You're all just larping. Plate carriers are a meme. It doesn't matter if you have plates if you can't even move 20 feet before collapsing. Your 5000 hours on Arma 3 doesn't make you an Operator.

No. There are significant differences between all the SOF units that you'll only truly appreciate if you're inside of the community. If I hear the "Rangers do the most DA by way of their increased size as an organization" one more time someone better be there to hold me back. This is a stale fucking meme that needs to die, I don't know if it's ever been true but it certainly hasn't been anytime within the last two decades. Even if you subtract the number of DEVGRU operators from the SEAL pool, the number of SEALs actively in the standard teams (SEALs, not NSW) outnumber Rangers (including HHC and support staff) by almost 2:1.

A lot of the differences in SOF capabilities really comes down to culture and funding, and many of the reasons for things are much more nuanced. With differences some times existing due to extremely sensitive and complicated factors, and sometimes due to pure pettiness.

I have a SpecOps Brand Recon Ruck that uses my old alice frame. Not the most comfy but it was available in multimeme and was on sale for only $65 so I can't argue. One downside besides the heavy frame is that it is only the size of a medium alice pack so it's kinda small.

Do it. I've been using my Salomon Forces Quest 4D Pros for like six or seven months as daily drivers and the only issue I have with them is that the heel sole is slightly ripped from the body on on foot, and even then that's only because I got it pinched between a package car's drop gate and a loading dock while I was mid stride. I'm actually surprised it didn't rip more.

Tbqh, I feel like leg presses are a waste. I can easily max out the machine and do them to the point where I can fit more plates on the kind that use plates. I'm not even a mondo guy, I just think the lack of having to balance them or anything makes them easy for anybody with leg strength. Presses are what people who can't do squats well yet do.

If you are able to sqaut, time is better spent squating. Leg press is only good as an improvised heel raise machine IMO.

>Teamster
Fuck that, I'm in management. Teamsters are weird because they're either super pro-gun conservatives/alt-right and they understand sometimes things need to go around the Union to get done efficiently, or they're like ridiculously loud liberal cucks who will argue politics on the job and grievance you for two minutes for picking up a package.

I think there might be an /o/tard in my building and maybe a couple of /k/ommandos, but I don't feel like asking them whether or not they go on Cambodian Claymation Content Creation Compilations Camps.

Fell free to R8 and H8 on my poorfag setup /gq/. I need all the advice I can get.

>inb4 get real brands

I've ditched the belt altogether and put the IFAK on my pack for use when I hike with it. I'm in the process of looking for a fanny pack to do an over the crotch IFAK with it. The SR9, which I love, is getting supplemented with something else more sturdy, a G17 is in the lead ATM.

PC is a Flyye FAPC with level IIIA panels in the cummerbund, I think they're 6" x 12", but I don't recall. Front and back are Level IV Highcoms. Pack is a Flyye ILBE assault pack with a 3L bladder in it, various topo and trail maps, the usual odds-n-ends. Radio is a UV-82HP with a NA-771 antenna and the extended battery pack. I've got the big mic for it that has an audio out to connect to my HL earpro. Normally I just use the small earbud it came with whenever I'm hiking. I like to keep an ear on the freqs the park rangers use.

>>
>>33161055

Good on ya, but I was actually trying to highlight a lot of the issues with the home gym crowd.

You can get an excellent workout out of the world itself ie Charlie Bronson, but at the same time when using equipment, we tend to put ourselves in boxes. If you're using home equipment or home workouts to supplement a gym workout or other workout, Gucci, but a lot of folks have a home "gym" that is maybe four pieces of equipment scattered around a spare bedroom, shrinking your cage. When you're in a gym with a lot of equipment, you're more likely to say "Oh, look at that thing. I don't use that enough, let me work that in as my 7th circuit, it'll take five minutes and it'll be great"

Eh, everybody has their own thing.

T. 5'8 175 pound guy who became obsessed with getting bigger and succeeded but also lost 30 seconds on his run, making him only the fourth fastest in the platoon which lead to crippling self-questioning.

It's not "steel shards" you mook, it's lead and copper jacket and it's not going to flay you alive, at worst it will shred your PC and cause it to fall off your rotund self and maybe leave some jacket splinters embedded in your skin. Which is still superior to getting shot. Until you get shot again with your PC already compromised...

No they won't, nowhere near enough mass and and the angle is all wrong unless you're in some sort of reclining position. Furthermore I didn't say anything about ceramic plates, I'm just calling bullshit on the spalling meme. Yes, spalling happens, no, it won't kill you. Full stop.

If you want to talk about ceramics, I had a buddy who took 7 rounds of 7.62x54r assaulting a compound in Ramadi. Miraculously all hit his front plate and all were stopped, he was still pretty bruised and battered but he lived.

Why not just get a Vortex sparc AR? They amount to the about same cost and Vortex is objectively better.
>>
>>33161572
>no they won't

When you are talking about bullet trajectory, a fuck ton of different angles, and a shit ton of other factors that go into this kind of shit, there is no such thing as "that won't happen". Steel plates cause bullets to turn into baby grenades on your chest, that's a "pretty much anything can happen" situation, no matter which way you try to look at it.

>>
>>33162019

It might pepper your chin, it's not going to shred your throat. About the only way you'll see serious injury is if the bullet ricochets off the top edge of the plate and is still mostly intact when it hits you in which case it's not merely spalling anyway but a still mostly intact bullet with a fair proportion of its mass and kinetic energy intact. When a bullet hits a plate and shatters into spalling first a large portion of its energy is expended into the plate and the rest is divided equally into the uncounted tiny fragments most of which are much tinier and slower moving than a birdshot pellet. Even if you are injured by spalling it's still better than a perforated abdomen and one or more of the vital organs contained therein.

Personally I wrapped my steel plates in a double layer of kevlar from an old PASGT vest. Not that I futz with plates much, mostly I just wear my 3A kevlar OTV when I feel the need to wear armor. which isn't often.

For a "3 day pack" it's kinda small. It's basically a little larger than backpack size. Friend has one and if anything it's a day++ pack. It will easily pack stuff you need for 3 days for sure, but not any sleeping stuff or tents.

If you can get it sub $130-$120 it's worth.

You don't understand how explosives work do you?

Again, I am not arguing against ceramic plates, ceramic plates are great. I'm just stating that the issue of spalling is hilariously overblown. As you demonstrate by comparing it to a grenade.
>>
>>33163720
Im comparing it to a grenade in the sense of expanding, fragmenting shrapnel. If you really want to argue semantics, go back to the site that starts with redd and ends in it. The fact that it's all you can say in response shows how you know you are wrong.
>>
Ay GQ, if I can run 5km w/o stopping, what would that typically translate into distance for a relatively full kit w/ plates and everything?

I'd expect about a 50% reduction, but I've never tried a distance run w/ gear because I don't have most of my stuff yet.
>>
>>33163813
It's not directly proportional like that, really depends on how much you're carrying and how well your body is adjusted to holding extra weight. Have you ever backpacked?
Also no one runs a 5k in full kit.
>>
>>33163642
>shellback

how do you like it? can't tell if the shoulder straps would be comfy and can't find reviews
>>
>>33163813
Try it but I wouldn't pack run. It kills your knees.

You can time your 5k and time your loaded 5k. You'll be slower but I doubt that much slower. Pack running is just about more endurance assuming you have the leg strength to keep a good push going and can keep speed. Lactic acid will build a lot faster, and so will strain on your joints. The trick to being good at running with a load on is just be good at running in the first place.

>>33163829
This basically.

The usual bar is ~1/5-1/4 of your body weight in pack is the comfortable move around and not notice a whole lot weight, but that really depends on your body type and body weight. If you're some 200lb bigg guy then 1/4 of your weight is 50lb and you'll notice that for sure.
>>
>>33163764

Nobody has ever been killed by spalling and getting peppered by spalling is better than being shot. If you can't prove otherwise you can bugger off.
>>
>>33163829

50lb is 50lb no matter who you are. If your pack is holding the same stuff as the next guy over and that's 30lb then it might be easier for you to carry longer than the 5'7" 140lb dude. So you won't be as high in % of body weight carried but you could carry more weight than other dude.

So assuming that's muscle and not "extra padding" then that's pretty impressive.

Me personally Id say its going to limit your mobility, as a LEO though it might be worth it. You aren't going to be engaging in week long patrols, or truly offensive operations.. If you are on a SWAT team or some sort of "raid" force, then it could be worth it.

I mean I wouldn't wear it everyday, Id only get it if you actually engage in tactical operations.. In which case id contact your seniors (Or more experienced people in the unit) that could offer you experiences they have had with this type of stuff.

As im not a LEO, I cant direct you 110%. Just my 2 cents I think its probably too much for daily activity. But just like a riot, police officers have gear for that specific problem. In which case if you had this in your trunk for an active shooter or something, that would be more effective.

>>33164007
I didn't think that most departments let police officers stray away from provided uniforms too much. Up to you if they do then.

Depends what and where you are in LEO. If you're a traffic cop in the hood and think that someone's gonna run up to your car and start putting shots through your window then maybe it's worth it. Not speaking to the LEO side of it but just the armor and use side of it that they're not useless perse, not terribly expensive but they'll be awkward to wear in every day use and you might not want to go around looking like riot police. Unless that's your job, or SWAT or something then up to you. Not gonna tell you how to look or do your job since that's up to your department.

If you aren't wearing it for more than like an hour while responding to a barricaded shooter or busted down a door, I guess- as long as the DAPS don't interfere with your shooting.

Any longer than that or walking any distance and they are real suck ass.

Thanks for the input guys. We do traffic stops all day every day. Just afraid someone is going to pull a pistol on me more then anything.

Again, I really appreciate the input. Armorus maxiumus it is.
>>
>>33164114
Don't take it from some random's (or anyone on /k/), though. I'd ask around your dpt.

As for the armor itself also ask your dpt if there's a police contract company for buying armor if not then there should be some around for sub $200 a piece if not cheaper. Expect normal kevlar 3a for size prices.
>>
>>33164114
Do full torso armor with plates. Then get something similar the POG (yes really) system to protect or legs arteries. Maybe battle belt with Kevlar inserts. I'd skip the arm and outer leg armor because you'll start to hate it fast.
>>
>>33163179

I have one I use for work. Its a decent pack and for the money its awesomely built and the designs been around forever and works great. But like people have said its fairly small and the gay ass belt only works if you're a fat ass. Also this is probably my dumbass self doing something wrong but the flap over top of the zippers make it a pain in the dick to zip up some times. Also LBT is amazing as a company for customer support. Theyll do everything short of sucking your dick and cooking you dinner if you have a problem.

We wear big duty belts, can't get around that. Need room for 2 mags, OC (Mace), a baton, hand cuffs, and a radio. Pretty my agency doesn't mind 'Adding' armor but they don't want us messing with the gear that is standard on everyone. I'll be writing memos until the end of time explaining myself if I do that. Hehe.

The straps themselves are made out of a thin material, like bicycle innertube but not stretchy. They're wide-set which is nice - never had issues with it chafing the neck. Carrier is very comfy overall - I blame the interior airflow mesh, shoulder straps, and cummerbund. This last piece is great - can hold 4 mags in the cummerbund alone (2 on each side). They included the 2 mag shingle (for free I guess?) so with 6 mags, you don't need much else; great if you wanna run shit like radio/IFAK on the belt.

Last little bits: It's swiftclip compatible (hence why I'm chatting up Trllz bout his D3CR), has a nice lil admin pouch, but overall very simple and robust. check it out bit DOT ly/2mMLco9 looks like they offer 4 colors including vanilla multicam (mine is ranger green)

If you're really worried then, see if you can get a black version of the IOTV "buttflap" and groin flap to hang from your armor.

You can still wear Kevlar underwear.

I would still advise against Maximo arm and leg armor. Situational awareness provided through comfort is a legit factor.

That is a really solid point, thanks for bringing that up. More worried about shots on the upper body from approaching cars then my legs however. Groin and butt Kevlar wouldn't do me much good. Thanks for the suggestion about the IOTV though, definitely made a note.

Late to the discussion but have you looked at Velocity Systems? Their law enforcement plate carrier is pretty cool. Can be configured to use on-carrier pouches/accessories or left naked to plug a chest rig into. Also has a thick line of velcro on front and back for some cool guy LE identifying patches.

retail ~$220
found on ebay new for $130

>pros
>LBT so its made very well
>comfy hip belt that is removable
>very nice strap retainers
>roomy for its external size
>smells like LBT goodness
>pouch for bladder
>straps are well padded
>fits well on top of PC

cons
>absolutely no extra internal organization, just 3 compartments (no pen holders, zipper pockets internally)

so far thats my only complaint, just received it today. its a 3 day pack so there isnt much to be expected of it but an expensive jansport tbqh

Sometimes I prefer it to be pre looped around one, so I can apply it to my arm one handed.

The ones in the picture are used for training (Hence the immense amount of damage to the left one), and they are used for demonstration.

>>33165693
Im not operating inna environment where I reallllly need camo. If shtf or something and I had to operate outside with my gear, id likely be conducting a checkpoint or neighborhood patrol, in which case camo doesn't really make much of a difference, aslong as you arent wearing high vis colors, your movement will likely give you away at first glance.

Also if I go to a range I can wear my shit and not look like a MSW airshitter at the local outdoor range, or innawoods nearby, on the off chance someone was there id look like a total sperg (>Inb4 caring what anyone thinks)

>>33165693
What you have in that pic is basically more what im doing now. Im also trying to stay away from super tacticool stuff nowadays, so i can wear this shit in public aswell.

Im more concerned about the material and technology of the fabrics and products, than what camo it is now, that way I can spend 300$ on a jacket I can wear in more places besides innawoods larping with multimeme everywhere.
