Also why do you think Ironwood will de-laminate?
Is there an issue with their lamination?
Post proofs pls.
>>
>>34552105
>Also why do you think Ironwood will de-laminate?
>Is there an issue with their lamination?
The issue isn't specifically with Ironwood designs, it's that any laminate furniture, if not well reinforced, will delaminate with extensive abuse and use without those pin that you see in surplus laminate AK furniture.
>>
>>34552164
Hmm.
Again, any proof of this.
Lamination processes and techniques have come a long way since the 50s and 70s, respectively.
And even then they weren't necessarily for fighting "de-lamination" as much as they were for abuse, but I guess it could be seen as the same thing.
I'm genuinely curious now.

>>34553121
One local place is only like 10 minutes away and in the middle of farmland, and they only allow pistols now because retards shooting rifles would shoot over the berm all the time into neighboring properties and the owners got sick of that so they made it so you've got to be a member to shoot rifles, which I am not so only pistols and 25 yard rimfire range there for the public

Another local range about 40 minutes away only allows brass ammo and the only rifle calibers they allow is 5.56, .30 Carbine, and brass 7.62x39 because they also run a reloading facility to remanufacture ammo and sell it and those are the only rifle calibers they reload. It's not really worth going here to shoot because I can just drive an extra 30 minutes and shoot out in the mountains

tl:dr retards, different kinds of retards but retards nonetheless

SLR104fr and Type 56
>>
>>34553570
Ah, 104, I assume fr is referring to the skeletal stock instead of the polymer one that usually comes on the AK104? As for Type 56, close enough, it's an AKM variant. Where's the bayonet though? I thought Type 56s came with a bayonet fixed to the barrel a la the SKS/other Type 56.

>>34553596
The SLR104 is the model, fr designates a folding stock (f) and side rail (r). They're much more common with the polymer sidefolder, but that one is a factory triangle stock. I've got both stocks for it though. The Type 56 is less of a true AKM variant and more of a stamped AK47. Not all have the spike bayonet, this one just has normal bayonet lugs

>>34553605
The Bulgarian SLR series' number designations are unrelated to the Russian 100 series rifles

>>
>>34554361
I don't remember if I've asked you this before but when and where did you get your 87 kit and how much did you pay for it? Do you know if there are any later than 88 74 kits in the country?
>>
>>34554458
The 87 kits came mixed in with the 88 kits. Some of the 87 marked trunnion kits actually were made in 1988 and just used leftover forgings from the very end of 1987. Depending on the serial number you can verify if it was actually made in 87.

Almost all the 87 kits were taken from the rest and sold by a gunbroker seller who went by drpepper2. He denied affiliation with Rguns but he was selling from Illinois and it was obvious he was working with Rguns to get the better values on some of the more unique kits that got mixed in. I bought mine on auction for I think $750. I figured if I ever fulfilled my dream of having one fixed and one folder, it would be way more interesting to have them from different years.

What really sucks is that all the non-serialized parts are just randos. Only the serialized parts are "guaranteed" to have belonged together, and even then there's a chance that it's from a different rifle with the same last three digits on the serial number.

To my knowledge no 89 kits were mixed in, and no real (non-deact) kits exist any later than the 88's from Russia.

Also interesting: a very small number of Tula AKSU kits from 1985 were mixed in with the 86 kits. Now that's a rare bird.
>>
>>34554509
>I figured if I ever fulfilled my dream of having one fixed and one folder

You see, I have this dream. I've got my folder, but I don't want to spend $620 for the kit, wait up to 2 years for a single receiver, have to buy a Bulgy barrel and then spend $700+ to get it built correctly, which could take months.

I want Arsenal of Bulgaria to just start making slr-105s again so I can worry about where I'm going to buy the 50 or so mags I need to feel safe with a 5.45 rifle before I start seriously buying the ammo.
>>
>>34554509

>>34554074

>>
>>34554551
I just don't want Rguns to run out and then the kits go to $1000 overnight

>>34554577
Like, that you can call in and buy? Because I don't think they've ever had 87 kits listed on their website
>>
>>34554509
Is yours an actual 87 kit or one of the leftover forgings? $750 isn't bad at all for that, and I get what you're saying about different years for fixed and folding

That's kind of why I was asking about later than 88, it'd be cool to find an 89 and either have it built as a folder or go full Ukie and do some sort of weird upgraded to 74m thing with it. Two 88s just kind of seems redundant for me, even if they're built differently. I'd want different years just for the sake of having different years. I'm sure if I dig around enough I could find an 87 kit but honestly for me 88 and onward are the most interesting, I want something as close to the end of production as I can get and these 88 kits just so happen to be the easiest available kit and also as close to the end as I was aware of at the time that we can get so it played out perfectly

I've read and seen too many deact horror stories to risk it, unless I knew someone who was genuinely trustworthy over there and could get their hands on very specific and correct kits but then again that's money I don't want to spend. I sure would love to get my hands on as late production 74 kit as I could get though, that'd be really cool
>>
>>34554673
There were some a couple weeks ago but I don't see them listed now, they could have sold out. Also have 68 matching hg kits for $800
>>
>>34554689
According to Tantal it's actually one of the earliest serial numbers he's seen from the 87 kits (not 1987 rifles in general, just the Rguns kits) and is in fact a late 87 trunnion. Plus I got the milled gas tube lever which is nice.

Deact kits are a crapshoot, my first one from my trusted compatriot in Germany worked out perfectly, my RPK-74M however is less than satisfactory but fortunately it was not awfully expensive and I do have the parts I need. Most of them...
>>
>>34554816
If you had to give it a number (if you know), about what percent of the Rguns kits were 87s? Do you happen to know serial number ranges by year?

One of the worst one I've seen recently is one anon here bought an "AK74m" deact that was like half AKM parts, your RPK is like you said less than satisfactory but at least you don't need to really go out of your way to get what you do need, that poor anon with his "74m" kit got royally screwed and there's not much he can do about it other than source like half of his kit

I'm just too cautious about deacts, having to deal with not only customs but also potentially not getting what you're expecting or having stuff missing just isn't something I feel that comfortable risking

I have been outside the AK market for some time, and from what I can tell it looks like prices are coming down lately. I want to buy one, but I dont really know what brand is good or what prices are good now (with changing materials and such because production methods) My LGS has a deal where I could probably get 100$ off. But i dont know what pricing they have, or availability. Is a WASR worth the 450$ (probably the only type they have) or should I try to find someplace to get a better deal. Keep in mind they dont do internet gun sales (you cant use them as an FFL). Another one might be able to get online sale guns, but they are an hour away, and I dont know if they are dicks, because all the AKS they had listed on their store page were 600-1500

I dont know if i should just hol on to my money or go buy one

It's going to have the company logo on the rifle.

I get that a lot of people wouldn't like that, but it's part of the "show" that's put on at the conference.
Everything is going to be plastered with the brand; just how it has to be.

>>34552398
aye
>welded
You know the traditional method of attachment is to file relief cuts in the barrel for the bolts and just torque it down, right?

If you weld you won't be able to clean/oil under the shield, and it may alter the grain of the metal in the barrel (temper/anneal) which could put it at risk for a kb. Depends on the process.
>>
>>34555506
For the rifle I'd say 800-900 by itself. They aren't that desirable, combloc countries can't into .223 pattern. If the mags are (10) or (21) those are 35-40 used.
>>
>>34556266
pretty much yes, although my uncle said he'd take my guns for that period of time. which is 5 five years for civilians, but the authorities see it for ever.

no rape, battery/assault
>>
>>34556239
imo:
hand engraving > stamping/rolling/machine engraving > laser engraving > dot matrix marking (lol)

you can make laser engraving have more depth with repeated passes. it can actually look pretty good if you program it well, but it's still completely obvious which method was used and laser typically has the least character

can you mock up in paint what your basic concept looks like? make a generic logo just so we can see how it looks.

I had a yugo df made in 2015 and it had issues, axis pins began to enlarge. So far later years seem to be fine. I think century extended their rebate till Aug so it may be worth a chance. Worst case sell it for what you paid and you'll be $50 closer to a wasr/slr R rifle.

Can someone explain bolt carrier peening? What makes it happen, and why is it bad? Both of my WASRs have it a little bit.
>>
>>34556266
Sounds similar to domestic violence here in the states. Just getting live is enough for a charge, at the very least someone is taking a ride to the tank
>>
>>34556329
It just means the hammer is harder then the carrier. Not an issue if it's a small amount. If it gets bad the carrier can hang up under the spring button while firing.
>>
>>34556329
Minimal amount of peen is normal, like just enough to catch your fingernail on.

>>34556372
Is there any way to fix the carrier tail so it doesn't progress?
>>
>>34556329
difference in hardness between interfacing metals

eventually it can cause parts to become out of spec. there's no particular failure associated with the tang of the bolt carrier peening but it is a sign of improper or mismatched heat treating/hardness elsewhere in the rifle

it's not uncommon to see it with aftermarket triggers (hammers) that are significantly harder than the rifle was built to deal with. many people experience peening with the ALG AKT series.

if you have an especially poorly made rifle such as an IO you may also find the bolt carrier peening because it slams into the rear trunnion (and the trunnion is harder). as a stopgap measure of dealing with this, these rifles ship with recoil buffers. it may be mitigated with a heavier recoil spring
>>
>>34556400
you can try a surplus trigger as opposed to the tapco G2. there's no universal spec for component hardness in AKs so it varies make to make. bulgarian arsenals are found to be harder and peen less with an ALG AKT

No man, they haven't. They're still shit. Don't settle for shit. Buy a WASR if you want to go cheap. Avoid 'murican AK's.
>>
>>34560130
atlantic firearms seems like a decent price, but ive heard awful things about Century Arms. century just imports the WASRs they dont fuck them up or anything right. can anyone attest to this.

I read the pastebin and it seems arsenal would be the next best choice but it is double my price range. is the quality of an arsenal really worth the wait or should i go with just a wast.
>>
>>34560192
*WASR
not a wast
>>
>>34560192
I have both man. The WASR just works and the only thing century does to it is open up the mag well. However, my arsenal is a better built and higher quality rifle. Feel free to ask me questions man. I can provide pics if you want.
>>
>>34560192
They fuck them up by opening up the mag well and leaving all the metal shavings in it. I'm still cleaning them out of nooks and crannies.
>>
>>34560211
i have a couple of questions.

Both the Arsenal and WASR are forged not cast right?
When you say they open up the mag do you mean clear the rile before they ship it or something else?
How would you say the accuracy compares between the two rifles?
Also when you say the Arsenal is a higher quality rifle is that in terms of tightness of the build, recoil, maintenance over time or wearing of the gun, and cleaning the gun (does one get more dirty quicker than the other?)
>>
>>34560301
They are made to accept 10 round mags, they open up the mag wells and dremel out the stuff that lets it only accept the 10 rnd.
>>
>>34560315
were they made that way because of some european law or what
>>

20170707_122711.jpg
3MB, 4032x3024px
why?
>>
>>34560301
Yes, both rifles are made using proper metals and parts. Accuracy is not really comparable because my arsenal is a 5.45 rifle so it lends itself to be more accurate, however the WASR can easily hit steel at 100 yards. The arsenal is a smoother and tighter gun than the WASR. I don't really worry about how dirty they get. They're both shooting cheap and dirty steel cased ammo.

>>34560357
Pretty much for importation purposes. Look up what WASR stands for.

thanks, i looked it up waassennar, basically legal arms trade seems to be similar to california's magazine bans between these countries.

what would you say the trigger weight is n the WASR. I could always buy a looser or tighter trigger but i'm on a tight budget currently and would like to buy a out of the box and ready to go rifle.

The triggers that century installs into the WASR isn't bad at all. It's a nice and crisp trigger, I have an ALG AKT in the arsenal that I absolutely recommend at ~$50. It's very easy to double tap and it'll spook you if you're not careful.

looks really nice i have these two bullets that i sometimes carry in my pockets and they got all smooth and shiny from it. reminded me of your finish.

>>34560445
im not looking for a 5.45 because ive read in past threads the price has gone up and it just doesnt seem worth it with being im looking for something cheap to shoot. seems like a great round but the surp game is as it is.

one other question: How does cleaning a chromed barrel work out if it is just chrome line does it flake off over time and if i clean it too hard will it malform (because isnt chrome a softish metal?)

That's a pleasant relief.

How would you say the WASR feels shooting: loose or the pieces feel solidly put together.
>>
>>34560599
She's fun as hell to shoot man. 7.62x39 kicks hard enough to enjoy it. And like I mentioned before, she'll ring steel at 100 yards all day long. I don't doubt that these rifles will outlive me.
