my current deficiencies is that there's a lot of stuff in my kit that I don't post because it's issued kit. I don't post it because it's all ucp and fucking ugly, plus when I get out I may not have access to it.

>helmet
>ruck
>assault pack

those are my current high priority items, but not in order
probably a sohah maritime cut
probably a hellcat ruck
probably small day pack like the flatpack, because id rather just have a small ruck than a 3 day assault pack.

riggers belt is a single stiff belt

a gunfighter is a velcro inner that rides inside your pants loops and a molle or just load bearing outside your loops
>>
>>34317347
Ok in the short term, but you can just have a shit ton of shotgun cards on a velcro plane (like the brig). That way when the elastic wears out you just swap the card. You can also rip them off and slap them on the gun.

Watched GT's video,
One thing to note on KYWI is that the velcro attaching the kydex to the pouch is basic bitch adhesive, not sewn in. It will shunt out and betray you if you slam a mag in there too hard.
Easily fixed by looping some 550 chord underneath but it is something of note.

The only rationale I can understand for Steel is that they're genuinely multihit.

If you aren't expecting the possibility for replacement, the steel could theoretically outlast ceramics.

That said, if you can't get replacements and you have already taken 6 hits from AP rounds, you're probably already dead from a gunshot that didn't hit armor.

Do you do much ambidextrous shooting or know about it? I have an ambidextrous shooting question.

I am right hand right eye dominant, and I shoot right handed with both eyes open when using my red dot. When I transition to shooting left handed, I transition faster and get the dot on target faster if I close my right (dominant) eye. If I transition to left handed and try get the dot on target while keeping both eyes open, I invariably lose the dot. Would you suggest continuing to drill shooting left handed with my right eye closed, trying to shoot both eyes open on both sides , or possibly something else?

Thanks

Keep practicing it brother. Ultimately I'd say keep both eyes open for that situational awareness but if you gotta close a eye, you gotta close a eye.

I typically don't have a problem because often times my right eye is covered by the barricade, corner of the wall etc etc so my left eye picks up the dot.

Bino for literally every other scenario, if you ever leave urban, go bino. IE, everyone uses bino.

The market is pretty sparse when it comes to holsters for suppressed pistols.

I like the Crye gun clip in theory, but they need to make a model compatible with Safariland mounts/drop platforms.

So far the Surefire seems to be the best of all the limited options.

It's making a lot of compromises, but it's about the only game in town right now that can accommodate a light and a suppressor.

I've been using the ATS war belt for about a year now. I like it, but I'm seriously considering building a second belt rig out of the HSGI Sure Grip padded belt. HSGI also has tons of belt options

Ronin Tactics and AWS both have some pretty solid "utility" style belt setups if you don't want to go the whole battle belt route.

I wasn't aware that TRex Arms made a battle belt. Looks cool.

The page on TRex's site describes all of the features pretty well and there's more detailed pics. I want to hold out for one of them, but am worried they'll never come back in stock at this point.

>>34321446
Sorry, I should have been more clear.
I don't think I'd need a plate carrier anytime soon because I don't expect to get hit with rifle rounds or even be in a situation where that's a possibility.
>>
>>34321476
then why do you need any body armor at all?
>>
>>34321409
So why are you even thinking about armor if you aren't ever around guns? What do you do when you go to the range, watch from your car?
>>
>>34321535
>>34321545
Soft armor is for pistol rounds, right?
I was talking specifically about rifle rounds. I don't see a situation where that'd happen.
>>
>>34321593
we are just curious why you think you will encounter hostile pistol threats but not rifles? rifle plates will stop pistol rounds too.
are you planning on wearing the pistol threat body armor for long periods of time or concealed? are you looking for coverage or are you going to get front and back plates in a pistol caliber rating?
>>
>>34321619
It looks as though the soft armor covers more area and is more concealable.
If I were to get plates, which I might eventually do, I'd get level IIIa or IV, I just wouldn't use the plates really ever unless I went to a class, trained, or life took an extremely wrong turn.
>>
>>34321663
so you just want a bullet proof vest you can wear so dindus don't shoot you in the back.

you should look into police trade is and shit like that. concealable soft body armor can be expensive but there are some good deals out there.
>>
Doctrinally, what use does a PC have for a civilian?

At what point does the PC come out of the closet and on your person and what do you do with it?
>>
>>34321704
For home defense in a situation where i hear a suspicious sound it goes on while i go investigate with rifle in hand. If it's clear someone is in my house, it's time to barricade myself in and call the cops, and if i wasn't already wearing the carrier it goes on at that point.

if there's unrest or looting in the streets it may go on while bugging in.

>>
>>34321749
okay wow, yeah you need soft armor its a question of lvl ii vs iia. there's other ratings but those are the most popular. I'd go with ii, it's lighter and thinner, therefore easier to hide and more comfortable to wear, and you only lose protection against certain hot pistol rounds (.44 magnum) and certain shotgun loads). ii is what cops wear under their uniforms. if you get soft armor carrier now, you can get a plate carrier that carriers just plates later. you could wear the two carriers together or separate to meet threats, sof did that a lot in the mid early 2000s before mbav cuts and minimalist pcs took over the market
>>
>>34321786
it's used, if it has a certification on the armor then it will stop bullets.

not true with most depts. Usually the issued "concealable" vest patrol cops wear is IIIA (quotation marks because that shit isn't even close to concealed).

I'm super interested in this.

The achilles heel of 'low profile' seems to be carrying a rifle. I can't convincingly hide either of my SBRs under a jacket even two sizes up. Hydration might look funny too, although a normie-shaped backpack could help there.

Best you can do is a 10/22 takedown loaded with those yellow jackets or whatever they're called. They will easily take down a man (I've killeda deer with one I know I'm. An asshole). frankly i wouldn't want to be assembling an AR15 under fire. might be worth practicing but it's really not likely that a situation is going to arise where that is relevant. Most of the time it's going to be a problem you can solve with your pistol.

i see the low profile rifle setup as being more useful in defending a static position without drawing attention. (think getting ready to repel looters or a mob). You can sit by the window with your plates on with your rifle under the windowsill.

Kinda at a loss.

After a recent gun purchase, and a look into what I actually needed to go innawoods for an extended period of time, I haven't had many funds for my gear.

If we're speaking strictly minimalist, while also taking into account I don't need a sidearm, all I really need on this PC is an IFAK, right?

I don't really envision myself ever needing more than 120 rounds in a fight under any circumstances, so more Mags is kinda futile.

I already have a pretty extensive IFAK on my pack, but the second I get into contact that fucker is coming off because it's heavy and unwieldy.

So other than an IFAK, what else would you guys recommend goes on my PC?

Try opening it slowly while you focus on the red dot. The more you do this you wont need to close the eye anymore to acquire the dot. Being able to shoot well right and left handed is really really useful. Its fun to relearn all of the fundamentals and gain new muscle memory with a whole new hand and eye.

I always recommend that people carry a compass, in some form or fashion on them. Not in their pack, but on them. Or its in admin pouch on your first/second line. If I were you, id add a small GP pouch. Its enough to carry some key items, that can really help.. I mean I carry a bunch of other stuff that I need based on *mission requirements* but if I had to pick like two items, id pick a compass, and knife or multitool. For example I have a small (very small) admin pouch on my belt line. And in it, I carry the following items.. (The pouch on the right)

- Bic Lighter (In waterproof bag)
- Extra Batteries (In waterproof bag)
- Multi-tool
- Iodine Tablets
- Signal Mirror

I carry a compass in another spot, along with GPS's and a ton of other bullshit. But the point is look how much I added, with minimal weight, and minimal price. The most expensive thing on that list is the multitool.

>>
>>34327489
that is a very expensive soft armor vest. but those features are nice

just because it's bullet proof doesn't mean it's stab proof. this vest is thug proof, being resistant against most shit you'll see on the streets

BUT, it's double what most soft vests go for, and I would need to see pics before I believe it's concealable, and i'd need to wear it before I deemed it comfortable. if it can do what it say it can do and hide under a button up, it's good to fucking go, but I feel like something with that level of protection has to print

I did a lot of looking into soft armor myself https://www.safeguardclothing.com/coolmax-ii-bullet-1-stab/ this would be more my speed. sacrifice protection, but will be thinner and lighter

I've been meaning to get a decent compass. I use a GPS app these days but still don't own a mechanical compass.

Bic lighter is another big one. I lost my Leatherman Sidekick the other day. I didn't like it much anyway though. I need a replacement. Any suggestions? Prefer spring loaded pliers, and one handed knife opening. Also not to big or heavy since it is my EDC.

>>34326753
Thanks Anon :D
Both you and GT suggest just closing my dominant eye for the time being. I imagine over time my left eye will get stronger, and then It'll be easy to keep both open.

H2O, AMMO, IFAK
Those are the essentials.
I'm eventually going to do a chest rig that I can add to my battle belt setup to increase capability. All it is going to have is another water bottle, 3 more rifle mags, and a micro IFAK.

Honestly I just use a wingman. It's doesn't meet all your requirements and leatherman offers a ton of different options. But I just got this one because it's small, light, and does what I need it to do, for me personally.

The bic lighters are great, I've used zippos, and other options in the field, but imo the zippos suck in the rain. Bic lighters will only not light if they are like completely soaked. I put them through hell and they never let me down, not to mention they are cheap.
>>
>>34328207
Cont. I also have three navigation tools whenever I go out, first being a GPS. And I've used a bunch right now I use the etrex. A USGI lensetic compass, and then a wrist rocket on my watch.

Suggestions for a range bag?

I always take a long gun and a pistol to the range. The range bag should be able to hold boxed ammo, the pistol (in hard case), a sandbag (for sighting in), and my eye and ear pro.
>>
>>34328989
I've used a LAPG Bailout bag (http://www.lapolicegear.com/tabaoutbag.html) for around 3 years now, its a pretty solid bag with plenty of storage.

For me it carries:
>in ear plugs
>ovear ear muffs
>1L nalgene
>cliffbars/jerky (range has a no crablegs policy after the last butter spill)
>glock in factory box
>pile of mags for said glock
>several 50 round boxes of ammo
>bottle of lube
>cleaning rod
With space to spare.

I figure you could put your sandbag in one of the water bottle holders on the side and use the interior pocket to hold your pistol + ammo + ear pro

oh duh can't believe I didn't think of that.

on the subject, are there downsides to plastic/polyethylene/UHMWPE plates? Level III is light (3lbs), floats, stops m193 which steel doesn't, plus the one i got to squeeze was sort of padded/comfy feeling.
>>
>>34332919
they don't stop m855 consistently and are more sensitive to weather conditions. I think over 140 degrees is dangerous for them so if you leave them in the car during the summer, gg no re

if you get a polyethylene plate with reinfocement for m855, then you have a III+ plate (bulletproofme for example) that'll stop m855 and m193

They differ from the 3s by the fact that they have a voice menu ( a female voice will guide you through the menus and provide warnings) and also have a earplug mode (gets super loud).

>what parts would I need?

You'll need a Peltor Y cable harness assembly
https://srstactical.com/y-cable-harness-assembly.html

You'll need a mic (mt21 or mt31)

Fleabay listing is an awesome deal for half price!!!!

And you'll need a PTT that accepts a NATO plug (depends on what radio you have)
Post your radio and I can point one out

You will also need a mic post to replace one of the posts on the headset to mount the mic on.

The standard radio of /k/

https://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-UV-5R-Dual-Radio-Black/dp/B007H4VT7A

I actually bought one for test purposes last week and it seems like a very sturdy little radio if you're starting out. It's also incredibly adaptable and PTTs formatted for it are very easy to find that will interface with your comms headset.

I hear that you have cash to spend, so if you want to take it up a notch with affordable comms capable of true encryption (real deal! not scrambling!), then I suggest this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TYT-MD-2017-Dual-Band-Tier-I-II-DMR-Analog-144-430MHz-Radio-US-Seller-/292160379753

Keep in mind, that encrypting your transmissions is a NO NO by the FCC, just saying.

These use a custom pinout motorola connector so you will need simple soldering skills to adapt a U94 ptt for it.
