***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== ACE PILOT GROUP BUILD ==

Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

Prizes include:
>1st Place: Any HG kit under $25 + an Action Base 2
>2nd Place: Any HG kit under $15
>3rd Place: An Action Base 2
(Note: Shipping is to USA and Canada only)

Group build ends on October 31st, lets gunpla!

Why. I just can't even begin to understand WHY you would need that, when the whole point of the line is to make figures that wouldn't be feasible for MG release, yet you want an RE of a suit with a MG.

I think it's possible they wouldn't sell enough to justify the time/tech investment required for an MG

IBO 1/100 HGs does that seem promising to you
>>
>>14819131
I haven't bought any of that yet

depends on the vidar's color scheme, it'll be my first
>>
>>14819139

I'm just saying the 1/144 IBO stuff is selling like crazy, but they chose not to make the 1/100 line MGs because either the cost was too high, or the projected sales would be too low. The recent releases have shown that it has to be a suit that will sell significant numbers.
>>
>>14819131

The IBO 1/100s are really nice. If they came with decals they'd basically be RE/100s but cheaper.

When samueldecal gets his hands on the November issue of that one hobby mag that comes with IBO decals and starts running them off it'll be incredible.
>>
>>14819156

thats the thing, they've backed themselves into a corner with shit like the ver ka kits where they keep upping the standard of what an MG is. So an MG of some random grunt suit is either going to get poor reviews if it is too simple or be too expensive to develop compared to the sales. So either they're going to expand just 1/100 lines or we're stuck with very popular suits only for MGs.
>>
>gunpla thread
>84 posts
>2 posts with pics of their gunpla

>>
>>14819176

Yeah I fear that's where we're headed, where 1/100s are basically going to be 70 dollar gimmick-loaded MGs and RE/100s(or things similar to that quality) and there's not going to be much in between. It's sad because I feel like just a few years ago the MG line was really making strides.

Well, I'm almost finished with this, so I might as well post it now. Only thing I really need to finish are the fins on the arm (Which I've tried to do like 3 times now. Masking the gold parts is a bitch when you're just eyeing it. if this next attempt doesn't go alright I'll just strip it and go all-red for them) and the Tryon Sword (Gotta detail paint the silver/gold bits on, it's all blue at the moment)

Saving up for that spraybooth.
>>
>>14819220
The HG V2 is fine, although you'll probably need to paint some stuff like the shield and extra parts, but it's okay all around save for the back cannons

The MG V2 really needs work I think. You can't really do any poses with it in MS mode(The legs won't give you many options, , it's kind of frail/fragile(the joints are like C's you clip in at some places, and some parts just gets stressed it seems), they seem to loosen up a bit, can't hold it's weapons very well(The hands are pretty shitty, although the beam saber doesn't weigh much so it's not too difficult to make it sit, the beam rifle however refuses to stay on, you need sticky tack or something), and stuff will probably fall off(most notably the arms, wings and side flaps on the feet).

It looks really nice though, with panel lining and some decals, it also has a nice effect part for the shield, an extra core fighter(if you want to display it seperatively with each pack), nice gimmicks too, and it isn't too expensive I think. Maybe I managed to hamhand it too much like a retard, but that's my issues with it
>>

>>14819191
There are less MGs because there are a shit ton of 1/100s from the IBO line. AGE, G-Reco, Origin, and BF/T had no 1/100 line, instead some of the suits were released as MGs, and even then G-Reco and BFT didn't get any MGs from the main suits, only the Red Warrior and only because the suit is basically a two-for-one since it's a direct reference/recreation of the Red Warrior Perfect Gundam III.

You guys are being dumb, with IBO Bandai is in full overdrive with kits.
>>
>>14819436
Zeta, ZZ, or Destiny if everything goes correctly. There is still room for 0079 wanking though, so we might get like a Revive Guntank or if they are feeling really ballsy, a Revive Zaku II, even though The Origin Zaku II is perfectly fine.

Do NOT pay fifty dollars for the MG Kampfer (I'm assuming America bucks here). It's a good kit for its age, but you should either get something else or wait for the price to drop.

NO clue about any of the others there.

>>

I'm currently using my hobby knife for nubs because my files have rusted.
>>
>>14819234
Same. I've got a few kits completely denubbed, plus putty and cement, a cheap airbrush, thinner, a facemask+goggles, tamiya and decanted primer all ready to paint. But IRL shit keeps getting in the way, so the only thing I've been able to do so far is practice priming.

When I actually manage to paint these suckers I'll post em. But until then they look like the garbage Snapshit peddles, sans horrific nubs. No way I'm posting that. I still appreciate seeing everyone else's work though, and it inspires me to find a time when I'm not exhausted to practice more.

>>
>>14819486
even if bandai does make it based on that poll it'll be 2-3 years before it's released. Assuming there isn't a proto type shelved
>>
>>14819111
The MG line used to have monthly releases from various series. Everything i more expensive now, so having a "flop" kit would be exceptionally damaging in the present. That's why we got the RG line and now the RE/100 line.

Re-do already tested suits whose popularity is known and confirmed to sell, make kits fans want of niche designs in RE/100, which all leads to less need for more than a few MGs a year.

Not only that but the high quality of HGs now als probably contributes to some people not feeling the need to drop more money on a bigger kit when the HG is good enough. HGs aren't the same mediocre oddly proportioned, poorly articulated chumps they were in the height of the MG lines popularity. I remember reading that bandai looks to see if there's a gimmick they can make in MG that can't be done in HG form as deciding factor in whether or not to make a MG of a suit, again present day HGs usually do a good job of reproducing all gimmicks.

ALSO now with P-Bandai MSV suits and recolors can be sold directly to the people that would actually buy them, rather than releasing an obscure MSV no one really cares about as a regular release.

Well all have that one suit we'd love a MG of but no one else does (Byarlant for me), and most of the suits that are highly popular have been mad already.

Bandai pls give MG AGE-3 and AGE-FX thx

IMO it looks ok, but it is a woefully antiquated kit, and takes a lot of work to look good. The engineering on it is also a mess too. Tons of flash, finicky transformation, and oh lord it barely has any articulation at all. It's a giant brick.

>>am really bad at panel lining
>>lack the proper equipment to really make my gunpla stand out
Doing your own panel washes to make your panel lines pop doesn't take a lot of equipment or money. Literally just get some lighter fluid, some small cheap bottles of enamel paint of your choosing, a fine-tip brush, and some cotton swabs/q-tips for cleaning up and you're good. Even if you're "bad" at panel lining, the capillary action will help you get pretty damned good lines here.
>>
>>14820801
I've heard from multiple sources that using tamiya accent color or that method will weaken the plastic and make it brittle if you don't at least gloss coat it first.

Naturally I want to pick a mech that is very aesthetically pleasing, so I'm thinking of an RG. Does the RG 00 Raiser have any fuckery with it? What about the RG Mk. II? If so, how much?

RGs are really only fragile if you try to play around with them, as they're meant to pick a pose and keep it. Zeta is the worst offender in this, and it can't transform for shit.

That being said, the MkII is one of the most sturdy RGs out there, so while it may not be the most flashy, it may be the least aggravating when reposing.

Pretty much all of the Revive kits. The Guncannon's a pretty interesting case; the original was the very first HG released, but had some engineering ahead of its time (double-jointed knees allowing for ~180 degree bends). The Revive Guncannon improves the arm, elbow, leg, etc. articulation, gives it much better parts separation and detail (so you get a clear visor and main camera and foot thruster details), and, if I recall correctly, comes in a smaller box than the original to boot.

The parts separation on it is pretty poor, most of the yellow verniers aren't molded in yellow. If you get the high grade, you better have paint on hand. I'd honestly recommend the MG over it if you can get the MG for less than 40 dollars.

After priming on Saturdya, I decided to start painting.

I used the Gundam white color spray. How many coats should I have? I only did one so far and there's no discernable difference, top being painted, bottom being primed.

I already finished the can, so I don't think I was spraying too lightly.

I was spraying about 10 inches away, humidity around 20%.

It's kinda kindy too, 10 mph where I am, but I was able to aim the paint onto the parts.

Am I a retard who sprayed too far away? Or was it the wind?

(The brown is the panel lining from when I built the kit, I thought it would "shade" the kit when I prime it but now I realize it looks retarded)

there's a reason you never see people talking about dremels

>>
>>14824529
Dremels are handy when you really need to remove plastic really fast, and I used one on a new GBA shell to allow for the SP screen mod to fit, and it worked pretty well. They're also handy when you need equal sanding of cylindrical parts, like Zaku power pipes.

Also on that subject GBASP gen 2 screens are dogshit, backlights be damned. A shitty refresh rate means complete unplayability, even if the image looks more vibrant.

>>14824797
That's because Kshatriya has the yuge funnel binders. 40 is about the average for MG's, but it all depends on the amount of plastic you're buying. For example, the MG F91 commonly sells near 30 dollars, while shit like Ver. Ka MG's can end up pushing 100. I got my Kampfer for 38, btw and felt I got my money's worth.

Oh shit ReZEL

Can I have a Jegan hold onto the handles on the back of its alt-mode? Or are those tailored to the Unicorn?

Also, is the ReZEL a good kit?
>>
>>14825832
Well, there's some old 1/100, I have a V1, Hexa(essentially the V1 with just some added parts)and Gun Blastor(Just a Gun-EZ with the backpack that makes it a Gun Blastor).
As as for 1/144, there's quite a few, of the grunts too, even. I have the V2, Gun-EZ and Javelin, but I'm not really able to put into words about them though, sorry.
>>
>>14825832
There's a few different old 1/100s and 1/144s, but not all that much, and they're sort of rare nowadays. Bandai really doesn't like late UC.
>>
Alright /m/, I must once more ask for your guidance

Two (2) HGUC Cold District GMs

OR

One (1) HGUC zeta Marasai
>>
>>14825981
Zeta marasai.
Gm cold district isn't all that great.
>>
>>14825981

I assume the Cold Districts GMs are getting the snot kicked out of them by Hygoggs right?

Not like there's any other reason to get them
>>
>>14825989
Does it have any glaring flaws that make it worse than the Command? All I'm aware of is the shite weapons

>>14825999
I actually think they're kind of cool.
>>
>>14825676
are you ok anon?
>>
>>14826010
I actually haven't had much problems with the gun. My cold district is actually holding it with both hands.
My problem with it is grey on grey on grey just doesn't look good and it has some balqncing issues.
>>
>>14825842
HG ReZEL is pretty good, only complaint is that it's shoulders are a bit weird and limit the range of motion.

BUT, there's no handle on the HG ReZEL and even if the MG has handles, there's no 1/100 Jegan ;_;

The standard ReZEL looks like it has them, but they look different to the handles the Commander type has, so they might not be handles.

But would I really pay 8 more dollars for the Commander type just to have my Jegan ride on it? Maybe.
>>
>>14826084
Looks like you're right. If you check the manuals, it looks like both the regular and commander type have handles. I was basing my assumption on the type c, which is the only ReZEL own, which doesn't have handles

Yeah I was just checking the manual myself, you can see the handle on the standard type on the last panel here.

Really disapointed the Type-C doesn't have them though, I really like its look.

Still though:

It's not fair

Any HG can hold onto the regular ReZEL's backpack.

inb4 >nubs

I bought it from Mandarake already built for kitbash purposes.

>GM Sniper II MG
Oh shit, odds of a Lido Wolf MG from P-Bandai?

Shit.
Ghost Jegan M or Ghost Jegan F?

Pretty high.

What are some kits that show a lot of inner frame like the barbatos, but without being the barbatos?
>>
>>14826493
All the other IBO kits.
>>
>>14826508
Right, I'm just hoping to find some besides those.
>>
>>14826509
Regardless of how you feel about the show IBO has some sweet designs.
>>
>>14826517
Oh, I like them a lot, I just found that the showing inner frame is a big part of what I like about them so I'm trying to find more so I have more choice.
>>
>>14826509
Unicorn [Destroy]. Psycoframe counts as inner frame, right?
>>
>>14826524
Not really what I'm looking for, but I guess it does.
>>
>>14826526
What about the Turn A and Turn X?
>>
>>14826526
Hyaku Shiki kind of. At least in the legs.
>>
>>14826519
The Astrays all have visible frames.
>>
>>14826526
The Jagd Doga has a partial one, I think.
>>

How about non-Gundam kits?
>>
>>14826528
Turn X is definitely a kit I've been planning on getting

Never thought of that one, thanks.

How about battle damage exposing the inner bits? Because Exia Ignition Mode would fit the bill.
>>
>>14826556
Pretty decent, but the obvious bits for putting armor on kind of ruin the leg, but removing them would probably leave it looking too flat and empty.

If you can put time into it the GoGo Kampfer is miles better than the MG.

What's your favorite type of decal? Waterslides are my personal choice.

Waterslides. Look better than stickers and are more forgiving than dry transfers.
