It's time for the usual questions that don't deserve their own thread... thread.

>PROFIT!

I recently purchased a Glock 43 (Not sure what gen, its the one with the weird pointy grips) and I immediately noticed that the slide release was next to impossible to actually use so I googled it and got nothing but people saying "It's a slide stop, not a slide release." and "it's working as intended".

This is my first striker fire pistol and from what I understand it isn't a problem to use the slide release on my USP (has hammer), but supposedly "it's different" on a Glock. Is this just one of those Glock brand Glock memes or will it just break in eventually? I noticed I could also get an extended lever, but I don't know if the whole "slide stop" thing is a meme or serious.

Enlighten me.
>>
Rerack it by pulling on the slide, you mong.
>>
>>33233712
using the slide stop to release the slide to its forward position will not hurt the gun

.t gunshop fag
>>
>>33233728

I understand that hand over slide is preferred but I've never heard of it being 100% necessary until learning about this gun.
>>
>>33233751
I've literally seen someone break their stop off the gun after having misused it this way habitually. It's just a small piece of metal, and it's called a "stop" not a "release" for a reason. Don't do this on Glocks, M&P, or any other gun where it's just a tiny metal tab.

tl;dr: Can I mount this on an SKS?

I recently won an under barrel shotgun (exact one in pic), but the only rifle I have with a long enough picatinny rail underneath is an SKS, and I'm too cheap to buy new rails for my AR. As far as I know, when firing these you're supposed to grip the rifle's magazine. Does it matter if I don't have a mag to grab on my SKS?

That recoil has to go somewhere. What material is the pic on your sks? I'm leaning toward don't do it. If the pic strip is polymer, definitely do not.

PT. 1

People can only be medically incapacitated 2 ways with slug-chuckers (((boolits))).

A brain stem hit - the only instant and 100% guaranteed off switch.

The other way is blood loss. Blood loss via drop in blood pressure is a time-based situation with boolit wounds from handguns, even with a completely perforated heart a human being can physically function up to around 8 seconds - and that's assuming a perfect high thoracic cavity strike - gun fights are very imperfect, you might want to plan on carving out significantly more tissue.

The more tissue you crush and remove the faster blood is lost. More kinetic energy imparts more trauma, generates bigger permanent crush cavities, shatters more bones and drives pieces of those bones further with more energy, lacerating and causing more hemorrhaging.

.40 is wily and recognized as high energy, laws of physics dictate equal and opposite reactions. If your rounds dump more trauma imparting, tissue crushing kinetic energy into the target it's perfectly reasonable to expect more fight from the gun in return.

Typically, for an advanced level shooter (someone at the 60%-75% mark) .40 S&W adds about ~.15 seconds to splits which is proportionally almost exactly how much more energy they dump in to the target than 9x19 (~50% more) - In my opinion it's a side-grade, a fair trade, whatever you want to call it. The numbers actually skew in favor of the .40S&W but as stated I'm also assuming an advanced level of shooting from the operator so there is discrepancy.
>>
>>33236952
>>33236972
>>33236989

PT. 2 including a (you) for the reductive slimy sycophant who arrived. ;)

In the 90's and early 2000's recording and compiling volumes of anecdotal, individual shootings and their results was a very popular metric. During this time the .40S&W outperformed every other duty caliber in terms of one shot stops.

Yeah, we know now a days that this is not good science, doesn't change the fact that a fuckload of aggressors have been put down right then right there with a single .40S&W

All this said,40 is a complete side grade, you literally exchange the almost exact proportional amount of speed for almost the exact proportional gain in tissue crushing. I'm not saying it's better than 9x19, I'm just really fucking tired of the echo chamber regurgitated one liners tossed around the web like gospel, all because some bureaucratic bean counters at the FBI needed to justify cutting ammo cost and training.

Also don't hold your breath on the complete flushing of 40.

The ice we are on is so thin is will take one high profile incident of an anecdotal nature where someone survives a strike from the current hotness (A La Miami FBI shootout) and we will go back around the merry-go-round of higher energy, more powerful ballistic reasoning.
>>
Is there such a thing as non flare 26.5mm rounds, like buckshot or slugs?
>>
Question - why do boolits like 10mm and .40S&W have flat noses and tapered body like pic related? What is the purpose of such bullet design? Does it aid in feeding? Reduces penetration?

>>33237415
I've seen smoke ones. But I'm pretty sure you can make your own pretty easy.
>>
>>33237481
What materials are used for 26.5 cases? I'm not gonna go make anything, just curious
>>
>>33237489
Never held one, but from what I remember, Czechoslovak milsurp had aluminium cases.
>>
>>33237481
flat meplats do better against barriers generally speaking. 40 S&W inherited its design from the 10mm it was based on.
>>
>>33237500
So it is to aid in barrier penetration? Curious. I would think that lower impact area and gradual increase in diametre would lend itself to more penetration.

i wanna cosplay IQ from siege and i wondering what some of her equipment she's wearing is called and where to find it.
so far i've managed to figure out some of these things by googling vague terms but the rest are still a little lost on me.
it's only two things that i'm having trouble with: the little pouch thingy on her upper arm along with a band to hold it in place and the helmet design.
i found a decent helmet with a visor but not the weird doodads on the sides. at first i thought they were earmuffs for shooting but her in game model disputes that and it is indeed two protruding bumps coming from the sides of her helmet. Is it a special helmet of sorts? If so what is it called? where can i find it?
And now for the the pouch thingy is there a special name for it? what's it for?
gomen for asking here. i dont think /cgl/ would have the answers for my inquires.
thanks.

I noticed on my DSA FAL that when I put rounds into the mag, if I push them all the way back and insert the mage with the bolt open it pops the first round out. But if I move the round every so slightly, like 1/16", it doesn't do this.

I only have the one mag right now so I can't test on others. Should I just take a dowel and gently push the rear "stops" of the mag in so the round can't go back to the point where they pop out?

Anyone else experience this?

For a handgun, you don't need much to clean it. Get yourself some lube/oil (I fell for the Hoppes 9 meme myself), some q-tips, and some of those cotton ball things on metal wires to clean pistol barrels with. To be honest, pistols don't need much.

For rifles, add a basic Otis cleaning kit and a boresnake in the right caliber and you're set.

Anyone one use an old tritium + fiber optic red dot? Something like the RX-01 or Meprolight M21?
Old enough for the tritium to substantially weaken or die.

Kinda interested in one and don't really care if it's not super bright as it gets old as long as it's somewhat usable.

For ease of acquisition in a semi, .22-250. Extremely flat shooting, fits in anything designed for the .308. Fucked by wind and caps out at around 65gr bullets so it's not a long-range caliber.

Another option would be plain ol' .243win, 107gr VLD's will fit to mag-length in any .308 pattern. Not as flat-shooting in the short term but is capable of 1200m+ supersonic with said 107gr bullets.

If you're willing to step up to the multi-thousand-dollar big leagues, .416 Barrett is available in a couple of repeaters and is the single longest-range round currently produced that isn't a destructive device. Alternatively there's a bunch of .50BMG-based wildcats that exceed it by some margin and could be chambered in any repeating .50bmg-based rifle.

Pic related is the .50 Allen Magnum. ~15% higher case capacity and muzzle velocity compared to .50BMG.

>>33247367
Yes. There are a shitload of different types. No "AK47" stuff will fit an "AK74" but some AKM style stuff might. The big issues are stamped versus milled receivers and the fact that everyone and their mother has made an AK variant many of which have slightly different specs.

If you want a deal on a light "for the money" get something on sale because you get what you pay for otherwise. Battery life and brightness (measured in lumens) are your main concerns. Build quality on a light doesn't really matter if you're not holstering it or rucking but the more expensive ones will be better built. As with all firearms things avoid "zombie" or "apocalypse" themed nonsense.

>>
>>33257037
Mostly, as long as it's thin enough to fit thru the swivles, or doesn't have a setup like Mauser, ak, k31, sks, mosin, ect where the setup requires like hooks and stuff to attach to the rifle then any sling should do

Does the reverse of this exist? I have an optic that mounts to weaver but a mount that only works with t1/h1
>>
>>33257118

Thanks man. I bought this after looking a bit and it seems it will fit 1inch swivels as many users asked the same question on the reviews page.

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1168349141/butler-creek-cobra-sling-36-x-1-padded-tan

it's basic bitch but it's not like i'd have an eye for quality right now anyways.
>>
>>33257232
i highly doubt it. you will just have to get a new mount
>>
>>33257065
Because they have othwr requirements.
For the military it geberally has to be cheap and easy (because conscripts are stupid) while law enforcement it has to be compact and reliable
>>
Ordered a gun and some mags that are supposed to weigh 10+lbs in total, but the tracking info shows the package at only 7lbs. What's with that?
Do shipping companies use different measurements or am I being paranoid?

I have an 590a1 with a 20" heavy walled barrel. I found a heat shield that says it's for a 18.5" heavy walled barrel, but attaches to the magazine tube. Will this fit on my shotgun??

On a handgun you usually want a sight that gives you fast target aquisition. But ive also seen revolvers with scopes mounted on them (for hunting) so it matters what you want to do with your handgun

IMO the short sight radius seems like it would defeat any accuracy gains of using a peep.

Illuminated 3-dot or an optic is the way to get spendy.

I'll apologize for being an ass and providing you with less than optimal information, but for now this is all I can spare due to various circumstances.

I have an Remington 870 Express magnum, with a standard 4-round magtube. However, I changed the barrel right upon purchase to a non-Remington spare barrel (the previous owner had cut the barrel and messed the choke threads).

Now, I wanted to extend the magtube with a +3 extension. Purchased it, drilled out the plugs on the old magtube, screwed on the extension... Doesn't work.

Turns out, the new barrel I have, has the "loop" that goes around the magtube (apologies, English isn't my first language) farther up front than the original barrel does. That means the magtube extension doesn't quite sit snugly enough against the extant magtube. A short gap remains, and the shells' ...rims (?) get snatched up on it. In effect, the magtube extension doesn't work.

Question: can I solve this without replacing my barrel or magtube extension? Could I, without damage, shorten the thread on the magtube extension piece?

I'll try and clarify, if possible, but for dumb-ass circumstance, I don't have the damn gun with me at the moment so...

Glock wants their gun to be as light as possible, they cut a lot of corners including making up the "slide stop" meme which other companies followed and now we have guns with shitty controls. Thanks glock, now if I need to do a one handed reload I'll have to use my teeth to release the slide. My dentist is gonna love it.

Only budget AR to come with the correct gas system length, correct twist rate while still having a protective layer.

Spoiler: the furniture is fucking ugly but obviously can be swapped.
>>
>>33262170
Yes, I see what you mean about the furniture. I'm trying to find some after-market furniture but I'm only getting hits for the rifle itself. What after-market options are available, and can you provide a link or two to get me started?
>>
>>33262251
U wut

You can put any AR parts on it, it's an AR. Most people go with Magpul, I like classic furniture.
>>
>>33262170
The recon model doesn't look so bad. Might be worth the additional $100 for the aluminum handguard.

The Blackhawk furniture may be ugly but it's a polymer free float handguard. That's pretty cool I guess.

I remember reading years ago about a confusion device used in the Vietnam war which was basically a bunch of firecrackers taped to a piece of plywood with fuse lengths that simulated a firefight when it was lit. Supposedly it was responsible for a camp of gooks completely wiping itself out by shooting at each other.

Does anyone know the name of it or who thought it up? I can't remember.

So what's the deal with Remington? Is everything they touch crap now or just the 870s?
I'm looking for a bolt action rifle and the Remington Model 700 is ubiquitous, but I want to check with the wise masters of 4chan about these rumors of low quality.

>>33264335
like with any mag, keeping the spring under constant pressure will make it weak over time (but not dramatically weak).

They were bought by the Freedom Group which is owned by Cerberus which is run by Steve (((Feinberg))) who is owned by the Chinese.

Everything is garbage. Everything. Bad safeties on 700s, bad finishes on everything, cheap Chinese steel, and just yesterday they started hemorrhaging workers including half of their nationwide quality control staff. OY VEY.
