***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Finshed my HGUC Jesta Cannon. Fun build.

And you have an 11 kit backlog. Is that the power of plastic crack?
>>14613752
There was an anon about a week back who had a 30 kit backlog. The plastic dust gets in your head, man.
>>14613752
The primary reason why it's so big is because I rarely have time to build, and it seems like half the time I do I'm waiting on supplies.

no shit, why do you think I said "in the manga" as opposed to simply saying "that's a normal zaku machine gun"?
>>14613734
It isn't used as a dinner table. It was too big to fit in my kitchen after moving, so now it's in my basement for when I have people over. Pretty much the only place where I can lay out all my plates for a week of building without being in anyone's way.

Also, that's pretty cool.
>>14613758
Different guy.
Same problem. You think you have all the time in the world, but in reality, you don't.
>>14613864
>>14613851
What happened to the gun on the amrs?
Why aren't they in the kit?
Why is it so fucking hard to find some interesting YouTube channel about model building? Most of them are just reviews of kits or shilling for products and brands without any interesting info or tips.
>>14614128
becuase it's a different zaku
>>14614138
The Zaku II model doesn't have it anyway.
Every review I see for a MG Unicorn mentions how annoying they are to transform (parts bumping or popping off, delicate panels, etc). Is there any Unicorn that won't feel like a hand grenade, or do I just suck it up, put it into Destroy Mode, and never transform it back?
Why does Bandai hate the gelgoog?
>>14614156
Because why have variety when you can pump out a million different zakus, give them different paint jobs, and sell them as unique kits? They know they'll still make money because everyone busts a nut for a zaku.
Snap requested that I build this. Just finished knocking it out at 3am. I have to say although I;m not the biggest Gyan fan, its a nice kit. I dig the revive stuff coming out.
>>14614136
what kind of stuff do you consider interesting. I'm working on a comeback for my channel and have, in my opinion, some pretty interesting video ideas
It's SEED shit
It has muh wings
It has muh angel motif
It's not a brand new mold
It probably look twenty seconds to shit out the idea on paper
The pilot is probably impossible to like
The faction it belongs to is probably fucking retarded
but DAMN if this thing isn't sexy as anything I've ever seen. I love it.
>>14614240
Doesn't she pilot in the nude?
>>14614250
Okay so I like the concept of the pilot but that doesn't mean much in the end. The kit itself though? Astonishing. In all honesty I prefer RDs and stuff if it's not HG because I like the simple customization aspect before all else. If I want something to look damn nice on my shelf (as I would for this) I'd love a toy, not a kit.
>the alternate head
I came a little
>>14614256
The Destiny R Regene came with the alternate head, just molded in purple. In fact the whole Regene was molded in purple.
And those are fair points you make about a RD vs HG, though this is an MG.
>>14614240
I love it as well. The impulse looks great in white and that backpack is a great variation of the Destiny's. The bird fighter is also really well done, a much better backpack fighter than most of the ones I've seen. It looks more natural than, say, the Hi-Nu vrabe's.
>>14614259
Cool, I love this head. It reminds me of Hexa, easily my favorite Gundam design.
I know it's an MG, I'm just saying I almost wish it were a RD because I prefer not to build already-customized and good-looking designs. I want it on my shelf ASAP, wheras I enjoy the short length of an HG build which I can then customize and make look good without breaking the bank.
>>14614256
>Preferring RDs
Go away then, this is for Gunpla, not figures.
>>14614273
More specifically he should go to /toy/. But perhaps it might be better to improve his model-building skills so he can perfectly reproduce his mental image of the thing. It's why I impulse buy so much; everything I make is practice for the kits that I really like.
>>14614290
Uh, sure.
/toy/ is a good place too.Honestly though, I would buy that Impulse, but it sucks that it's only a MG.
>>14614290
Well I would rather have an MG Zaku II so I can kind of alter it towards my own preferences. Even stuff as simple as panel line color matters, although the most I've done is simple putty work and prime/paint. But for this? I'd dig a RD.
>>14614301
An HG wouldn't do it justice. I think it needs to be an MG.
>>14614306
I suppose so.
Just got this in the mail today.
I really like the design of this one, but I wish it had been 1/100.
I only recently got into Gunpla so I had to track it down on eBay.
>>14613981
>>14613693
>tfw all I ever really wanted to do was build gunpla with my dad since he was the one who got me into modelling in the first place but he doesn't love me anymore because he has a new family now
>>14613922
I'll look forward to new stuff once we just get this one thing. This ONE thing, is that so much to ask for? A better GM? Everyone who isn't shit loves GM.
>>14614136

>>14614250

They're running a summer sale on their co.jp domain that will go until the 19th, so that might be when.

Has there ever been a tabletop game that used Gunpla? Seems like it would be a lot cheaper than Warhammer.
>>14615075
You could just play Warhammer and give one of your gunpla the same stats as one of those hundred dollar ForgeWorld epic hero statues or whatever. But I'm sure some rulesfags would say it's not allowed.
>>14614894
Believe me. I've painted tinier ones. Like the anon said. It's patience
>>14615075
Apparently there's a homebrew for Gundam Tabletop Roleplaying, but I've never heard of it nor played it.
>>14615062
That's really cool.
>>14615098
Are.. are those the ridiculously tiny Real Grade figures?
I really wanted to paint those since all my kits are 1/144 and it'd look good with them, but it just seems impossible, at least for me.
Fuck, my shaky hands are terrible for hand painting too. Just thinking about trying to paint one of those makes me want to give up on life.
>>14615075
I'd be so hype if there was one, since I've got too much gunpla and all they do is sit there and collect dust.
>>14615082
>But I'm sure some rulesfags would say it's not allowed
It's actually allowed in the rules. It's called "counts as"
It's supposedly to allow your poorer friends to play too. Or someone who has one army but wants to use the ruleset from another, he can just "counts as" his entire army. There's no limit you can "counts as."
Want to field a Leman Russ don't don't have any Leman Russes? Just plop down a box for a deckard of cards and say it "counts as" a Leman Russ.
Dark Elder finally got a new rulebook but you're still using a Sisters of Battle army? Just say your army "counts as" a Dark Elder army.
>>14615108
I did badly at first as well. What i did is buy or beg the pilot figures from friends and started to practice on them till i get the hang of it
>>14615075
I remember a guy who used Gunpla to play Mobile Frame Zero (Lego mech tabletop with very loose/customizable rules considering you can use any lego design as minis) with a few modifications to fit the scale (MFZ minis are like 1-2 inches tall, compared to the 5-7 inch tall HGs)
Anyone get an update on that 10 dollar Amazon credit bullshit?
Putting together my first RG today. Hopefully it turns out well.

There are good mecha designs that look good as models, and then there are garbage mecha designs that downright just look like kiddy toys you'd get in a McDonalds happy meal.
The Grimgerde is fly though.
>>14615516
I hope they'll use the mold to make the MSV Guncannons like the Guncannon II

I want to make a DEUS VULT custom, but the original colors are perfect
>>14615501
The Graze suits look like something out of Frame Arms.
>>14615586
Is it actually panel lining hell, or is that just extreme detail?
>>14615590
Use washes and it'll be fine.
i gotta say for an old kit this thing feels solid as hell and is coming out way cooler than i was expecting so far. i was a bit worried after i built the MG gouf custom the other day

they are dated now though
bandai should release a mg origin zaku
So, all I have left to build is weapons. If I'm wanting to panel line and apply its waterslides, do I first give it a clear gloss coat, then apply? Then after that is said and done, I finish up with a matte top coat, right?

They're from 2008 or some shit and look perfectly fine. They might not have over 9000 decals and surface detail, but it's a Zaku II, it's not supposed to.
The point is it's a modern MG for 35 dollars shipped on Amazon. It's a great introductory kit to the MG line.
>>14615760

Since i'm autistic as fuck, I need a contrasting figure to go with whatever I just built. E.g. When I got the GFT rx-78-2 I also got char's red zaku. What's a good set to go with my 2.0 mg zeta?

>>14615851
If you strictly want a 1/100, the recently released MG 2.0 for the Hyaku-Shiki. The other 2 each only have a single kit in Master Grade, though the Qubeley does come in three colors.
>>14615914
Yeah i just did some checking for the o and it's £200ish everywhere for a 1/100 scale which is disappointing. Qubeley shouldn't be hard as I know it has millions of reprints. What does the 2.0 hyaku shiki usually retail at
>>14615942
It seems to usually be around $60, so around £46, I guess.

>>14616019
If it's the HGAC Wing Gundam, that's a simple, fun build, and the finished kit looks great with panel lining and is real nice and solid.
If it's not the HGAC you're fucked.
>>14616068
You can order some generic Federation waterslide decals and slap 'em on. Or panel line.
Either will look good.
>>14616068
Panel line, sanding nubs, seam wielding once you're confident enough, read the guide it's there for a reason.
Welcome to the hobby, you're here forever.
>>14616071
Yeah its hgac
I don't have any panel lining stuff yet tho
>>14616068
Panel lining is the bare minimum for making a kit look good. Top coating is the next step, and then there's waterslides.
this is one fucking huge shield

>>14616093
If you can't get them in a hobby shop near you, you can get them off amiami for cheap. Just look for the markers GM01, GM02 and GM03 (alternatively for panel washes get the GM301P, GM302P, GM303P or just look up a guide to make your own).
You should also get an Action Base 2 while you're at it -- it'll let you pose your kits a lot more dynamically, especially the winged ones. Also on amiami, but you might find them for cheaper in other sites.
>>14616184
jesus christ at least clean those nubs
>>14616189
You should feel proud in general
That paintjob for a first timer is pretty sick dude, good work
>>14616184
Can you pose it as if it were taking defense behind its shield?
>>14616189
Your paint job looks better than the original, so yeah.
>>14616198
I really doubt it, as the shield not only brings down the arm, but makes the model tilt to the left all the way since the waist
at best, I think it could be possible to bring the arm forward and make the shield rotate a little as if facing to the front, but would still look awkward
I guess it will be barely able to lift the rifle too
>>14616197
>>14616198
Thanks, I really appreciate it.

This is why I'm into gunpla
My GMs won't judge my dick size

>>14617009
>New release after all these years
>Announced when I'm having trouble finding a job
>Probably won't be able to afford enough of them until after they're all sold out
That's cool....
I guess this gives me more motivation to do better at getting a damn job at least
Alright. Just got back from Otakon. Anyone want to see the GBWC entries? They were actually pretty good this year.
>>14617019there are bootlegs on ebay . machine nest
>>14617019
Anon stop being such a lazy fucking millennial.
It's easy to get a job if you try. All you have to do is go down to the local manager and ask to see his eye. Look him in the hand, shake his job, and tell him you want a factory.
>>14617033
I've seen those before, I was never really sure about getting them though since I've heard plenty of horror stories about chinese bootlegs. Do you know anything about the quality of their chain bases?
>>14617037
Wow anon, that's the best advice anyone has given me, thanks.
>>14617046
plastic quality is a little worse than the originals but since its not articulated it doesn't matter
SYD GIVES RG SINANJU 92.9%
GET FUCKED NAYSAYERS!!
http://www.gaijin-gunpla.com/2016/08/rg-sinanju-review-92-9/
>>14617052
Yeah I can deal with broken or badly fitting parts since I can just glue/cement it, I just hope it's not too disfigured or anything. I remember when some guy on youtube kept reviewing chinese knockoff kits for some reason and they all look like those shitty toys you'd see at a dollar store, I've been afraid that that's the kind of quality I'd be paying for.
I bought some knock off weapon sets before too, they were coated in some disgusting greasy substance that took forever to wash off my fingers, and even longer to wash off the plastic. Probably some kind of liquid for of cancer, knowing how chinese bootlegs are. Anyone ever deal with that? What is that shit?
But I guess it's still an option though, if I was desperate enough.
>>14617059
Was the reason the arms fell off for that one guy actually because of fat hands or being built poorly?
>>14617077
You could buy one to try it out.
>>14617059
Who?
>>14617059
and he gave the mg deltaplus a low score because he's too retarded to figure out how to make the ankles and legs work.
he's pretty fucking clueless
>>14617059
You don't know the company any loyalty you know. You can say the kits are shit without any kind of repercussion.
>>14617059
I would like to believe the RG Sinanjew is a rock solid tank of a kit on par with the MkII.
But look at that review. It's all about how the shit looks, and when he talks about the articulation he says it's fairly limited and the shoulders fall off but still gives it an 8/10. Is this IGN?
I'm going to hold off until some more reviews come out.
>>14617110
He spends a whole section wanking over the design and how great the Sinanju MS is. He's pretty clearly biased here.
>>14617110
no shit articulation is limited a little. look at the shoulders and the thick legs and booster pack.
shoulders falling off isn't a big deal, you can mod that if you're not a shitter.
Are there any RGs as solid as the MK II? I've been looking at the Raiser and the Exia, and just recently built the Freedom Gundam, and that is crazy fragile.
>>14617110
He is just a shill, the guy has no legitimacy.
>>14617030

>>14617030

>>14617151
>>14617186
Okay, first up is the winner. It was Clem from Those Gundam Guys. He flew across the entire US and entered. It is a very well done model though.
>>14617218
Best large scale. It's supposed to be a Mg version of the old SD crossbone design.
>>14617059
Syd is a fucking Sinanju fanboy. It could be the worst kit ever and still get at least an 85.
>>14617233
Best small scale. I love the base he made for it.
>>14617239
My entry. I ran out of time for the project I had been working on and instead spent the last two nights just touching up an older entry and painting a mobile worker to go with it. Thank god for quick drying lacquers.
>>14617239
>that awfully painted mega size zaku in the back
>>14617218
Do you have a picture of the diorama next to it? Looks cool.
>>14617244
Oh, you're that orange Graze guy. I like it, it's so simple and clean.
What was the thing you were working on?
>>14617246
Yeah, I'll post that next.
This was the only outright bad entry in my opinion. The horn also apparently broke off in transport or something.
>>14617252
yeesh.

>>14617218
>That Sazabi hand just laying there

>>14617252
What was this guy even trying to go for?
>>14617252
>>14617248
Here you go.
>>14617251
Thanks. It was a large project that would have involved a 1/100 graze custom, a couple of HO scale buildings, several pilot figures painted up like tekkadan members, and a scratchbuilt MW truck. I got about 75% done when I realized that I had less than a week left and gave up.
>>14616031
Just got it all put together lads I haven't done any detailing yet as I need some more supplies but I'm very happy with it regardless especially with the stickers
>>14617263
fuck thats cool
>>14617263
Are you gonna get around to finishing it even if it's not for the competition? That sounds pretty cool.
>>14617263
Goddamn dioramas are always so fucking amazing, but it really takes a special kind of autism that I just dont have to do it.
>>14617263
The other "Bad" entry, although it's still better than the zaku. This guy just fell into the "Smudges=weathering" trap.
>>14617263
The diroama looks better than the actual gunpla themselves
>>14617273
>>14617272
>>14617274
>>14617268
Pretty much everything in the diorama looks to be from model scenics or scene-o-rama. They have a ton of easy to use stuff and tutorial videos on youtube on all of it if you-re interested in making your own stuff (Including the water).
>>14617270
Eventually, I'm a little burned out on it at the moment. I'll definitely finish the MW truck though.

>>14617302
Of course. That's why we have the same Chinese guy win the NA nationals and represent us at the finals the past several years.

>>14617368
>carefully developed
Wait what? What is there to develop or consult with builders?
Seems like a pretty obvious choice of tools for a set.
>>14617387
I find it hilarious how everyone brings up those three but always forget Mirai who was supposedly the sexy girl character of the show.
Does anyone here actually like weathering/battle damage?
>>14617284
That one is pretty good in my opinion, especially compared to the competition.
>>14617398
>Put toolbox of basic starter tools next to model kits.
>Say you specially made it just for them.
>People buying gunpla buy one thinking it will make them better.
>People who have been interested in trying gunpla but don't know where to start buy it and a first gunpla.
>Profit.
I'm even half considering getting one just because my own nippers are getting a bit dull now and I'd love to have a carrying case for a basic set of tools for when I travel. I'll have to look up how decent Mr. Hobby nippers are.
>>14614136
this guy is pretty decent, though he updates very seldom.

>>14617368
>unique demographic
lol for the shitters.
Babbys first gunplanot bad but a little high. It would probably sell like hotcakes for 20
>>14617408
It looks good when it's subtle and not slathered all over the model and in your face.
>>14617408
not smears of brown or black on every facet of the kit
>>14617420
Considering it comes with a nice case and if those nippers are decent it might actually be a good price. At least they didn't fill it with useless screwdrivers and add an extra $10 to the price.
>>14617408
It's pretty much needed on the Zaku White Ogre.
Speaking of, I have one. What's the best way to weather this fucker? I bought one of the Tamiya sets, mud/sand, but haven't got around to building him, let alone painting it.
>>14617424
true but really it would be a no brainer impulse buy at 20 even if you were just barely interested in gunpla but impressed by what you saw at the con. for 40 bucks you could walk out with a kit and everything you need to get started. ez money
>>14617425
You could hit it with a small tool in places where it is most likely to receive combat damage.
That way it would look more natural.
>>14617425
Look up "model kit chipping" on youtube and pick up either a tiny brush or sponge, and either black grey or black brown paint. The sponge method is easier for beginners to get realistic looking chips with, but it results in much heavier looking chipping and is really easy to go overboard with.
>>14617420
god you're an idiot
>>14617423
That one looks like someone took a shit on it and let it dry.
>>14617425
>be me
>bought that exact kit thinking it would look like that OOB
>thought it would come wiht battle damage stickers to apply
>nope it's just white.
>put it at the bottom of my closet.
>>14617408
>weathering
Yes.
>battle damage
Only if it's part of a diorama.
> be 14, and your plamo friend is 15
>Learn everything I know from my bruh
>I assemple decent gunpla from time to time
>years pass, now bruh is having a kid.
>bruh gave all his gunpla/plamo kit because he grew up
>Kit is full of tamiya paint
What now /g/unpla fags?
Do I throw away all the tamiya paint?
>>14617433
all of those tools are gonna need to be upgraded when you reach intermediate skill level
>>14617453
either throw it away or buy an airbrush
>>14617454
Most people who build gunpla in the US are just casual builders who never reach intermediate and stay snap-fitters for life. This tool set is basically made and marketed towards them and the people just getting into the hobby.
That said I feel bad for all those kits that are going to get file marks on them with no sandpaper to smooth it out.
>>14617459
anon here, I'm thinking about buying an airbrush, but I don't know if tamiya are good for airbrushing? I own a couple of mr.color but still a n00b.
>>14617461
Doesn't the tamiya set of tools choose files over sandpaper anyway?
>>14617470
Yes, files over sandpaper in most tamiya and mr hobby kits, although US anons aren't that stupid, most guides require that anons learn how to use sandpaper.
>>14617453
>your friend thinks "growing up" means you have to permanently give up the hobbies you once loved
why do people think this?
>>14617468
tamiya airbrushes well. hand painting not so well. if you thin it with mr color leveling thinner it goes on well.
>>14617484
I'm sure he didn't want to have the child, so he just lost all hope on having fun and figured he would never have time to build
>>14617484
>Have a kid.
>No time for stuff like that.
>Your workspace because Junior's crib space.
>All your money goes towards your kid now instead of your hobbies.
Kids are an enormous money/time sink, especially the first ten years. Even worse if you have kids while young and are only receiving the lower pay of a newer employee even with a decent job.
>>14617492
anon here, I got tamiya thinner with the new kit, will that do?
>>14617498
Kids do not sound worth it.
As someone with not a lot of cash for tools and such, I figured to pick up my second HG today and this time do my best to keep it from looking as nubby as the previous one. I think I did alright with the Gundam itself but I definitely botched it with the effects I feel. It's not as great as it could be if I had the proper stuff but I mostly wanted to share it for opinions on the HG itself. How is this thing in terms of flexibility? Did I pick up a good kit?
>>14617454
>tools need to be upgraded lol
care to elaborate? What does a "pro" knife look like? What about a file for "skilled" modelers?
>>14617597
diamond files presumably
>>14617617
>diamond files
last time i checked gundam models are made of plastic not case hardened steel
this is just ridiculous, no matter what your skill level you will still use a basic knife, file and set of decent cutters
>>14617617
The correct term you're looking for is "sandpaper". Files will only get you so far, no matter what kind of grit they have.
>>14615193
Yeah, I got it. It's for use in their mobile app.
>>14617639
It's a bit weird. You put it into the mobile app, then you redeem it on Amazon. Like it's just a code they give you in-app instead of an email like everyone else.
>>14617134
Exia is pretty damn solid and will hold well, same with the 00 Raised and the 00 Qan[T].
Other managable kits are the Destiny, Wing Zero, Wing EW, Char's Z'Gok, and the Aile Strike for how early in the line it is. No word on the Red Frame but I think all the reviews say good things about it.
These are all pretty good kits that won't just fall apart. So long as you aren't terrible at handling, they'll all be fun to pose and tinker with.
>>14617634
Files are used to safetly grind down excess flash, instead of using a knife to cut it off (a knife can easily cut into the part)
It doesn't replace sandpaper you noob
Why is everyone in this thread so amateur
>>14617284
that one's pretty baller, the stand is a nice touch too
>>14617649
Speak for yourself, every time I try to use a file to shave down nubs it always eats into the plastic surrounding it too and leaves it much rougher than if I had just cut it close with a knife and sanded the rest away. Any gouge marks I accidentally make get filled in with Mr. Surfacer anyway.
And this is assuming the hypothetical newbie modeler is only using that kit for their tools, which doesn't come with sandpaper.
Kek, Zaku didn't say if he recomended the Sinanju or not.
I'm planning on buying a lightbox and a camera to take nicer looking pictures my gunpla, because my phone camera very wonky. I'm a pleb when it comes to this sort of thing, what's a good 100-200 dollar camera that can give me good colors and resolution?
>>14616466
yes. I recently ordered an SD knight gundam kit. There's at least 5 different SD gundam kits to choose from on amazon alone.
>>14617368
thats a hundred times better than that box of junk Tamiya has been peddling for years.
>>14617698
I've had my Canon xti for like 5 years now, very solid starter dslr
>>14617698
With cameras, the lens is more important than the body.
An old canon with an above average lens can take great pictures but any camera with the kit lens will nver give you decent colors.
>>14617694
> 30 minutes to review a kit
> doesn't pass verdict on it
Zaku is the worst.
>>14617099
No, they will take away his access to jap plastic. Trust me, I once said that the Double X had a weak waist and now they won't take my credit cards.
Is there any possible way I could replicate something with some hand-painting or is that a pipe dream?
>>14617760
Possible? Yes. Pipe dream? Also yes.

And remember, cosplayers want attention, no shame in taking pictures of that. Especially if she's in a tracksuit.
When is Adam Savage going to build gunpla?
>>14618098
I've been searching as well. I'm hoping pics pop up in the next few days as photographers go home and post albums.

>>14617265
Not bad, but you still need some nub cleaning. I can see some obvious ones on the calves, and some less obvious ones on the shield. Theres also probably more I cant see from this angle.
>>14618675
Why do you persistently post in a general that hates everything you post? Is there anything to be gained from you posting your model kits here as opposed to literally anywhere else on the internet? Who knows, if you did that you may be met with some degree of admiration instead of being actively despised by every member of the community you supposedly contribute too.
Anyone have the 2016 HG Thunderbolt Gundam? Any thoughts about it?

Do people actually want a ground gundam revive? I've heard a bunch of people say they're excited for one since the ground GM "hints it", but the ground gundam literally has no problems aside from that shitty shield connector.
Why are people dumb
I'm a retard. I just started in this MG Zeta plus and I immediately forgot to place this part on this section of the arm. I can't get it apart to put it in, any advice on what to do?

Pair of pliers, put just enough force to keep them on the parts, and pull.
Hope to god the parts dont snap.

as expected, with such bulk, it can't even move
although, unlike the shield, the rifle can be lift up with no problem, thank to that extra connector at the back
