To be perfectly honest the best gloves for shooting that I've ever gotten was a set of Nike batting gloves that were on clearance. Things have lasted me like 7 years by now. Problem is they are bright red, and now they are getting a little tired.

I have a question about the plate carriers. If someone takes fire from a rifle, is the plate carrier reinforced by kevlar or some other fibers?

Or is it really meant to be replaced whenever fire is taken, as no clothing item is truly TRULY meant to be resisting weapons fire.
>>
>>35077486
The plate carrier gets holes in it. 99% of them have no ballistic material built in, and of those that do, it's all backers.

You can always have a handy field sewing kit to take care of holes if you're that desperate and without a replacement.

y'all didn't know you could get dead bird from alibaba or ebay, just without the logo, from the night shift at the factory in China where they make them for like 1/4 the price?

it's the same materials, cut, etc. they make whatever they're contracted to make, then they make a few more for themselves to sell on the side.

my dad (hurr my dad works at nintendo meme) ran a US garment factory for a while, we basically were a subcontractor to make garments for fashion brands your mom wore in the 90's.
>>
>>35077839
That's the only photo I was able to get that showed it well. I thought the flap on the top of the plate pocket and zipper underneath would be a good give-away as they're appear to be integral and not a MOLLE add-on.

Hi /k/,

I'm a photographer from /p/ headed to Ukraine for two months in December and January. I need to purchase my own plates and helmet, as the Ukrainian military doesn't provide for embeds, and I won't be spending my entire time as a military embed, while still working in the populated areas surrounding the semi-static front line.

The pastebin's are handy, but I've been looking at purchasing plates and LBE from Infidel Armor. I trust American made products. I also need a rig I can attach my camera kit to, which I'm currently running in a Hazard4 MOLLE rig.

Heres what I'd planned to purchase:

Infidel Bellator Plate Carrier
Infidel 10x12 Level IV Plates

Either the MICH helmet offered on Infidel or a Revision Viper P2 or Crye Airframe (Price is similar on the last two ~$825, while the highcut MICH on Infidel is only $450. I couldn't figure out if theres any reason for such a large price difference)

I live in New York City, and I was considering going to Crye Precision in Brooklyn and having a demo with them to make my mind up. Their JPC also looks good, but I like the peace of mind that comes with the plates and carrier coming from the same place, ie Infidel. Does anyone have experience with them?

This project is still a ways off, but I'm changing my workout routine for more cardio and stamina-under-weight training routines. I see that Rogue Fitness sells dummy plates for training, I'd love to get the carrier and start doing my hikes and runs with the plates occasionally.

I've done RISC level training as well as worked in static conflict areas before (Israel/Palestine, Sinai, Northern Ireland) so I have a full IFAK with extra tourniquets and celox and the like. I also have a 2L Source tactical reservoir.

Finally, I promise I will get some good pictures of Ukrainian and separatist troops in the ATO and share them with you guys after I'm all done.
>>
>>35078768
Considering they're offering a condor MOPC on the front page as "high quality affordable body armor" I'd advise against buying one of their PC's. Their plates are on the NIJ list so your good there.
>>
>>35078768
As much as I like Crye, the airframe isn't that good and the JPC is a very minimalist plate carrier, which isn't bad but if you want a comfort and protection, look elsewhere.
The price difference in the helmets comes from the weight(the airframe being fairly heavy for what you pay for) and comfort (not that a MICH isn't "comfortable")
Also
>but I like the peace of mind that comes with the plates and carrier coming from the same place
Throw that idea out the window and you should probably get a set of electronic ear protection if you're going to be around loud noises.

>>
>>35078939
yeah I see they sell the Condor stuff, not going there. The Bellator isn't a Condor sub, it's stated as Made in USA in house.

>>35079031
Yeah their stuff seems super minimalist and more short mission orientated. This armor would be worn 12-14 hours+ daily. For a helmet, the Viper P2 with the liner pads seems like the way to go, at 2.5 pounds.

Ahh yeah I forgot to mention I own Sordin Pro-X EHPs. I was also wondering if a standard full cut helmet would work with these. The Viper P2 comes in full, mid, and high cut. I'd like to take as much coverage as possible from my helmet.

All in all, this will be a body armor set up for multiple trips in the coming year(s) to Ukraine, along with possible other embeds, so my budget sits in the ~$2000 range for Helmet, LBE, and Plates.
>>
>>35077161
Ibuki a cutie
>>
>>35079227
Is it 2.5 lbs for the shell or the entire setup?
If sized properly, ear pro will fit fine, however I don't have a lot of experience with that kind of setup so can't comment on how comfortable it will be in the long run.

For a carrier/vest, maybe look into something more concealable like a slick carrier, unless you want more protection (like side plates, however some slicks do accommodate for side plates).
>>
>>35079433
https://www.revisionmilitary.com/en/head-systems/helmets/batlskin-full-cut-helmet-142
1224 grams (2.69 pounds) for the whole system.

I'm not too concerned regarding concealment since I'll wearing this over my clothes and with a military unit for ~80-90% of the time. Additionally, I can't carry a shoulder bag so I'm carting my camera in a Hazard4 case that attaches to a PALS system.
>>
>>35079654
Understandable, I'd definitely recommend lighter plates if you're going to be wearing this thing for extended periods of time.

Please advise. I want to run with practicality in mind, and I'm going off what I learned from basic. Pic related is what I'm putting together now, but I want to make sure I'm not being stupid with my placement. I also don't really know if a dump pouch is worth it to offset the pistol on the belt, since we were instructed to drop our spent mags down the front of our shirts(waist drawstring kept them inside). Regarding camelbak tubes, stow them on the non-shouldering side? I had a canteen before.
>>

Is this worth it for a first setup or should I go with something else?

>>
>>35079719
so basically you want a 6sh92 with a camelback ?

well go for it
>>
>>35079719
Pistol mags generally go on the opposite side in regards to your holster
>>
>>35079719
MAV from Tactical Tailor combined with a camelbak seems a good option.
>>
>>35079717
Right, here is where I run into misunderstanding. If I were covering something like Ferguson or Baltimore a few years ago, I would go with plates that stop handgun rounds, which seem to be IIIA. Since I'll be in an area with danger from high powered rifles and military level AP rounds, wouldn't I be best suited with the level IV plates? I'm trying to get a jump on this now, so I have just about three possible months to get my stamina and core used to extended hikes and exercise in the armor before wearing it for days on end.

Lighter weight, not lighter duty; ceramic or UHMWPE level IV plates rather than steel ones.
You're going to be wearing this shit all day and pounds equal pain.
>>
>>35079858
What I meant was lighter level 4 plates, but yes, level IV plates should protect you from most ballistic threats you will encounter in Ukraine.
That being said, getting hit doesn't mean you'll be fine, you'll most likely break a rib or two; or in the case of a head impact, you'll probably be out cold.
>>
>>35079904
gotcha. I see RMA makes lighter ones by about a half pound for double the amount, and then also makes super lightweight (4.4 pounds per plate) as well for a lot more. I'll weigh those options. Thanks.

I take a lot of noguns to learn to shoot and after educating a few in basic (and I mean don't look down the barrel don't point at anybody) basic gun safety and I'm starting to think plates are a good idea

What's a basic setup under $800 that can take one round of 5.45, 9mm, or 5.56 62gr at near PB
>>

You got quite a lot of options if your budget is 800. A set of good ceramic plates will be the majority of it, but a good carrier can acquired for between 100-200

The TLR compared to an X300 for example feels like a plastic toy, even though it is a reliable light.

like LITERALLY every day leaving and coming into port or anchorage on a training ship because we didnt have anyone with their MARS course to do night sailing yet who was willing to actually do normal OOW shit on top of being the captain of a literally 20 crew """ship"""

anon's gloves are just trash and he is a dumb nigger for paying THIRTY REAL AMERICAN DOLLARS for such trashy gloves that they didnt even survive two days of manual labor

they dont even look grippy, its textured but the material itself looks smooth and easily worn smooth
>>
This is probably dumb AF but I'm genuinely curious...

Is there any SAPI-sized "weight" that you can use to take up the space/weight BUT NOT USE AS ARMOR, just to acclimate someone to the fit and weight?

Like if someone wants to gauge how a lighter / heavier / smaller / larger plate would feel to them in their current carrier (improved or not worth the $$$) it doesn't seem like there's a really good way to "test drive" the feel and fit without actually coughing up the money.

Again, not that one would labor under the delusion of it being armor, just that it would fill the pocket and be the same weight or size of the plate they were considering.
>>
>>35083374
https://www.ar500armor.com/ar500-armor-body-armor.html
>>
>>35083374

No shit they make AIRSOFT fake SAPI plates for like 12 bucks but those are ONLY for the shape, they're made of light plastic.

Uhhh... maybe get one of those plates and then drill and add weight or tape on heavy washers to it and weigh it till it's the right weight?

It's kinda an extremely fringe use case. Not many people are that anal about it.
>>

I pulled the trigger on the Infidel plates. I've cut my pack way down, and I was working with 25 pound kits previously, so while I know paying another $500 may have shaved off 4-6 pounds, I feel comfortable paying out $750 for the carrier and plates weighing 8 pounds each. I've also ordered Rogue Fitness weight plates to work into my cardio routine so I can acclimate to that weight distribution. I also bought AR500 level III soft plates for the sides. I have yet to choose the helmet but am leaning towards a Revision Viper platform. The 6b47 you recommended is a Russian helmet, and while I really doubt anyone would care, I'd like to stay as far from a discussion on that point as possible while embed with pro-Ukrainian forces in the east. thanks for the suggestion!

I'm back from Jerusalem next week and the kit should be there then, I'll post a picture in case any suggestions might come up.

What's stopping me from buying A 5.11 tactic PC AND FILLING IT WITH AR500 III+ ALSC plates?
>besides condor both are relatively available and cheap
>lightweight and the 5.11 can now be humped for a long time

Especially if im a "one with the ground" stereotype and on a budget

For $140-$150 I would spend the extra $50 with someone like Velocity Systems 100 times over.

You might get lucky with 5.11, you might not. I've had some of their soft gear through trades or flash sales, the stitching has generally been the only part that stands out as suspect on any of it. That and they pay gooks to make it.
>>
>>35090514
You have to operate cool with the tacticool gear but at the same time don't over tacticool yourself withe gear that's the #1 rule operating on his level.
>>
>>35077881

Oh I knew about this, but I wouldn't necessarily trust the night shift stuff to be made to the same standards.

And that's not "muh gear elitism" talking, it's personal experience dealing with Chinese suppliers.
(admittedly in the auto industry not garments, so not straight apples to apples)

TL;DR when a Chinese supplier sees a corner that can be cut, they cut it.

Take a specific chin spoiler for a very popular Japanese automobile. The genuine article uses a specific procedure to pop it out of the mold (release chemicals and extra steps), while the night shift just gets popped out of the mold with no release liner and skipped steps.
So what you get is the same plastic out of the same mold, it's just warped to fuck because it wasn't released properly.

That's the phenomenon I'm talking about, and I have no reason to believe it is any different with garments. If you have gwailo dead bird reps in the QC department ready to reject off center stitches, they might think twice. When the gwailo are home for the night, it's back to business as usual.

Grimlocs: meme or operator approved?

I see lots of carabiners but I haven't spotted a single grimloc in a gear shot yet.

For that matter, are plain old dollar store carabiners up to the abuse dispensed from hanging gloves and chemlights?

So what way do you guys tie off the excess of your straps on your gear? I just got a D3CRX and after fighting the adjustment have a ton left over. Also do you set it to one adjustment and roll with it? or do you adjust it every time you put it on. very noob with gear stuff and straight up only bought it cause a rifle class required i have one.
pic completely unrelated

Some chest rigs I'll set it and gorilla tape the excess folded up straps.

The D3CR(((X))) I generally just let the straps fly and if I want them out of the way I just tuck them in somewhere out of the way of stuff I might want to grab on my belt line.

Guess it would depend on the size of the knife. If we're talking a large field knife, I'd probably drop a mag and secure it in a pouch.

I'd opt for a folder clipped to my pocket and any large knife strapped to or stowed in a pack.
>>
Was going you guys could help with as problem. I'm a soldier and whenever I take the time to adjust the straps on my ACH just right it never lasts. Next time I put it on our flops all over my head. Are there some good after market straps I could get to secure the bitch?
