across this guy I had a feeling we might see it originfied as well.

Reworking the prototype or just straight up land combat type I could see this around the corner. We have a land combat type, this is full armor land type. It shares the beam saber storage style. Using the missile pods from guncannon origin and standard cannon for the back. The reason I hope my feelings right again is we might see a standard or origin full armor gundam help gap the bridges in msv and msd lines.

Granted I'd personally would love a normal msv prototype gundam with its slimmer limbs and such to help differentiate it, I could see the origins rock this especially with the visor.

You just sprayed topcoat on top of just the plastic with the decals applied? Or did you paint color on it before the top coat?

I ask because I am thinking about spraying a matte top coat on upcoming gunpla and some Robot Damashii mecha toys after I apply some decals to them, and Im looking for a good matte topcoat that will look nice on bare plastic and hopefully blend the decal edges to the surface plastic.
>>
>>14902052
No amount of topcoat can hide the edges of stickers sadly, you can trim the edges and use matte topcoat and it will be less noticeable from a distance but if you don't want to see edges at all you gotta use waterslides

If you can, get tamiya's. The stuff at Michael's is probably testor's, but I can't speak to the quality of it. Tamiya's on the other hand is amazing. What you don't want is regular masking tape or painter's tape. Regular masking tape has too much adhesive and doesn't do a good job making sure paint doesn't bleed underneath. Painters tape is way too thick, and I've also gotten paint bleeding underneath it

>>
>>14902763
I did keep it. Also, the kit wasn't actually damaged, but the box was
>>
>>14902710

Testor's enamels are pretty good for brushing, except for some asshole colors like red and white, and they airbrush well enough as long as you thin the hell out of them. Testor's acrylics, on the other hand, are almost all fucking garbage and the only good one is flat black, which brushes on amazingly well.

Tamiya is definitely better hands down, so I second the suggestion if the person asking can find them.
>>
>>14902796

>>
>>14902849
Pbandai is only particularly expensive if you buy from price gougers or are after a kit that has not been printed in quite a while.
They usually follow stock kit prices by +/- $10 otherwise.
>>
>>14902854

Oh, my bad, I missed the part about it being about tape since I automagically assume paint when I read "testors and tamiya".

I second your stance on Tamiya tape being great. One wouldn't think there'd be much of a difference when it comes to tape, but Tamiya tape both sticks well and doesn't leave behind any spooge when removed like cheapo masking tape does.

Quick question. I've built half a dozen to a dozen kits since starting, mostly snapshit but steadily increasing in quality as I learn how to better hide nub marks and detail, but I have yet to do much in the way of painting.

I plan to get an airbrush eventually, but I need to use spray cans in the short term so I can finish someone's Christmas present. What should I look for in my sprays? Is there anything that I absolutely should not use?

He's just one of the guys complaining about last episode being "filler" because it didn't have giant robot action and advanced the plot instead.

A terrorist attack goes off on Earth and the Tekkadan Earth branch is essentially cut off from the mars branch and their leader is out of commision. Currently it looks like they are being set up as the fall guys for something big about to happen and Orga is sending several people to Earth to check things out because the way their comm requests keep getting blown off is suspicious.

Overall S2 has been better so far and the action will be back next episode by the looks of the previews.

Markers can be quicker and more convenient, but a panel wash can get into smaller crevices and gives you the ability to use whatever colours you want, which can give a better.
Also, you don't need to use a gundam marker, as the guide points out, Sakura (also called Pigma Micron) and Copic markers work too.
Another think to keep in mind is that if you're painting a kit (I assume you're not, but just for future reference) you will have to do a panel wash.
As for top coat making the markers run, sorry, never tried so I couldn't tell you

Oh, and one last thing. For best results, as a rule of thumb, grey panel line on lighter colours, black on darker, and brown on reds

What's the popularity of the GatlingGouf? Easily available for a reasonable price on Amazon?
>>
>>14904769
Can you share the .lsr files?

Gouf Custom thoroughly styled on the main protagonists in 08th MS Team.
>>
>>14906320

I did
>>
Anybody do anything specific to get motivated to take on your backlog?
>>

Ahhhhh, Thanks. that was very helpful.

Its like $15 on amazon and it looks really sick with that Gatling shield. Plus it was the first thing I got in Gundam Breaker 3 and I loved it. I Justed dl'd 08th ms team going to watch it this weekend
>>
>>14906306

Zona absolutely, avoid x-acto (but their metal mitre box is great)
>>
>>14906434
That's the impression I've been getting looking around too. The two on Amazon I'm seeing are either the 11" one, which is pretty big, and the 9" one, which seems like it has a really shallow blade. Which one would be better here?
>>
>>14906439

9" should be more than enough, as long as the blade is tall enough to stand in the mitre box thats really all that matters
>>
>>14906441
The blade's 7/16" deep, but if that's enough then I'll go ahead and pick that one up. Thanks, anon.

>Want to get perfect grade

>ebay listings all have stupidly high shipping
>aliexpress doesn't accept paypal

what do?
>>
>>14906465

get a better job I guess
>>
>>14906465
Get a credit card. Seriously, it's not that hard to do. Just make sure you have enough money to pay the bill. Also, always pay the bill in full.
>>
>>14906465
>>14906467
>>14906470
Or you could just go on craigslist and find people who need help moving furniture or some shit. Easy $100 right there.
>>
>>14906470
I already have a debit card, I've been thinking of getting a prepaid visa but then you go through the hassle of Paypal trying to ban you for using a credit card which is the stupidest shit on the planet. the credit card won't really help with shipping and where I am most 1st party PGs are all $400 which is way too much for a 12-inch tall plastic model

>>14906472
>Cash can be used for online shopping

>Cash cannot be deposited into a bank account.
>>
>>14905142
Oh shit, I didn't know there was MJP plamo...
>>
>>14906483
I know that you can do that, but paying through bank transfers and credit cards just sounds really complicated and convoluted to me.
>>
>>14906487
When was the last time you had a bank account? Chase charges you nothing for their services. You could always connect your bank account to a paypal account and deposit cash into an ATM that'll instantly go directly towards buying shit online.

It's a hell of a lot easier than whatever you're imagining.
>>
>>14906494
I already have a bank account, I use a credit union, and I live in Canada so a lot of stuff doesn't ship here.

Next time I'll get advice from someone who isn't a yankee twat
>>
>>14906479
If you get a visa or mastercard CREDIT card, can't you then just buy through aliexpress? I don't understand why you're so fixated on paypal

How about next time you stop acting like a little whiny cunt? Shut the fuck up if you don't want advice, you ungrateful little shit.
>>
>>14906495
Using a credit card or paypal to order things online or setting up a paypal account are no different in Canada than it is in the US.

Learn it anon, things are quickly going wireless nowadays as the primary payment option. That and banks and online shops make it really easy to set up accounts and pay your bills.

Yep, Gold Four just came out recently too

I wanna make a blaxploitation Gundam but don't have many ideas.

I'm thinking the Bearguy's head for the afro with a normal Gundam head modded in and some kind of Dom's legs for the bellbottom pants look. Any suggestions?

Behold, the Man Rodi is ASSEMBLED. I didnt have a stand on hand for posing so jury rigged one out of some loose backpack parts and a pair of pliers for the time being.

I'm just gonna leave it like this until my other 2 kits I need for my custom Rodi project reach me. Once the parts I need are here I'll break it back down for sanding/painting and post the final build

If anyone is considering buying one of these for themself I'd be happy to answer any specific questions about the kit for you

Don't forget bling everywhere. And you need GN Archers, FAGs and Gundam Portents as honeys.
