I used a belt once with those pinchers on it though like that has, to prevent the belt from losing its place after you tighten it. Pretty good actually, much better than I had expected. But yeah im surprised for the price that crye doesn't shill into cobra buckles.

yes, the 117 one, it has the really nice 117 style molle attachment, wings that allow PTT button connections, the bottom has a buckle adjustment to allow everything from bowchangs to PRC152s. has gutted paracord top closure, similar to how tactical taylor makes theirs i think? very nice pouch.

I don't have too much experience with shoes except for some Merrell MOAB for hiking and Under Armor Valsetz for work.

MOABs are great. Still together after 2 years with only the little Merrell medallion on the tongue falling off.

The Valsetz laces suck and will break but those are easily replaced. They fit and breathe well (I've used them up to 140F, nothing is comfortable at that temp but they were better than the SWAT boots we're given). The sole is starting to come off the left boot on the inner side a little after 3 years of use, Overall I'd recommend them, but take my advice with a grain of salt and weigh it against others.

True, didn't want to spend the 250+ on the Comtacs since I hardly use my radio anyway, for now my Baofeng with a shoulder speaker that has an 3.5mm jack to go to my Peltors (has 3.5mm in jack on it) will work alright.

I got it for 50 dollars and is a lot better than expected, the shroud holds the rhino with no wobble (have to push down onto the rhino a bit to get it to lock in just like my ACH bracket mount) Obviously going to secure it down with piece of paracord like my ACH just to make sure if it falls off it doesn't hit the ground, could always put a real shroud on it too. I got this because I couldn't find any Protecs at a decent price and don't want to spend the money on a real Opscore until later and this was really the only go between as my ACH just had too much tilt and droop in the system.

They were great, no complaints exceot for the fact they were old and beat up. The whole fuddlore "AKs can survive being run over by a tank" was a pervasive concept at my last unit. Those AKs looked like they fought in WW3 and WW4.

As for taking the eyecup off on NODs, not that anon but its annoying as fuck especially when wearing NODs for hours on end, and you lose all periphery in that eye.

I'm looking into upgrading from my howard leight electronic earpro to something higher end and that I can mount to my ops core helmet, I have looked at the Sordin Supreme X and a number of the 3m Comtac 3 models and am having a hard time deciding, also it seems kind of confusing what the difference between the various Comtac 3 models is, I'm most interested in the non mic Commtac 3 as shown in the image and am wondering if they are really better than the Sordin Supreme X if I am going for a non mic model and if the non mic Comtac 3 still has a line in for my radio even if it doesn't have a line out. Also wanting to know what helmet adapters you guys like, I was looking at this Unity MARK model which seems pretty good and can be ordered with adapter clips for the Sordins.
https://tnvc.com/shop/unity-tactical-mark-modular-attached-rail-kit/

Im also up for non Sordin/Peltor suggestions.

>>
>>33223353
Maybe if I tell this to my wife, she'll start mowing.
>>
>>33223569
Heres what i recomend then and this is just my approach

>day pack
AWS assault pack - very similar to the the eagle beaver tail but a little better. IMO becasuse you can removed the beaver tail portion and have pals webbing for any pouches you may want.
These things are in the 130 USD range

AWS Recon Pack - very similar design to the LBT 3day assault. Which has been one of the best all around packs for a long time due to its simplicity. AWS makes good kit that wont break the bamk and its a simple design that may not be gucci or cool these days but its a damn good bag. These are 85 USD.

The reason i recomend these is to save some money to apply to the ruck.

Mystery ranch is nice but its spendy. Now for the belt is that 250 for belt and pouches or just belt? if its just the belt look into ATS tactical. Their war belt is damn good quality and about 45 USD. That will allow you to save some cash to put towards a nice ruck but still get good quality gear.

I can always fold the cup up I guess, just got this helmet so haven't gone walking around the woods with it yet, do you prefer NVG over dominate or non dominate eye?

>>33223935
I have some used Peltor ones for mine that i got off ebay, they are solid, they will also fit any peltor that uses the standard wire "keyway" so you can switch out the plastic links that attach to the muff, I think the Comtacs are larger than the standard infomercial Peltors so i switched mine out.

Cut off band for Peltor of your choosing (or if you have some of the older models that are separate just take it off ) watch for the cord that connects both muffs. Once that's done you need to check what is include with your arc rail to Peltor adapter, mine had the clamps that connect the muff to the wire already installed but the commercial Peltors seem to use a different size than the Comtac (Comtac too large) so if they have them remove them be pulling them all the way out and turning left or right 90 degrees while lightly pulling and they will pull off (near the end or the wire is a smashed piece of the steel that turns into flat piece that's wider than the rod section than goes back to standard wire rod, this is the "keyway" i was talking about so the adapters will only come off if they are in a turned position that's physically impossible to turn to if the adapters are connected to the muffs since when attached they cant move 90 degrees). Than take what ever adapters you have on your muffs and turn them 90 degrees so if they are on your ear they are pointing towards your eyes/back of your head than push them off and they will pop off (you can see how they come on and off by looking at them) than once all 4 are off attach them to the wire using the reverse of what I told you before by turning 90 degrees than pushing up and they should go on, than once all 4 are on by attaching the adapters to the muffs by using reverse method as above from takeing them off, the wires have a bit of play so you can go 1 by 1 when attaching adapter to muff. And that should be it, I used this with Peltor Range guards as they were cheap, I already had Peltor Sport 100 but didn't want to cut the band off those to sacrifice it for helmet. This same method can be used with the Howard lights but the wire adapters for the Howards dont use the keyway so they will just slide off the wire if you pull too hard down so I wouldn't recommend using those.
Posting old helmet now.

Damn my lucky post ran out of room, just reply if you have any questions, the whole thing took me maybe 20 minutes long but could be done faster if i didn't want to try and somewhat save the band that came with the Range-guards. Also try and test the Peltors you get and make sure they work before cutting off the band but any Peltor model should work.

Not our OPFOR friend, but I used mics a lot on deployment and hated the headsets as well. I went with an offset "porkchop" handmic mounted on the weak side chest of my plate carrier.

It always worked, and it was a good solution for when other people had to jump in and use my radio (because their coolguy antenna setups broke).

Pic related is not me (I think it's airshit), but it's pretty close to what I did for a mic.

And I was in Romania when I went to another country for training. Our unit owned the AKs, but Im not sure.

>>33224286
Handmic on a baofeng, single ptt and volume high enough that I can hear it. I have used Sordins before and the thing was I didnt like that the ambient sounds would cut out when recieving transmissions. Multitasking isnt easy with a closed system like that.

However, Lm sure someone might chime in that a closed system is inherently more integrated and quieter since its funneled directly to your ears and not just openly producing sound.

I tried a frogman (?) Headset that had one earcup and that was uncomfortable after a while and the boom mic was spotty at best.

Not to mention headsets in hot weather turn nasty and short of taking halts to dump the sweat out and let them air out, there is no easy way barring the rail mounts to mitigate these issues on the fly.

Plus I dont really do super secret stealthy shit so just keeping a moderate volume on a handmic and ratcheting it up when firing has worked fine.

Are you just looking for reasons to convince yourself or an actual comparison?

I don't have the Tyr but everyone got the Gunfighter and from what I heard here are the few differences: (Between the Ronin Senshi / Taskforce which is what I have)

Senshi/TF is VERY stiff. The belt basically stands on its own if held horizontally, comes with D ring and new Cobra buckle (Gunfighter looks like it comes with the older one), and otherwise looks like it has PALS webbing a little further out length by length than the Tyr (not that that's gonna make much of a difference).

The more comparable to the Tyr Gunfighter is the Ronin Shooters belt. Tyr sells the equivalent for $10 cheaper so I'd still go Tyr. But if you want all the neat High drag lo speed doodads then the Ronin is basically the only belt I've found with them all, especially the standalone stiffness of the belt.
>>
>>33227422
Pretty much this, id go with whatever one you can get cheaper/quicker.
>>
>>33227359
No, its too cumbersome for use moving, you will have a loose cable dangling, and less coverage than an ACH. Plus many are old and I dont trust them to be ballistically more capable than any regular combat helmet.
>>
>>33227427
Meh. Go with what you need. Unless you're .mil and want shit before next deployment (even then you can usually get stuff shipped overseas to a base) then get what you want or have a need for more. If you want or need a D ring and no other belts (obviously lots of other belts) have it then get the one with the D ring.

Just worth considering. I'm very happy with mine, most other anon's / blu give the Tyr a good review as well.

Is there a chest rig that can act like a plate carrier in terms of molle space and size?

Ex. Back molle, side cumberbund, chest molle, as well as only coming down to my midriff?

Every one I've seen has that standard chicom build that they all share.
>>
>>33227493
They make admin panels that fit on most any standalone chest rig. Also, full MOLLE panels and hydration panels exist which either come with a chest rig, or which can substitute the standard straps on the back.

The real question is what they fuck are you loading onto yourself with that much MOLLE?
>>

UCR+hydration stap.

It's got a hidden map pocket for admin shit, along with 4 pistol mag sized slots. It has an extra admin panel option if you reeealllly want it.

Personally, a dedicated admin panel is overkill unless you're significantly loaded down and it sounds like you aren't.

Or just buy a FLC or a ChiCom and a seperate hydration pack which fills the same purpose.

There are two versions of the CVC the alpha version is Fiber glass i think and if not its a very thin layer of kevlar that wont stop shit. but the bravo version it the same thickness and balistic rating as an ACH. If you find a bravo for cheap jump on it.

If you just want a bump helmet by the time you would be done with the after getting a shroud, suspension system, and getting the hard war and doing the conversion you will be kinda close to an ops core bump or decently set up pro tech. If you want a bump there are better options in regard to time and money spent on converting a CVC into some SOHA helmet

I'm tl;dr-ing this whole thing. (listing these just in case)
IFAK= Individual First Aid Kit
PC= Plate Carrier
BB= Battle Belt

Don't like IFAK on PC, don't like IFAK on BB, like idea of IFAK fanny pack. Like idea of up-armored BB (done one before, nice lower back support).

IFAK fanny pack + uparmor BB = shit idea or novel OC gear?
>>
>>33229487
Seems like you have too much and it will be covered by everything. I got mine on my plate carrier because if I got to ditch my plates shit is really going down and a booboo kit wont help much
>>
>>33229516
Can you elaborate on "Seems like you have too much and it will be covered by everything."

Also, why would you ditch your plates if it's really going down? Like if the plates are shot to hell? Or you're trying to GTFO ASAMFGDP?
>>
>>33229487
If you can design it like that then good idea, but if you buy one premarital it'll look all janky and shit. Plus where will you connect The fanny?
>>
>>33229487
>listing these just in case
Most people here know those but belt's short enough.

Checked out Ferro Dangler? Hangs from PC, you need some sort of hook and loop on the bottom be that a plate pocket, cummerbund attachment panel, whatever.
https://ferroconcepts.com/products/the-dangler

http://www.tyrtactical.com/products/details/travelers-general-purpose-bags/tactical-medical-waist-pack/
This is pretty big but kind of what you're looking for?

Maybe something like this

http://www.bdstacticalgear.com/pd-bds-tactical-medical-fanny-pack.cfm

>uparmor BB
Soft armor war belts are cool but are fucking huge and heavy so if it's your thing and you don't have a problem with them then by all means...

That's just a LOT of stuff to be wearing at your waist line. Running and bending especially will be harder.

90's MARSOC dudes ran a fannypack IFAK so it's not a terrible idea just have it sinched down so it's not flopping everywhere. Because it's another strap that won't go on your riggers belt (Pants holding belt) that'd be three straps to worry about. Fanny pack, pants belt, and battle belt. Just a LOT of stuff at your waist line. Like pretty much as much as possible without a pack kidney pads as well.

I don't think it's a good idea. Run a slimmer IFAK or one on carrier imo.
>>
>>33229546
>covered by everything
You plan on running all 3? I am not picturing where you would fit the fanny pack, battle belt and plate carrier and have good access to all 3 while still being mobile
>Like if the plates are shot to hell? Or you're trying to GTFO ASAMFGDP?
yes. Gear ditching is a last ditch move and if you have to do it you are doing something severely wrong
>>
>>33229570
If you're running ceramic (which you should be) then after getting shot 5-10 times the plates won't be doing so well and neither will your carrier, or you fall in water / a hole and need to get yourself up. I don't know about you but I can't do a pullup with 40lb of shit on me. That's certainly a goal, but it's a consideration that has to be made for all us non hard mother fucking oper8r dudes that can do that.

So there are times you'll find yourself in need of dropping your carrier. This requires two things to work

One, first line gear. Your belt. Something you'd never really take off. On there you shouldn't have too much, not too much weight, not too much bulk. Usually the consensus the thread is an ifak, pistol holster and at max 2 rifle mags 2 pistol mags. More than that is fine if you have more real estate or are bigger but that's the "average".
>>
>>33229634
Yeah I know all that. So Where would you connect your fanny pack? Like the other guy said it's gonna cause you to have straps everywhere
>>
>>33229659
If I were to run a fanny pack I would preferably run the strap at my belt line. If it's possible to get your pouches on your belt (assuming no war or molle belt, just normal riggers belt) around the fanny pack strap as well that's be great.

If not then as low and close as possible to the other belt. It won't have a buckle of sorts so you won't get the issue caused by two cobra or metal buckles catching like you do with a traditional battle belt.

Ronin promotional video covers this well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjxcbHpPoJk

So, as close to your pants belt as possible. If you're running a battle belt this might be an issue however because now you're stacking belts. So your fanny pack can't go past your riggers, and your battle belt will sit on top of that unable to go any lower so now you have more of a kidney pad than a "belt".
>>
>>33229570
>Plus where will you connect The fanny?
Good question, I have a couple of ideas. One is to attached the fanny to the PC and hang over the belt buckle area, this is obviously the least amount of work but the most crowded.

The other is to resew the belt and fanny into one unit so the the strap from the fanny is now the inner belt of the BB, buckle placement would have to be off to one side or the other.

>>33229585
The BDS is pretty close to what I've envisioned for the IFAK portion. I gotcha about the multiple straps, that is a lot.

>>33229631
>you are doing something severely wrong
Agreed.

Ideally to doff this fanny pack belt combo it'll be one buckle and that's it. My sketch is probably insufficient to relay my idea to ya'll. Really I'm just looking for 1) a better IFAK option and 2) it ain't nothing but something to do with all the damn kevlar and Cordura I've got at the house. I could do it for the entertainment value alone, worst case is I go back to an IFAK on the PC rubbing my inner arm raw.
>>
>>33228282
yeah I will say it takes time to learn and takes time to get a design worked out and sewn properly.
>>
>>33229724
I'd go the way of the rest of the thread and pick up a "slim molle belt" (for lack of a better term) like the Tyr Gunfighter or any of the Ronin belts.

mount your stuff to that, and then running a fanny pack won't be as much of an issue / actually possible. You'll have to skip out on the armored part though. Up to you. What you COULD try to do is loop the straps of the fanny pack through the battle belt as well. It would make getting to your battle belts buckle a bitch but you've now resolved the problem of three straps and brought it down to two.

I'm still not a fan of having to run two separate belts, ie pants belt and lbe belt but still that's an option.

/gq/ I know aesthetics aren't everything but do you ever feel like you have too much of one color gear? So far my PC, all pouches, and pack are all coyote, I feel like I need to throw in some OD or M81 just to keep it from washing out, make sense?
>>
>>33229894
I would, I have but it's sooo annoying to me. Normally if I'm just using the PC, it's 3 mag shingle up front, and radio or double pistol mag pouch at about 10 or 11 o'clock. I like to keep my 2 to 3 o'clock open because I like to hang my rifle there and I tend to "dangle" my right arm in that position when not holding my weapon. Hence the whole IFAK fanny pack idea.

>>
>>33232133
I've dyed UCP with some kind of dark green by Rite. It came out okish.

Don't expect to get "green multicam" since dyes will overpower the existing colors and mute their distinctions. Your pic related is about what I'd expect from subjecting a uniform to green dye. Though the velcro gets weaker and sometimes a little fuckity. In your pic related, to my eye, they added the velcro on after the fact.

The multicam is extremely faded, especially on the shoulders and upper chest/back.

Good to know, I won't be putting any name tapes on it but maybe a shitposting patch on the sleeves.

As for the plate carrier adjustment there should be a plastic friction buckle and with that you can lift that up so it's parallel with straps and then pull said straps to desired length which adjusts the length of the shoulder straps.

Looks like they are actually $11 right now, free shipping if you have prime. The brand (Onetigris) is known for making dog vests/dog gear, but they've gotten into other things in the last couple years and the stuff I have has been really good quality for the money.

https://www.amazon.com/OneTigris-Open-Top-Single-Adjustable-Magazine/dp/B01JOTYZCG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488939784&sr=8-1&keywords=onetigris%2Btaco&th=1

Depends on how you feel about taking a risk on a lesser known brand. Pic related, it's the double decker taco I got from them. Not perfect but pretty darn good considering the price tag.

IMO don't put the stuff in a plastic bag, the bandages all are in water proof seals anyway assuming you didn't already open them. It's just going to make it harder for you to get what you need quickly. If you have your bandages long enough where the plastic starts to become worn from just sitting in your ifak, you need to replace them. Take them out and use them tor training and then buy new ones

The thing is there's literally no organization in the LBT 9022b. so once you pull the tab everything inside literally just falls out the bottom. So if the bandages, gauze, etc aren't in some kind of bag you have to pick all that shit up.
>>
>>33237948

You looking for a soft armor carrier for the BALCS/CIRAS style 3a soft armor or a plate carrier?

The "meta" is mobility. Especially for civvie use, there's literally no need for turtle vests or butt/crotch pads or any of that. It's all about load bearing options. So if you don't want to fuck with armor then don't buy a plate carrier, but a chest rig.
