Is a Doctor Mervin/Toy Soldier LV-MBAV a plateworthy carrier? As in, will it hold up semi-heavy range training and a potential bug out/riot/civil war/ayy lmao invasion scenario?
It's not just the Crye aesthetics but also weight distribution.

I wasn't aware that he still made them since Crye bought out all the material to make them, how much is he charging? I like my LV-MBAV, but adjusting the thing is a bitch, the Crye chest rig/skeletal molle attachment is extremely rare, and you can't mount anything to the back like a hydration carrier/MAP but I usually just wear a backpack anyways; other than that it's very comfortable. Do you have an specific questions about it?
Also if you can wait 6~ months, there is a source for real ones if you're interested.

Feel a little out of place in this thread but I figure this would be better than making my own thread. I won the first two holsters in pic related. What I like about them is it's universal fit, I have lots of dumb guns like Glock 40/41, M&P9 Core, long slide 1911, this universal holster fits em all with little fuss. I mainly just like to have my pistol while fucking around on my property. Now the problem I have with the leg drop holster is it's a little low. Was thinking of removing the the top strap and finding a shorter buckle system to get it an inch or two higher on my leg, I think I can figure that out on my own. That stand alone holster has PALs webbing on the back, now I don't have any load bearing gear to put it on, I normally just thread the pals onto my belt but it's not very secure especially with the Glock 40 with a full mag since it's so dang heavy.

The other big issue with these holsters is they don't support red dots. I really want to put a reddot on my glock 40 at least if only to try. Really what i'm looking for is a way to carry my pistol while hiking that can support a red dot and light that fits dumb shit like the Glock 40, anyone got any ideas?

I have a chest holster for my S&W 500 and it's awesome but once my backpack is on all the straps get kinda tangled up and it becomes uncomfortable. Just looking for ideas on things to try.

What I'm saying is, the loop the tape is running through, you can use 550 cord. It will break easy. Try it.
>>
>>35063230
which will break first? the 550 or the chemlight?

you pulling the strands of the 550 cord out and melting the ends? show me how you're doing it m8

The closed loop on the chemlight is designed to break. You can make one big bundle out of a single strand of 550, and pull the chem lights off as needed.

I'm guessing the answer is no based on my googling, but are there any electronic muffs out there that can be adapted to both helmet and soft cover applications?

Also generally speaking, I guess Peltor is still the best out there? Is it USGI stuff or do they issue an off brand?

kinda, I mean you could wear your ear pro under your helmet, and just move the pads, so that the helmet strap isnt impeded. Also they make straps that are minimal and go around the back of the skull rather than the top. Comtacs, are generally the gold standard, mainly if your adding Comms to your headsets. If not, theres plenty of solutions out there.

While not tactical as fuck and not capable of integrating with comms, Howard Leight Impacts are the eternal champion of bang for buck. Cheap, long lasting, surprisingly good stereo pass through audio and relatively slim compared to most muffs.

An equally decent alternative. That being said having used them, they are not noticeably superior in any way to HLs. Both offer pretty much the same feature set, both feel damn near identical on the head/ears and both offer pretty decent stereo pass through audio for the price.

the audio quality and ambient noise reduction is leaps and bounds ahead of leights, also having used both extensively. leights are still very good, but the sound quality is noticeably much more tinny and of lower fidelity
no offense, but do you have any kind of hearing damage? because that could play into the perceived difference, it's absolutely night and day for me

I'm thinking about buying this load bearing vest from Evike, I know they mostly sell airsoft junk (I try to only buy real gear like eagle industries, tactical tailor etc, even usgi pouches) but they claim that this one is actually an overproduction from a military contract so it's USGI and is made to mil specs.

"This vest is an excess production from a Military contract order, made right here in the USA to the highest specification, brought to us by the OEM of future Evike.com USA manufacturing. Limited supply. The Ranger Load Carriage System (RLCS) is an "H" hear style MOLLE platform vest. The body is constructed of heavy-duty, water and abrasion resistant Cordura nylon. There are slots in the body of the vest for flotation foam inserts (not included). Additional gear space for the vest comes from an adjustable rear panel which also has MOLLE attachment points giving you additional surface area to load out.
Features:

Made in USA.
Genuine defense contract issued equipment
Padded shoulder and circumferential carrying apparatus
Large sized rig is adjustable in almost all dimensions
Authentic Ranger Green coloration
Low drag and low profile design
MOLLE compatible platform
Multiple adjusting points for perfect fit
1000 Denier Cordura
Mil-spec construction.
Reinforced seams and bound edges
Heavyweight bonded nylon thread

Size:One size fits most.
Color: Ranger Green
Material: Cordura nylon"

Do you think it's really true or it's just made in China crap and that description is full of lies? I want it because the rows of molle are odd in the back which is hard to find and I can mount my c420 papr in a blower pouch perfectly without it being an inch offset to one side of my body or the other.

I want to get a battle vest for military use. I have so far concluded to two options.

This: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emerson-CAGE-Plate-Carrier-CPC-Vest-Tactical-Adjustable-Load-bearing-MOLLE-Vest/292023526971
and this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Emerson-Tactical-Modular-MOLLE-LBT-6094A-Plate-Carrier-Multicam-Tropic-Combat-Vest-w-5-56-223/32792329422.html

Both of them have plate pouches on front/rear/side, which is the most important part of it (hate battle vests without plate pockets). I'm leaning towards the first one. I like the integrated triple magazine pouch. Allows the addition of extra magazine pouches without limiting space.

I like the radio pouch the second one has, but it's not something I cannot add to the first vest.

Aside from that, I'm worried about quality. I need something ready for all, not some airsoft junk. As I'm not that experienced in battle vests, I'd like some advice from /k/. Thanks in advance.

That can't be legit. Shoulder straps are waaaay too wide and short, and the issue RLCS only has 2 fastex closures up front, and the back only has two straps down and a removable lumbar pad for extra girth. I know some versions (like the Air Force H-harness) had two extensions under the front straps, but not with two extra rows of MOLLE and not with the closures and rear panels/adjustments on this, this thing looks all wrong.

Is my intel outdated or is Evike up to some bullshit here?

>Emerson is meant for airsoft

Really? Heh, couldn't find reviews and stuff so I didn't know.

>What's your price range and what requirements do you have?
>Whats your budget?

Budget is around to ~200 Euros (15/20 give or take), though I wouldn't mind for something cheaper (without losing much operational value).

I need front and rear plate carrier pouches for both soft and hard plates. I thought of getting one with side pouches (for plates) too, just in case I ever decide to use them. I don't know if it's a good option to use molle pouches for side plates since I also want at least one side pouch. So having a molle pouch on a molle pouch doesn't sound much... comfortable, but then again... I wouldn't know.

Besides that, I want to mention that I need something that can actually be used in the field. Aka, not something that can tear up easily/fast in harsh conditions.

It's my first battle vest purchase so I really don't know where to look at.
>>
>>35067737
Stop calling it a battle vest. And what do you mean by "military use". You a Euro military, LARPer or what?
>>
>>35067749

>Stop calling it a battle vest

That's how we call it over here, don't get so mad at it. Different countries use different designation. Actually, that's how some USA soldiers called them a few months ago when they came in my military unit. Or was it combat vest?

Anyways, I'm in Euro army. I'm gonna go to kosovo for 6 months in 2 months and I need a vest than i can actually depend on since the ones we get by the army are... quite useless.

If it has plates, it's a plate carrier or an armor vest. Chest rigs, vests, and LBEs all don't have armor. You seem to be wanting something with armor, but your phrasing is very ambiguous.
"Battle rattle" is the US slang term, but that's for *everything* all at once.

Anyway, everything you've listed so far sucks. Get an Eagle, LBT, or PIG carrier. They all have versions that take sideplates.

Just get something with a kangaroo pouch and/or MOLLE on the front. A plate carrier with built in pouches sticking out the front generally sucks. It's also usually a sign of low quality airshit.

I've camped for two weeks in the Upper Peninsula before during January, I'm telling you right now that relying on wood fire heat during the winter sucks.

You're going to need the following,

>Quality Hatchet for cutting wood
>A very, very solid understanding of how to create heat fast.
>I'd bring some solid firestarting material, I like to use cotton balls doused in napalm.

If you don't get the idea already, you need heat. If the power goes down during winter and you're innawoods that is your number one concern by far.

The next thing I'd say you have to be aware of is that you need a four season tent. Wallmart trash just won't cut it.

Bring a sleeping bag that is rated for lower that you expect the temperature to be.

Jeans a shit, they get wet and cold and never ever dry out.

The cold will kill you faster than any imaginary openent ever could.

D3CR is the original rig and comes in light, heavy, and "X" configurations; one is made by Haley and the other is made by MBC, both companies use the same product names. They're alright, they'll hold up fine.
MBC products are used by Russian SSO.

Would this be an OK thread to ask about knife recommendations?

I'm thinking about carrying a knife in my kit, not really because I expect to have it in a speed draw sheath and remember the basics of CQC, just if I need to cut some paracord or something. I feel like most multitool blades are a little shurgworthy.

Would a budget fixed blade be good enough for that, or are there better folding options out there?

dragon skin is always ceramic, silica carbide discs, it's the SOV-2000 vest and it was private purchased from pinnacle by a us military service member. Because of the army's ban on private purchased armor he never used it so it's essentially brand new.

actually from all the research I've done I believe the military outright falsified data on those tests.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Skin

"Law enforcement

In Fresno, California, a police department commissioned the purchase of Dragon Skin for its officers after a vest stopped all the bullets fired during a test, including .308 rounds from a rifle and 30 rounds from a 9mm MP5 fired from five feet away. The armor also stopped 40 rounds of PS-M1943 mild steel-core bullets from an AK-47 along with 200 9 mm full metal jacket bullet fired from a submachine gun.[10]
Academic"
>>
>>35071729
"Dragon Skin Level III armor was also tested the week of October 2, 2006 by Dr. Gary Roberts, DDS, Stanford University Medical Center.[11] These tests were conducted for a local law enforcement agency, as a control sample a stand-alone Armored Mobility Incorporated (AMI) level III steel composite plate armor was used for comparison. Both types of armor were conditioned for 12 hours at 170 °F (77 °C), then moved to ambient air for approximately 90 minutes prior to being shot. The problems associated with the use of inelastic clay backing material have been well documented; as such, the armor was secured to a life-size curvilinear torso replica made of Perma-Gel. Each armor system was shot a minimum of 20 times with five rounds of each ammunition type fired against each armor system—one 90 degree perpendicular shot, two shots at 60 degrees obliquity, and two shots at 30 degrees obliquity, using each of the following loads fired at a distance of 10 feet (3.0 m):

5.56 mm 40 gr LeMas Urban Warfare (using a moly coated Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet) with a 3,718 feet (1,133 m) per second average velocity.
5.56 mm M855 62 gr FMJ with a 3,054 feet (931 m) per second average velocity.
7.62×39mm M43 123 gr steel-core FMJ with a 2,307 feet (703 m) per second average velocity.
.30-06 M2 150 gr FMJ with a 2,736 feet (834 m) per second average velocity.

All of the above ammo was successfully stopped by both armor systems in this testing, with no armor failures or penetrations, even after receiving multiple hits.""

Honestly having worn dragon skin it is much heavier than the military issued armor anyway, you're better off with slightly less protection and more mobility, dragon skin is really only good for stationary/room clearing. It's essentially like a bomb suit.

There is a size large sov 2000 on ebay for 2.5k or best offer he'd probably take 1000. It's even in dcu camo too. The thing about dragon skin is it is heavy but it conforms to the body, it's like a flexible plate in a way and so it doesn't feel quite as heavy as it actually is once you have it on and it's adjusted right.

>>
>>35071973
Well that's always something to consider, those are cool but you don't really get any more protection than say an IOTV. With dragon skin at least espicially original pinnacle dragon skin it'll retain it's value and or go up over time because it's collectable and because of the military controversy. People still have mixed feelings about it some believe the military was telling the truth about the failed tests others believe they were protecting their contractors for IBAs and IOTVS, the subsequent tests by independent labs seem to indicate the latter. There is also a dragon skin 2 that's being sold by the same guy apparently who invented dragon skin, it's supposedly lighter etc.
>>
The other advantage of dragon skin is apparently from everything I've read it not only stop rounds like a plate but the blunt force trauma is significantly less than conventional plates. There have been reports that I've read of service members who wore dragon skin before the ban (some probably after the ban) who got shot and say all they really had was a bruise. One account I remember reading says he was shot in the back with a 7.62x39mm round from an AK and didn't realize it until hours after the firefight was over. Obviously adrenaline plays a role in this but apparently dragon skin allows you more so than any other armor to more effectively return fire after being shot because of the decrease in blunt force trauma.

watch these and all 3 parts of the first video. In tested it was shown to significantly reduce blunt force trauma. My guess is because the disks are thicker 1/4" or more than a sapi plate. They also over lap so in some areas the armor is like 1/2" where as even an esapi is only about 1/4" boron carbide. Having much more mass despite being sort of flexible (it's really not as flexible as they'd have you believe) It's the increased mass and thickness of the disks and the fact they tightly overlap that gives it better blunt force trauma protection.
