I would suggest Katalox. Much harder and denser than even ebony, but keeps the dark color and smooth texture. For the amount required it would probably be under 200 if you could find a log, probably sub 100 if you laminate smaller pieces together. This is sans labor costs and shipping.

Try manual. You dont have to go full manual either. If your camera is like mine it might have individual settings. For example i can ajust iso or apeture and let the camera do the rest. Tinker around with it. Get an idea on what does what and how much is good or bad depending on your shot.

Call or email Two Rivers Arms.
They have some nice M70 furniture (NPAP compatible), but they don't have it on their site any more.

Alternatively, Ironwood Designs sells sets too.
Neither are very cheap though
Iirc, the Two Rivers set is ~$150-$175, and the Ironwood is ~$300.
But you can get the Tabuk cut stock which is pretty sweet.

Practice measuring and drilling shit with some cheap sheet metal mockup holes and stuff.

Make DAMN sure you know how to properly mount shit in your drill press.
You might want to invest in a laser or a piece of string to make sure things are straight sight wise.

And make sure you don't over-torque the screws on the butt stock.
I fucked up a perfectly good polish stock that way and now it has to wear a Romanian stock.

i.o is not even at hi point level build quality, think of raven or jennings,

it's made with cast and improperly heat treated trunions, the most vital part of the gun

Noodle mystery meat barrels

gas blocks and sights held on by weak roll pins

Improper heat treated receivers which egg out after 300 rounds

the only thing positive is the furniture is made in poland and it's okay, most likely because it's not made in the mexican skunk works i.o calls a faculty

I have not been keeping up with the latest AK stuff, I used to post on AKFiles but got tired of dealing with the crazy fucking losers there- think if /b/ and /pol/ mated and had a retarded racist fetus grow in an asshole - but I digress...

Not familiar with IO, but I recall when B-West outsourced receiver building to a local metal shop down the road from them (who was NOT a licensed firearms manufacturer) and didn't heat treat the receivers. They built lots of Chinese kits and the holes egged like in that pic.

That is not to say all of B-West guns are bad, all of their completely foreign built Imports (which are Pre-Ban Chinese and Russian) are great.

I have a B-West Saiga. Had it converted to AK size (cut down and threaded barrel) and installed a real Russian triangle folding stock. It's pretty awesome. I just need to refinish it or else I'd post pics.
>>
>>33607998
Update it with what? You nuts? It's a wartime Tugo kit with a Bosnian Fleur de Lis mag. It says as is. The side mount was made by PA Distributors, contracted to some Bosnian company. They don't make them anymore.

My Siaga has been "updated" though. As stated above, I need to have the stock refinished because I had the holes left from conversion welded closed.

>>33608036
>I need to have the stock refinished because I had the holes left from conversion welded closed.

I cannot figure out how having the holes welded closed in the receiver = needing to have the stock refinished. Care to elaborate?
>>
>>33608157
So, the rifle was in the Saiga "sporter" format, when converted the trigger guard was moved forward, as you know, but the two holes on each side above the trigger remained and I didn't want gay ass plugs there so I had them welded at the same time, and had a traditional Russian fixed stock converted for Russian folding triangle stock. So the rear of the stock has been sanded and shows bare metal. The rest of the stock is black. I want to refinish it. Simple.
I had that dude in Oregon do the work, Turbo This but he doesn't do refinishing. Or didn't at the time.

>>33608124
I don't like to post high-res pics because sometimes you can see identifying marks, serials, etc.

>>33608240
There are two on there now.

I don't see the appeal of them. I had a good AK mag "collection" but decided to sell off almost all. Kept just Russian AK103 polys, Yugo BHO's and Bosnian mags. I saw the ridiculous prices on the Bosnians and couldn't resist selling one Fleur de Lis and a Single Rib no FDL for $700 abut a year ago. Don't know what prices are like now though.

Now just left with three FDL's, one of which has new spring. That's the one in the Autism pic posted above

JBI replied to my message this morning, for the record.

>>33608754
If you found a Russian with access to a MK-107 you could probably get him to send you everything you needed to build a functional AK-107 clone. Keep in mind that most Russians can't own rifles at all because you have to own a shotgun for 5 years just to get permission to own a rifle. And it seems like most MK-107 owners(?) in Russia are sponsored competitors. And what this would entail would probably still be illegal in some shape or form.

Owning a 62s I can tell you that the rifle doesn't feel as heavy as you would think. The added weight compared to a stamped AK is only in the receiver so it balances really well.
It also makes it more accurate and durable so personally I would never opt for a stamped slavshit instead of a Valmet.

Accuracy is debated and durability is negligible unless you're running over the gun with a truck, in which case shit like >>33610822 can still happen regardless of the milled receiver. Not to mention milled receivers are more prone to cracking from rapid temperature changes.

Finnish on the barrel looks a little fucky and I can't tell if you have a muzzle device or not.

Confusing and sad
>>
>>33612287
I automatically like any basic ak without a slant brake, my experience with them has had them having pretty be effects on accuracy.
Must be some uneven gases pushing on the bullet on the way out or something vs a normal brake.
>>
Hey queers, just back from the range and I always forget how much I love my AK's and how shit AR's are

>>

Oh, so that's why I went from shit to putting most shots within about 10 inches at 400 yards... out of nowhere?
Ok.
>>
So what did JBI say about your autism?
>>
>>33612492
Sounds like you just practiced more to overcome your handicap. Slant brake has no affect on accuracy besides quicker follow up shots.
For shits and giggles, what kind of rifle ?
>>
>>33612519
>sounds like you just practiced more to overcome your handicap.
Shot 2 sets of 10rds with a vz2008 at the regular targets I use out there with other aks etc. Removed the slant after a frustrating first 10 shots.
The difference was significant.
>>
>>33612542
What distance?
>>
>>33612542
Thats because it's a VZ2008 and not an AK, this is a common issue as slants were never supposed to be on VZs yet Century put them on them anyway.

This is like putting a slant brake on an AR and getting upset that it doesn't do the same as a birdcage.
>>
>>33612557
400 yards.
>>33612559
I'm still never, ever putting one of them on my gun, even if it's maybe in my head.

Not really, that's not even the only reason.
They've also been proven to basically be a really shitty brake compared to anything else out there.

There's videos in which people test out the recoil impulses in slow motion.

Works pretty good m8.
If you had an ak you would know.
>>
>>33612621
I do have a few, just not one with a slant.
I've shot slant braked aks before, but the friend who owned it changed it for a tapco slotted a couple months later and is much happier with it.
>>
so all this slant brake VZ ruckus got me thinking...what should I put on my VZ? (not that guy..just another VZ owner with a slant brake that came on it)

Unless you're talking about the garden variety autism that I ooze ceaselessly, I didn't ask him about my conversions, just gonna get the ball rolling on an AKM kit first.
