Nah pretty sure the drop in magpul is going to be the final furniture for this rifle. If I am going free float I'll just build it from scratch with a bigger budget in mind. This is my very first rifle so I went in on a budget to see if I was going to like it. That light is probably going to need to go. Noticed it stopped working for a moment after about 70 rounds.

I guess I technically have 1 outdoors photo of the day after I got it.

Suppressors will help. At $500 per suppressor, and maybe 1-2 million people nationwide buying at least one over the course of the first or second year, we are looking at a half billion to billion dollar business, in the first year.

For a moment I was trying to figure out how in the every living mother fucker you converted your rifle to accept a horizontal magazine feed. What were the benefits of using such a system over vertical insertion. Would it be sufficiently sturdy to use as leverage point if you had to pull your rifle from the mud. Then it hit me I am a godamn moron.

They were great 10 years ago, but optics technology advances quickly. Modern lower powered variable optics (LVPO) with true 1X are hard to beat.

The shit from Steiner, Leupold, Vortex etc. Vortex Razor HD2 has the best 1X red dot... basically Aimpoint level clarity and ease of use. Too bad the scope itself is 24 ounces.

Like Giddy noted, you do get zero shifts with magnifiers too. In fact, you can get zero shifts with bad eye pro/goggles. Anything you put between your eye and the sight/target can cause shifts. It's basic science but it blew my mind when I first considered, and measured it.

At the higher level of precision rifle shooting with high precision and long ranges, the angle of the sun can also produce POI shifts.

Oh I knew what it was just not the name. I tried one at sportsmans earlier and it wasn't so bad. I was primarily worried about the magnifier making the Eotech holo blow up and look all fuzzy, which it didn't, and the magnifier when set to the side will hide a lot from your field of view, which I believe

Save money anon. At the absolute cheapest, you can probably get a plinker for $450 soon: the market is flooded with desperate distributors offloading shit onto dealers... who will probably need to offload it too.

It's all the cheap shit. A decent AR is still $900 at the very least, before optics.
>>
>>34486486
If thats all you can spend, you probably shouldnt be getting an AR, or any gun for that matter. Use that money to get your finances straight so you an afford a decent gun.
>>
>>34486443
So you literally have zero income, and you want to buy a gun. You know guns are pretty useless without ammo, and ammo is a consumable. It even has a shelf life if you were thinking of getting some and not using it.

I liked the Magpul short throws but they got discontinued for some reason. My guess is lawyers... and why the Battle Arms Development ones have "lawyer inserts" that require their short throws go on their specific lowers.

I have a bunch of Radian/AXTS "Talon" short throws and like em, no real re-learning needed if you're competent with standard safeties.

Yeah, I really liked the 60* throw on my old SIG 556, but that was a different rifle. I have so much muscle memory/experience with an AR that I get a little tickle/red flag in the back of my neck when the safety lever only goes half way, like I have some kind of malfunction.

>weight goals
Didn't think about that either. I'd just be happy if it was lighter than my AK
>my dream ak being out of production
I had my heart set on buying an SLR-104 for about a year and I found out a few days ago that they aren't sold currently because no one wanted them

Have any guides on building? I know the AK platform well and that they are vaguly similar but the AR seems to have many more moving parts as well as a few extra bells and whistles
>>
>>34486653

Nah, I don't want to blow $40 each on 6 ARs to replace parts that are perfectly functional.

I actually needed a new selector lever when I got this one--I got an Anderson LPK and the selector should have never made it through QA; it was warped and all fucked up. There's no way to buy JUST a selector lever at most gun stores, you have to get something a little more gucci, so I decided to try the 60* throw.
>>
>>34486679

And the nice thing about the Seekins is that you can configure it for 60* or 90* so I can test drive it for a little while until I make up my mind.

All my employees are AK nerds, even though I run an AR centric store, lol. Have had to learn about the AK out necessity, with homebuilt, Rifle Dynamics, and Snake Hound guns.

Your requires are pretty easy. Get a decent barrel, ie, first run FNH cold hammer forged barrel (Centurion Arms or FNH branded) and a lightweight free float rail system. SLR, Geissele Mk14, Noveske, BCM, whatever.

For 600 yard hits on human sized targets you need at least 4X magnification to be on par. You can easily do it with irons, but it's definitely a lot harder and requires solid as fuck rifle fundamentals. Dunnow. I once went to a long range shoot at an Oregon wind farm with a 14.5" AR with a 4MOA T1 and made hits at 400 consistently and easily with the right ammo.

Best part of AR ownership is you can buy/sell/trade parts easily if you think something doesn't work for you or if you want something better.
>>
>>34486673
>I'd like to keep it under a grand if possible, but being an AK man at heart I'm willing to pay more for parts that can take a beating.
Grand sans optics will get you a decently solid setup. Right off the bat I would suggest a 16" middy upper from BCM with a free float rail of your choice. BCM BCG would probably also fit into your budget and be foolproof. When it comes to lowers you are paying for rollmark, just dont buy a polymer lower. Spend rest of budget on the small individual choice items (stock, grip, etc)
>600 yd
5.56 is pretty shit at 600yd. I was looking for what you were going for optic wise with this question (dot vs magnified vs irons)
>Didn't think about that either. I'd just be happy if it was lighter than my AK
What AK

>Have any guides on building?
Just pop to youtube and search it there. You dont really need any special tools aside from a castle nut wrench and torque wrench to do a complete build. If you buy a complete upper you basically just need a castle nut wrench and assorted hand tools to build a complete lower
>>
>>34486714

I don't live in a very gun friendly area, so most of the gun stores here only carry the basics. I was fortunate to find a selector lever in stock.

As the shooter its not too bad, unless you are prone. It digs about a 4-6" hole through the course of a single mag. Might be good for digging fighting positions in the future.

People around it want to die and usually run away after getting a nose bleed or similar disruption.

Hmm, I guess girls can shoot too. I wish my little brothers were more into shooting. Shame my dad got tired of it after he got me into it.

>>34487660
The bottom line friendo is that ARs at their cheapest were $850 just 8 years ago, and that was for a piece of shit Bushmaster that would jam all the time.

Considering that you can have a good to go rifle these days for $500, they have certainly gotten better.

70k, making payments on everything, you still should be able to squirrel away some money for fun stuff. Is it the financially responsible thing to do? Of course not, but arguably any spending on "fun" isn't financially responsible.

Because its more responsible to never do anything fun and blow off steam, and eventually end up beating the shit out of your wife and kids or snapping abd driving yourself and family off a cliff.

There's a reason almost all employers in the US pay employees to take breaks, and accrue paid vacation you know?

Scope recomendations for a DMR setup? Was going to get a Trijicon ACOG but not sure anymore, might want something with a variable. Needs to be aesthetic and reliable. 20" barrel. Can Trijicon ACOG's be adjusted for use with a 20"? They all seem to say 16".

Well, budget matters a lot. How about something around the 2.5-10x range. Check out Vortex's offerings, and also check out Nightforce's offerings.

I live in a cuck state where we can only have 10 round mags (so you're looking at a crimped 20 round) and have to spend like $1500+ on a pre ban if we want an AR that isn't ridiculously limited.
