The government goes stupid and decides to hunt the Riders,considering them the same as the evil monsters that they defeated, "Hybrid Insectors".

The protagonist thought that his father had been killed by a Hybrid Insector, and joins the government for revenge. It eventually turns out that he's super compatible with a mass produced Rider system, giving him power comparable to the real deals. Anyway, it turns out that his father had actually been killed by the government forces and he was a Hybrid Insector himself. The government special force is really shady, and their number 1 goal is just taking down the Riders, even though Shocker apparently was back.

The story didn't get there, but the unit is renamed "Anti-Shocker Union" once Shocker supposedly appears, and that was the name used in the original series by an organization that turned out to be infiltrated and controlled by Shocker, so I guess something similar was supposed to be going on here.

If you never watched the original series, sure.

Hongo frequently ends episodes/arcs lamenting over a lack of humanity, and when he first became a Rider he didn't even have full control over his abilities - breaking doors and shit just from trying to open them. He also didn't get his mind control "cured" by staring at a "water crystal." He got freed by a good man before he was taken over. He also shows a frequent soft-side, often being the one to actually try and hear kids out when they're the ones who encounter Shocker.

Ichimonji is the kind of guy who basically is every sort of "What a 70s woman wants" stereotype put together. He's a hard-ass, he calls people out (Even kids) on not being "manly," (During the same exchange he does this, Hongo's the one hearing the kid out, as mentioned earlier) and is the more "straightforward" one, often getting outsmarted by Hongo, such as the exchange where Hongo tricked him with a two-headed coin.

Kazami's a sad goddamn case in V3, and it's a lot harder to pinpoint due to bad filler/Rider Scouts bullshit, but it shows he's very focused on payback above all else, and his general "Renaissance man" and general cool guy persona is just a front for an underlying anger. it really fucking shows when Joji's losing his shit over his right arm being fake before Shiro just hits him, transforms, and says "My entire body is fake."

The only praise I can give any of the First/Next Riders is, Rider 2 is the only one who doesn't let misunderstandings faggotry get in the way during the Next, he actually goes out of his fucking way to help Hongo even when his Karada is Boroboro Da.
