Wrong on multiple counts

Wolf said they would be altering the front sight post in order to make them compatible with AR-height sights. Turns out that in this batch they simply included an extra, taller front sight post.

They didn't permanently fuck with the FSB, the solution is cheap, and giving options to every customer for free is an inspiring move by Wolf.

Straight away there's some weirdness on the receiver. Some strange double serration I can't think of a reason for, the 1913 rail abruptly ends, and the receiver looks like it's maybe a little taller than an AR15 height. Kind of how DPMS has two different receiver heights. Can't confirm.

This is not an American receiver. It's obviously a foreign casting, cut with foreign tools and anodized foreignly. Everything is just a little bit different.

>Anyone here have issues with the Geissele SD3G? I've noticed if my stock isn't firmly against my shoulder when I'm rapid firing it doesn't reset properly and fire. I'm thinking about switching to their combat version with a heavier spring.

it's 100% you I have recommended and warned multiple folks about s3g/sd3g. those trigger arent for plebs like you with poor trigger control.

the reset is so short that it resets as recoil recoils in your shitty artillery hold when you finger let go mid rearward recoil and when bcg slam forward in battery it impulsed whole rifle forward bringing the trigger to your lazy finger to be fired again.

the recoil of rifle basically made trigger escape your finger to be rested then impulsed into your finger to be fire again.

its like you standing still as you get humped.

heavier spring alleviated this slightly but it would still happen you either shoulder the rifle firmly from now on or mind the trigger/single load when precision shooting.

The front of the receiver is relieved to fit this piston guide plate. It drops down 2/3" or so, enough for the piston to fit through a hole in it. This is a clever way to add some wear resistance to the aluminum upper; I would guess that this is 6000 series aluminum, as 7000 series would probably be strong enough not to require this.

The brake is a late-style Taiwanese thingy, the early muzzle devices didn't have brake holes, just a flash hider. This is a c-c-combo. It is offset to roughly 1:30 like an AK slant brake, and is locked into position using a jam nut. The centering mark is clearly visible at 12:00. This brake could easily be tuned for a particular shooter.

The barrel is very smoothly machined.

The piston assembly is very clever. My Adams Arms piston falls apart into three pieces when removed, and often some of those get stuck under the handguard and have to be shaken out. This is a contained unit.

The piston assembly has a lug which is rotated into a slot in the gas block. Once in position, another key, the thing that looks like a sling attachment point but isn't, locks the piston assembly in place so it cannot rotate.

These gas blocks are either altered from the true Taiwanese military versions, or else are entirely new casts. They delete the bayonet lug, delete the actual sling attachment point, delete the 6:00 rail segment, and add lightening cuts to the sight tower.

Here's the unit disassembled. It is not a switching gas block, there is only one position.

The piston components all fit inside a sleeve for easy disassembly. It's unlikely that this ever needs to be taken apart.

The handguards are retained by a captive pin through the gas block. They are a very rigid plastic and include aluminum heat shields.

They're easy to remove but difficult to reinstall, I needed a mallet to realign the pin hole. It feels as though they rely on the receiver-size endplate for spring tension.

The end plate has ears to prevent rotation. The barrel nut looks proprietary, I haven't tried a wrench on it yet.

Inside we go. At first glance the guts seem pretty normal. And they mostly are.

The charging handle is nicely rounded: a forging. It's well built, the spring is not overly powerful and it slides smoothly.

The bolt looks to be phosphate finish. It's very smooth. The bolt rails are interrupted, presumably for lower friction in the receiver. The butt of the bolt has been beveled, likely to combat MUH TILT. The cam pin's corners are rounded and beveled nicely. You'll notice that there are no forward assist serrations, and no gas venting ports. This is built to be exactly what it is and nothing more, it's not an off-the-shelf part modified to be something new.

I was not talking about fail to fire tho but it going brrrt.

and it isnt about mass it's about moving weights in buffer taht prevent or alleviate bolt bounch.

plus a5 system have tiny spring inside buffer that reset weight position.

*bolt carrier

The bolt carrier is one piece as seen here. There is a little bit of a rolled over edge on the """""gas key""""" but since the piston is smaller than that, I don't think it would cause any problems. In fact it may help keep the piston centered. Everything so far is well machined, smooth, and well finished.

Here's another anomaly; the cam pin has an oval hole through it. I checked my other ARs, and they are all round, so I cannot guess why it was cut this way. It's definitely oval, and chamfered. The firing pin is not hard chromed but has a dark, tacky finish that feels like a blackened phosphate rather than melonite, but I can't be sure. This seems like an odd choice in a floating firing pin, but if the Taiwanmen think it works then it's good enough. We'll see if/when the firing pin tip breaks.

More weirdness. This is a bespoke piston bolt, as it has not been cut for gas rings. There is also no spring to propel the bolt out of the bolt carrier on cycling, it's relying solely on the lugs for that. This is a high wear part and I'm interested to see how it looks after a few thousand rounds.
>implying

This part is definitely pretty chewy, which isn't surprising because it's the most complex. There are some low spots on the gas ring area, as well as some chunky machining around the bolt lugs.

Here's some of the chewy machining. The lugs themselves seem OK but there is some chatter between them.

There are also some strange diagonal relief cuts behind each lug. Maybe they can't get precision bits to make a sharp enough shoulder and then use a disc to kerf away the rest?

These marks are a little worrying, considering the extra shearing force on the lugs in a piston system.

>>33534559
I checked, the firing pin doesn't wobble like that because it's supported by the bolt carrier at the back and the bolt face at the front. The cam is in the middle. It's weird.

So that's pretty much it.

Some final thoughts:
- The machining, finishing, and surface treatments look top notch on every component except the bolt. Those kerf marks on every bolt lug and the machining chatter are a little worrying, those seem like failure points prime for lug shearing. If the Battlefield Las Vegas test unit is to be believed, it isn't an issue. His test unit has been made smoking hot for months now, with thousands of rounds fired full auto.
- The handguard fit is very tight. It feels much more robust than an M4 clamshell handguard, which tends to wobble, wiggle and compress. This is very, very solid.
- The upper-to-lower fit is VERY nice. The best I've ever seen. There is absolutely no wobble on this particular lower, yet the pins still come out easily. Very, very impressive feeling. It feels like a big boy gun for sure.
- The upper receiver anodizing feels like a very thin Type III anodizing to me. There were a couple of edge dings out of the box, my Bobro put on some more, and there is a coarseness to the finish that we don't typically see in American military hardcoating.
- Seriously, the upper-to-lower fit is phenomenal.

Hello from the AK side of the fence.

I'm torn between an LMT or a Colt for a first AR. I like that LMT sells their uppers and lowers separately, and the DI offerings are pretty inexpensive. But Colt offers the "OEM" rifle without furniture for $100 or so less, and seems like a great deal.

I don't care for the concept of DI (I know it's 100% fine), but piston guns are out-of-budget, and the Wolf A1 is here now anyway, plus DI parts are ubiquitous etc. etc.

LMT or Colt, /k/? Which is less shit?

The point is that a heavier system may not eliminate bolt bounce as well as a better designed one. An A5 at 3.8oz will work better than H1/2. The SCAR is to prove that a heavy BCG will still bounce and the elimination of bounce has to do more with inertial management than sheer mass alone.

From 1.5-2.5 MOA with the Savage FVSR using quality/shit ammo respectively and from 0.75 to 1.5 MOA with the CZ455 using quality/shit ammo respectively. Tested at 100 yards. At 50 yards the accuracy of the CZ455 goes up marginally because the ported barrel saps some stability from booluts at longer range.

um...lo mass won't fix that, a heavy buffer will. if you want a faster cycle but no bounce, use a extra power spring and a heavy buffer

A lot of US piston kits have a spring inside the bolt carrier to push the bolt out during firing, so the locking lugs don't have to work so hard. Pic related from the internet. The Wolf doesn't have that spring.

Heavy buffer = greater reciprocating mass = slower cycle.
If the orginal bcg already has trouble with the fast lock times of fast hammer, how do you think a heavier one will fair?
A tuned lmos is the only proper solution.
Obviously one shouldn't do this to a fighting gun, and one shouldn't put a hair trigger in one either in the first place.

Wonder why they didn't just make a proprietary upper so they can have a longer cam track? This is pretty much how KAC and LMT improved their bolt durability, and how SCARs can go into 100s thousand rounds on a single bolt. It all comes down to the cam track, and it's even more impressive in a piston gun.

Back! finally decided which acog i actually specifically want

TA50-C-400223

its 3x24 red crosshair or green with range drop compensate hashes.

-small
-short
-good reticle and acceptable eye relief

it will look and feel like its home on carry handle.

3x30 models is also just as acceptable to me. it's bit longer but it should perform better in low light condition than 3x24 on paper better eye relief too both eye relief is actually longer than stated by trijicon

about 4x32 ta31 series they are right inside of my maximum acceptable size. i might do their red crosshair or chevron.

models
1st pick 3x24 50% desire
2nd pick 3x30 30% desire
3rd pick 4x32 20% desire

reticle color and type
1st pick crosshair red/green 70% desire
2nd pick chevron red/green 30% desire
both with 223 range drop hashes

but 3x24's godsend to me
-have windage guide lines
-so small and compact
-so aesthetic
-fair magnificent and eye relief.

As easy as most others but you have the integrated FSP/Gas block so you either have to get one of those handguards with the slot in it to go around the FSP, or get shorter length handguards, or swap out the standard gas block with a low profile one - if you're looking to extend the front handguard out past a certain length (most people seem to want to these days). That's why i went with a CORE 15 low profile Aluminium AR15 for my first entry level AR.
