Welp, I'm laying in a hospital bed in excrutiating testicular pain because one of my nuts got twisted up too much. I tried that, and it sort of dilutes the grease and makes it spread easier, so instead of having a big glob right around the barrel nut I have a thin coating all over the front of the receiver. I wiped it off as best I could with that method but there's still a lot around the threads. I figure it's gotta prevent rust a little bit at least so maybe it's best to leave some around there.

The video I was watching (by midway I think) said it was a good idea to use it. I don't know how much it helped exactly, but I did tighten the barrel to 30 ft-lbs about 3 times and then a bit tighter the last time to time up the gas tube cutout. I think it was a good idea overall, just very messy.

Why is it that I never see the circle area line up correctly? It seem slike every AR/M16/M4 rifle has a mismatch between the upper and lower right at this spot (right above where the lower and upper meet at the mag release area).

Even on matched upper and lower receivers made by the same company, there is a weird overhang on the upper that isn't matched with anything on the lower? It triggers my autism just a bit, but I can't figure out how or why this even comes about. Do most people just not see it? It kinda ruins the aesthetic of the right side of the rifle, and it doesn't seem like it'd be all the difficult to fix.

Anyone know the answer or why this is the way it is?
