I'm not sure when exactly they switched. Ive tried to dig around but nobody really has an exact time. Like Chimps says though black and plum mold numbers overlap and that keeps exact numbers and dates a little iffy. The earliest I have is 45 and the earliest I've seen are those 26 (I believe that was the number) mags that one anon had a few threads back and that Chimps said he had as well. How'd you get that 21? I don't think I'm gonna be buying any batches of true blacks from Russia because I'm not getting anything new. Nicer condition mags is nice but it isn't really why I'm buying them, I just want mold numbers I don't have and/or better examples of ones I don't have

And I've apparently been lying about my earliest being a 45 because that isn't true, I just checked and my one with trench art is a 37 but I never added to my mold number list on my phone that still had 45 being my earliest

I got that 21 when I bought around 100 plums or so from Ukraine. Several true blacks got mixed in. Also, in that order, I found two plums with the true black "4" shaped ink stamps, which I accidentally sold.

40's and 50's are by far the most common numbers I see.

It's just a nice little area that I both find interesting and collectible in an affordable and fun way for me. It isn't anywhere near any rare mags or expensive mags, just mags that I like so it is just fun trying to pick up different variations on the same, and in doing so building a neat little reference collection of true blacks for myself. I'm well aware that they're nothing special and to serious AK collectors who will drop hundreds on rare experimental mags it's literally nothing but I just think they're cool and it's just fun. They're all really good. The one on the right titled Afghanistan is one soldier's personal journal or memoir of the war and the one on the left titled the Hidden War is an account from a journalist who spent some time in Afghanistan during the war reporting the conflict. I'm partial to first hand accounts of people who were there like those two, but honestly go for Zinky Boys. It's a hugely acclaimed book and for good reason. It's good but it's different than the other two. I first read it in school when I was a teenager and that is what initially sparked my interest in the Soviet Afghan War

We've got some boxes moved over there as the seller doesn't live there anymore obviously and was cool with it, but the big day isn't officially til the first. I've got Tex Mexs in the Strat (first guitar that was 100% mine, I saved and saved and bought it at 14 after learning on my dads various Ibanezs three years prior) and for the JM I've got some Seymour Duncan Antiquity IIs for it. I've had a Vepr12 for almost a year now, got it from KVAR when they had the fixed stock ones for $699, which is a smoking deal in my opinion. Anyway, out of all my AKs it's the least used because it's a fucking shotgun. Yeah it's cool but slugs and buckshot are expensive, and that usually means that I'm just shooting at wooden pallets and stupid shit in the desert with it, which isn't a lot of fun compared to shooting rifles at legit steel targets. Maybe it will be cool if I get into 3gun with it, and if you need a shotgun it's definitely one I'd recommend, but if you're just looking for an AK, get a rifle. The fixed stock SLR-107s are the best value right now.
