Questions that don't deserve their own thread

Bought a used 22lr rifle it shoots 7 inches high at 25 yards. The obvious solution would be adjust the sights. Except they are rusted in place leaving me with nonadjustable adjustable sights. Why the hell would anyone zero a 22lr 7 inches high? Does it correspond to anything? drop at 100 is 5-6 inches. would 7 inch high be 125? My range only goes to 100 couldnt test that theory out.
>>
>>34699201
Not all ammo shoots to the same place, retard.

Gonna go out on a limb and assume you're shooting it with the cheapest bulkpack you can find. If so, it's sub 40 grain high velocity, and will hit substantially higher than 40gr standard velocity (which is subsonic) match ammo, and a FUCKLOAD higher than something really slow like CCI Quiet or Aguila Super Colibri.
>>
>>34699201
Different ammunition will have a different point of impact, assuming someone intentionally set it to where it is now they were likely using a bit lower velocity ammo than you are for a 100 yard zero.
>>
>>34699201
how about you soak that shit into some vinegar?
>>
>>34699201
Penetrating oil or buy new sights. Also try some sub-sonic or primer-only ammo and see if it doesn't hit closer to target. I remember some people who competed with .22lr in target matches used sub-sonic ammo to prevent the pressure wave that usually forms with super or trans sonic ammo from fucking with the bullet's accuracy.

Since we are all talking about .22lr right now:

How much are you paying for .22LR in your area? The cheapest I've found is at a local Academy store for about 5.23cents per round.

Anybody know how to best remove a triggerguard lock without destroying the triggerguard? I don't care about destroying the lock, I just want it off.
I bought a lovely shotgun from an estate sale, but it has a triggerguard lock on it and they had no idea where grandpa had left the key for it.

Is there any good reason not to do this? I just got a Vz, and the only thing I dislike about it is the length of the stock.

Any other/better options for increasing length of pull on a Vz besides wearing a parka?

If you're talking about the federal auto match bulk pack, yeah it's the cheapest I've found so far as well.

This is actually what im doing right now. Shame i didnt notice how bad it was before i took it to the range. Thought it was just minor surface but was locked up solid.
>>
>>34699568
The gun is a Browning BPS, my understanding is that there is just one big triggergroup with the guard integral to it so that'd be more of a hassle.
I'm probably just going to try to drill it out.
>>
>>34699600
Definitely not for the use in firearms, many old black powder guns have been destroyed by kids taking apart fireworks to use in the guns, thinking they were using black powder but in reality using flash powder.

Hey guys, I have a specific question about CC methods. I have a Glock 19 and I want it kinda like in the image.

The problem is I can't really fit any conventional holster between my waistband and tactical absorbency garment. Anybody here have this problem or experience with their TAG?
>>
>>34699648
But if you actually knew what you had you could adjust loads accordingly to not blow it up. Sure it might be too high pressure for black, but could it be used in a strong smokeless gun?

I carry OWB, and do not wear any TAG unless in business attire.

Honestly, if you wear slacks with a bit of elastic in the waist, you won't have too much of an issue if you carry IWB with a good holster.

Oh I didn't expect anyone here to have this problem.
I used to have problems carrying and my TAGs getting in the way.

I just put my EDC directly into my TAG. I use the ABU Spaces, the plastic hold up to wear a lot better and the capacity is great.
I just recommend using more powder, and you won't have any chafing to deal with later.

I've started carrying an LCP2 in my pocket and it's fun to carry, especially because I have hip problems and IWB carry can make it worse, but it fucking hurts my hand while shooting Fiocchi 95 gr .380. I try gripping the gun as tight as possible but it makes no difference. I get a lot less of it when I'm shooting my carry ammo (Federal Hydra shock 90 gr JHP) but it's more expensive, so I'm trying to find some 50 round boxes of FMJ I can shoot that won't snap super hard.

When choosing lower recoil ammo what should i look for the most, low grainage, low FPS or low Muzzle energy? probably muzzle energy right?

I always figured I'd just use 12ga, but my cousin uses 20ga for hunting and my friend also prefers 20ga because that's also what his dad used.

>>
>>34703311
20ga can do most jobs a 12 can, but with a lot less recoil. It's really a matter of personal preference and how good you are at handling recoil. Personally, I find to much kick sometimes results in necessitating a change of TAG.

Hey thread, I wanna buy a new Polymer stock for one of my Mosin-Nagant ( I have 4, stock is for the most beat to hell one.)
I was looking at this one : https://www.midwayusa.com/product/3357460248/archangel-opfor-adjustable-stock-m-1891-mosin-nagant-polymer-10-round-magazine

I don't need a 10 round mag (but that's not a negative thing) , and the whole thing is kinda heavy. I hunt with these guns, and sometimes take one to the range.

I'd like one I could mount a scope to, but I'd be better off taking it to a mechanistic to directly mount it to the gun.

Any suggestions?

>any suggestions
Yeah, don't do it.
A mosin will always be a mosin no matter what you do to it. All the archangel stocks and timney triggers in the world won't turn it into something it's not. It's always going to be a rough ass piece of milsurp. If you want to make a custom rifle, get something that's actually worth customizing like a Mauser. Back in the 90 dollar mosin days, I could understand why people did that shit because fuck it, why not? But since they're steadily increasing in price I'd just leave her how she is.
>>
>>34704311
Well shit, I guess I just needed someone else to say what was in the back of my mind. A new stock might make it look nice but it'll still just a moist nugget.
Also that I bought three of them for $92.88 back when and the one I wanted a stock for was a gift, so I can resell them for more than double nowadays.
>>
>>34699201
Just looking for opinions or whatever.
Would it be distasteful to put a polymer stock on my 1940 M1 Garand? It has an original stock, not a CMP one and since I've owned it (only for about 2 weeks) I've noticed I have dinged it a couple times. I am normally one not to care about small scratches and wear, but I plan on using my M1 a lot so I was thinking about getting a polymer furniture set for regular use.
>>
>>34704439
Have at it man, assuming you can find one. If anyone tells you different they're full of shot because it's not a permanent modification and the reasoning behind it is practical

Can anyone recommend some good slings for an AR? Need QD mount, can be 2 point or 2/1 point combo. Currently have a Fagpul MS4 but don't really like it.
>>
>>34703311
A 20ga is perfectly acceptable for most forms of shooting, pretty much its only shortcoming is large ducks and geese due to limited payload.

A 20ga can kick less, assuming the shotgun weighs similarly to whichever 12ga you're comparing it to, but they can also be built on smaller and lighter frames and be quite unpleasant. My first youth gun was a NEF single shot 20ga with an 18.5" fixed full choke barrel that weighs like 3.8lbs. It's more painful to shoot than my BPS 10ga, which weighs like 11lbs.
>>
>>34705287

Perhaps you should try hanging yourself with it because it is unequivocally the best AR sling on the market.

But anyway, try the BFG Vivkers or Padded. Might have to add your own qd studs to the Vickers tho.

I look online and the results I get are just the simple online quiz that meets a basic minimum of the state (VA). I have been shooting for many years so I'm not concerned about safety as much, but I do want a decent class to attend in person that covers more of the legalities.

The local gun range I do go to doesn't list any classes coming up that seem to satisfy the test requirement.
>>
>>34705569
A friend of mine has discussed something similar. I think motor oil would be too viscous and you might not be able to shoot the weapon when you need it.

He's suggested getting a PVC tube, greasing the weapon up and put it in a bag, then put it inside the tube and drop some painters desiccant pouches in too and seal it up.

My friend has never shot a gun before and needs to get a pistol for concealed carry. He has two choices, a double stack 9mm 1911 or single stack .45. >tl;dr slugs + choke = KB??
I am more than likely to going to buy some sort of shotgun in the not-too-far future. It needn't be practical or anything, so I can buy whatever I think is cool/aesthetic/pleasant/...
I'm liking the look of SxS double barrel break actions. Like, I just think they're sexy. Don't judge.
However, I'd also like to shoot slugs because they don't mess up the paper targets as much as shot would.
Now, I am told that most if not all SxS shotguns have fixed chokes.
Is that a problem?
I also heard that if I use lead slugs, the lead will (because its soft) just squish through the choke no problemo. Sounds plausible enough, but on the off chance its wrong I'd rather not try it without knowing for "sure" (as sure as this tibetan crayon drawing forum can be).

Direction and bend is largely dependent on the gun itself, but generally the nipple is a few mm wide. OD will just fit inside the percussion cap, ID is about 1.5-2 mm.

I don't know why you're asking this when you can just go get one for a few hundred bucks.

State penal code, weaponry classifications, then firearms section, and usually some subsection or another specifies which shit is/isn't allowed. If the law doesn't specifically indicate a certain thing by class or by name, legally you're free do do what you want.

Don't be a dope and go hog wild because of semantics if your state is a known asshole to 2A rights. If you frequent a particular range or LGS, they are usually more aware of laws and regulations than the average Joe.

I say "usually" because some fuddery is possible, so double check with a gunsmith, or at least more than one source after checking the state penal code and your rangemaster/LGS manager.

slugs +choke = perfectly fine
slugs + improperly installed or loose choke = kb
anyone claiming slugs ruined their shotgun is an idiot who didnt maintain their gun.
slugs deforming to fit through a choke with no problems is true
when loose theres a gap between the choke and barrel which is what fucks you or the choke is off center

So i have an AR 15 with a 16' barrel and mid gas system and i have an AR pistol (pic not mine but kind of looks like it) My question is if i should trade in my rifle for an AR10. I want a rifle that can reach out and touch a target further and harder. What do you guys think about AR10s.

The Hughes amendment (that we all hate) was attached to the Firearm Owners Protection Act, which actually allowed you free travel from state to state with firearms.

At least, that's how it SHOULD be, but don't go through NJ. Too many horror stories of out of state owners being thrown in jail for stupid shit because NJ blows.

If you're very concerned with where you're going to be, call the state police and ask them. Usually, keeping your guns in a locked case and in an "inaccessible" area of the car (like the trunk) is usually good enough.

The fixed choke could be a full choke, which would probably throw the slug a little off target, but nothing I'd worry about just shooting for funzies.
It's rumored over time and many slugs, the choke may open up a tiny bit, which may give slugs accuracy while changing your spread of shot. I haven't seen anything to prove it, but can understand why it might.

But all in all, perfectly safe. It won't harm you or the gun. Good luck picking out a sxs shotgun. You're right in that they are sexy.

I remember the time that I was sexually touched and groped by an old man and he would finger my butt while I layed still. He would also lube up my butthole and his old but big dick and would push it hard against my butthole which made me want to fart because it was that big to me when I was young and he would even let me try to put my penis in his butthole too which didn't exactly felt good. He also would give my penis a blowjob which was amazing to me and never wanted it to be stopped and he also had me suck on his penis but never did liked the precum yuck but I did it anyway and we did the 69 alot also he would french kiss me alot and our tongues would touch. This went on for quite sometime and even made it to the trailer park and I even got to watch old tapes of porn videos while we sat together naked and I even got to watch old cartoon porn which had the magical beanstock! Anyway one night while over there I was super sleepy and I fell asleep on his bed and I forgot what time it was until I was suddenly awoken by mom telling me to come home now and dad was ready to go kill the old man while mom called the police. Apparently mom came by to check on me since the old played as my babysitter and she found me on the bed laying on my belly with my butt naked and covered with lube. I never got to see the old again and he was taken to prison where he died few years later and mom had me go through psychological therapy and see a psychiatrist for several months and that was also the time we had moved away from the place where I was molested.

I still live in the same state which is Arkansas and this was back in the early 2000 or something I don't remember.

Hi.
First, I'm going to refer you to calguns.net for legal stuff. Handguns there need to meet specific qualifications and then the companies need to pay to be on the "approved roster" to be lawful sold there.
Second, if you're not going to CC it there is less than zero reason to not get a full-size duty pistol. You will get more velocity (longer barrel means more time for the bullet to accelerate), a longer sight-radius (easier to aim accurately), less recoil and the ability to mount a light on it (which you should absolutely do on a home defense weapon).
>I don't want the gf to flip
Take a firearm safety course together. Ignorance makes no one safe.
Handguns are already a compromise. Don't compromise further on it if you don't need to.

I guess I just felt like confessing about my history when I was young.

I also remember the time how when I got off the schoolbus and walked home and saw my father screaming and beating on my mother and he punched a wall while screaming at how he hates her guts and she is a lousy bitch which me and mom retrested outside and I told her to call 911 and watched my dad get carried in handcuffs.

He also tried committing suicide several times and was an avid drug user and even sold some of my video games and my xbox which pissed my mom off and my mom went to troubl of trying to find out who had my xbox and marched over and got my xbox back which all of this happened while I was in school when I was young. I also remember when some time went by and I was in jr high school or high school I don't remember but anyway how my father got back and was in home with me while mom had to work to bring money and food to the table and I was in my room playing halo 3 when he came up and asked to use my phone (it was a sprint flipphone which I use to call mom when I need her or wanted to just talk) and I told him no. He got very upset and was yelling at my face and was very angry and kept demanding until he stormed off and slammed my door shut which I just went back to playing my video game trying to hide my emotions and my fear until mom returned home and told her what happened. I never had friends over because of how I didn't feel comfortable about having friends over.

I'm sorry I just feel like I need to confess and omeone to talk to.

it is the smaller the gun the harder it is to shoot or learn to shoot on

You'll want to get a picture perpendicular to the bore. You won't be able to tell if it is no longer circular from that angle.
The reason the crowns on old milsurp rifles like that are sometimes fucked is because of how they were cleaned. Using a cleaning rod from the muzzle end can cause damage. Additionally, there are many cases in WW1 and 2 where they'd be stuck in a situation where they have to clean their rifle but didn't HAVE a cleaning rod, so they would run a boot lace through the bore, tie a knot in it, soak the thing in oil and then pull that through as many times as necessary. Unfortunately, the particles inside the barrel worked as an abrasive and, since they were pretty much guaranteed to not be pulling directly in line with the bore, it would rub on the edge of the crown.
The only way to correct this is to either cut the barrel down and recrown it or to cut a counterbore. Pic related is what a counterbored barrel looks like.

Can't really say or remember since my life wasn't very easy to say sorry. The only one I ever talked to the most was the school psychiatrist in highschool that was an actual real friend to me which helped me get through school since I was very agitated and angry alot and I would get easily upset and very stressed alot. I miss him alot because he had family issues such as marriage problems and his drug issues that he tried to break away and he ended up breaking down and felt very bad that he decided to sign the papers that would allow his wife to have full custody of the kids when the wife just wanted the family and relationship to be back to normal but he felt severe guilt and well he was going through a tough time and went away and had himself committed into rehab. He was a very good man and he helped me with my stress and issues in school and so did mom on how she helped me and even got me saved from this one girl in school that was trying to get me in trouble since ahe claimed I staired at her and touched her when I didn't and I was even taking into the speech office and they had these papers and wanted me to sign them but it would mean that I would admit I did those things and it would register me as a sex offender or something but it was very bad so I ran out and called mom and mom got very mad and threatened to sue the school and everything which thankfully they dropped everything and they made sure to keep the girl away from me and fired the teacher that sided with the girl to begin with but this made me not like girls alot in school and made me feel resentful towards them but I don't hate all women. Anyway I got offtrack sorry again my psychiatrist friend moved to alaska and he had an easy life until the fateful day that he took his own life and me and mom got the news and his last call to my mom before he got off was to tell her to tell me how proud he is of me and he hopes I make it in life.

I really don't like people so much I mean it's not that I'm some edgy mean person though I'm just not comfortable around people anymore and don't like to deal with people because of so many things in my past.

I remember my old tomcat that I had since I was a young child and how me and mom saved the small cat from the cold weather and how at the trailer park when I was around twelve or something how my old cat was murdered by one of my dad's old friend few trailers by because my mom told him to stop coming around and did not want him near us anymore since dad got drugs from this guy so the guy got mad at mom and took my cat and threw him onto an oncoming car while I was in school.

I miss my cat so much...

I want to put on a more durable finish on my USP - something like NP3 maybe. My problem is that I don't want to cover over the serial and logo on the slide. Could someone just run the slide through a laser engraving machine and "retrace" the serial number, proof marks, and HK logo?

Even if I wanted to just have a plain slide with only the 'USP' and caliber rollmarks, is it technically legal to get them bead blasted off during the coating application?

you dont have to blame the world or yourself if you practice a more active, holistic engagement with the world

standing up for yourself when you need to be strong, letting people do what they do and accepting when you know you are strong and dont need to be. you dont always need to not feel. i know how it feels, but you do feel things you just arent letting yourself feel them: you dont have to do it all at once but you can feel a few things slowly and let them have a slow burn and then maybe "hating" wont be hating anymore because i genuinely dont believe someone who has dealt with so much can really hate anyone who is good. people out there have been in the same place and they suffered the same fallout and youre definitely not alone in having a hard time. if you can at least relate to people on a level of shared suffering, you can feel sad for them and feel sad for yourself in a much more positive way than beating yourself down, isolating, and losing to the darkness that crept up in your life

ill pray for you, and i dont mean it in a condescending way. i really hope you can move on especially having gotten it out there so people know and remember that what happened was real, not just you knowing it. good people deserve to heal the wounds of the terror evil people can inflict. they deserve redemption, unlike the people who do harm without conscience

my dad when I was at the trailer park encouraged me to kill this one possum that was snooping around our place and he hit the possum with the baseball bat and he handed the bat to me and had me hit the possum and not let me go until I killed the possum and sick as this sound it made me laugh historically and i bashed the possum 30 times and even remember the "dings" it made on the possum which made my father happy but sfterthat it made me feel like shit for three days straight until i got over it and there was another time how we had this one female cat that had given three kittens but the kittens were dying due to maggots eating their insides and they where crawling out from the buttholes and mom was out in her work and it was up to dad to kill the kittens to out them out of their misery but instead he made me do that.

He told me to do it and that he would tell mom that he did it himself so that "i would not be in trouble" which in time i told her about this and she was very mad at my dad but anyway i carried the kittens out and there was a rock and i hated to do this because i love kittens so i hit the kitten in the head and it cried so loud it made me cry but i tried to hit the kittens in the head as hard as i could but i fucked up and didn't kill them in the first blow so i went to the trashcan and took the three barely conscious dying kittens and took a large log and slammed it on top of them and went inside in tears.

The one of the kitten still cried utnil it cried no more while I was inside my room crying and the reaso I was able to hear the kitten was because the trashcan outside was nearby the wall that was my room.

I did not like that experience at all and neither did I liked the constant roaches, ants and fleas in that trailer house and it was several years until we had enough to move (it took a long time because my mom was the only one that worked and actually tried to keep the rent and food on the table while my dad just didn't care)

Suppressors do cause back pressure. The way it functions is by allowing the gas expand longer as it exits the barrel, giving it room and time to slow down. If your firearm is gas operated, this means that the gas port will have pressure much longer than normal.

You can't exit bag any more, helium shortage and proliferation of exit bags as a common method of suicide means all helium tanks are 20% oxygen. Suffocating by exhaust has too many points of failure. Give me more credit than that, the only suicide method that has 95+% chance of success is suicide by shotgun.

They can't medically rescue you if your heart is obliterated.

>>34724711
Statistics show head is best, but both are above 95% if you use a shotgun. The fact is that 00 buckshot will make such a mess of you that you don't need surgical precision. As long as you know to not aim at your eye nerves you will be beyond saving almost immediately.

So don't use helium, use any other noble gas or possibly some non-noble gasses. Or you could read the label, unless something popped up in the past year when I wasn't looking there's nothing forcing manufacturers to add oxygen, it's still entirely possible to find pure helium tanks.
>>
>>34724847
Have you tried or are you just telling me to look again? As far as non-Noble gases, I don't want to be your science experiment to see how painful suffocation can be just so I don't shoot myself.
>>
>>34724711
I'm gonna go out on all four limbs here and say that isn't a human torso, it's an art piece.

But whatever really, blow your brain all over the room and you're gone. Doesn't matter what they do with the rest of the body, that holds neither sentience nor sapience.
>>
>>34724847
Noble gasses tend to be used specifically to prevent oxidation, so adding 20% oxygen to them... nah. Doing so without labelling shit would also be extremely dangerous, since the things you want to keep oxygen away from can often be either food intended for human consumption or shit that might erupt in ravenous flame if it gets some oxygen.

Lawsuits from next of kin after someone intentionally misused your product to kill himself may be nasty. Lawsuits from next of kin after your intentionally mislabelled your product killed someone will be nastier.
>>
>>34724899
Exit bags are still an entirely valid method but people tend to get very defeatist when they hear the helium tanks MIGHT have oxygen in them. If somehow Google fails you and you can't find pure helium at a party store or other place that might sell balloon stuff, try pure nitrogen. This is very common in welding supply stores and in automotive shops since people think filling tires with nitrogen increases gas mileage. It doesn't, but that's irrelevant and it gives you a good excuse as to why you're buying the tank if someone asks. Course, you can always shoot yourself, that's fine too but whatever floats your boat.
>>
>>34724904
they can actually put your brain in a mechanical box and have wites hooped up and shit to your damaged body in order to keep you 'alive' if your head or the rest of your body has sustained severe damage.

Can someone recommend me a lightweight semi-auto rifle for home defense? i dont have enough money to get several guns, and i absolutely need to have a rifle due to that being what i like.

the catch is i live in connecticut, so any centerfire rifle can not have *both* a removable magazine and a pistol grip (it can have one or the other, just not both). rimfire are not restricted in this way, but would any rimfire really be good for defense?

the last requirement is that it needs to be price competitive with an sks or custom 10/22, as that is what ive found so far to be the most suitable. so i guess a budget of 500usd. sks is nice but i want something i have the option of mounting a scope for the range.
>>
>>34728046
A 10/22 will do you just fine. No human is going to get shot with several .22s and not be incapacitated or fleeing if he can. Plus, you can get massive mags for it.
>>
Does anyone have more emotional crippling fucked up history?
>>
>>34728483
>Plus, you can get massive mags for it.
not legally in connecticut. 10rds max

:(

but since its rimfire its allowed to have pistol grip, which is nice. I would also be allowed to have a pistol grip on a fixed mag gun like an sks, but I think if I got an SKS I would not want to modify it like that

Red pill me on the mini 14
I've been told they were made obsolete by the AR, but there has to be a demand for them or else they would be cheaper right?

Are they good range guns?
Home defense guns?
Fun to shoot?
Worth the price?

Also what are some good "non tactical" semi auto.223s. I live in a liberal state and anything that is black with more than one mount rail is to spooky to own
>>
How much could I get for selling a barely used 9mm Shield (if around 300+ rounds is barely used)?
>>
>>34728977
>but there has to be a demand for them or else they would be cheaper right?
that's half of the economic equation the other half would be supply. Ruger might not make a ton of them because there's not much demand for them outside of places like ban states or among fudds who refuse to buy anything that's too tactical

they're fine guns but the ar15 is undoubtedly a more functional weapon for the price. hate to break it to you but .223 is a "tactical" round, the mini14 is your best bet. otherwise look into other calibres
>>
>>34728993
do an armslist search in your state to gauge price
>>
>>34728912
I noticed I didnt explain very well; the gun will primarily be used for target shooting at a range. however, i want something that would also be suitable for home defense
>>
>>34728977
>but there has to be a demand for them or else they would be cheaper right?
In Connecticut and perhaps other states, they are highly desirable due to being a semi-automatic rifle that shoots a good round *without* a pistol grip

If you want a semi-auto center-fire rifle in CT, you have very few choices.
>>
>>34729051
Would an AR be out of the question? Ruger/M&P models can be had for <$500 on sale and can be upgraded piecemeal as you save more cash. 10 round mags are cheap and plentiful and if you're only limited to them I'd rather have an actual centerfire round rather than .22 lr. I'm not familiar with CT laws (is their an AWB?) but there's already cali and new york compliant AR's

Price wise it's a steal.

OTOH, MINI-14 are known for breakages and WILDL inaccurate shooting. Garbage Sticks, as it were.

There are things to be upgraded and specs to be established before its a real decent shooter. I say this knowing that my friends .300 Mini with supressor is MAX fun, and I would buy for the caliber and asthetics alone.
