***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

I'm really thrilled this kit is coming out. I was frustrated that we got HGUCs of the gundam type and the Ez8 but nothing of the GM.

Sniper type is probably a p-bandai

Transient Glacier is pretty cool looking, to be honest.

I'll get it, along with Shia's Quanta.

According to Zakuaurelius or however you spell it, the plastic is like the rigid, brittle plastic used in hard clear parts. That probably means the fit isn't as tight because having a tight fit could mean the plastic will break easily. This ultra glossy plastic was obviously a terrible mistake.
>>
>>14608376

It's an RG. It's always the same story with RGs. Look amazing, but you're supposed to pose it once and leave it.

Don't know if it belongs here, but I have this idea
> 3d scan each individual non-moving part of kit
> oversize them from e.g 1/144 scale to 1/100
> go to 3d print centre(they have better printers than I'll afford to buy in my whole life)
> paint and build a kit
Is it possible? Has anyone tried it before?
>>
>>14608420
The best 3d scanners are still shit
The best 3d printers are still shit

It won't look anything like an injection molded part
>>
Is decal set necessary for waterslides?
>>
>>14608410
>you're supposed to pose it once and leave it

no body else does this to their other kits? I do it to HGs to MGs because I don't want to find out the poly cap joints brittled out after years of being ignored
>>
>>14608430
Maybe paint+treatment can get it looking halfway decent?
>>
>>14608478
If you print it in ABS with really fine layer heights and sand it you can get a decent finish. Or you can finish it with an ABS slurry made from ABS and acetone mixed together. Good DLP printers can achieve near injection molded quality but it's photosensitive resin and the build volume is pretty small, so I doubt you could make 1/100 parts with it.

It'll make a small difference depending on how good the finish is from the print. If you're just sanding the steps then it will probably look okay.

Jesus Christ I hate this kit. They might as well call it HGUC Snapped Hips.
>>
>>14608410
But the Gundam MK II is fantastic, I repose mine all the time, and I've heard similar things of the Strike.
Hell I repose my RG Char's Zaku II fairly often and have had no problems.
I seriously think people having trouble with those kits are just being really rough with them.
>>
>>14608529
Can anyone explain what the fuck that name means?
>>
>>14608529
The amount of panel lining this guy needs to look good reminds me of the 90s Wing kits.
>>
>>14608561
The RG Zaku II is pretty sturdy, the only parts I've had come lose are the front skirts during more extreme poses. I'm more annoyed by the fact that the bazooka handle is fixed, feels like it hampers posing quite a bit.

Anyway, I just finished these two kits.
I liked the designs of both of them, I just wish the Guncannon dude was 1/100.
The Gm looks awesome.
I'm going to weather them both soon.

Between these, the only ones I try not to touch are the Zetas, the rest are all pretty solid. Sure, some lose skirt armor might fall off, but that's not abnormal for balljoints at that scale, and excess trim pieces should probably be glued on in the first place. Not the skirts themselves, but any small pieces you layer on.

Say I want to replicate the glossy red of the RG on the MG and only have access to handpainting and spraycans, no airbrush. What's the best way to go about it?

Right now I am thinking:
>cover existing red with a (semigloss) clear coat
>Tamiya bright red spray can
>decals, panel lines, touchups, etc
>final (semigloss) coat

How off am I?
>>
>>14608682
Looks painted. This might be a painted grey prototype, so it doesnt have clear parts.
>>
>>14608825
semi gloss will leave it looking like plastic again.

go for straight gloss and you probably don't have to repaint it red unless you want it a different shade of red.

>>
>>14608993

They're not waterslides, they're normal stickers. HGs don't come with waterslides. It's almost always stickers except some old kits like the Qubeley which have dry transfers.

Also, Grimgerde if you want a simple build or the RG if you want a longer enjoyable one.

Sticker sheets have a plastic sheet on the paper itself, with the stickers cut out on it that you can take off without any sort of special stuff
Water slides doesn't have a sheet on the paper, and if you hold it so that light reflects off of it, you'll see the water slides on their own on it.
Dry transfers are a sheet of clear plastic kinda stuff with a white wax paper on the back to make sure they don't get fucked up before use, too hard.
Just gotta look and be careful if you're really unsure.

Can someone give me some tips on cutting pieces off the runner? I just built the revive RX-78 and somehow cut one of the inner arm pieces too short so if I try to pose that arm it just falls off. How far away from the runner should I be cutting? Also, how do I get rid of nubs effectively? I've tried using sandpaper but it doesn't really seem to have much effect aside from scratching the surrounding plastic, regardless of grit. Lastly, what would be another good HG to practice with before moving on to suits I care about and would like to build well?

Yes. They were designed to be appealing in the show, not to be made to work into a toy.

>>
>>14609938
If you mean the G-Self in particular and not the show then they have a stupid amount of stickers but aside from that they aren't actually that bad.
The articulation is alright but if your getting the Perfect Pack you better get an action base along with it since it's ridiculously back-heavy.
Over all they're about as serviceable as a slightly older kit like the HG God Gundam. More stickers but slightly better articulation, especially with the Perfect Pack.

On a serious note though, I was hoping someone might know something about if there are things like full spectrum rgb gunpla (or just any type of model) bases around? Or if not will I have to learn how to use that arduino pro thing?

I'm asking because I recently made some computer upgrades so now my mouse, keyboard, waterblock and fans are all going to be customizable rgb, and I just realized all my action bases are clear plastic so I figured its a perfect opportunity.

Don't know about everyone else, but bootlegs are fine as long as they bring something original to the party that Bandai has denied us. Buying a Chinese bootleg that just tries to copy the Bandai kit is boring, with third party sellers and shipping it will cost just about the same anyways and Bandai doesn't get the money to develop more kits. Dragon Momoko's Seed kits have been pretty good in this respect, downsizing the PG Strike's aesthetics to Bandais 1/100 frame and releasing a 1/100 skygrasper. ZakuAurelius has a comparison vid of a MG buster and a bootleg buster. The bootleg is just pointless for Westerners.

It's really nice to see someone who's starting out be able to take constructive criticism without sperging out; you are a welcome addition to the community anon.

I think you should buy a few of the smaller action bases, They are relatively cheap and allow for a lot more options for gunpla posing. If you do decide to go that route, a helpful tip is to not over tighten the screws when you build them. I mean, you want them tight enough so that they stay in place, especially when your gunpla is attached, but not so much so that moving it around is a struggle. I personally made that mistake with a few of my action bases in the earlier times of my gunpla building and suffice to say, that those particular stands have all snapped and broke in one way or another. Although, if this does still happen to you on accident, sometimes you can be lucky and have the break be somewhere that you can glue it back together without having it's adjustable parts movement restricted.

pic related is the type of action base I am referring to. They come in a few different colors so you can match them up to whatever color your gunpla is if you like. The main colors they have, black and grey, go with pretty much everything though. Also if you end up getting any large HGs, RE/100, and/or MGs in the future, the larger action bases are optimal for those kits.
