So, I'm going to build the most /arg/ AR around. Instead of rolling for parts. I'll do a series of straw polls. To keep the polls from becoming meaningless I'll curate them to a maximum of 5 entrys. To expedite the process, the gun will have a freefloated barrel.

All BCM stuff, the upper was originally a 16" gov profile I swapped out for a bcm 14.5" lightweight. I got it from AIM real cheap a couple months ago, they had a customer appreciation sale and I got the upper and lower for $1100 I think and then the lightweight barrel was on sale through BCM for $179. It's a great little rifle.

I've thought about it. Just a placeholder until I get a real one which I won't for a long time. But for pure aesthetics, they do look really good.

If I had any sort of discipline I could have a real one in a few months. But I always end up buying something else before I can save that much up. Plus I'd then have to buy NODS which aren't cheap either for good ones.

You have to remove the old surface first with lye before you attempt to re anodize, but yeah you could do whatever color you wanted in theory.

Type II allows you to choose from a wide variety of colors, you are essentially dying the pores in the metal during the process. Type III is limited to greys and blacks since the coating is thicker and will not take dyes well.

Basically, if you are buying a snowflake color on aluminum, it's type II coating.

the arisaka is very nice. aside from the tailcaps i have on them, not a lot of difference as far as i can tell. not anything significant anyway.
id pick the arisaka just bc its a little bit sleeker and discreet and often cheaper than the scout. the base on the flashlight body is narrower than the scout, but that only matters if youre trying to mount it in a tight spot

You can move your rear sight all the way back and your front sight all the way forward for free. Different grip and stock would be super cheap - get in a gun parts FB group and you can find BCM and Magpul stuff for next to nothing.

Out of all the slings I've tried I like the Vickers padded the best, but for less cash you could probably find a used Magpul MS3 and buy a pad off amazon for it if you feel like you need one. I see the non-padded vickers slings on fb groups for $30 shipped pretty regularly.

Also if it were my rifle, and it's not, I'd get the entire bottom rail off there and ditch the afg for a bcm stubby vfg and get a proper keymod light mount for whatever light that is. Your optic is good to go so your expensive part is out of the way already. I bet with some careful looking at used gear you could have a pretty stellar little rifle there for another $100 or less.
