Tomorrow you can expect a picture of my IFAK actually mounted on something. I know.. crazy idea!
>>33206729
t2 obviously, brb getting my duel disk from the attic
Also, if anyone wants to take a SERE class with GT, it's $200 for 4 people or $175 for 5 or more

Ok lads, i need some recommendations
i need a hoodie that is
>good for hiking (weatherproof)
>can withstand abuse
>A E S T H E T I C
>exists in black or green
>won't rape my wallet
i've been thinking TAD ranger hoodie (has all my specifications and has a humble price of 200 dollars)
thoughts?
>>33206527
>Anyone ever hear of these guys? Are they gud?
>multiholsters.com/
>>33206779
Im unsure how waterproof it is, considering its fleece. If im you, I get a atom lt hoody by arcteryx and then get an alpha sl shell. Kinda over your budget but well worth it. Also not that tacticool, but you can get it in black. The TAD is nice though.
>>33206779
VARUSTELEKA has aesthetic choices, senpai
>>33206779
>TAD ranger hoodie
it's a fleece, its going to have shit weather protective capability.
I have an Arc'teryx Gamma LT hoody I picked up on sale for around $200 that I would recommend.
>>33206779
I've always gone to the Outdoor Research Ferrosi. Stands up to all my falls from climbing. It's a softshell though. If you hike in a tacticool jacket with velcro and zippers everywhere you're gonna look like a sperg.
How shit?

>>33206779
Helikon-tex has some fleece similar.
but something I always do is get an insulation layer like a Columbia fleece jacket or flannel shirt and wear it over my water resistant windproof.
>>33206925
Not shit, there are just better options in that price range. They used to be $125 and it was worth it but they went up.
>>33206925
not complete garbage but not as good of a value as they used to be.
at that price point you're within spitting distance of a Mayflower APC or a Crye JPC.
>>33206951
some examples of similar vests that are better?
I'm trying to veer away from Condor and I know next to shit about these companies
>>33206968
pastebin
>>33206968
what do you mean by similar? I would look into ATS tactical's plate carriers
Almost got killed on the range today. Next lane over slamfired a few inches above my head.
But now I have an excuse to fag around in my armor.
>>33207099
Stories like these make me reconsider if I should wear my shit to the range.
>>33206925
could do far worse with your shekels
>>33206941
added note Looking through the helikon 2017 catalog and found a few intresting things.
>>33207109
Especially a tall fucker like you. Luckily I'm king of manlets and it landed a few inches above my head.
>>33207128
Wew fuckin lad. I mostly shoot on private land, but when I go with my school club we go to an indoor range. Range has barriers between the stalls but idk how good they are at stopping bullets.
>>33207123
those belts look p spiffy
>>33207128
How much did you yell at the dude next to you?
I wanna hear the aftermath.
>>33207157
RO did most of the yelling. He's a pretty chill dude who doesn't do the usual faggy RO stuff like "MUH RAPID FIRE". Flip his shit though, when it happened I thought I just caught some brass on my hat, but it was pieces of barrier.
>>33206718
>every edition
>>33207185
I've had idiots fire on cold ranges but never in my direction. Too close for me, hidragbro
>>33207185
>"MUH RAPID FIRE"
You Canadian or innaStates?
Canadian ranges are limited to one shot every 3 seconds I thought that was just a Canadian thing.
>>33206779
arc'teryx or northface would be good. northface is probably about to start selling light weight water proof jackets for hiking in spring. they were pretty cheap last year, cheaper than tad.
>>33207230
>arc'teryx or northface
He said not break the wallet. Dead bird is insanely expensive and Northface is still up there in cost. As owners of closets of both they're amazing but will break the wallet can confirm.
>>33207147
I bought one of their Windrunner jackets and haven't got it yet, so I can't attest to their quality yet.
but that laze cut molle on the belts doesn't look like a half bad idea.
and two-tone color schemes always appease my autism
but their swift clip chest rig looks goofy to me
>>33207229
'Merican
Depends on the range. Usually older RO's are the one's in favor of it for various reasons ranging from:
-I hate younger shooters and want to make them suffer
-Tryhards will magdump and land a round into the roof/sky/someone else
-My favorite: We can't tell if someone is shooting up the place or just rattling off rounds
Side note: Looking for a poncho, preferably OD green/black up to 150 dollarydoos. Any recommendations GQ?
>>33207244
He also mentioned $200 as a humble price for the TAD jacket. I picked up an Arc'teryx softshell for around $215 a couple years back, and it'll meet his criteria a hell of a lot better than an overpriced fleece.
>>33207244
yea but right after he mentioned that he mentioned TAD and that shit is expensive, specially for some little California indy company.
and "break the wallet" is different for everyone.
>>33207316
oh shit now were going to get accused of same fag...
>>33206941
Are all of those pouches Eagle Industries? How well do the colors match?
>>33207316
>>33207325
>He also mentioned $200
Oh I just saw that.
Northface is solid as fuck then.
Northface
Outdoor Research
Pretty much most brands at your local REI. All good options. I gotta be honest and shill for arcteryx. I got my atom lt on sale, around 190, and I am so pleased with it. Its my favorite jacket, and I dont regret the purchase even a little bit.
>>33207364
1 is Eagle ind (the IFAK) 1 AWS inc (the magazine pouches at my 12) 1 SDS USMC issue (the molle 2 canteen pouch)
Match well enough, I got 11 different shades of brown going on in the PC.
>>33207432
Atom LT is the shit, local hiking enthusiasts call it the 'miracle jacket' because it works so damn well.

Dude where can I get those ammo pouches and are they molle/malice compatible?
>>33207099
In all my years I've thankfully never had anything like that happen on a public range. I'd flip my god damned lid though, RO doing so as well or not.
I'd shit all over the RO too. Even a slamfire should not be an issue since an RO's main fucking job is to pay attention to where muzzles are pointing.
>>33207531
their site is under construction ATM, so I'd guess no
>>33207547
I would hold off on the padded shoulder sleeves cause the APC is supposed to come with them now. If they don't you can always add them later.
>>33207547
Wouldn't do the shoulder strap pads; Mayflower's are solid anyways now that they come with the APC.

APC owner here
If you're actually gonna be running plates and carrying heavy shit of any variety you're gonna want more padding. The shit it comes with is inadequate.
>>33208170
I found they were alright, but I guess it depends on your base layers.
See what you need later. APC comes with them, and if they're too thin then replace as you go.
>>33208170
I also own an APC, but it's an older (pre-velsys) version that had the wide, chafy pads. I've since replaced them with airsoft JPC "pads" (in quotes cause they're not padded, all they do is cable routing), but I don't use my APC much anyways since I have 2 other plate carriers.
how do you guys feel about using IIIa 6x6 side plates in your cummerbund, any reason not to? Why use an elastic cummerbund over a normal one with IIIa 6x6. They dont weigh much.
>>33208390
they don't weigh much but also remember that the area they cover is very small. look at a picture of an operator from side on, and the armored area from a side plate is quite small. So it's kind of a wash, do whatever you want.

>>33209201
Applying the laws of theoretical physics, by my calculations /gq/ has sunk to the level worthy of said shitposts. These threads have become cancer in and of themselves.

>>33209332
>far more tolerable
Want to know how I know what spectrum of autism you reside on?
>>33209289
I can see that being a problem. I'm just trying to find something that will leave me a budget for pouches. I'm a proponent of "buy once cry once" but I also don't feel comfortable dropping 150 bucks on something when I'm still in the learning phase.

Your constant projecting and virtue signaling is very annoying let alone covered up by just posting a picture we've all seen quite a bunch. Not an excuse.
Now here's a picture you've all seen a bunch.
>>33209249
The FLC works best when though of as a belt with suspenders. You will mags yourself miserable trying to use it as a chest rig. You can flip the belt component around and use it as a battle bra if you want, but it still imperfect.
You could do a lot worse, but time has left the FLC behind.
>>33209427

>>33209452
I don't airsoft. Seems neat but just not my thing. Don't have time for it. The fact that you're so hostile to this just shows that "yes I am virtue signalling very hard in autistic psuedo E drama that I WANT to involve myself in". If you're gonna be that autisto go outsidr or something for a while and chill out. I like your posting quite a bit when your buttbuddies aren't around that you gotta act cool around.
Someone a few threads ago asked about USGI. It's solid as fuck, would reccomend.
>>33209356
Well i can certainly undestand that. Theres always the chicom chest rig. You can get it off ebay, amazon sometimes, Major Surplus and Sportsmans Guide gets them every now and then. Its solid equipment and should be from 20 to 30 bucks. This will allow you to 1) get something and 2) learn on it before you invest more in something that may or may not be to your liking.
>>33209483
what would you want out of it and when would you want it?

I don't lurk /arg/ all that much. I also don't lurk /gq/ all that often. A lot of time I spend "on gq" is reading old threads when I get the chance. Very busy with school and such but whatever.
Mm fair enough, it is just annoying to see blatent virtue signalling calling anon's all airshitter retards under the guise of "posting gear". I know you post about how retarded/gq/ is elsewhere. I don't give a fuck, but it'd be nice to keep it directly out of the thread itself. Posting gear isn't just attaching a picture then proceeding to bait and shitpost on every other anon about how autistic they are.
I agree with the repetivness of it and the whiny anti-trip anon(s) are aids but it doesn't help when you especially decide to shit up the thread like that. Whatever. It's all good in the hood. I'm gonna fap and watch something. Peace dudes.

I was just experimenting with jamming it into a useless pouch I had lying around. It's hair banded to it at present with the precious security strap attached to one side only.

>Why not? Let's not pretend /gq/ is a role model for productive threads and thoughtful discussion.
having been here for a while things definitely weren't always this shitty
anyways there aren't a lot of other places you can get discussion about setting up combat gear to include armor and sustainment stuff, just because most forums are either populated by fat neckbeards who seriously believe in "zombies as a metaphor for looters" or by retarded cops or ex-soldiers who constantly harp on how unlikely civilians are to need armor instead of providing useful info.
>>33210534
>>33210491
>Something is imperfect
>Better deliberately fuck it up more
That is the reasoning of an idiot. You can be better than that.
I tend to throw CATs into either pistol mag pouches or single rifle pouches. I like to rag on people who leave the Velcro exposed as dirty Velcro quits working. My background is mostly training/caring for grunts determined to get themselves killed, so I tend to harp on the basics.
>>33210549
I feel you. Even when /gq/ is on point though there is an awful lot of "you have to have x set up like y because z" as if there's one way to skin a cat. Nearly as toxic as the neckbeards and youdon'tneedthats. To much assumption that gear needs to be set up for a combat deployment. To each their own, but /gq/ bullying is just as bad as /arg/ bullying and every bit as delusional. Difference is at least /arg/ breaks it up with pointless memes and shitposts to lighten the mood.
>>33210593
we didn't have so much of that before the retarded "how many mags" flamewars recently. last year things were relatively sensible and there were a lot of good armor convos (except for retards with the "ceramics aren't multihit" bullshit).
>>33210554
Definitely appreciated. I think the sin I'm committing presently is FAR worse than the security strap, and that's the fact it's in a position that I can only reach it with my right hand/arm. Nothing's ever final and tbqh my ifak and TQ are there for that .001% chance there's some really retarded shit that happens at a competition or during a course, or in the far less likely chance someone fucks up while we're on private land. Not an excuse to not execute good practice, but the likelihood of me encountering a GSW, much less taking one myself is next to nil compared to someone actively going into harm's way.
>>33210632
Agreed. /gq/ used to be relatively laid back which is why I tend to get angry while drinking and browsing it like tonight. No excuse, I should probably kick my own ass for taking /k/ somewhat seriously in the first place.
>>33210593

>>33210926
Build, it could cost 50-60% of a prebuilt IFAK for the exact same contents.
You can get supplies from North American Rescue, Rescue Essentials, 1110 Gear, and some other places. Look at the contents of premade kits like the DARK IFAK to get a sense of what you might want to put inside.
>>33210881
Build, I just bought the exact contents of the Blue Force Gear Micro TKN for $60 (Sixty) less than what BFG sells it for. Pre-built kits are extremely overpriced and they're simple to build yourself.
Depending on your skill all you need is:
>Pressure bandage
>TQ
>Gauze (preferably quik clot)
>Chest seal
>14g decomp needle
>28g nasopharyngeal w/ lube
>sharpie
>duct tape
Don't use the decomp needle or naso without training but I like to have them in case someone qualified is around to use them on me if needed.

Is that electrical tape on the locking ring if your climbing d-ring? Honestly that is the most perplexing thing.
>>33220342
meh, hate it all you want. The paint has worn off on the lock and is shiny silver from constant use. I prefer red tape over the lock as it allows me to just glance and immediately grab where I need to grab. It doesn't prevent it to be locked or anything. It doesn't even cover 100% of the locking mechanism anyway, so no way it could interfere.
It doesn't make a big difference, and to most people it probably doesn't make any difference, but for me, in low light/high stress situations I have found it useful.
>Actually using gear
>>33220393
Just curious. I always leave them unlocked unless I'm specifically doing something- I'm not climbing or fast roping on the fly with those rings though.
>>33220411
Unfortunately I have done both on the fly. I usually leave it locked just so I know what position its in at all times and it builds a solid base. Sometimes if I leave it unlocked it will lock itself one or two turns around, and then I expect it to be unlocked, and it isnt.
Either way im consider moving to the new magnetized ones. Idk we will see.

I have some spring loaded ones. They are locked by default and you twist & pull to open them. They are climbing strength rated as well.
Like I said though, I don't do this one the fly. I recreationally climb- where I can leisurely lock rings, and use them as leverage for pulling ropes in military applications.
