The NUN Fafner's in Exodus got massively upgraded with cores too shown in episode 1, and the Makabe Factor from Kazuki used to pilot them was most likely taken from the time Kazuki was held prisoner too, they did some test on him then.

I don't think they're weak. We just haven't seen very much of them.

Not to mention between the new crop of Gen 3 and the NUNkids, one group has 2 characters related to antagonists, so they seem a lot more interesting, as well as the most qt living pilot in the show, the other has...3 kids who have cool piloting gimmicks and bad taste in mech names, but comparatively less screen time than say Gen 1 got.

I mean it took about 20 episodes for Sakura and Kenji to hit their stride as characters in DA.

As far as Gen 3 goes, they're good characters in someone else's show.

The resolution with Sui's mom was influenced by Canon's future fight. It was different since it wasn't character driven, but I wouldn't call it weak.

I think I'd like to add that Gen 3 is their to help with the veracity of the world. I mean sure, the existing pilots could've just been buffed to make 3 new pilots unnecessary, but Fafner has a pretty strong motif of teamwork, and having more parts to use on the team helps a lot.

Like the NUNs pilots they just don't get enough screen time. This is one reason (in addition to the Einherjar Models) why I feel like they're in the show to set up for possible future seasons without most of the original cast. I could easily see the surviving Gen 3 and NUNs becoming the leads in some future Fafner project. Lead by a grizzled PTSD afflicted Maya of course.

I see a decent amount of love for the NUN kid trio, unless it's all just a couple people, but even in comparison I don't really get it.

I do like Billy, especially with recent episodes he feels like the most genuine of the bunch. But overall we still don't know them very well, even being Mitsuhiro's son Johnathan feels like slightly wasted potential, there must be something big in store for him.

And vaguely related to those three, I wonder what the deal is with Narain too. He seems like a nice enough guy, but we have no idea why he has a Festum body like Soushi, or really anything else bout him.

Exodus can't be the end. They gotta give us another movie or if we're really lucky S3.

I think it's also how most of Gen 3 are almost completely unrelated to the existing cast. Sui has his crush on Rina, who was somewhat relevant in his subplot with his parents.

Reo and Mimika don't really have any direct connection and are only relevant to each other's subplots, which are only based off their worsening SDP conditions. And that's just a boring. At least with other characters, they go through suffering because of the death of others, like Kenji with Mamoru and his mom, Sakura with her dad, the Nishios with their parents, etc.

Sui's stuff was resolved because it was just family problems that required the family actually communicating rather than just feeding into the mothers emotional distress.

Reo and Mimika are just new characters going through the motions of learning to love while fighting in a robot. It doesn't make sense that they'd have been hanging out with the 1st and 2nd gen because they'd have been around fucking 10 at the time. Most other 1st gen pilots got even less focus than those 3 until we hit episode 17. They were just there and sortie'd once.

You care about the 1st Gens more because you've already been through a complete story with them, and to the lesser extent the 2nd Gens. Once Exodus is over your complaints about the 3rd Gen will probably be gone to since their stuff is still going on.

People can be so impatient. This is a story that builds characters over time. I mean, if you remove the 3rd Gen pilots what do we get out of Island episodes after episode 8? We get Rina (vegetable), Seri (Orihime Time), Kenji and Sakura's romance and the Adults and while those are all enjoyable the 3rd Gens give a bit more LIFE to the island setting. I mean fuck, if you look at how much screentime Canon actually had in this series you realize the majority of it ended up in her 2 last episodes.

Both.

The Salvator Models were high spec/high burn models. Basically miniature Zero Models with all the fire power that entailed.

Then each of them had Festum shit done to them and that had the effect of either Squaring or Cubing their powers.

That's why the hype is real for when the Zero Model gets deployed. Because it's going to be running off TWO SDPs along with it's already crazy output.

Remember Fafners are just mechanical Festum. Like a resonance chamber. The more energy goes in (from the Festum battery/Core), the greater amplitude of the wave (manifested as Festum SDP. In your pic, it's a big Worm Sphere infused with Lightning. We've seen Worm Spheres that size before in DA's finale, and Belcross has been able to manipulate lightning)
With the Salvator models, Hino and Bartland took that concept and then (no doubt with help from Mjolnir) figured out a way to virtually remove any dampening effect that a normal resonance chamber might have. Once they removed the "limiters", Soushi and Kazuki are able to tap into that wealth of SDP power. The reason they're the only ones that can is because well, Soushi has a Festum body and the right mindset, and Kazuki because he's the MC/has the perfect state of mind needed to pilot it/willed the current iteration of Sein into being.

One other thing to point out.
Nicht has nommed Sein twice, and Sein has nommed Nicht once, which created some sorta connection between the two of them and probably helps to even further amplify, or at least make it easier for each mech to tap into their SDP pools.

There isn't a thing either of those mechs have done that a Festum hasn't done in some form or fashion. With the exception of the fangs and laser pods.

Look at H&E, a dinky lil Sphinx-type A manages to cover an island in Worm Spheres. It's the Salvators, not the pilots that derive the power.
That is unlike the islanders' because in those cases the SDP is linked to the pilot, but works best in their favored Fafner.

Speculation, but I'm not sure they could build an Einherjar and have it be as powerful without a D-Island spawned Core. The Nothung/Einherjar Cores are intrinsically linked to the Island Mir and I'm not sure sticking the Einherjar equipment on a non-island Core would have the same effects.
I suppose Ashoka could do something similar, supposing it was the progenitor of the Fafner in question's Core, but the island's Mir is pretty special, plus it has the guidance assistance of a Core-type.

Figuring out the Festum was just because she was present to send out a lantern. Looking at the water after years of thinking about the L Plan made her realize that the island is displacing water despite being invisible, which would be noticeable from space.

Her main issue was that her husband had been feeding into her survivors guilt for 4+ years and Sui was a fucking 10 year old who couldn't say shit until he really started piloting.

I mean, it's a small thing but Rina DID reinforce that he should fight to survive, not just fight out of a sense of duty and be ready to sacrifice himself the moment things get hasty.

It's his character arc.
His first sortie he does what he thinks is best but makes sure that a part of the island is ready to blow if he fails.
His second sortie he disregards Kenji's orders because he thinks he knows better and doesn't respect Kenji. He gets blown the fuck out until his SDP activates when he wants to be able to fight.
He then gets NISHIO'D and starts building up the balls to talk back to his Mom about her being unreasonable.

His most aggressive outbursts are probably the influence of Rina. Her being more vocal and emotional is what she's rubbed off on him since he'd basically just bottle everything up before.

I'm not going to be surprised if he asks Rina on a date soon.

Just finish rewatching everything, I just noticed how much Fafner likes to shit on the Gen 2 kids, none of them could do anything right.
