My AK just keeps getting cooler and cooler. Added a night vision scope and a red dot sight in addition to a dust cover rail.
Currently awaiting a 4x scope to use in place of the red dot sight but this will work for now. I love this thing lol

It's an IO AK With an ATI Strikeforce furniture kit and a Canis Latrans night vision scope for anyone interested btw

Heres a second pic of it, the stock folds.
>>
>>33613512
It saddens me that someone would put a decent pair of NVGs on a rifle set up like that cancer
>>
>>33613592

The AK only cost me 250$ and a phone battery brand new because the owner, a friend of mine, bought it and never used it and ended up not liking it so he sold it to me.

As for the night vision, it only cost me 300$ for a pair of it because it's a Digital Chinese copy. Still excellent for hunting Coyotes though.
>>
What would a Maadi AK with a thumbhole stock be worth? From what I've heard they're really good AK clones produced on Russian tooling. It comes with two 30 rounders and a 10 round mag.
>>

Is it whack? Good first 74?
>>
>>33613723
That's fine but I'd try and Jew the guy down to $650 unless the thing comes with mags. It's not difficult. Easier to just have a professional do though. The only thing you'll need to fuck around with is a new stock set, new gas block, muzzle brake detent, and getting the barrel threaded. If it's one of those ones with a long barrel though, fuck that shit. Just make sure to inspect the thing.
>>
>>33613699
>>33613689
It is an IO Inc. Honestly a lot of the hate they get is pretty undeserved. The build quality is exceptional, the rifle handles well, and it is one of their later models.

They got a lot of hate from their earlier models, which had a faulty Bolt Carrier. They released a newer bolt carrier which remedied the issues and replaced (and still do replace) the old bolt carriers for free provided that you request/requested one.
>>
>>33613828
I would be really surprised if that thing functioned the same after 5k rounds and some wear from training. But hell, wouldn't be the first time I'm proven wrong.
>>
>>33613828
Oh my, you're actually shilling for IO Inc? Sad!
>>
>>33613882
I mean I guess I am if I enjoy it. At 250$ brand spankin' new I'm not gonna complain.
>>
>>33613912
There's a reason you got it that cheap. It WILL inevitably have probably much sooner than a WASR or even a well put together parts kit build will.
>inb4 you've "run" 800 rounds through it and it's "great" or "a real champ"
>>
>>33613783
bring a set of gauges before you buy
>>
>>33613828
Here's a hint for your dumbass: it's not the bolt carriers that make the headspace walk out, the rivets sheer, or the cast bolt and front trunnion kaboom
>>
>>33613978
nah, my friend needed the money for car parts and a phone battery because his was dead. He hadn't shot anything through it because he just didn't like it and regretted the purchase. So I bought it.
>>
>>33614000
I have yet to see anything about an IO AK explosion from their newer models.
>>
>>33614017
>he just didn't like it and regretted the purchase
Yeah because he has a brain and realized he fucked up buying an IO so he sold it to the first schmuck willing to buy it

So are PSA barreled kits at least as good as a WASR or should I just save some more and buy a WASR?

Wasr
>>

Wasr or if you want something a little nicer that you could put that Russian furniture on, one of the DIY WBP Polish guns.
You'll still need a trigger group and a safety, but it's got a grat Polish CHF CL barrel, for around what a Wasr will run you.

So what are the issues with the PSA kits? Or is it mostly that it's a US made barrel? $360 is tempting.

This AK will mostly be a range gun, I have the Saiga 74 (that still needs front end stuff done) and a great AR for SHTF situations.

No, a 100% receiver is bent with the rails welded in and heat treated, 100% ready to be built into a rifle. No trunnions have been added. Also, if the rear trunnion is already installed you would have to remove one rivet to install the rail.
>>
>>33619498
>Also, if the rear trunnion is already installed you would have to remove one rivet to install the rail.

I guess I'm not seeing the problem. Just put the siderail on when you're putting in the rear trunnion.
Again, not him, but I've often wondered about a "100%" or complete ak receiver, ready to have the barrel pressed in.
>>
>>33619511
I think your question was worded poorly. There would be no rear trunnion so you could install the rail when you install the trunnion.

A 100% receiver is not ready to have the barrel pressed in, you still have to install the front trunnion.
>>
>>33619466
80% or 100% refers to the ATFs definition. This is interesting when you have imported AKs that don't have serial numbers on the stamped sheet steel receiver. Saigas only have serial numbers on the trunnion. So what happens if you remove the trunnion from the receiver? Are you defacing the serial number?

>>33619434
Kek
>>
>>33619543
>I think your question was worded poorly.

Very possible.
Why couldn't someone put in both trunnions, and the siderail, and cross support and drill all the holes etc, ready to have the barrel pressed in, and the FCG dropped in, and sell them in the same way an AR stripped lower is sold? Sure it would have to be serialized and done with a 4473, but couldn't it be done?
I think that's what the original guy was asking. Can it be done.
Something like this pic.

>>33619546
I never mentioned what is or isn't defined as what by the ATF. I know a 100% receiver could not be sold the same way an 80% can. I, and possibly the guy that originally asked the question, was just wondering does anybody sell a 100% receiver?
Again, I know a 100% receiver would have to be transferred with a 4473.
>>

I have a chance to buy a rare grey keeper Egyptian military sling. I've never ever seen a grey one, just black and occasionally tan. It's pretty cool but the guy wants $50 and I'm not sure if I want to pay $50 for a sling that although rare is no different than any other Maadi sling except for a grey piece of leather and that will just sit around doing nothing.

Not really sure where to ask about this one, but I guess you guys would be the most knowledgeable on the subject, seeing as the SKS is the grandpappy of the AK.

Anyway, I'm thinking of getting an SKS-M/Paratrooper or some kind of 16" SKS that accepts AK mags, and putting it in some kind of stock that has a pistol grip (debating on the Tapco T6 because it's cheap and simple) to compliment my AK that i already own.

Any recommendations, suggestions, or advice for which SKS model to get that accepts AK mags? What kinda price should I be expecting? I had a Russian SKS before and it was $350, but I expect the AK-mag version to cost more.

I wonder if grinding the barrel shank to final OD before mating it into the trunnion would make the rifle more accurate?

Smoother finished surfaces mating to each other couldn't hurt.

They are charging you 250 for tooling costs along with time, something like that would be very difficult to machine depending on how you do it. Im assuming the place has a 5 axis cnc? I used to do some work with those, no programming but our programmer would take like 2-3 hours to come up with a working program for that. I dont know what sort of production capabilities the place you went to has but the first run of anything is always the most expensive.
>>
>>33626669
wat why?

I mean, it would need a special dovetail cutter but that's not $250 worth of work even as a one-off.

They're probably going to pay someone to convert your 3d model to CNC code instead of use it as a reference.

^ this

get a quote from someone doing it on a manual machine and link them to the dovetail cutter.
>>
>>33626669
Probably pretty tough to do when it's not all right angles
>>
>>33627192
The only not right angles are the outline, it's just a male dovetail section.
>>
>>33627192
Nah not really, the tricky part for scope mount would be the rivet holes. Its really easy to get some chatter if you are drilling through too fast, or with a dull bit resulting in the center of the hole being off. The worst part is that it could be off just a slight amount, not enough to affect rivets being put through it but it could throw off the accuracy of the adjustments on your optic if it didnt sit true, it could off center to your receiver really mess with some of the higher bore axis optics that Slavs seem to love.
>>
>>33627272
wat

Drill it with center-cutting end-mills then.

you could always do a group buy to bring down cost

Kinda figured it'd be high but thought maybe $130-200 because its a somewhat simple dovetail.
