To start, I have a #022xxx serial number, in case anyone is keeping track of quality over the years.

After 1,000 rounds over 3 days, receiver is clear of cracks or wear. Barrel is clear of pitting. Stock required tightening around 200 rounds in, but has stayed tight since. Stock wood shows no clear signs of wear or stress. Gas block is clear of cracks or wear. Gas block/top wood handguard shows signs of stress and small .5cm crack near stress point in contact with gas block. Piston is clear of damage or sign of wear. Trigger group is clear, hammer shows no noticeable signs of wear. Firing pin shows no noticeable signs of wear. Bolt shows signs of warping on rear bolt stem from contact with recoil spring innards. Recoil spring has had significant inspection and shows no signs on wear inside the latch housing. Bolt stem warping has not (and should not ever) had an impact on the function of the rifle.

Firing 7.62x39 Golden Tiger, the single and only F2F was due to a dud. Every fired round has functioned through the rifle flawlessly, with no failures to eject or cycle a round."

I got it from russtock.com. it says it takes 1.5 months to get, but mine took 3. you don't actually pay up front, they email you about a day later, where you tell them what reticle option you want and in what caliber, then pay the PayPal invoice in the email.
Apparently they have to get it built from the factory, receive it (they emailed me when it arrived), and then send it to you. Customs molested my package but everything was intact and accounted for

I actually really like it here in terms of size and access to gun stuff. Depends. I think the soviets were anal about it because of stock keeping and just keeping track of which part goes with which rifle in general. The tolerances allowed in the machining on AKs, traditionally, was fairly loose. With AR-15s you can take any given bolt and it will probably headspace to any given barrel extension. Not so with AKs, so it's important that the bolt be serialized to the trunnion.

If you're just building from a kit though, it doesn't really matter. You'll set the headspace yourself, and any other fitment issues you'll probably notice along the way, if any.

I took my Saiga conversion to the range with some Yugo mags fresh from the cosmoline filled with Wolf 123gr HP laquered and sealed 7.62x39.
